I came here for a second opinion after another practice told me I'd likely need a full tooth extraction and same-day implant -- while I'm eight months pregnant. Thankfully, this team took the time to truly evaluate my tooth and discovered that all I needed was a simple crown replacement, not an extraction. They explained everything clearly, treated me with compassion, and even took care of the issue the same day. I felt completely safe and cared for, which means a lot during pregnancy. Dr. Cross and his team are amazing! My availability is pretty scarce and I wanted an 8am appointment before work. I scheduled an appointment for a few weeks out and asked them to call me if they ended up having a cancellation. I received a call just a couple of weeks later letting me know they had a cancellation and were able to see me the next day if I was able. This might have been the first time a doctor actually called when there was a cancellation - and it was much appreciated! The front office staff was great, and the dental assistants I've had each time I've gone have been really nice and helpful as well. Dr. Cross himself is very patient, communicative, and thorough. I had a veneer redone on a tooth a few years back from an accident I had as a child (Side note: It's not very wise to dive into three feet of water), and I wasn't happy with the way it looked. This was my front tooth, so I was a little self conscious about the way it was contoured and chipped. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a dentist. Once they charged me the total amount of the work to be done, they had no interest in seeing me again, even though the work was only half done. They used excuses like a fire in the building. They are mean, heartless people who refused to let me make an appointment and they hung up on me once I acquiesced to their aversion to me. They lied about all my attempts to come in. Its a scam. I paid $500.00 for teeth whitening and only received half and no trays to take home. During my first visit, they had me lean back to put the upper tray in, the paste oozed down my throat as gravity kept it from remaining in the tray, which made me wonder if they have ever done this before. Surely one should be sitting up straight for that procedure. I could only stand 2 of the four treatments on my first visit, and the doc said no problem, just come back and we will finish and make the trays. But the front desk was not on board. They asked if I wanted any other procedures and I did not, so since they were not getting any more money from me, they (Kristine and Casey) were rude, mean and refused to make another appointment. I was so upset, I threatened to sue, and then they allowed a new appointment, but I was so upset I said forget it (in tears) and they hung up on me. I am sure they are happy, they got my money and they don't have to finish the promised treatment. I urge you never step foot in their office. don't believe them, don't be duped as I was. read more

This used to be Country Club Family Dentistry with Dr Pederson at the helm. Since Dr. Cross took over (who was on Pederson's staff), he has changed the name to OC Lifesmiles. I have been coming to the old and new dentistry for probably 15 years with Dr Pederson yanking out all four of my wisdom teeth in one sitting with just local painkillers. That was back in the day when he would place his boot on your chest and start yanking on the molars. Flash forward to now and Dr. Cross does excellent work, most recently removing my silver fillings and replacing with new ceramic? fillings, I think, which are supposed to be better. Dr Cross is a nice and friendly chap, so you feel comfortable when visiting. The office staff and hygienists are great too. However, the hygienists are a bit militant when it comes to teeth cleaning and badgering their clients into better oral hygiene- especially on the flossing front. In fact, recently, I was assigned a new hygienist and she brow beat me into submission during me first cleaning about being more vigilant on the flossing front. Don't get me wrong, she is a very dedicated and very nice person but since I have been flossing more, is less Nurse Ratchet on me. This is a high quality dental team! read more

Do not trust them! I did a lot of dental work at this place. I trusted them 100% and now I regret. They used all my insurance on my gums cleaning. Later I was told by my school dentist that my gum did not have any problem. By the time I visited OC lifesmile, I had a lot of dental works needed to be done and I could not afford them all. So I asked the dentist which one is more urgent to start with. They told me that I need to do deep cleaning on my gums otherwise I might get some sever gum disease (I was checked by our school hygienist a month earlier and had no problem by that time). Even though I told them that I had recently done my general cleaning at school, the hygienist made me to do it again by telling me that we do it in a different way. Once it was done, I noticed its exactly the same type of cleaning and I ended up doing two time general cleaning in one month. The hygienist did some test on my gums and told me that two quarters of my gum need deep cleaning and the rest is okay. when I visited them later to do the deep cleaning, another hygienist told me all four parts need deep cleaning without even doing any test. She was so tough about it that even though I asked her to start with those two quarters, she refused and told me there is no difference between them and all are at the same priority. Eventually I ended up using all my insurance limits and paying a large amount out of my pocket for some unnecessary work, while having lots of serious decays and cavities. read more

I moved here from Minnesota leaving behind the dentist I went to my whole life. Before OC Lifesmiles I tried two other dentists in Orange County. I won't name any names but one rhymes with Bright Now dental off Harbor blvd ( oops) and I was thoroughly disappointed. Some coworkers recommended me here and I love it. The staff is great, everyone is friendly and has a good sense of humor. They always run on time which I appreciate. Tiffany is awesome! She cleans teeth like a boss. Dr. Cross is great too, nice guy easy to talk with, gave me my favorite filling so far. They didn't try to up sell me and replace my one silver filling (which I acquired at my first California dentist) like my previous dentist did as it is structurally intact and has a few years of life left. I waited a long time to get three crowns put in because it was expensive and time consuming. I just had my gum lasered by Dr. Cross. It was something that came up quickly( a week of mouth wash rinsing, and extra flossing over the usual brushing) before I contacted OC Lifesmiles. The next day Dr. Cross did a great job and the healing process was not much more than 3 Ibuprofen and 3 cleansing syringes to clean the surgical area. I am most impressed with the up to date techniques. He is an interested dentist and I am pleasedwith my hygenist for the usual check up. Dr.Cross is a great dentist 5/5 stars. He has a great backhand on the tennis court and has a great taste of music.

Although they provide good dental care, there is a strong focus on cosmetics, which is the most profitable area (after all, it's Newport Beach!). I was told by Dr. Cross that both my porcelain crowns were cracked and needed replacement, I needed scaling on both upper and lower and other work. He provided me a cost estimate like I was at a car dealer that added up to over $3,000, and would not be covered by my insurance. I subsequently went to another dentist that took X-rays and said he was confounded as both crowns were in excellent condition, my fillings were fine, but did conclude I needed scaling - however only on the lower teeth, not upper. The second dentist only charged $300 for the scaling. In conclusion, I felt like Dr. Cross and OC Lifesmiles tried to rip me off for treatment I didn't need - thank goodness I got a second opinion! read more
