Hamido completely changed that! The food was absolutely phenomenal. The scallops were perfectly cooked and full of flavor, the wild shrimp was amazing, and everything we tried tasted fresh and top-tier. And let me not even get started on the mussels -- absolutely TO DIE FOR! Every bite was better than the last. The atmosphere was also perfect for a date night. It was lively and welcoming without being overly loud, so we were able to relax, talk, and really enjoy the experience. Fresh seafood! Purchased one pound of fresh shrimp and they even clean them for an additional fee of $2. They also have cooked meal options as well. The service was attentive upon entering. My wife and I only left this place a few hours ago and I'm already planning our next visit. Inside is comfortable and clean and they have seating outside and upstairs. The upstairs seating is made a little nicer because of the floor to ceiling windows. The gentlemen working at the fish bar are A++++, they don't allow you to rush yourself as they want you to get your order and want you to be sure of what you get. The upstairs servers are attentive and polite. Now, on to the star of the show: the food. The food is amazing. From the pita to the red snapper and everything in between, this is truly some of the best seafood I've had in NYC. The red snapper is heavily seasoned in a delicious citrus and herb mix that makes the meat soft, flaky and buttery. The shrimp pasta was garlicky and the shrimp perfectly cooked. Such an amazing spot for fresh seafood. You pick out your own seafood and get assigned a table based on your party size. There's an upstairs and outdoor seating option as well as the first floor. Staff are friendly and attentive. Being half Egyptian I would say this is very authentic Alexandra style cooking. Simple seasoning that lets the fresh seafood speak for itself. I always have an amazing time here. Pita is soft and fluffy, hamido salad and Mezze platter are refreshing and interesting complements to the seafood. They were out of the fried smelts so you know the food is always fresh! The grilled octopus I heard rivals the ones in Greece! The scallops are juicy and big and just perfectly seasoned. The grilled mussels have a tantalizing sauce on them. The bf who doesn't like fish at all said the dorado butterflied and braised was really good. The grilled shrimp was really good as expected. Everything else was so good that it didn't stand out for just being good, it was predictably good lol. Also must get the mint lemonade it's so refreshing and a bit creamy and not too sour. Like a smoothie. Service prompt and place is clean. Bathrooms clean. Decor is a mix of New England beach and Egyptian. This review is for the pickup/delivery Hamido restaurant located across the street from the sit down restaurant. They never get the order correct, always forgetting something. The guys there are nice, but if they did forget something you have to come pick it up yourself because they have no way to deliver it to you. So, while your nicely made hot meal sits, now getting cold at home, you have to go back to the establishment and pick up the rest of your order. Like I said, the guys are nice, but every time I'm in there they are distracted with their phones and obviously don't pay attention to the orders. The Greek salad, with the best dressing ever, can no longer be put on the side unless you go to the restaurant and request it. This matters because the salad will not be good the next day if you don't eat it all at once. The dressing is also very watered down, it almost tastes like the salad has been washed, the water stayed and they sprinkled it with a little dressing. The big kicker for me though, is the take out restaurant doesn't whip the feta cheese like the sit down restaurant does. I know it's so minuscule, but the whipped feta is so much better and makes the salad much more special than just a regular, mediocre, Greek salad you can get at a diner down the street. I miss the quality that Hamido pickup/delivery use to have, the whole meal was delicious together. It was always fresh even when having seafood delivered. To get that kind of quality now, you need to go sit down at the restaurant. I will say though, the pita and the seafood is still absolutely amazing. Thank God that hasn't changed. read more

I've been here twice and it's been a consistently delicious experience! They have two floors so there's plenty of seating for a popular spot. The fish monger is helpful and knowledgeable. As it is a fish market you select your items let them know how you want it prepared. They let you know your table you order your sides as you wait for your food to arrive. I will say they have this process down. I will say if you are extremely hungry not a spot to try as they do not take reservations and line can be long. The looked the same as always, with that golden crust of sublimity. However, as we ate we sensed something was off but still consumed them. It was busy but mostly call ins, and there isn't any place to sit and eat (the sit down across the street had plenty of space, but we just weren't sure if we wanted to try a cook-to-order spot yet. So we had a grilled calamarie/shrimp with eggplant, and it was great, grilling was perfect, seafood was really fresh, and perfectly grilled with butter and seasoning. Eggplant was excellent too. The ambiance was beachy airy vibe with turquoise white and grey wood. I ordered the grilled scallops/shrimp garlic pasta bc I was feeling greedy/hungry as well as an order of garlic eggplant on the side so that I can have a veggie. First of all that garlic eggplant was delish! The bread that came was just perfection to eat with the eggplant and yes, I used my hands! And I squeezed a lemon wedge on it and I wanted to order a second plate haha. I can't lie I also squeezed the lemon onto the pasta and sprinkled some salt and pepper on it and my greedy tummy was happy bc the pasta was plenty.
