We stayed here on 3 different occasions. The managers were very helpful and accommodating to our handicapped situation. We stated in a refurbished room so it was great. The rooms were nice, clean, smelled clean. Helpful with asking for additional pillows and towels. The managers were very nice and sympathetic to our situations. We live out of town and this was the best motel in the Ventura are. I'm a very picky person when it comes to renting motel's and this was good for us. The staff was very friendly and accommodate us and answer our questions. Our room was very clean from the bathroom area to the sleeping area the bed was very comfortable. I have until tonight staying in this motel for the last 7 months every weekend, i have been noticing few details I mean thee is not perfect place, the pool always full of leaves, the jacuzzi doesn't work for i don't know years, the rooms they are old but clean need new carpet, hot water takes for ever to come out nothing mayor until tonight I rent the room for me & my kids they never stay & today my nephew come to visit me but I have an emergency so I step out leaving him & hes girlfriend an hour later come back & find them on the parking lot because this manager kick them out the room, he's accusing me of renting the room on the side to make money! Room was clean. Accommodations were misadvertised. Appears poorly run. The good thing was this was a fairly inexpensive room at $90 for a holiday night. The checkin counter employee must not have been employed for long because he did not know much about the hotel accommodations. We asked when the continental breakfast was that was advertised on the website and he did know and said to ask in the morning. We checked in the morning and the woman at the counter said they haven't offered that since COVID and the owner just hadn't gotten around to updating the website. What we saved on hotel costs we spent on an unplanned Denny's breakfast which also cost us extra time in the morning. There was a pool and hot tub also advertised on the website but the hot tub was the same temperature as the (unheated) pool and both were full of leaves and other debris. The reasoning given was that a local wildfire had blown the mess into the pool area. The room was clean and the bed was not awful, squeaky springs but not uncomfortable. The shampoo/conditioner was in little packets similar to but just a bit bigger than ketchup packets. There were three for two people staying one night. There was also one medium-sized "soap" bar and one and one small "face/body" soap bar. There was only one hand towel, which was stained, one face cloth, one bath mat towel, and two very small body towel. There was no coffee machine in the room or in the lobby. There was a snack vending machine and a soda vending machine. The mini fridge was very noisy and wobbled. The microwave which was on top of the fridge was also wobbly and did not work very well. I had to run it for 6 minutes before a mug of water was hot enough for tea. Ask for an odd numbered room. Those are the rooms that have been renovated. read more

We bought a room for him on line good price, but when he went to check in. they wanted to charge him 150 dollars deposite for a room we all ready paid for. now am in Mexico visiting family and they want me To go in person to pay. will not take payment over the phone. the worst service I have waver had. We decided to stay here because all other nearby hotels were booked. This place is a complete dump. This place looks decent on the outside but when I walked into the building to get to my room I couldn't believe how gross, smelly and rundown this place was inside. We paid 124.00 for a night and honestly i wouldn't pay 50.00 a night for this place. Carpets are old, dirty and torn. The furniture is old and scratched. There were water stains on the ceiling and torn wall paper. Oh and did I mention the cacaroaches! I should have listened to the reviews, and found a hotel in the next city. First of all, the people posting about the stink, threadbare carpets, stains everywhere...totally correct. But I believe I have the answer to why that is! They are operating a farm labor camp from this hotel! They simply don't care if you or I stay there or not! They provide the labor with meals, lodging, whatever...and if you don't like it, move on down the road! Staff is antagonistic and rude, but again...what do they care? Excellent customer service, too bad I can't recommend the hotel though. Upon entering the room we noticed the bed was slanted and discovered the frame was broken. The manager was apologetic and moved us to another room with no questions asked. Well, this is definitely a roach motel. I usually don't write too many reviews but I feel this time fellow travelers should know, not that it hasn't been expressed before in this forum but just so everyone knows it hasn't changed. I'm only giving it 2 stars because I think they could do better if they tried. Maybe they just need a good maintenance/cleaning crew. We decided to stay overnight in Santa Paula and this was the only thing available in the area, obviously for a reason. At first they gave us a room that smelled funky; however, after I asked for a different room, it was a little better. The new room didn't smell as bad but there were definitely bed bugs or something that bit is both me and my girlfriend. Hopefully one one they can clean it up, until then you might want to stay away from this place unfortunately. read more

What a nightmare! I booked 2 nights through Expedia with the TRAVELERS name and I was told that I was going to be charged another $200 for the rooms. Not even taking the fact that I already paid Expedia. I spoke with Expedia right away and we are currently taking action and giving a report on this place. My bank also is getting involve. What a mess this has become. I'm sure the management will say something else to make themselves better about the whole situation. They were so rude and nasty. I've been to many hotels and this is by far the worst stay I've ever had. They make a big deal out of everything , rooms smell like old people , the roof had stains. And don't even THINK of having more than 2 people in a room because they will make a big deal. Receptionist are all very rude. Would not recommend this place. My family and I had to book this hotel because the other hotels in this area were all booked. I did not look at the reviews before booking it and I wish I did. Customer service was alright. They don't give the WiFi password unless you ask for it. We got a two bed room, upon arrival it looked clean, the restroom had two rolls of toilet paper but they weren't new, one was almost gone. I was doing my makeup in one of the tables, I looked up and there was a HUGE cockroach walking on the table. I immediately removed all my things from the table and placed them on the bed. Super friendly service and good price for the stay. If you are looking for a weekend getaway in Ventura area, this is the place to stay. We went for Citrus Classic Balloon Festival and found Ocean Gateway Inn on their website, also checked their Yelp review before booking. King size room is about $130 for Sat night; not sure if it is the standard rate or the Festival rate? The room is clean, with microwave, small fridge, small table with 2 chairs, a sofa to watch TV. Not a fancy room but a warming clean room for a INN standard. Bathroom is kind of small though. The front desk staff was very patient and nice on giving us dining tips, tourist info and driving instruction. Our next favorite thing would be the Fluffy pillows in the closet, there were so comfy and fluffy that we wish they are selling it! Will stay at this location again for the next festival :) PS. I was parked to the side half way on the vacant lot, half way on Ocean Gateway Inn for only about 15 min before some douche comes up to me asking me if I needed help, I tell him no, he asks if I'm staying there, I tell him no, he tells me it's private property, I ask him if he would like me to leave, he says yes. Now mind you I'm on my lunch break, I'm not occupying a park spot, I'm off to the side and because I'm on the clock for work I was very respectful, had I not been on the clock, I would have stayed in place. Stay away from this nasty cheap looking motel, it looks bug infested from other pictures and reviews on here and the people running this place are rude and incompetent, there were many open spots for people to park, the people running this place are just idiots. Be careful here. They look for any reason to keep your room deposit. I checked out and my room was spotless except for used towels. They denied my $100 deposit because of a stained 50 cent washcloth. They claimed it was hair dye. I had to prove it was nothing more than Cheeto dust from a small bag of Cheetos I had the day before. I'm 70 years old and my hair is not that orange. I was traveling through California and booked a room here. The service was terrible. The lady in the lobby at the front counter was rude. The place smells and nothing functions properly. Is an older motel, but looking at thread bare carpet, black grout ( where no traffic areas are beige) by the tub. No bare feet anywhere but home but is shoes everywhere here. This place is disgusting! The smell hits you right as you walk in the building. The only reason I stayed was because it was late and I was desperate. The hotel I had booked originally fell through and I was too far away to drive home. I just wanted to sleep. I couldn't force myself to lay in the bed so I covered it with my towel and laid on that. I don't even think this place deserves a star. Considering I needed a place to stay for a few nights the owner is very unwelcoming and inconsiderate. Not only did I complain about the microwave shorting out...but the phone didn't work and on all the doors it says no smoking but it smells like smoke and he tried to blame it on me. On my last day he was suppose to have me down for 2 days and he only charged for one and then said I had to leave the room because it was reserved already. Never again will I ever think of coming here. They need a new owner. He should sell it and go back to India. No customer service whatsoever. Obviously if you want guests to come back you are kind to those already staying there...but anybody I know I will tell them to never go there. It's also time for an upgrade especially for the price they charge. Motel 6 is way better and cheaper. read more

For what I paid I got more than I expected. Clean Spacious room, TV with Cable, Microwave, Fridge, Clean Restroom, & a comfortable bed. Hotel might be a little outdated but they definitely do a good job on making sure everything's well organized and cleaned. Free complimentary breakfast and coffee! Staff was very nice and friendly! Very quiet hotel and peaceful for the most part. Its Walking distance from retail stores and restaurants. I stay here regularly when working near Ventura CA. Already stepping in, my tv nor AC works and THE ROOM SMELLS ! TERRIBLE ! so we requested another room and they where very quick and understanding about it which i am so thankful for! We wanted to stay at the glen tavern inn, but something came up and we ended up staying here. The people at the seat were kinda rude in there tone of voice. The rooms where to start. Well first we got into the room and were told the a/c was turned on, so we expected a cooler room because it was hot and muggy, we got into the room and no a/c the room was hotter then it was outside. Then we sat on one of the what seemed like beds from the 70's and the corner seemed like it was going to fall off, oh and the bed sleeping on it is one of the worse that I have ever slept on in almost ever. Third the bathroom, it's grungy paint is peeling the tub looks like it was pulled from a junk yard, and the shower head is the dirtiest shower head I have ever seen. This hotel is BAD. I never thought walking into the lobby that the room would be so run down. I did not expect fancy, I just needed a place to sleep. But for $94 a night, I definitely didn't think that I would experience: the drywall peeling off the walls, the water stains on the ceiling, the bed springs to be poking at you from every angle, & very mildewy showerhead. I should have walked out as another guest checked out after 10 minutes of being there..and he was charged the one full night still. Went to Santa Paula to visit family members and needed a place to stay and Ocean Gateway was the only place available, so we had no other choice than to stay here. The place looked very sketchy from the beginning. The room smelled bad and everything was outdated. We booked two rooms one for me and the other one for my in laws. The next morning we went out to have breakfast at the next door Mexican restaurant and when we came back my in laws noticed that some of their belongings were missing. When we asked the lady at the front desk if someone had came into the room she said that she did not know. Then we asked the maid and she said that the lady at the front desk was the one that came in. When we confronted her she said that she came in because she thought we were gone, mind you it wasn't even time to check out, but she stated that once she noticed our belongings were still there she left. Ofcourse we demanded to get our things back, the manager came back to talk to us and he let us know that there was nothing they can do because we didn't have proof that the front desk lady took our belongings. We called the police and made a report but our things were never returned. So if you are thinking of staying at this place please save your money and go somewhere else because this place is trash! read more

I stayed here about three months ago due to an emergency. I didn't expect much from it being in a small town like Santa Paula.
