All the food upheld the 20 minute drive home. Chicken wings were delightfully stuffed and crispy. Entree were still warm and not too oily. I love that there is a bit of sear on the pad se ew noodles. The gal who rang me up was kind and speedy. They kept the thai tea cold until pick up which shows great customer service. There are plenty of places who leave your Togo drink on the counter until pick up and this place doesn't do that. Restaurant was practically empty and very clean. Each time I come here I always have the best meal. The ones that stand out to me are the crispy garlic ribs, which are the small crispy ribs that are super flavorful and are delicious on their own with rice. They used to have as fried tilapia or flounder, and they no longer have it, which is too bad. Papaya salad- awesome as well as their pad Thai-- perfectly tangy and saucy, but not too saucy. I'm a curry fan; red and yellow are my favorites. I judge any/all Thai restaurants by their red curry chicken. Happy to say that Shine Thai's red curry is super good. My only complaint is it's always got a bit too much oil in it. Easily remedied via paper towels to absorb off the oil. Regardless, this is legit curry taste. What a delicious and unassuming spot in this hidden strip mall. We ordered the Fresh Rolls (comes with 6 rolls) but asked to substitute the spicy sauce for peanut satay sauce instead - the rolls were okay, but the rice noodles inside felt a bit dry. Wandered in here and decided to try out because we were quite hungry. Pleasant attentive service and good portion sizes (for 2 with leftovers). We got 4 items: Chicken satay skewer appetizer, the green curry, tom Kha soup and a side of steamed jasmine rice. $45 before tax and tip. Reasonable especially when there are leftovers. The food is decent here, but to-go portions used to be better and service could be improved. Ordered our usual chicken skewers, pad see ew with beef and pad thai with pork. To-go portions are served in smaller black rectangular containers, which is much different than when they used to have the wider square white containers. I'm not sure if ownership changed hands because their menu had also changed and the previous specials aren't offered anymore. They have different specials now and they're not as good as before. As a small business, you would appreciate your customers whether they dine-in or order to-go. The lady I received the food from during pick up barely smiled and didn't express any sign of appreciation for choosing to order from their establishment. Especially in today's tipping culture where it's mainly based on service received, a smile and simple "thank you" goes a long way. There is never a line to wait and sit down here (at least I haven't seen one) so that might give you an idea of the restaurant's dine-in popularity. Tom yum soup and Pad Thai is probably my only top favorites of the ones I ordered. Papaya salad was a bit too salty for some reason and the fried rice was a bit bland.. not too much flavors. Green curry was also just okay for me. Overall the flavors were a bit mediocre for me but the price point is nice in this economy nowadays. Four years have passed since my last review, time for an update! And Shine Thai is still the wonderful restaurant I said it was in my two earlier reviews below (read them if you want really specific opinions on several dishes!) -- and, take note, my fellow Pacificans, if you're like me and not too keen on a certain Thai restaurant in our town, this is a wonderful alternative and is a quick ride over the hill. Since my last two reviews where I was pining for Shine to add satay to their appetizer choices -- they've indeed since added it to the menu! And, I'm happy to report, it's one of the best I've ever had. They have the usual chicken, and very well prepared, but they also have beef AND, something different than most Thai places, you can get combo chicken & beef, which is what I usually get. The chicken and beef are both top quality, and in particular with the beef, not fatty at all. The peanut sauce is excellent, one of the best I've had AND they give you a whopping EIGHT skewers! Most places only give you four, maybe five. Folks, this is truly a great presentation of everyone's beloved satay and, not to mention, an excellent value. (Apologies, forgot to take photo, but I will next time!) Also, as you'll see in my reviews below, I particularly love the yellow & red curries and any of their wide flat rice noodle dishes including pad see-yew, lard-nar (more popularly known as "rad na" in other Thai restaurants) and, especially, their kee mow, which is absolutely wonderful. But, unfortunately -- and I do hate to say anything negative because I love Shine Thai so much -- but there's one very popular item that I just don't care for: Pad Thai. Alas, I didn't like it a couple of years back and then tonight, trying it again just to make sure I wasn't having a false perception ... nope, the preparation hasn't changed. The noodles are not al dente as I'm used to at most places, they're overcooked, and they're also too wet, i.e., oversauced (see accompanying photo) -- but, the main problem is the sauce itself: there is something slightly tomato-y about it that I just don't care for. I've been to a couple of Thai restaurants where the Pad Thai actually tastes like ketchup! Don't get me wrong, that's not the case here at all -- but that usual wonderful sweet tamarind, almost caramel-like, flavor that I'm used to with Pad Thai, that's just not how they prepare it here as they've opted for to go more acidic than sweet. You may very well like it this way, however. With a criticism like that, why am I still giving it five stars? Because I still think, overall, this is one of the best Thai restaurants in the area. What I do like on their menu is the very best you'll find in the Upper Peninsula, so well prepared and so tasty, and the atmosphere is very nice, the service wonderful, and it's an excellent value -- especially, I should add, for their noodle dishes. So while I may go somewhere else for pad thai, Shine is still by far my #1 in the area. read more

Servers are friendly here but the portions are a tad small. Maybe everyone has smaller portions now? Had the pad thai cuz it's my standard to get to get a baseline. We ordered the mixed vegetable pad thai. I liked it, the noodles had a good chew and there was a good balance of veggies to noodle ration. Also ordered the pineapple fried rice which had a good mix of meat to go with the rice. It's a nice little casual spot and they don't kick you out so it's a good place to eat and hang. i liked the fried banana with coconut ice cream the best. I've dined here 20+ times and I really like this place. The food, service from staff and overall dining experience has been consistently the same - always GREAT. Went here with my family and had a wonderful time. The interior is very rustic but also warm, overall a very charming place to eat any time of the day. Each dish is very tasty on its own, but I recommend ordering family style al a carte. My favorite dish is their catfish curry some of the best I've ever tasted! Crispy and flavorful with a creamy Curry taste. And I always wash everything down with a Thai tea which never disappoints here. Still a hidden gem of a place for Thai food. Located in a small plaza near the Mercedes dealership on Gellert, with lots of parking. It was pretty busy for a Wednesday evening--on my past visits, the place has been relatively empty for dine-in. The service was fast & the staff was attentive. I recommended the chubby chicken and the Thai basil pork. For our small group, we also ordered the papaya salad, the heat was milder than I anticipated. It had great flavor, pieces of dried shrimp & plenty of peanuts--it was just a tad salty for me. The pineapple fried seemed to be lacking, there was enough chicken, I thought it was a little bland. My favorites are still the chubby chicken & the Thai basil pork. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed our meal and we ordered just enough; we managed to eat everything--no leftovers to take home. I placed an order on door dash and the store does not allow you to type in any requests so I called the store directly and requested hot sauce and vinegar when I placed the order (my favorite part of eating Thai food). Pretty good Thai restaurant that is very easy to miss and get lost. It is situated alongside the big Benz dealership. You must go down a small,curvy road from the street to access it. Recently moved to South City and had to try out the local nearby spots! Starting with Shine Thai, it was a bit confusing to locate at first... but just keep driving into the parking lot and follow the signs to find the restaurant that's tucked away in it's own little cozy corner. Staff are very attentive when you come through the doors, unless it's busy then it takes a moment. The have a few vegan options, which was perfect for my sister! My wife and I ordered our usual pad see ew and we wanted to try their stuffed chicken wings. The dipping sauce for the chicken wings was addictive! It was very crispy on the outside breading, and the inside was a combination of pork, chicken and glass noodle. Very nice mouth-feel, and flavorful. The pad see ew noodles were bouncy, but unfortunately they don't use Chinese broccoli like most recipes call for. The beef was also a bit dry, despite being somewhat tender. read more

Very pleased with the crunch on the kitchen and the sauce on the flat noodles. I would come back just for those dishes. Unfortunately the Pad Thai & green curry may have been some of the worst Thai dishes I've ever had. I love both of those meals but here the pad Thai tasted like kitchen almost and the green curry was so watery it didn't have that nice creamy consistency I am looking for. The ambiance is standard. Reading the reviews, I was really optimistic and happy to find a new place near out home. We ordered it at 5:41pm for it to be delivered between 7 and 7:10 on a Sunday night. It arrived at 6:52. Had it arrived for when we actually wanted it, it would've been colder than it was. They must've cooked it early and had it sitting there. Opening the first box of food, I was quite disappointed immediately. The Pad See Ewe with Chicken looked like hacked up pieces of flat rice noodle. It was all chopped up instead of being ribbons of noodles. Then putting it into our mouths felt like slightly warm mush. The Chubby Chicken (Deep fried whole baby hen stuffed with combination of chicken, pork and glass noodles) was pretty good but luke warm in temperature. The Tom Kha with Shrimp was tasty. We weren't impressed with their Panang Beef. Overall, the meal wasn't good enough for us to return which is such a shame because we love Thai and have been on a quest to find a place to eat at close by.
