Loved the view of the park from our room. Quiet and it even had a fireplace, not that we needed it during the summer. The breakfast is not memorable but merely adequate. My only objection was that they fly the American flag at night without a light shining on it. read more

Made reservations online so wasn't sure what to expect. Drove up and thought it could certainly improve on the appearance. I walked in and was greeted by warm staff and although the furniture is older everything is very nice. The staff was very helpful and professional. My room was wonderful, it was clean and just perfect, with a nice patio overlooking the park, although there's some homelessness there, that's not the hotels doing. There's a jacuzzi that's nice and hot which we also enjoyed to unwind a little. We enjoyed our room so much (it had a fireplace) that we wanted to stay another night but it unfortunately was not available and we opted for another room which was very roomy with lots of windows. Again, I was grateful to the staff who was very helpful and professional in getting up situated and comfortable in our new room. We have enjoyed our stay immensely. The hotel is in a great location in Ventura, just off Main Street and just far enough off the freeway and close enough to the beach to walk too. Place is no where near worth the money they charge. At most this is an $89.00 motel. Room was extremely small and outdated. Outside of flooring the room had not been updated since the 80's, bathroom is dated same as the room and horrible. Old tub, stained with old faucets and open drain. Floor was dirty, tv so cheap and didn't work. I stayed here on the recommendation of one of our employees and I wish I hadn't. read more

After staying here for the weekend, I would not recommend it at all. The hotel is very outdated and the rooms were so small they couldn't even have a nightstand on both sides of the bed. The water pressure in the shower was terrible and the tub had old orange tinted plastic slip protection that was in need of a replacement. The one good thing about the hotel is that it's close to downtown, but thats about it. The parking situation is also terrible and their lot has no space. Absolutely not worth the price. read more

Cute boutique hotel located in downtown Ventura. Location is good and bad. Near the downtown strip of fun places to visit but plenty of mentally ill people in downtown too. The hotel has free parking which is hard to find in this area. Place is over 100 years old and a protected Hacienda building landmark. It was an old firehouse. Seems to be around 50 rooms in a two story building. There are downsides because it does feel/smell very old. Walls are thin and rooms are extremely small. I had a king size bed, fireplace and private patio that over looks clock tower which was nice. The continental breakfast is free on weekdays 7-10a which is always nice to have. Downtown areas are very walkable. Price will be the most affordable in the area ($159 this time). Front desk Nicole was very helpful so I appreciate her customer service. read more

Really enjoyed our stay here! I would give it five stars except for the shower and the bathroom. The shower, the water pressure wasn't the greatest and it would get hot and then it would get cold. When I was brushing my hair with the bathroom door open, I kept hitting my arm on the door, but other than that, it was great. We enjoyed our private patio & the breakfast was Great, especially the coffee!! The surrounding are beautiful.. It was a nice walk to Main Street and to really anywhere in Ventura on this side of town. The clubs, the beaches, the restaurants were all enjoyable. The fireplace was lovely in our room. However, the dresser was a little floppy, when you pulled out the drawers, they'd fall forward, so beware and careful. The staff were so accommodating and very pleasant. Came up for two nights - a Monday and Tuesday to avoid crowds. Located on the western edge of downtown Ventura the Clocktower Inn was converted from a fire station in the early 1960s. It has a hacienda feel to it with an open air courtyard where folks can work at during the day (tables and chairs, not sofas) as well as eat the morning continental breakfast. We requested and received a room on the 2nd floor to have additional natural light. We also had a balcony which oversees the jacuzzi area. The rooms on the other side of the hallway, which face the park do not have balconies but perhaps a more scenic view. Since we had two bikes the balcony was super convenient. We stayed in room 217 and it was very clean and comfortable. Yes, the place could use some updating like a larger TV, steaming services, and more outlets. But it did have a mini fridge and a coffee maker which so many places do not have anymore. But the hot water was hot! Bathroom amenities (soap, etc) were pretty limited. The continental breakfast was 'enough'. I was happy to see fresh fruit (apples and bananas), a great waffle iron, Chobani yogurt and cereal. It was perfect for us. Parking was available in the public lot (you'll need to get a windshield tag at the desk, but it could be problematic on busy weekends. Front desk service was good and everything looked clean. The price point for this place is very good. Call and make reservations directly. The adjoining Blue Agave restaurant (not the same owners) has a great happy hour (3-7) which we partook. We had some good margaritas and awesome guacamole and fajitas. Good service as well! read more

Pros: -location 10/10 very walkable to downtown area, beach, bars/restaurants, and food -free parking -free breakfast (we didn't eat here but free is free), we checked it out and there was cereal, waffles, coffee, juice, bananas, yogurt, apples -windows open Cons: -lots of homeless people in the park behind hotel. Not a problem for us and they were all very kind but I can see how it can be a con for others -very outdated and old, odd smell -someone called our phone at 11:45p and no one was on the other end. Overall, it's a nice hotel for an older one. The grounds are well kept, the food was good for breakfast on the weekend, the staff was very nice and accommodating, it was quiet and clean. It did have that "old building" smell, but that happens with historic buildings. The chairs in the breakfast atrium are wearing through the vinyl seats. I was wearing shorts and got poked by little tiny wires. We went through three chairs before finding two that were not worn out yet. The gentleman servicing the area was kind enough to remove the chairs from the floor. I suggested buying some nice chair pads. (You can get them cheap at Home Depot or Lowe's or even Walmart.) That would be a quick and inexpensive fix. I also want to say that we loved our room, room 110, which I understand is supposed to be one of the best rooms in their hotel. Why then do they have such crappy curtains on all the windows? It really ruined the ambience! I suggest they Invest in some nice, room darkening window treatments and we might consider requesting that room again. The curtains there now were pinned together and we could not open most of them. Yes, I know there was nothing but a wooden fence on the other side and not much else to look at through the windows facing the park, but it would have been nice to have natural sunlight in the room, nonetheless. The good... Very inviting as you enter. The lobby is warm with a nice fireplace and seating area. Cute courtyard for breakfast. The front desk staff, Nichole, on check-in day, was very friendly. Room style is cute and we loved the fireplace. The bad... The bed was awful, one of the most uncomfortable mattresses I have ever slept on and the topper did not help. It was sooo hard! I didn't sleep at all the two nights we were there. Additionally, the room wasn't all that clean, particularly the bathroom. The tub/shower area had a lot of mold and as I took a bath I noticed the toilet bowl was pretty unclean as well.... The front desk staff the second day, a younger girl )I didn't get her name), was not so friendly. I also didn't like that no complimentary water bottles were offered, they had vending machines... not very inviting for a boutique style hotel. Overall, I'd say it was a decent experience. However, I did expect a little more for the price. Side note... the Mexican food restaurant attached to the hotel was delicious!!! I highly recommend. read more

The location is great and that's where it stops. 1. The free breakfast is probably a 2 - 4 on the 10 scale due to measly selections, no cereal save for packets of oatmeal, horrible coffee in paper cups and lastly easy-to-break plastic utensils. 2. The room was ok. The bed had a foam topper on top of the mattress with a poorly fitting bottom sheet that got wadded up each time you turned over or got up. The bathroom came with one washcloth, towel and hand towel for TWO people with an advanced reservation. There was also one, tiny silver dollar sized piece of soap for the entire bathroom! Boo There was NO wastebasket in the main room, but yet a mall one inside the poorly appointed bathroom. The faucets were also very dated. 3. Would we stay here again? Honest review. Nice character, great location, but lots of wear and tear on this hotel. We stayed in room 206. It was small and you could hear through the walls. The shower didn't work right. But otherwise the room was clean and had decent Wi-Fi. I wish the hotel had a place to fill up my water bottle other than the sink in my room. They have some fancy strawberry/mint water station in the lobby, but it's not enough. Continental breakfast is bare bones, but they serve good coffee starting really early in the morning, which was great. read more

But here's a plus...you can actually open the window which is nice (I stayed on the second floor overlooking the park and water fountain which is a perfect location. We visit Clocktower inn every few years and it's always a great experience. The location is secluded, but has direct walking access to Ventura's charming Main Street promenade. the restaurant in the hotel has great food. The team at both the hotel and the restaurant are lovely, friendly and offer a very homey and welcoming experience. It's very close to the Amtrak station (less than 2 blocks away) so we love to come up for weekend trips from LA by train. It's a great weekend getaway! read more

Clocktower Inn is in a prime location to all the fun things to do in Ventura and it is affordable. The staff are remarkable, From the guy that checked us in, to Krysten who checked us out, we were greeted and sent off with a smile. During our stay my husband carelessly sat on the bed with his wet bathing suit, smh. We asked if someone can come and change the bedding. Jessica came fast, changed the bedsheets, even switched out our towels for fresh ones, she did it all with a great attitude and a friendly smile. Some cons: The hotel is a bit outdated, loose electrical outlets, paint is peeling off walls and the shower head is low, my husband is 6ft and the shower head is only up to his chest (good water pressure though) this is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. A delicious complimentary breakfast is served every morning. To name a few, they have waffles, sausage, eggs, and country potatoes. There's a beautiful sunroom where they serve breakfast. Parking is free but shared with the public, and it's always full, but you can also park on the street. We'll definitely stay here again if we come to Ventura. read more

Damn, why people so mean to Clocktower Inn?? My boyfriend and I went for a few nights in January for a little birthday getaway from LA - and we had an absolute blast !! Our room was cozy, the hot tub was awesome, and the building is so cool. We loved having complimentary delish hot waffles in the morning in the gorgeous greenhouse area. Also - it's literally connected to an AWESOME tequila bar !! That was seriously the highlight of the trip, and it happened totally by chance. There was an incredible Mariachi band playing at the bar next door - they were absolutely amazing and there was no cover (we tipped generously tho - they deserve it)!! So many great things about this place so again, not sure why there are so many haters here on Yelp. It's a historic inn. That comes with certain understandings. If you need a bougie brand-new hotel to be happy, go elsewhere. If you want a historic quirky stay with a friendly staff, lots of character, great price, and an awesome location that's walkable to the beach and to downtown Ventura (we walked down to Ven-tiki, one of our favorite tiki bars... I am way over do to give this review but life gets busy! The location is perfect, close to the beach, food and a grocery store. I went with my 3 daughter which was only suppose to be 2 but the oldest decided she wanted to come last minute and the staff was so extremely accommodating and the friendliest I've experienced in a long time. The breakfast is mid but how can you complain about free, I'm just being honest. I loved the room, the vibe, the atmosphere and architecture was so beautiful. We had the best corner room with lots of windows that opened up to enjoy the wonderful crisp ocean air! I couldn't have been happier with this hidden gem! This place is definitely a most try!! They also offer free games to play with your family for free and a fridge to stock up for hungry thirty kiddos! Definitely 5 stars in my book read more

I don't usually leave reviews, positive or negative, but in this case I feel I must. Stayed there this past Thursday. The hotel is quant with a Spanish hacienda vibe, cool rustic furnishings and easy access to downtown. Some chipped tiles, cracked cement, worn furniture not really a big deal-it's a budget hotel. However the toilet in our room barely flushed when we arrived, then it clogged. I went to the front office to get this resolved and incredibly was told by the desk clerk they could provide me with a plunger so I could try and fix it myself! Unbelievable. We immediately checked out. We won't be coming back. read more

You will not be able to concentrate or sleep while the bar is open. The Inn staff will not do anything to stop them from disturbing the peace, especially your peace. Overall we were really happy with our experience here that we look forward to stay again next month! We got a king room with balcony and it was clean, spacious and a great price. We enjoyed the hot tub and complimentary breakfast. We thought there were great choices. 2 of the 3 workers we encountered were pleasant & helpful but the younger girl when we checked out the next morning was very very rude and just so unwelcoming. The customer service is severely lacking. The hotel charged my credit card $250, one night's rate, for a "no show" for forgetting to cancel my reservation this April from a reservation made in October 2024. My wife and I were planning to stay here for the Mountains to Beach marathon in April but I was unable to make it to Ventura, CA, to run due to an injury that required a costly surgery. Thus unable to check in at the hotel. This was all explained to the hotel manager who refused to refund the charge. I get the hotel has a cancellation policy, but believe there should be some understanding given the challenging circumstances from the surgery. Also the reservation was made the hotel never sent a reminder email about the reservation coming up. I believe that would have been helpful and would have cancelled ahead of time. read more

We last stayed here 16 years ago and had a nice memory of our stay with no complaints. This time, a different experience. First, we arrived at about 3:30 pm to check in. We were told that our room wasn't ready. We waited about 45 minutes until it was ready. We noted that there were three couples that checked in and were assigned rooms. Once we entered the room, we noticed a musty odor. Must be because the room hasn't been cleaned very well. (benefit of the doubt). The bathroom: 1. The bathtub had shown major peeling from the coating material. 2. Rust around the bathtub drain. 3. Mold around bathtub walls 4. Sink was not cleaned. Hair around the faucet handle. No drain plug. The bathroom in general was disgusting. The sleeping area: 1. Light switches were motion timers that had switch buttons that didn't work most of the time. 2. Only one lamp next to the bed. In conclusion, we will never stay here again. They need to do a complete remodel. Although, their location is prime, the condition of the rooms doesn't make up for it. It's a very expensive place to stay, which doesn't justify the cost. read more

The only reason this place doesn't get a 1 star is due to the location. The rooms and hotel are a bit rundown and old. There is not much parking in the actual hotel parking lot and often times we had to park down on the street. Our shower kept dripping and the iron was old and busted. If you want a good location to walk around and not stay in the room much, this is a good affordable option. However I would pick a better hotel next time. read more

Stayed at the Clocktower Inn during a short getaway to Ventura. The employees were friendly and helpful. The location is awesome. It's right next to Downtown Ventura, it's a 30 second walk to the main street where you'll find shops and restaurants. We walked through downtown a couple of times, it's also within walking distance to the beach. The Clocktower Inn is pretty old, I read somewhere that the clock tower used to be a fire lookout tower in the 20s or 30s. Our room was clean and comfortable and had a gas fireplace and a balcony. There were only a couple of issues, one was that the door leading to the balcony did not close very well and outside temps did get chilly at night, I had to use some newspaper as a weather stripping where the door met the frame, there was actually quite a gap. The other was the fact that there were 2 beer bottle caps on the balcony floor that were obviously from previous guests, they were not hard to see if housekeeping would have looked out there they would have been easily seen. I DO like that they are NOT pet friendly, since we do have allergies. I would consider staying at the Clock Tower Inn again in the future, but I'd probably request a different room due to the door issue. I think that I'm being a little generous with my rating, if 3.5 were an option, that is what I would have rated them due to the door issue and the bottle caps on the balcony. read more

Clocktower Inn in Ventura was quite unpleasant and highly disappointing. Here is what we have experienced: 1. The breakfast, lobby and reception areas are very cold, around 54 degrees Fahrenheit. During breakfast we had to wear coats just not to freeze. 2. Breakfast offers coffee in three containers; the coffee was the same coffee---no dark roast, no medium roast, no caffeine-free roast. 3. There is cereal that is offered, but the bowl provided was tiny. There was no way anyone could have Raisin Bran for breakfast. 4. On the last day of our stay, we had breakfast. The milk offered in a large container was sour. 5. Every day we had to ask the cleaning staff to make up our room. Many times the staff gave us one wash cloth instead of two. They only gave us one hand towel instead of two. Every time I had to go to the Reception Area and ask for one more. 6. Every time the cleaning staff did make up our room, they turned off the heater. While we were gone the room got cold, and, therefore, we returned to a very cold room. (Our room had windows in two directions, and the windows are not insulated with old air and wind blowing outside.) 7. One morning the cold water faucet stopped working. It took the staff a couple of hours to fix it. 8. The bathroom is very small and has the trappings of a bathroom at a Motel 6. 9. The TV in the room is a joke. The remote didn't belong to the TV and didn't control for different settings. We were highly disappointed with the service at the Clocktower Inn. It is a three-star hotel, but it charged us over $1400 for eight nights. The price is not comparable to a similarly priced accommodation nearby. Yet, still it flaunts the significance of a four-star hotel. We found that the room and ancillary accommodations were that of a Motel 6 with the exterior of a classy inn. We certainly did not find the "So Cal Comfort" that is displayed on the website of Clocktower Inn. Indeed this was a basic Motel 6 room with a bit of garnish. read more

We were looking forward to staying here for a weekend get away while attending a concert. Unfortunately, it was a pretty disappointing place to stay. The greatest thing about it is the location to downtown Ventura and the beach. Even with the perfect location that alone couldn't make up for most of the issues. Walked down a dimly lite hallway to our room which at first look wasn't so bad until you really start looking around. The lamp shades were dusty, the paint was pealing off the walls, the bed didn't really have much of a comforter, and the mystery matter on the wall (see picture) was a little too much for me. Just a little heads up to future guest the only parking is a shared public parking lot or street parking that they will give you a permit for and the electrical outlets in the room if you need to plug anything just be careful as anything we plugged in never stayed plugged which could end up being a hazard. Well I don't want to pile on as we made the best of our stay and just enjoyed the area, but definitely won't be coming back anytime soon. I think if they spruced up the place a little bit and updated the rooms it would make a huge difference. read more

This is such a beautiful place to stay. It has an open concept European feel to it and I really enjoy the kindness and patience of the staff. Honestly, Erica, Amy, Luisa, and Jessica all helped me throughout numerous occasions when I needed a room during a conference. Each person helped me with different accommodations and were always going above and beyond to make things go smoothly for my stay. I stayed there for several nights in May. Unfortunately, I got chewed up by BEDBUGS. It happened the day and night before I checked out. I was in a hurry in the morning but stopped at the front desk and showed the woman at the counter my bites. I asked her if she would even make a note in the computer. Well, twice since I've written the Inn requesting a refund. They didn't say no, they did worse. They didn't respond to my emails. I know that they want Star is bad for business, especially about bed bugs. As a businessman, I feel bad doing this.
