Fantastic and unique flavors. Love the concept, lines can get really long but food is fresh and cooked really well

Such an amazing spot for fresh seafood. You pick out your own seafood and get assigned a table based on your party size. There's an upstairs and outdoor seating option as well as the first floor. Staff are friendly and attentive. Being half Egyptian I would say this is very authentic Alexandra style cooking. Simple seasoning that lets the fresh seafood speak for itself. The vibe is very chill and casual. Highly recommend going when they first open or after 3. I want to come back for dinner and try the moulukheya soup which they only have in the evenings.

The line is long, but it moves fast. You order first, then they sit you at a table and they bring out your food. You get to choose what seafood you want how you want it prepared and in what quantity. It's priced by the pound. Love the new store as it has two floors and plenty of seating with soon to have outdoor seating as well They move really quickly with food and orders (there was a table of 17 in front of us (!)) Best food: -love the free bread that you start with, but don't fill up on dips / sides - grilled shrimp, snapper and grilled calamari where our favorites. The grilled shrimp was shockingly out of this world. Was not expecting it. The snapper was perfectly cooked. Good; fried calamari was OK. I've had better. Beets were mid but good side for the seafood Service was fantastic Good option for small and large parties although small parties will be served faster Highly recommend for delicious seafood in Astoria

I always have an amazing time here. Pita is soft and fluffy, hamido salad and Mezze platter are refreshing and interesting complements to the seafood. They were out of the fried smelts so you know the food is always fresh! The grilled octopus I heard rivals the ones in Greece! The scallops are juicy and big and just perfectly seasoned. The grilled mussels have a tantalizing sauce on them. The bf who doesn't like fish at all said the dorado butterflied and braised was really good. The grilled shrimp was really good as expected. Everything else was so good that it didn't stand out for just being good, it was predictably good lol. Also must get the mint lemonade it's so refreshing and a bit creamy and not too sour. Like a smoothie. Service prompt and place is clean. Bathrooms clean. Decor is a mix of New England beach and Egyptian. Price wasn't the cheapest but service is prompt and really good and will definitely be back again!

This review is for the pickup/delivery Hamido restaurant located across the street from the sit down restaurant. They never get the order correct, always forgetting something. The guys there are nice, but if they did forget something you have to come pick it up yourself because they have no way to deliver it to you. So, while your nicely made hot meal sits, now getting cold at home, you have to go back to the establishment and pick up the rest of your order. Like I said, the guys are nice, but every time I'm in there they are distracted with their phones and obviously don't pay attention to the orders. The Greek salad, with the best dressing ever, can no longer be put on the side unless you go to the restaurant and request it. This matters because the salad will not be good the next day if you don't eat it all at once. The dressing is also very watered down, it almost tastes like the salad has been washed, the water stayed and they sprinkled it with a little dressing. The big kicker for me though, is the take out restaurant doesn't whip the feta cheese like the sit down restaurant does. I know it's so minuscule, but the whipped feta is so much better and makes the salad much more special than just a regular, mediocre, Greek salad you can get at a diner down the street. I miss the quality that Hamido pickup/delivery use to have, the whole meal was delicious together. It was always fresh even when having seafood delivered. To get that kind of quality now, you need to go sit down at the restaurant. I will say though, the pita and the seafood is still absolutely amazing. Thank God that hasn't changed.

I love the food. And service and quality of the seafood here. It's a family style restaurant with chill ambiance. Two levels, full of people and families bustling and munching on the fresh seafood. My favorite is the scallops and red snapper! Definitely visit for a delightful seafood meal.

Good spot for lunch or dinner. Lunch specials are about 20$ or you can order fresh from the seafood bar. Space is clean and staff are very welcoming. Ordered scallops grilled, and their brazino and scallop pasta lunch special. Parking street and metered.

You go in and select your seafood and the way you wanted cooked. Then just go to the table and enjoy your food. This place gets really crowded so plan ahead

I've been here twice and it's been a consistently delicious experience! They have two floors so there's plenty of seating for a popular spot. The fish monger is helpful and knowledgeable. When you sit at your table you are given mint water which is a lovely touch. The food is seasoned to perfection and the prices are great especially with such great quality.

12/28/24 Finally made it. This is their new location. Similar to prior long lines but although it felt long we were waiting for about 20/25 minutes. As it is a fish market you select your items let them know how you want it prepared. They let you know your table you order your sides as you wait for your food to arrive. I will say they have this process down. I will say if you are extremely hungry not a spot to try as they do not take reservations and line can be long. There is no alcohol for purchase i believe you may bring your own as I saw various tables with wine, beer, champagne etc. Staff really bustle and constantly moving. Once food arrive everything was delicious. You will not be disappointed I

The food has always been freshly prepared, in large portions, and cooked quite well. I'm thankful that has not changed much. On my most recent visit, we got a Mix Grilled and Vegetarian Plate to share between four people. There was so much food that we did not have dessert next door as originally planned. Prices are higher nowadays, but you are receiving great value for what you pay. Both chicken shawarma and the beef kufta from the Mix Grilled tasted great, especially with the provided zesty white sauce. I also added hot sauce to mine, which made it more satisfying. The chicken kebab was not bad, it had a nice char, but slightly dry. All of the accompanying humus (a bit salty), salad, rice, and garlic pita were excellent too. For the Vegetarian Plate, though good, I would like the falafels to be fluffier. The best things I enjoyed on the plate was the fried eggplants and baba ghanosh. It also comes with cous cous, which was good. Fresh middle eastern cuisine, made with quality ingredients and care, this restaurant may not be my first choice in Astoria because it's not as sexy as some of the other offerings, but I'm glad that they are still around when I just want a quality meal at a reasonable price.

We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share and Mix Grill entrees for our party of 7. I would say it's a pretty simple and standard order. No deviations, substitutions, or anything out of the ordinary. Despite that, our drinks took ~20 minutes, the appetizers took 30+ minutes, and our entrees 30+ minutes after that. The Mint Lemonade was so small and tasted artificial. For ~$9, I expect more. The only appetizers worth trying are the Hummus Baba Ganouj, and Falafel. Everything else sadly missed the mark. The Fatoush & Tabouleh were promising but pretty sad. It lacked dressing (lemon and olive oil), flavor, and there were way too many unnecessary lettuce leaves on or around the bowl. I did enjoy the Zikrayat Mix Grill. The meats were tender, well-seasoned, and juicy, the rice was light and fragrant, and it was filling. I found the appetizers to be overpriced and along with the extremely slow service, I didn't leave feeling like it was worth it. I don't think I'll be back.

It's a little overwhelming because there is definitely a lot of seafood to choose from. The fish selection looks fresh but they do have some previously frozen seafood like large prawns and lobster tails. They have the names of everything and the price per pound posted which can be a little intimidating because it's a bit expensive. We ordered a grilled branzino and asked for the large tiger shrimp. The staff behind the counter said it would be the ones without the head but when long at the sign, it said head on tiger shrimp so I was a little confused but we just went with it because we assumed the staff knew what they were talking about. We did also get the head-on large prawns. We asked for everything to be grilled and confirmed that they don't use butter or cheese or cream on anything and then we went upstairs to get a table. Upstairs by the window is nice because you can people watch on a good day. We asked the staff member if there were any butter or cream or cheese in the mezza or rice and she said no, so we proceeded to order those and also asked about the soup of the day. She told us it was a shrimp and corn soup and that sounded good so we ordered that as well. The mezza came and the babaganoush and moussaka were good. The lemon potatos were fine but other places have made it better. The tahini was tahini and nothing special. The soup came and we took a sip and it tasted like cream so we were confused because the staff member didn't mention cream when she was taking about it. We asked about it when another staff member came by to drop off the rice. The original staff member who helped us came back over and we asked her if there was cream in the soup. She told us that yes because it's a chowder and the chowder has dairy and told us that we ordered the soup. I'm not denying that we ordered it. My issue is that we specifically asked about avoiding dairy in other food menu items and she didn't even stop to mention that hey the soup of the day that you want is a shrimp and corn chowder and has dairy. She took it back but I felt like we were inconveniencing her because of her tone. The mains arrived shortly after. The head-on prawns came and then the branzino. The large head-on prawns were overcooked and a little rubbery. The branzino was a touch too lemony but that was probably my fault for squeezing lemon over it. The fish was firm and smooth. There wasn't a lot of flavor on either dish. By this time, our table is pretty full and one of the staff members came by with the tiger shrimp and he more or less just stared at the full table and then plopped the plate down right next to my husband's phone. We barely even had time to move plates around to clean up space for him, but I feel like they should have definitely looked a little harder because one of our plates was just full of bones and shells and could have been taken away which would have made room for the shrimp. They were also over cooked and rubbery. Throughout our meal, no one came to check on us once. At the end of the meal, I used my own hand sanitizing wipes and was a little puzzled that they don't give any to customers. We got the bill and were a little peeved that they charged us $3 to butterfly the branzino. We weren't told about that and we didn't particularly ask for them to butterfly it. There's individual hand wipes by the stairs and it's odd that staff don't bring them to you once you're ready to pay. Are customers expected to walk around with dirty hands to go grab the wipe by the stairs? It's definitely a one time experience and overall, I wouldn't recommend it for the poor service and seafood being overcooked and underwhelming.

Right when we got seated, the manager brought us freshly prepared, piping hot pieces of Falafel. Very good and well prepared. Very nice of him. Then So I ordered myself their chicken shawarma. The chicken was a little dry but it was still flavorful and delicious. A little hint of Sumac. What I would recommend is management to take a little more precautions on their customers. We ordered their famous Mixed Feteer, which is basically like their house pizza. And it took about 20 minutes to make and I totally understand that it gets a little busy but we have to prioritize the first customers all the way to last.
