Lora meets her students inside the Gateway Grand and then walks them either to the beach or in a small room when the weather is not cooperating. Unfortunately the day I attended it was raining but I was happy to hear that I could still practice inside the Gateway Grand, especially because I am not a resident of the condo community. Each class is $10 cash and it is collected at the beginning of class. There is a side street available for parking but be prepared with coins because the side street is metered. Class is on Fridays at 8:30am to approximately 9:30am. You also need a yoga mat or beach towel (I prefer a towel if I am practicing on the sand), water and sunscreen. I only had the opportunity to attend one class but it was very beginner friendly. I did not really break a sweat, but I was able to stretch, relax and meditate. During the final savasana Lora asks if you would like some essential oils sprayed on your wrists and/or an eye mask to help you relax. I choose a chamomile-lavender spray but declined the eye mask. On the website, it seems that she is expanding and offering SUP yoga. I wish I could try it out myself.

She was totally organized about planning everything in advance and was creative about helping plan a class that worked for our diverse group (non yogis, yogis, and two pregnant mommas). Kim is the coolest, was on time, and everyone in our group LOVED and RAVED about how much we loved it for the remainder of the weekend. Can't recommend enough- loved every bit of working with Kim and Ocean Vayu Yoga!

I have certain physical limitations, and Kelly is very conscientious about working around those limitations. Not only does she teach Pilates, but she also offers yoga, barre and healthy cooking classes and demos. I went to one of her raw food demonstrations yesterday evening and had a great time watching Kelly prepare a protein smoothie, a Glowing Strawberry, Mango, Avocado Sprouted Salad and, best of all, her Raw Walnut Cacao Bars, which were heavenly! The salad called for cilantro, which I'm allergic to. Not a problem at all--Kelly just served me before putting the cilantro in. There was a small group of women in the class for this Sunday night candlelight hot yoga session. The instructor spoke with us very calmly and encouraged everyone in their practice. Coming here to this studio was a wonderful choice for getting back into yoga because they are so friendly and helpful. The session was calming, and an amazing way to begin your work week. Something positive and relaxing on a Sunday night. Super excited to have found this studio, and can't wait to visit more frequently.

Dawn, the owner of OC SUP & Fitness, got me into SUP a little over a year ago when I took a "flowga" class with her (yes, that would be yoga on a paddleboard in the middle of the bay) and I was instantly hooked. I spend most of my weekends in OC, and I still take her fitness classes whenever I can. Aside from the flowga classes, OC SUP & Fitness offers a variety of other fitness classes utilizing paddleboards, including core strengthening and bootcamp classes. The paddleboard bootcamp classes are my personal favorite. I thought I was in pretty good shape until I took one of these classes... I definitely have my ass handed to me each time I take this class. You will do plyometrics exercises and suicide drills on the beachy areas near Fager's in addition to exercises and sprints on the paddleboards. The class may seem a little intimidating but anyone can do it, regardless of fitness level, as long as you're willing to push yourself. I've seen people of all ages and fitness capabilities in these classes, and Dawn puts extra effort into making sure everyone feels welcome and challenged. Most of all she makes sure everyone has FUN! If you're interested in something a little more laid back, you can take private paddleboard lessons or simply rent a board and explore the bay at your own pace. This is a sport that is great for kids, so make sure to bring the entire family! SUP provides a great physical workout, but it is also very relaxing as the feeling of floating and "walking on water" is unbelievably soothing. All of OC SUP & Fitness' classes and board rentals are done out of Fager's Island. The location is perfect, since you can obviously drop into the bar after a nice paddle and grab an orange crush or two afterward! If you become hooked on the sport, like I did, and buy a board you will get a reduced "BYOB" rate for the group fitness classes. There are so many places in OC where you can learn to SUP, but OC SUP & Fitness is always my first recommendation for people who want to learn. See ya in class!
