We specifically came to this place because of their 1$ oyster special. Came around the afternoon just to find out that they don't do 1$ oysters until after 4:30pm. I'm pretty sure their menu did not specify it was only dinner special, that's why I thought it was an all day special. Came back around 6pm, and ordered half a dozen. Didn't expect it to come with green onions, masago and sriracha. I'm just wondering if they added those things to hide that it's not fresh because I was not impressed by the taste. I liked how they had a smaller sushi menu just because most sushi places have a ton of rolls, however their sushi rolls did not sound too good or made me want to get them. I am raging !!!! The only star their getting is for decent sushi fix menu. We have been to this place a few times and service was horrible but when you are not in a rush it's not that upsetting. Today me and my kiddo wanted to stop by for some sushi after school eat there and take some to go for the rest of the family. Place is half empty we wait , the lady keeps ignoring us and when I ask her if we can sit she yells wait !!! She sits us next to the door that keeps swinging open Due to cold ass strong wind. I ask her to put us at the table in the corner and she yells no. This is for 4 people not 2. Did I mention place is half empty ? There are people sitting alone at 4 and 6 people tables. This is my go to place for quick and easy Sushi. They have the most reasonable pricing with yummy fresh good. My son always get the bento dinner box and I love the sushi combo. They also have the best happy hour deals during the weekday. Due to Covid we have changed to ordering togo and everything is still very good when we get home. They do offer delivery in the area. Really good, fresh sushi in a small space. Service is not city-paced, but this isn't the city. Sometimes there's a little bit of a language barrier. E.g., we are a little obnoxious and like our negihama (yellowtail and scallion) roll with the filling chopped up, and we've tried unsuccessfully to order an "inside-out" roll with with rice, sesame and tobiko on the outside. But, if you don't go off-menu, you will be pleased. You can easily get a big, filling meal for two with a couple of rolls, some nigiri, sashimi, and tea for $50. I wanted to support local businesses during these COVID times but they're horrible. I walk in, no acknowledgment, after 5-10 min finally asks what my phone number is annoyingly rolling her eyes, starts packing my food, add another few minutes then shoves it to me. The whole time no greeting, no thank you. Food is not authentic and mediocre. The udon was already in the soup waiting there so it had soaked up all the flavorless soup, sushi was mediocre at best. This sushi place lacks major customer service. The food is really good, fresh and tasty. But they can use more in the area of customer service, the ladies there are sometimes very rude and can favor some customers over others. I have been here twice PRE COVID and during COVID (for pick up). When we were there for dine in (pre COVID), as soon as we walked in, the ladies said how many, screaming at us and said to grab a table, NO welcome, no smiles or nothing. When another customer walked in, It's like they saw GOD, "HELLO"!! "WELCOME"!! with huge smiles and welcoming. Seriously??! all your customers should be treated the same. David N and I decided to drive into the fog to find this cute little sushi restaurant in Pacifica. The place was hard to find and smaller than imagined as the humble décor with postings of a few sushi photos defines its parsimonious ambiance for a packed but unassuming crowd. We were so glad to have a reservation as a long line of people waited inside, carefully avoiding cracking the front door for the sake of keeping warm. The menu has a good variety of topical Japanese items but the choice of fish is limited. I was super hungry so after ordering we kept a menu at hand in the event we needed more food. Miso with mussels ($3.50): Although David's regular miso was decent, but the difference between our order was two pieces of mussels that came without the shell. The mussels were pretty good by themselves, but their natural flavors did not effectively penetrate with the broth. Not recommended. Lamb chops ($8.95): This two-piece lamb chops were modest in size and came very tender and juicy. I don't think it's worth the price, but it was still delicious. Negi hamachi temaki ($4): I thought the hamachi was a little fishier than usual. The taste was unremarkable and definitely not worth the price. Spicy scallop temaki ($4): This was the server's recommendation and my favorite hand roll by far. The scallops were fresh with just enough spiciness to give it a finesse kick. I enjoyed the addition of tobiko, avocado, and garnishes, and thought the seaweed was fresh and crisp. Highly recommended. Soft shell crab temaki ($4): The soft shell crab was cold and lumpy and there was more shell than crab embedded. Not recommended. Sake nigiri ($3.95): I thought the sake was very good--thick, buttery and fresh. It was one of the highlights of the evening and definitely worth getting. Uni nigiri ($6.50): I thought the uni tasted pretty good until I bit into the center which was still cold from the refrigerator. I have mixed feelings about the uni since it was relatively fresh but the cold center was a major turn off. I also tried a piece of David's rainbow roll and thought it was outstanding. His roll was pretty small so he had to add a unagi donburi which was much more substantial with a huge hearty piece of unagi with Japanese pickles to go with a large bowl of rice. We were attended to often and provided with complimentary edamame to cut down the wait time. I thought the service was excellent and felt welcomed and right at home. Here's the breakdown in my rating: 1.) Quality and freshness: 3.5 stars. There were some inconsistencies in the fish but overall it was above average. 2.) Creativity and presentation: 4 stars. Everything was nicely presented but the menu is a bit short on temaki and nigiri options. 3.) Quantity and substance: 2.5 stars. I thought portions were modest and even though we ordered a lot of food we were still not full by the end of dinner. 4.) Accessibility and affordability: 2.5 stars. Given their small portions, I thought prices were a little high. I think a restaurant like Minami would give you more for less with fresher fish and better options. 5.) Service and ambiance: 5 stars. Friendly service with a down to earth ambiance. Loved it. Final rating: A rock solid 3.5 stars for an above average experience with some obvious weak spots. Pouring rain and I'm on my way back from picking up the birthday coconut cream pie at Mazzetti's. Where to go for lunch, so I remember my pal Owen said it was okay for a local place, and it's close, and I'm so hungry. Today's bento special is aji fry (or fly as it said on the sign) for 6.99. Seems like a good deal. I indulged myself and started with an order of ikura, kind of my litmus test for straightfoward sushi. It was okay, but the eggs were a little soft, didn't have the pop that I so love on this. The miso was very good, I thought, and I appreciated the addition of the enokis, mushroom fiend that I am. The bento was just fine, nothing special. The california rolls, had little flavor, but the avocado was ripe, and they were rolled well. The salad was your typical bento version with the mayo dressing, which I hate to admit I rather like. No unripe flavorless tomato on top; thank you. The fish was so cute - two perfect little fillets of some very mild white fish (butterfish, maybe) with the little crunchy tails still on. Quick! When you hear the words "deep-fried firecracker balls" or "baked volcano roll" or "mango tango roll," in which direction do you run screaming? Directly toward the entrance of the restaurant offering these morsels? Or is it more like "about, FACE ... forward MARCH" your butt in the opposite direction? Your answer, in large part, will determine what you'll think of Ocean Fish. For the record, I used to be quite the sushi snob and was firmly entrenched in the latter camp. "Yeah," I'd think, "I need raw fish with sticky goop & spicy mayo about as much as a chicken needs an iPad." These days? Well, I guess I've come to the conclusion that the non-traditional stuff can be fine - as long as I don't think of it as "sushi." I'm not out to gratuitously slam the stuff. It's just that it's useless for me to continue trying to reconcile the main offerings at this kind of place with those of a traditional Japanese sushi bar. So, while these kinds of places will never be dining destinations for me, Ocean Fish happens to be close by & they deliver for free, which is not too common in the coastal burbs. And, let's face it, sometimes convenience trumps typically more vital culinary factors. From what we've seen of both the cooked & the raw, the food averages out to somewhere around 3 stars. The advantages of online ordering, free (& sometimes efficient) delivery legitimately boosts the rating, but not all the way up to 4 stars. Like my profile says, though, for me, giving 3 stars to a "neighborhood" place is *not* an insult. Would I order from here again if it wasn't so convenient? No. But when convenience is at a premium or when others in the dining party want this kind of thing? Sure. Their rolls are mostly fine for what they are. I don't impose the usual standards on this type of place. There's not much point in hammering it for not having perfect sushi rice, real wasabi, great green tea, etc. Does the fish smell, look & taste okay? Is the rice at least cooked to the right degree & does it hold together in the rolls, even if it's not seasoned correctly? Do the sauces/spices taste good, even if they do overshadow the fish? If yes, then I'm happy. Not five-stars happy, but A-OK happy. There was really only one occasion when this didn't work out passably, and that was when some hamachi was off. Way off. Oh, and I threw caution to wind once and ordered uni. What was I thinking, right? We've tried the following rolls: - Double Hamachi Roll ($11.95), which is basically hamachi with some scallion - 49er Roll ($10.95), which is mostly salmon with a little avocado, tobiko and lemon - Hawaii Roll ($10.95) with hamachi, sake & tuna all wrapped in soy paper - Dragon Roll ($9.95), which I guess everybody knows whether they want to or not - Oshinko Roll ($3.95) with pickled radish - Spicy Scallop Roll ($6.95) with, well, spicy scallops - And, the pièce de résistance (forgive me for straying so far from the true path!), the Firecracker Balls ($9.95), which are pieces of deep fried tuna roll topped with spicy sauce, scallion & sesame seeds. (My wife made me order it. Honest!) None of it is stellar, but it's mostly fine for what it is. Might you get an unfortunate bite with an impossible-to-chew-through tuna membrane? Sure, but I'm not expecting the same precision knife work here as I would at a Japanese-run place. Just grin and swallow it. Does the fish flavor shine through? C'mon, we're past that by now, aren't we?! (Actually, though, you *could* taste the salmon in the 49er Roll and the hamachi in the Double Hamachi Roll just fine b/c they aren't "saucified.") Of the cooked dishes we tried, the only one that stands out to me as a well-traveling delivery selection is the donburi (bowls of white rice topped w/your choice of savory fare). While living in Japan, I ate donburi in holes-in-the-wall many times b/c it's filling, cheap & there are many variations. Ocean Fish has the variety and the bowls are filling; you can judge value for yourself. Here are the donburi options (some come w/pickled veggies, which is a nice touch): Oyakodon ($8.95) with chicken, eggs & onions Katsudon ($8.95) with fried pork cutlet, eggs & onions Chicken Katsudon ($8.95) with fried chicken cutlet, eggs & onions Niku Don ($8.95) with beef, eggs and onion Chicken Teriyaki Don ($8.95) Beef Teriyaki Don ($8.95) Unadon ($13.00), that austere classic of simple BBQ eel over white rice MISCELLANY: Their online ordering system works well. Ocean Fish has got to be my all time favorite sushi restaurant in Pacifica/Daly City area. They have some amazing deals all the time, eat in and for delivery. They also give you free items when you reach a specific total amount. Eat $30 you get edamme, $35 california roll, $55 rainbow roll. My boyfriend and I usually order delivery from them and they are always super fast with their service. Our usual order includes: Pacific Love Roll- shrimp tem, cucumber, crab meat, topped with salmon, tune, and hamachi Four Seasons Roll-Crab meat and unagi topped with tuna and avocado Screaming Alaska Roll- tune, avocado. Topped with seared salmon Rainbow Roll-Crab meat, avocado, topped with tuna, salmon, ebi, hamachi, and tai. They also offer bento specials for lunch/dinner. I think this might be one of my new favorite places to get sushi near SF-- because price-wise, this place is was so worth it. We came through for dinner around 8PM and there was no wait. After we ordered, we received complimentary salad and miso soup. Things we ordered: - Chirashi Bowl: Their Chirashi Bowl WINS because they give you many of slices of sashimi (so many different kinds too). Usually, when I feel Yuppie-ish and order a Chirashi bowl, they'd normally be around $18-20 a bowl with too little fish, and too much rice. This was $15, and the size was perfect with the selection of fish the sushi chef gives you. - Albacore Tataki: I expected this to taste better. I wanted to like this, but it was just.. bland. Usually, anything with ponzu sauce has a sour, spicy, sweet kick to it. This was just.. sour? - Oysters: These are $1 on Monday to Thursdays. They're also big oysters too :) - Firecracker roll: This is free if your meal costs more than $40. Who doesn't love "free"? Lol well I actually didn't get to try this but my boyfriend liked it. My boyfriend and I have been trying to find a decent sushi spot near us when we have our cravings, since our fave sushi spot (in SJ) is not too convenient for us on a whim. From the outside in, I wouldn't guess that the food is legit. But trust me, their (sake) sashimi is one of the best I've had. Very fresh and delicious. The 5 star review isn't for their service - because it's a hit or miss here. It gets very busy, yet they only have a few staff members to cover the floor. I'd always rather get take-out and enjoy this stuff at home. The cool thing about Ocean Fish Sushi & Grill is that if you order over a certain amount i.e. $40/$50/etc., they do include complimentary sushi rolls/tempura. Guys, we need to have a talk. Yelp gives this place an overall rating of 4 stars which led me to believe this place would be the bomb. But it wasn't. It was just sad. First off, parking is all around the street and timed for 1 hour. Second, the inside of this restaurant was dark. They didn't even turn the lights on. I guess they were depending on the light coming from outside and to save on their electricity, but it was a cold foggy day in Pacifica so it was sort of a sad setting. Third, service was almost nonexistent. The waitress didn't really greet us, instead she just looked at us then pointed at a table in the corner. Okay. And the only other times we saw her was when she took our order, gave us our food, and then gave us the bill. That was it. Never even got a refill on tea or a "how's everything going?" Fourth, they have these specials for their 3rd anniversary and I was pretty excited about the $1 oysters... until the lady said they were out. Oh. Okay. How about an order of uni nigiri? This small sushi joint is tucked next to Ace Hardware. I'm not exactly sure where to park. I ordered pick up, so I parked at the school lot really quickly (on a weekend when school was out). Steals and Deals! I don't want to ramble too much, let's get straight to the important stuff: 1. The Sashimi isn't the freshest, but it's edible. We ordered the $23 Sashimi Deluxe and all of the sashimi tasted a bit fishy, most noticeably, the hamachi. 2. The prices of the rolls are all very reasonable. Probably the cheapest rolls around! 3. There are 3 tiers for deals: a. Free edamame if you spend more than $30. b. Free CA Roll if you spend more than $35. c. Free Rainbow Roll if you spend more than $55. Free stuff is always good. If you're ordering online, the coupon codes do NOT work. They said, these deals are automatic. I ended up calling in my order. The rolls were well made, very neat and tight. The only -1 is for the freshness of the sashimi, which again, is still edible, just not super fresh. Parking is very limited. I can't provide any tips on where to park. read more

My first time there was just last week with my cousins. I was expecting a large place that would usually be packed. But instead, I came across a semi-big place with tables of about 20 or less. Right away, we were greeted then seated to our table. We looked over the menu and ordered bento boxes, the screaming alaska, hot sake, and a beer. First off, we got our miso soup. Then our roll came out before our bentos. At first we were excited to dig in, until my cousin found a bug leg on one of the plates. Our waitress, happily, went to replace it. Then another tiny problem. After that, we ate our food, and received a free complimentary beer and mochi ice cream for the mishap. I've eaten at many sushi restaurants, but by far, this place had one of the best mochi ice cream I've had. Other places were either that the mochi was kept in the fridge too long, or that the dough was completely non-chewable. Here, it was as if it would melt into your mouth. It's nice that they have a website for you to browse through -- the specialty rolls I ordered were $11-12. I would say that this is a gem in an area like Pacifica (no knocks against 94044 or anything!) I ordered through their website and was actually a bit worried that something would go awry so I called them after placing the order to confirm. Sure enough, 15 minutes later, my food was ready to be picked up. LOVE THAT! Sushi was yummy and not just stuffed w/rice. Bento boxes were a good size. If they keep up w/the quality, next time they'll get 5 stars from me! PS - their takeout menu has pictures so be sure to get a copy! I happily stumbled upon Ocean Fish one day after the gym and boy was I glad I did... because all speciality rolls are $2 off for lunch!!! Starving after burning some calories on the elliptical, my mom and I ordered several specialty rolls. (With $2 off, why not!) My recommendation: The Screaming Alaska roll. It is DELICIOUS! The combination of fresh fish and flavorful sauces is enough to get the party started in your mouth. And the best part? Oh Yes. I will be coming back. In all honesty- this is not a gourmet sushi restaurant with exotic rolls. What it is, is a very cute restaurant that offers a variety of rolls and fresh sashimi. Their happy hour looks astounding! I came here on a weekend but I would come here on the weekdays just to take advantage of their happy hour. If you come at the right time, they have specials like: $1/ oysters & $2/ handrolls. That and much more. It is very family friendly and the waitresses are nice. You get fresh fish and very tasty rolls. It was my first time here and I would definitely be making another trip back here. A lot of regulars seemed to stuck to the bento box. I am more a sushi girl. I was walking around the neighborhood with my dog, getting myself acquainted with places around where we lived and saw Ocean Fish Restaurant. It's a very small place, but I grabbed one of their menus to keep just in case. One day, the sisters came over and we were feeling like sushi (when do we ever pass up sushi???). We decided to order and have them deliver. At first glance, they served hawaiian walu - or escolar, which not a lot of sushi places served. We had to try this - and if you haven't tried it - it's a very buttery fish that is very good! The kokkaido winter roll is a winner! It received our stamp of approval in freshness and taste factor. It's spicy scallop topped with walu fish, and wasabi tobiko. They also have other delicious rolls (both cooked and raw). I love that I can find a good sushi place by home without having to go to the city! And they get kudos for delivery....so I can stay home and pig out! read more

I will start off by saying that this Japanese restaurant is comparable to any in the city. However, there are a couple of things that set this place apart from the rest making it one of the best sushi/ Japanese eateries on the peninsula. First of all, my hat goes off to Tony and his imagination in the kitchen when preparing not only sushi nigiri but also his his work with trying new and interesting things to put into his sushi rolls and other dishes. In my opinion, Japanese food not only needs to taste good but also needs to reflect the simplicity and elegance that Japanese culture and food is all about. Food never showed up!!!! I ordered food. They said it was to show up with in 45 minutes. 90 minutes later....I call them. They couldn't find my order. I told them the number. They said they would call the driver. I said refund me. Fire the driver. Now I have to wait for a refund in my card in 4 days. They also leave their fish out side to dry out and let flies land on it. I haven't ordered from them in a year and now I remember why! read more

I cannot believe i have never written a review for Ocean Fish! This is my favorite sushi place in Pacifica (not that we have a ton of options when it comes to sushi). I usually order for delivery or take out, but I have actually eaten there once. They are always super busy, yet very efficient. I don't think they have ever gotten my order wrong which is impressive considering how busy they are. My most recent experience here was 2-3 weeks ago. I called ahead and ordered food to pick up. When I got there they weren't quite done with my order, but there were like 3 other people picking up their food at the same time so the fact that they were running behind is understandable. Plus, the entire dining area was full as well. Anyway, I ordered the bento box with california rolls and short ribs and two orders of california roll for the family. Everything was good as usual and the miso soup was still hot by the time I got home so that's a plus!! My short ribs were kinda under-cooked, but I think it's just cuz the cooks were overwhelmed ,but they still tasted pretty good. My only complaint about this place is that you have to spend a minimum of $25 for them to deliver. Go Sushi's minimum is $20, just sayin!!! But other than that I love this place read more

This is a new place we tried tonight for take out. I love that this little restaurant has a website on which you can place your order and they deliver if you order $20 or more. We decided to pick up our order to check the place out. Small, but has a cozy feel to it. Shrimp/Veggie Tempura appetizer - good Beef/Salmon teri bento - can't really mess up teriyaki Beef short ribs - don't order, meat was tough and undercooked Sesame chicken - tasty but chicken was too fried making it a little dry Volcano roll - not bad Dragon roll - good Angel roll - pretty good In addition, they gave us a free Cali roll and 10% off for their grand opening. It's hard to beat a first impression: There is no motion in this ocean. The online ordering of their food is quite nice and well done. They have a good website for this. For those who may care, the owner is not Japanese but this did not affect my lackluster opinion of their food. First, the food was expensive for the amount provided. For example look at the bento box pictures. These were each not worth $12. I've had more value at other places (Like Honba Sushi in San Jose) where bento lunches sold for $10 than this for dinner. Not only did these lunch bentos include more items (like pot stickers and edamame), they were more generous to begin with with the sashimi or the sushi or the salad. Second, the overall impression was that the fish was not very fresh even though we were probably the first people they served for dinner at since we ordered online to pick up at 4:30 PM when they re-open for dinner. The overall flavors were nothing special. And my wife remarked "probably the worst sushi & sashimi" she's had, having better luck at Safeway. My salmon teriyaki was not bad but neither that nor the spicy tuna rolls made much of an impression so as to be totally forgettable. On the bright side, the service was very friendly and the place was nice and clean and simply decorated. But I'm afraid that I will not be returning since the food was simply not good enough; certainly not worth the $26 bill. read more
