It was a really beautiful day and you can't beat being right along the water. The puzzles we thought were on the easy side, but still challenging enough where we took over an hour to complete from start to finish. Most of our team are engineers so we loved the puzzles and caught on quick. The gals who run the activity mentioned that they have other versions that are much more challenging, so we may be interested in the future. Overall, I'd recommend Downtown Detectives! Wow what an experience. This is a great activity for both local residents as well as tourists. It bring you around the heart of Huntington Beach and allows you to lead about its culture. My friends and I decided to try this out. It is kind of like an escape room except it is all outdoors. When you first get there Nina and Jenna tell you the rules and give you a binder where it has different clues and tools to help you figure out the puzzle. Downtown detectives is a great scavenger hunt/puzzle solving experience through the Main St. area of Huntington Beach. A couple of things so that people know what they're getting into: 1. It involves moderate walking; the estimate was about 2 miles, but was not an issue/light enough for a person who was pregnant (and showing). 2. Puzzles are intuitive and difficult enough for adults (our groups were made up of 30 year olds and all of us had to call for help) but doable for all ages. 3. You will be walking outside around the HB Main St area throughout the whole hunt (so use sunblock, comfortable shoes, comfortable clothing, etc). 4. We had a group of 13 which we ended up splitting into 3 teams; splitting a group into a max team size of 2-4 would be good if you have a large group. Jenna and Nina were very accommodating (one of us came down with COVID so we were able to reschedule a couple of days ahead without an issue) and are very prompt. It was a great experience and everyone enjoyed the difficulty and activity. They offer a separate hunt in HB that we are looking forward to doing in the near future. read more

We booked Downtown Detectives game in Huntington Beach for a corporate team building event. For starters it was super easy to make the reservation and handle the logistics. We were a group of about 20 people split into 5 teams. We gave the teams two hours to complete the game. All teams were able to finish in the time frame. Everyone came back energized and ranked it one of the best team building activities we have done. The puzzles are challenging but not so hard that they are frustrating. Nina and Jenna were extremely pleasant and easy to work with in booking the date. My husband, my son (15 years old), and I recently tried the Downtown Detectives outdoor adventure experience in Huntington Beach. We have never done an escape room or anything like this before, and boy were we amazed! When we arrived at the meeting place, we were warmly greeted by Nina and Jenna (the brilliant creators of the game). They explained the rules and presented us with a notebook of clues and a map that showed us the locations we would be walking to around Huntington Beach. We were all pleasantly surprised at how clever their puzzles were and at how they worked the existing artwork and architecture of Huntington Beach right into their puzzles. It was fun to see how each of us brought something different to the game to help solve the puzzles. In addition to the fun of working out the puzzles, the scenery of downtown Huntington Beach itself was captivating. It took us just a little over 2 hours to complete the outdoor mystery game. My son said it was exciting and challenging and it kept his interest the whole time. Since our minds were continually challenged for two hours, we were all a bit exhausted when we finished, but in a good way! We talked about it the whole way home and I couldn't get the game out of my mind for a week after. I don't understand how Nina and Jenna's brains work to create something so clever, but I can't wait for them to come up with another game so we can play that one too; I'm hooked! I can see this as a really fun "team building" exercise for a company, or as a fun way for teens or adults to celebrate a birthday, or just something out of the ordinary to do on a weekend! My partner and I played Downtown Detectives' Huntington Beach outdoor mystery challenge and had a great time! The puzzles have just the right amount of difficulty so we felt really smart and accomplished when we were able to figure them out.  The location in downtown Huntington Beach is really fun, too.  It's a beautiful area bustling with people which makes the game that much more enjoyable.  I think the length of the challenge is just right.  It took us about 2.5 hours to get through it and by the end we were tired but not exhausted.  The creators of the game are also really nice and helpful.   I can't wait until they create another challenge so I can do it again! ​ read more

This game truly rocks! I originally got tickets in 2019 and with covid, had to post pone. Finally got to play with my husband 2/13/21. This game was put together so well and you really have to think outside the box. We got 2 hours to try to complete 10 clues and finished 6 but got one wrong. Wish we had another 2 hours! I highly recommend this game for those who enjoy walking around, seeing the sights snd if you need help with a clue (like we did) you can call in and they will give you another clue.
