When I first started with Brad two years ago, I was 63. I've always done activities like biking, hiking and dancing, but I had never done any strength training. I had no body awareness or any idea how to lift a weight or anything. I'd had leg pain for several years and I'd see a physical therapist, but the pain would always return. In my first meeting with Brad, he took me through some exercises to assess my fitness. I thought by being active I was in pretty good shape, but I was shocked at how weak I was and it really scared me. Working with him, I learned about muscular imbalances and how I'd been compensating for weak muscles by using other muscles. As I got stronger, I realized that physical therapy never worked for me because it wasn't addressing the real problem. I couldn't ice and stretch my way out of my leg pain, I had to strengthen my way out of it. I was never a believer of personal training until I met Brad. I was at 24% body fat, weighed 200 lbs at 5'6", never played sports or did any substantial training in the past. Brad is the most knowledgeable trainer I have ever had. I've definitely had my fair share of trainers (think more than 10+) in the past decade and was never really impressed until I met Brad! I personally was not looking to lose weight or have someone push me to work out or usual reasons why someone would want a trainer. I am very active (pre-COVID) doing 3 hours of jiu jitsu, aerial, long hikes and gym on my own daily. However because of the nature of some of those activities, I developed severe imbalances in my body. My body became strong in certain areas and extremely weak in other areas. I developed horrible habits of using stronger secondary muscles, compensating for my weak muscles with them to do the task making my body even more imbalanced! I was very much one sided as well to the point where I had so much pain in my right shoulder I couldn't even lift up my arm a few years ago. That was when I started my long journey of PTs and trainers to help me. Most trainers I met did not really understand my problems and definitely did not fix them or address them. Also, major pet peeves I had with some of my old trainers were they would do other things like be on their phones, talk to other gym goers, etc during the whole session but Brad will watch you and correct your form which in my case usually goes bad when I get tired towards the end of set and I'm no longer thinking about form, I just want to be done and my bad habits take over. Brad is an amazing trainer, and he is effectively a very good physical therapist at the same time. I have a chronic knee injury where I am missing cartilage, and he has been able to help me with stretching and increased flexibility and strengthening opposing muscle groups at the same time to work around the injury and eliminate the need for major surgery which very well might do more harm than good. I cannot emphasize the value of his skills and expertise enough. I found OCPT through a Groupon Deal (4 sessions for $40) about two months ago. At first I was a bit skeptical (that deal seems too good to be true!), but OCPT is truly wonderful. The facilities are clean, parking is very convenient, and most importantly, my trainer Corey Contreras was absolutely amazing. I ended up training with him for about 4 more weeks for 3 times a week (on top of those 4 sessions), and every single session was worth it, even above and beyond what I expected. Corey was very understanding of my goals (to learn resistance training, safely), and my needs (I could not afford to train with him long-term), and was completely dedicated towards teaching me different exercises that I could later do on my own. He is professional, knowledgeable, motivating, and has a beautiful personality that I am sure anyone would get along with. He was always attentive about making sure I was doing the exercises right and correcting my form, which was exactly what I needed. He also gave me some MAGICAL massages. For instance, I killed my upper back/traps bouldering one day...I was all messed up for many days, but after he gave me a massage everything was better! I've never experienced anything like that. So I would highly recommend massage therapy here as well--it certainly pairs well with some intense training! I should also note that even though I couldn't afford long-term training at OCPT (I am a graduate student), it is actually VERY affordable for personal training, even compared to what my university offers to its students. I've been training with Chris at OCPT since March, and I'm starting to see really great results! I had been trying on my own for the last two years (after having my first baby), and found that getting back in shape was a lot harder than it was before having a kid. Chris really knows his stuff, and is very professional. I actually heard about him and OCPT through my husband, who started with him at Equinox and followed him when he moved studios (and the rates are MUCH better at OCPT). He is very serious about his job. Since I started in March, he's only cancelled on me once, and it was because he was sick. Definitely can't blame him for that, given that I've cancelled once a few hours before my session due to knee pain, and I've been late due to work a few times. When I've been late, he makes me work extra hard for the shorter time so that I get my money's worth :) He has been very flexible in accommodating my schedule, so that I can usually fit in 3 sessions a week with him. I highly recommend training with Chris at OCPT (but, if his schedule is full, everyone else always seems to be getting good workouts from the other trainers too)! read more

I don't really exercising. Like I really, really hate it. But somehow Brad has convinced me to show up biweekly for the last two months. Part of it is that I have a pretty large incentive to show up financially. I pay for the month at the beginning and would be out a fair chunk of change if I skipped a session. He is really nice and doesn't take issue with the fact that I loathe every single exercise we do. And I make sure to voice my displeasure as I am going. He is really patient and never makes me feel bad if I can't do something, altho he is always pushing me to try harder. I like that the gym is private. I am semi-convinced that people only go to large gyms to laugh at the people who suck at working out. I realize this isn't true but I still dislike working out around other people. And I find the sheer scope of regular gyms intimidating. I know very little of working out, but Brad is always making sure I have the correct form and posture. Sometimes that means holding down a shoulder or modifying an exercise. He keeps count of the repetitions so I can't cheat and count by 2's or anything :p read more

Update: Cisco was very nice and professional. He reached out to me to set something up. If he reached out to me first, then I would probably have had a difference experience here. I got the groupon personal training sessions to try to get back into exercising. I've never gymed much, so I was excited to try this place out and learn some basic information/sets to do by myself even after the training. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed in the service that was provided. I left a voicemail with them, which was promptly responded to by Brad through a text follow up with some questions about what I was looking for and my goals. After responding, I heard no response from him for almost 1 whole month. I finally texted him again to schedule an appointment. With no greeting, no apology for ignoring my previous message, and a complete change in tone, he tells me that he is not free any of the times that I was free and that he is completely booked and to contact another trainer there. Well, I would have appreciated if he just told me that a month ago instead of ignoring my message, or the least he could have done was apologize for the delay. Either way I am a client, and I did not feel like he cared about my business. So my guess/recommendation is to just not say that you're looking for a short term thing or else you may just get the cold shoulder. read more

I was in a car accident 3 years ago, and since then it has been very challenging for me to be as active as I once was. I tried physical therapy, chiropractor, acupuncture, yoga, meditation, massage therapy, and sports medicine doctors. It seemed like these methods were not good enough to help me with my injuries. I felt so far away from resuming the sports that I used to be able to do, it was debilitating. I came in and was assigned trainer Chris; whom offered me 3 free sessions to see if I liked the facility as well as his training. He did good! I started working with Brad a month ago with multiple running injuries and very little strength. He immediately addressed my injuries through proper form in weight training, stretching and foam rolling. I have been an avid runner for 23 years and developed knee pain caused from extreme tightness in my legs. Found out about this place from Living social. Went for my assessment the first session and Chris asked about my goals, and took measurements. And got me a little sample of the workout i was going to get. He was very professional and knowledgeable and I am quite happy with the workout. My body was sore and i learned a few tricks from him. My workouts went well. Since I m only avail for early morning, he was accommodating enough to get up early for his clients. Most trainers will try to make you come at their schedule but Chris will work with you on your schedule. the gym is clean and equipment are well maintained. not crowded and you dont need to wait in line to use the weights. I lived around the corner from OCPT for a couple of years and finally decided to give them a try. I wish I had started years ago. Brad helped me loose over 20 lbs, lean out and gain strength safely using the Functional Movement System training method. He is professional, knowledgeable and motivating. We started by evaluating where I was physically and developed a training plan and goals. He explained the purpose and theory of each exercise and was always attentive about making sure I was doing the exercises with the correct form, definitely lots of critiquing in the beginning.
