Went to OCCO with my husband on Black Friday for lunch first time. Ambiance was good. They did not have too many veggie/ vegan options. We ordered the Buddha bowl and Cobb salad. The Cobb salad included chicken, bacon but I had asked for these items to be removed. The egg was also removed without letting m know but we were so hungry at that point we didn't say anything. Typically most restaurants would reduce the price considering I took away all the meat item but they did not so that was slightly disappointing. Had to wait for service as there was only 2 servers and they were very busy. Food was good but the portions were small for the price.

The portobello tempura mushroom taco is SO bomb! Fish taco is equally as good. Seafood chowder shared with hubby was amazing and seasoned perfectly with tons of seafood. I love their updated menu and how they have so many vegetarian offerings. There is literally something for everyone on the menu. Their taco offerings are pretty appealing too! Chicken shawarma taco....southern fried tofu taco and tuna poke taco to name a few. YUM! Service was friendly and quick. Only downside was being seated by the washrooms, where it's pretty high traffic as well. With two kids it worked out though and we had easy access for diaper changes and hand washing. We have actually visited this restaurant numerous times and never had the chance to dine on the other (lesser traffic side, in my opinion) throughout our visits. Maybe one day? lol. I'll definitely be back for some more tacos and chowder. Solid 4.5 stars for this visit.

Good food in Orleans! Actually I've hit a few good spots and Occo is among them. The chef clearly prioritizes combinations of flavors and some exotic treats (like donair egg rolls!) with a well thought out presentation. I've been a number of time and the food is always a hit. Try the Newfie cod cakes for a taste of maritime Canada and the fish and chips are outstanding! This review was inspired by the Lobster roll as well as the consistently delicious candied bacon. There have been a few minor issues, such as a long wait time, flat soda and an overworked, slightly confused server. All easily corrected and I keep going back, proving the adage that it's all about the food.

We love this place! This is one of our go to places when we have visitors from out of town. The best plate they have and a fan fav is their beer battered fried fish. We usually taste the local beer of the Ottawa area. On this day, the place was packed. This restaurant used to be probably a Beni Hanna Hibachi because there are two over head grills. Open for lunches and now groups even for business. Great menu at affordable pricing. Plenty of parking as it is part of a large strip mall in Orleans. $$$

This is my second time coming to OCCO's kitchen. It's been delicious both times. I got the Locco burger with a hot chocolate (I know lol. Hot chocolate is weird). The burger comes with a side dish. I chose herb fries with their own homemade ketchup. It was delicious. I recommend the Locco. The hot chocolate was very well done. This was not the Carnations stuff. You can tell it was homemade. It came with chocolate sprinkles and whip cream. I am a hot chocolate lover and I had to try OCCO's hot chocolate. It was worth it for me.

I finally tried out the restaurant location on a weekend evening and it was packed! I had to wait about 5 mins for a table, but they have comfy leather couches. Interiors are really clean and comfortable. I tried the locco burger my friend had, and i got a poutine, and prefer the captain smash burger I had before. This burger was quite plain and the patty wasn't that tasty; my friend was disappointed but I assured them the other burgers with more toppings were much better. As for my poutine, it was a really large portion for $11! The fries were tasty, the gravy wasn't too salty, and there enough curds. The crispy bits on top were delicious! I really enjoyed it, but wish there was slightly more gravy. Service was polite and not chatty, and a bit slow, but there were lots of people. Next time I'd get their other burgers for sure, and maybe some tacos!

TL;DR/The Short Version: Delicious food at popular…read morerestaurant in the Byward Market. The beef cheek was melt-in-your-mouth. The Long Version: I was at Play Food and Wine Bar for a professional event that was sponsored by a pharmaceutical company. We were a group of about 30-40 people and had a section of the restaurant to ourselves. We had a set menu with a choice of mains (beef or vegetarian). We started off with a few hors d'oeuvres served on spoons. Servers were going around with them and I got to try two different types. One was a shrimp on a dollop of wasabi cream and the other was a gnocchi. Both were tasty and prepared us for the delicious meal to come. We all had the mixed salad, which was a spring mix with grapes, candied pecans, and whipped goat cheese, in a cucumber and mint vinaigrette. I loved the different textures and even though the salad came pre-dressed (I always prefer dressing on the side), the dressing wasn't heavy, so I didn't find it too overdressed for my tastes. For my main, I chose the beef cheek (the vegetarian option was gnocchi). The beef cheek was so tender and literally fall-apart. I didn't even need a knife. It was so flavourful too. It came with mushrooms and mashed potatoes. There was an olive and sun-dried tomato sauce on the beef that I found a too potent and overwhelming in flavour, but overall I still enjoyed the main. For dessert we had the chocolate tart. It had salted caramel on it and under the layer of chocolate was a layer of white chocolate fudge. It was very rich and decadent...overly so. I finished it nonetheless, lol. Service was excellent. We had several servers assigned to our group and they were attentive. They kept our water glasses and wine glasses full. Although I enjoyed the Pinot Grigio, I was driving, so had to limit myself to a glass and a half. Play Food and Wine Bar is owned by Stephen Beckta, who is a bit of a local celebrity, lol. His first restaurant is Beckta, which I have been to and while it's more upscale than Play, I actually enjoyed the food at Play more. His other restaurant is Gezellig, which is in my neighborhood (Westboro) and I've been to it a couple of times, and I definitely like Play better. I'm glad I was introduced to Play. The room we were in was lovely. It was long and narrow and had a bar. As with all restaurants in the Byward Market, parking is paid parkade parking or paid street parking only. Review #139 (2025)

I guess itsya popular time to eat! 3 weeks was worth the wait, as the anticipation of what we were about to enjoy grew stronger. Bread to start, with whipped butter. Hot from the oven. Soft, pillows of carb goodness, with a touch of salt. We started with the TOMATOES WITH FIOR DI LATTE AND RICOTTA STUFFED ZUCCHINI BLOSSOMS which was devine. My main was the ROASTED RAINBOW TROUT WITH BOILED POTATOES, PASTIS HOLLANDAISE AND SEA ASPARAGUS and hers was SWEET CORN AGNOLOTTI WITH BUTTER, PECORINO AND JALAPEÑO. Both dishes were faultless. We finished with Eton Mess with meringue, whipped cream and stewed rhubarb for dessert. It looks like a LOT, but the meringue is mostly air, so we tackled it with ease. And, it wasn't as sweet as expected. Americano to cleanse the palate. Fortunately, we found a parking spot right around the corner, so our full bellies didn't have to go too far.

So just look for the Quickie and once you're inside you'll see the Meatheads in the corners. It's takeout only. Nowhere to sit and eat. Although they do have a couch to sit and wait. And wait you will, it took us over 30 minutes for our food. Lots of people phoned in their order or came in to order and left and came back. We just waited there, but we might phone in our order next time. I got the Kickin' Chicken Sandwich ($10) and made it a combo with fries and a can of pop (+$2). My mom got the Orleans Cheese Steak Sandwich ($15) and made it a combo with a poutine and a can of pop (+$4). My chicken sandwich was delicious. It was 2 pieces of breaded chicken tenders tossed in a spicy sauce on a bed of coleslaw, in a brioche bun. The menu said it comes with lettuce and tomatoes, but for some reason my sandwich was missing these ingredients. It was still really tasty, but I would have liked the extra vegetables. My fries overall were good, but some fries were kind of dry and hard. I enjoyed my mom's poutine a lot more because the cheese and gravy made the hard fries softer. Although the gravy tasted a bit fattier than I like, lol. I also had some of my mom's cheese steak and it was good too. It had cheese, mushrooms, onions, and pickles, in addition to the thinly sliced steak mixed in BBQ sauce. The bread was a bit like a baguette in density, which I liked because it didn't get soggy. I like how the containers were made of cardboard and are biodegradable. No styrofoam, yay! Service was friendly. The owner chatted with us a little. He is looking at opening a restaurant, as they are very busy and have pretty much outgrown their set up inside of the Quickie. His fiancee taking our orders was nice as well. Looking forward to trying their other items. They have specials not on their regular menu sometimes too. On the day we went it was fish and chips. Lots of free parking in the Quickie parking lot.
