I used to really like ocean downs casino , however, tonight when I went there I felt like I was getting hustled by the blackjack dealer and the shoe, pit boss. So, its 3 to a table and me and the guy next to the dealer both drew 5 non face cards....dealer starts w a 5 or so and magically hits 21 to beat me and the other player, once , I understand but this or something like it happened 6 or 7 times on the same table. I have noticed as of late the tables w shoes feel a little tighter but this is ridiculous. Sometimes,being a haven from the weather is just what you need at an establishment, and everything else is a bonus. On a rainy Tuesday morning, my boyfriend and I struck out for Berlin from our hotel with $100 each in our pockets, figuring we'd play til we ran out of cash. Apparently, about 200 of our closest friends had the same idea ;) The place is small, but as we're not major gamblers, the size was actually perfect. We could walk around the whole floor without getting overwhelmed, and the bathrooms were easy to find. The main thing is that the place is clean and the temperature is comfortable. I'm told the casino is unable to provide better service because the server(s) are part of a union and adding more servers would reduce the tips per server. So there's rarely more than one (yes, really) for the ENTIRE building. Table games dealers are generally nice, friendly and helpful. No side bets, if that's your thing. No hand-shuffled or even auto-shuffled shoes. Just continuous shufflers no matter the table limits. Also, there's only like 10 tables, and don't expect anything like spanish, pai gow, tiles, bacc, sic bo, asia poker or anything along those lines. Craps offers the lowest odds I've ever seen at 3-4-5x. Serious players should stay away. No comps, free play or match play for table players. To all the women out there, Never go to Ocean City Casino. They are extremely sexist! My name was down on the list to play roulette. However, they purposely skipped my name and allowed atleast 6 men to play before me. Some of these men weren't even on the list to play. I tried to get the casino employee's attention multiple times to see where my name was in the queue. I was ignored. I followed the employee holding the list around the table and was still ignored. Yet! My boyfriend looks at the employee and he immediately runs over. My boyfriend asks about my place in the queue. The employee says my name isn't on the list. I was very suprised by how expensive drinks were, most casinos do the opposite to entice gamblers. I understand that they only have slots but even that did not live up to my meager expectations. Went here on my way out of town. The place is very small and packed with slot machines. They have some virtual table games like blackjack and roulette, but no "real" table games. When I was there on a Saturday afternoon, they at least 10 to 15 security guards walking around this small casino, but one bartender. It took at least 5 minutes to even grab the attention of the bartender every time I went to the bar. The slots use a ticket system, so no need to lug around chips in a cup. The gaming floor in non-smoking, with a smoking area outside. For some odd reason, the slot machines have no cup holders, and very little space between the machines, which is a little inconvenient when you are playing slots while enjoying your adult beverage. This the first casino I have been to as an adult but I just expected more. The Casino is fairly new so it's all machines slots and virtual dealers. I didn't like playing black jack with a virtual dealer.... just didnt seem fair. I like the roulette table because they had a real ball that spun around so I felt I had an actual shot at winning. More video BJ with a human delivery system. The dealer will beat you in more ways than you have ever seen. I'm talking with 7,8,9 card hands, and will pull 21's right out of their whazoo's. The machine routinely deals them an Ace or face to start or they almost always have a hand. I repeat you cannot win here. Double down and you will get an Ace, 2, or 3 every time. I have been to this place many times and have discussed the same findings with many of the top players in the area....We are all fed up. This place is hosed from the get go. Stay away. I have lost 26 hands in a row and I am an experienced player. I do not walk alone with these experiences. You will see things here that you just to not see in "real" Blackjack. I've seen the dealer get 4/5 blackjacks. You will see more 12's,13's,14's,15's then mathematically possible. You will loose more 20 and 19 hands then you can ever imagine and BJ is tough when you cant win with a 19,20, or even 21 (push). You cannot play BJ here by "normal" odds or by the "book" so to speak. I know BJ is a streaky game...not like this. Take my warning now. The dealers are supposed to return the used cards to the CSM machine every hand which not all do. One day I counted nine Aces in the pretty plastic tray and asked why they were not put back in the shuffler? The casino allows ridiculously drunk people to jump in and out of high stakes games randomly at will. You will literally be betting hundreds of dollars and have a drunk fool fall in next to you and spit a pair of kings when the dealer has a face card. There are NO high roller tables and with mid shoe entry allowed you cannot bet with confidence. I honestly feel sorry for the dealers there. The dealers are really nice people but often take the blame for what the machine deals. This is managements fault. Simply put, they are greedy. Trying to max out another 20% more games an hour by saddling unsuspecting customers and seasoned players with essentially video BJ and calling it BJ is not cool. Avoiding true gambling at its roots is not the way to attack and keep clientele. The dealers should be given 6 decks of cards and let them deal. These folks are professional dealers ...let them deal for god's sake. The management has put them in such an awkward position that many have shared their feelings of amazement with me and the other players. Some even hint to there is something fishy going on with CSM machines. Get this...There are NO side bets. I have been miss paid by dealers many times and given the money back to them. Furthermore, I have been actually been chased down a couple times 45 min. later after a hand and been told the dealer paid me too much and they demanded their money back ...yet when their dealer goofs up they let it slide. Never again will we return to this casino. My husband and I are in the area for a few months on a job so we have gone in here a few times to play and this last time we went there Dec 01/2020 after playing for a couple hours a security guy came up to me as I was playing on a machine and excused me of putting my money in a machine over another person's money. To my recollection I did not at any time do that knowingly or intentionally , but he rudely insisted I had. Then asked for my ID which I told him no way so he told me I had to leave, which I intended to anyway after such a terrible accusation. This past weekend I was at my family's beach house in Ocean City, Maryland when I had a terrible experience at the Casino at Ocean Downs in Berlin, MD and was kicked out for breastfeeding my child. The quoted paragraph is what was sent to the casino and a phone call was made asking for a formal apology and they did not apologize, instead they refused to speak to me. "This weekend we were in town at our family's beach house and everyone decided after eating to go to the casino so we all went. I have a 7 week old exclusively breastfed daughter... well we're were not allowed to take the baby in (even in the tula baby carrier) which I understood so my mother and sister offered to watch her for an hour until they came back after running errands. Might I add it was only 8 pm so it was not crazy busy. My mom and sister got back and texted me that she is hungry and cranky so I went outside to get her and take her to our car to feed her and go home when I realized my boyfriend had the car keys and it was freezing cold and raining. Instead of standing outside in the rain I chose to stand right inside the lobby, NOT in the casino or near any area where you had to show an ID or the gaming floor and they came out to where I was and kicked me out. I told him politely I was just waiting for my boyfriend who had the keys when he got smart and started fighting with me. The security officer also then proceeded to tell all other security that he had a situation and had everyone come to the front to back him up. So I will reiterate the fact I WAS NOT INSIDE and they still kicked me out, even though their sign clearly stated she just wasn't allowed on the gaming floor since she was under 21, which I was NOT. Also I will add they did not care that I was standing there until I started to breastfeed my child, which was discreet. So, I don't know about you but they will NEVER again get our money or us to step foot in that establishment. Also, this has been shared over many breastfeeding/mom groups and is going viral. On a positive note, the renovations and new building are definitely a welcome addition. It is nice to have a few new machines and extra space. The bartenders and staff are always friendly and very helpful in both rooms. On a less positive note, entertainment is lacking. I was shocked to see them do away with Sol Knopf and Tear the Roof. What a mistake. All the local casino's offer live music! I would love to bring a friend to the casino, however the handicap bathrooms are lacking rails in the main bathroom and tall seats. The food in the new restaurant is very good. Waitress/Server/bartender was gracious and on the ball but paying the bill was slow. It was not her fault, clearly a tech problem.
