If you are a local and somewhat of a regular she will remember what drinks you like and more often than not what your favorite meal is. I've eaten here many times over the last 20 years and must say I love it! Well, I love the food. That's about all I can really say. The service is okay. The biggest problem is that it's always so dark in here. The decor needs a little bit of upgrading too. Typical 70's stuff now that looks like it was bought from Giant T or Jafco or Wig-Wam. Still, if you can SEE in here, you WILL love their food without a doubt. I never ate anything on their menu in 20 years I didn't like! BUT, they tend to put water chestnuts in just about everything they make, to the point of getting old. This is fine if you like them. I tolerate them. Only 4 stars? What a nice surprise. Driving through Aberdeen is a little strange. Lots of traffic and what appears to be a lot of closed businesses in the downtown area. I was looking for some lunch before visiting a client and drove by what appeared to be a closed Chinese restaurant and just as I went past I realized they were open. I really wasn't expecting much but went in anyway. Very nice inside lots of traditional Chinese furniture and art. Great lunch special, I had the broccoli beef it came with rice and a small portion of sweet and sour chicken. The waitress asked if I wanted it spicy and of course I said yes. Very good food (a little too much sauce) obviously fresh veggies. Obviously not sitting in a vat waiting for people to come in and order. We always stop here on our way home from the ocean, and we're never disappointed. Ocean Palace sizzling platter of seafood and a myriad of fresh veggies in a light silky gravy is my favorite dish. Unique setting as the building used to hold a bank and contains many lovely Chinese antiques and art. I've ordered "Mongolian Beef", barely any meats in it, just bunch of onions and vegetables and the flavor were off. " Teriyaki chicken" it's not what it sound like! They use Plum sauce as their Teriyaki sauce and taste horrible! "General Sao" again, taste like the meat have had been sitting out for a few days before it was cooked. While it is a little bit of a greasy option, they have good portions and fresh veggies with lots of menu options. We typically order to-go as the single combo dinner orders are perfectly suited to 2 people. However, if you eat in the restaurant you might get told ya not enough. The owner was very nice and energetic. I will say for $78 for food and a $20 tip ... it was a let down . The fried rice was super salty and just tasted like vinegar. By far the worst Chinese food I have ever had. The almond chicken gravy looked like cheese sauce. The fried rice was nothing more than rice with soy sauce on it. The BBQ pork was dry with a yellow ring around it. My brother spilled a little water on the table and wiped it up with a clean napkin that was so dirty after we cleaned it up. My girlfriend works here now, and I was skeptical of it at first because years ago I had it, and it wasn't very good. I did also first try it when there was a week long power outage so I'm sure it wasn't up to par. Now that I have it every night she works, I love it! I regularly have the general tso's chicken and the chicken teriyaki and those are both delicious! I personally don't like the fried rice, since it's just steamed rice with food coloring unless you get the house fried rice. I'd also advise you to stay away from the deep fried prawns because they don't cut the guts and poop out. The building itself is absolutely amazing and the bathrooms are very nice with marble tiling. This restaurant is large, has some nice decor/artwork, and provides absolutely wonderful service. They're also willing to alter dishes based on your preferences. Overall, the food is slightly above-average, American Chinese cooking. Sub gum, egg rolls, tempura prawns, egg drop soup, curries, chicken, beef, tea service, you name it. They're all predictably executed in generous portions. They're also - largely - delicious. It's not haute cuisine, but it's the best place in town for Chinese. Others have complained about ambiance. The restaurant is located in a former department store. The main dining area is located in the open floor of a two-story building and features an unused balcony surrounding the entire area. The decor is impeccable with remarkable pieces of art (some for sale), but the room does feel a bit cold and "open." A predictable restaurant serving quality food and a local favorite. Today we had 30$ worth of food from this resturaunt show up. It included one order of beef and brocolli, one order of szechuan shrimp & a crab cheese wonton appitizer. The beef and brocolli was watery and flavorless, the szechuan shrimp though at first glance looked good contained only 4 pieces of moderatly sized shirmp and an abundancy of over watered vegetables. The crab cheese wontons could of easily been left over from the night before considering how stale they were. All in all our dining experience was terrible and we will never be eating here again. read more

Not bad but nothing to get excited about either. My wife's Hung Pao shrimp dish had more celery then anything else. My house fried rice had 2 pieces of shrimp and was rather bland. And what's with the $2 charge for a refill on my soda? I don't think I've seen that at a Chinese restaurant before. Service was friendly, but slow, even though there were only two other tables occupied. I had to wait quite a while for the server to even reappear so I could ask for that soda refill. read more

The decor on this place is pretty neat I love all the wood carvings. We went about 2:00 on a Monday so we were one of two tables in the whole restaurant. We ended up standing at the front waiting to be seated for quiet awhile because no one was out and the kitchen/serving area was way in the back and no one was around. After getting seated we got served right away. The food was pretty good however the cost of the food was a bit pricey we had 2 dinner combos and 2 kids meals and 4 drinks and it was over 90 dollars. I was a little surprised at that. We're not from Aberdeen so I'm not sure what the price of food costs in this area and I would probably still go eat there again anyway. read more

We have been coming to Ocean Palace for over a decade now and the food is always awesome and the owner, Christina, is very friendly. The hot and sour soup is the best I have found anywhere, and I get it anywhere I can so that's saying a lot! My other favorites include the almond chicken, lemon chicken, and the crab Rangoon appetizers. The seating is very comfortable, the building is beautiful and large, and there's a huge banquet room for parties. We actually held our wedding's rehearsal dinner here. My wife and I have been going to Ocean Palace in Aberdeen for close to 27 years now. Jonathan and Christina To have done a wonderful job with the place. The food is fresh, not that mystery meat stuff you find in other Chinese places. The vegetables are crispy, tasty and fresh, the portions very large. The service is outstanding as Christina can remember your favorite dishes in her head. I have been to many Chinese restaurants in and outside of Washington State and have to say that my all time favorite is Ocean Palace. Try the Chicken Chow Mein in its various forms.. from the crispy noodle base to the pan fried noodles and subgum veggies... mmmm. Now I want to eat there again. :) Good stuff. We came in, and I asked for the thai iced tea. The lady told me "oh we don't have any right now we haven't made any for today so we would have to actually make it fresh for you so we aren't serving that yet" Ummm. I'm paying you. You should make whatever your customer asks for. Then, I ordered the curry chicken. The lady asked my boyfriend what rating of spicy he wanted, and then when I ordered, she said "Curry chicken is already spicy so leave it like normal?" and before I could say no I would like it spicier, she said "okay? okay" and walked off. Finally what led me to give a bad rating, is when I walked in I sat at a booth with the heater pointed toward it because I am not used to washington weather. Then people who seem to be her best friends, because they actually get a smile and a polite greeting when they walk in. So she goes over and says I'll point the heater toward you, and moves it from our table to pointing towards the table behind us. The service is biased and rude. Old school basic and traditional Chinese-American style food done quite well in a very nice setting. We also had very good service here. There are not a lot of choices for a decent meal in this area, the selection is limited and the Ocean Palace is a very dependable place to be well fed. You would have to go to Olympia to find comparable Asian food.They also sell much of the Asian art that decorates the place. An above average Chinese restaurant and a gem in this community. I don't have anything against the Twin cities, I've been going there for most of my life, there are just not too many choices for good food around here. read more
