The Canton Cafe (original name prior to being called the Canton Restaurant), is believed to be the oldest continuously operated Chinese restaurant in the state of Washington. Dating back to around 1926, and perhaps earlier, it is a great place to grab a Cantonese style meal if you're on or around the harbor. They open late in the day for dinner service only, but also stay open quite late compared to most restaurants around the harbor. Back in the day, they stayed open even later and because of that, they became the late night hangout for musicians looking for a place to "dry out" after a late night of drinking and performing. And YES, Kurt Cobain (and family) did eat here. The establishment was spotless on my visit and service was prompt and friendly. I had the Combination#3: Pork chow mein, fried rice & sweet & sour pork. The chow mein was different than most others I've tried but was very good. All in all it was an enjoyable meal in a wonderful little restaurant steeped in history. This is my first time visiting this restaurant. If I were to rate this on the wonton soup , BBQ pork and the service it would get 4.5 stars but I also Ordered Mongolian Beef which was tiny bits of beef in a gravy type with tons of onion, none of those crisp light noodles, no spice and sadly no flavor. This is why they get 3 stars. The wonton soup was perhaps the best I have ever tasted and their BBQ pork was sweet, different but very flavorful. We came here while on our way through Aberdeen and had to stop at the Tesla supercharger we had hungry kids with us. They started making some noise in our booth while we were trying to order food. The lady came to us and Linda shrugged us off saying that they don't have anything vegan and didn't listen to us. So we had to leave (or thrown out). Not recommended for people with kids. read more

Update June 2017 - I am so sad to report that the prices have gone up, the service is terrible and the food quality is hit and miss. :( If you're heading to the beach perchance, go to Viet Hoa. They have bangin Chinese food. This is a place my parents used to go to late night when I was a kid and they are still cranking out great food! The fried rice is served as it should be - with green onions and sliced bbq pork. I LOVE the egg rolls. They are huge and have a strong mix of veggies and baby shrimp inside, with a super crispy shell. The restaurant is definitely a "hole in the wall" so don't expect a fancy place - the bathroom still has the pull down continuous towel thing you don't see anywhere anymore and there is a real working jukebox by the cashier. read more

Really good Chinese food. So hard to find these days. This place has been in Aberdeen since 1910. Same family ownership. Amazing. They make Eve from scratch. We ordered a lot of food. Everything was really good. All the meat was really good quality, Not the weird scraps you sometimes get. I will be back. You should give them a try. read more

The service -- the waitresses are very Aberdeen-esque. Lol but very attentive and polite. The ambiance -- ghetto. Nothing matches, everything seems old and cheap. But you can't really expect much more from Aberdeen. The food -- I ordered what I always do at chinese restaraunts, general tsos chicken. I wasn't expecting it to be 5 star food. And it wasnt, but it wasn't bad at all. It was actually quite tasty. The chicken breading was very good and crispy. The sauce was sweet and spicy, but the rice was just cheap white rice, nothing fancy. I've gone here a few times because I'm from Montesano. But I don't LOVE this place. read more

Not likely to stop here again if I am ever in Aberdeen. Service - Not bad. Server was one of the friendliest that you will ever meet. Very slow at refilling drinks. Food took quite a while to get to the table. Mongolian Beef - Just so so. The meat was pretty good but the sauce was probably not authentic Cantonese. Kind of sweet and flavorless. Shrimp Curry - The shrimp was not bad but again the sauce is questionable. Way more mushrooms than anything else in the dish. Quantity was quite good for the price. The waitress, Lexi, was very nice. From there it went downhill. My wife ordered Combo E and I got Mongolian Beef. Bland, mushy, and disappointing. The Mongolian Beef was the best. A 2 out of 5 stars. The hot tea was Black tea . . . Not what you expect from a Chinese establishment. The Dinner E had strange "Hot Pocket" sized egg rolls, Mushy Chow Mein, and disgusting spare ribs buried in sauce. I can't believe the Canton only has 3 stars overall. Then I read the reviews and several were down on the place because it's not vegan. The don't advertise as vegan and most restaurants around here aren't vegan. I can't see downgrading a restaurant for something that they don't claim to be. Makes no sense to me. Service is always nice and friendly. The place has had the same decor for the 50+ years I've been eating here and I love it this way. I hope it never changes because it just adds to the historic value of this old restaurant, which will be 100 years old in 2020. It's not fancy but that's part of the charm. The food is great, portion sizes are generous, and the breading they use is divine. Get the egg rolls! Really, get them. They are huge and packed with good veggies, shrimp and more. I always grab an order of them extra so I can eat them the next day for lunch. Superb! There are other good Chinese restaurants around here but the Canton will always be my first choice and my favorite. read more

Canton has always been one of my favorite places in Grays Harbor for Shrimp Fried Rice! I've always enjoyed everything I've eaten here. They're always really friendly too. But yes, it's an old place. In fact, it's been there since 1920! In my opinion, no restaurant can last THAT long unless they have GREAT food and service to match. So yes, the decor might not be worth writing home about, and it may feel small inside, but I don't go there to look around, I go there to eat. And I've always left satisfied and smiling. read more

So good! For years I've been doing to the Chinese Village for nearly my whole life and it's nothing compared to Canton. Went in with my mom and was instantly waited on. We got hot tea and egg drop soup. About 20 minutes later we got our food. I got fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, chow mein, and egg foo yung. The amount of food it perfect, and is really tasty, and everything is steaming hot. the price for all of that was about $10, so really affordable. My family and I are hooked and look forward to it about once a month! It's now our go-to for Chinese food :) read more

We ordered the Beef and Broccoli, Chow Mein and the egg rolls. The egg rolls were great, it would have been great to get some sweet and sour sauce to go with them, but they just included some spicy ketchup and soy sauce. The Beef and Broccoli was more broccoli and veggies with a tiny amount of beef. For the price we paid, I expected there to be more beef. The beef were tiny little pieces, so when eating a bite of it, it was easy to miss. The broccoli was cooked great, and we enjoyed the other veggies in the dish, just disappointed about the amount of beef. The chow mein with soft noodles was okay. I know this is a traditional way of serving it in some restaurants, but other restaurants do it a little differently, so we weren't sure what to expect. Very good Cantonese cuisine. Large takeout portions with fresh vegetables cooked perfectly. Their egg rolls are huge burrito sized ones. Was actually shocked at the thickness of them. was afraid they'd be greasy. NOT... they were delicious, with tiny shrimp inside. I ordered two different chowmein's Subgum and Canton special they are normally served with those crispy noodles, I prefer the soft noodles which they do offer as well. Kind of pricey for Chinese take-out but they're open on weekends and later than most. Will order again. read more

The three of us are accustomed to reasonably good Chinese food. The three different meals served to us all were just so so, with a + for quantity of food on the plates and a - for quality. Incidentally, the fortune cookies were stale! The service was friendly, but we waited too long for the meals to come (the waitress apologized for the delay). I have the number 14 combination the almond chicken with sweet and sour sauce. I used to live here 3 years ago and I would come in here after I got off late at work and the food tastes exactly the same absolutely amazing as I see them so many Yelp reviews so many people come into a place to be fed and the first thing they do is Judge with their eyes the one thing that you cannot do in life is that you must judge with your taste buds and with your soul I brought my wife here for the first time ever and she is amazed at the quality of and flavor of the food staff was absolutely amazing friendly and helpful very quick to get us our orders back to the table tea was hot overall definitely coming back and bringing people with me read more

Canton has a variety of menu options. Everyone in my family felt the food was OK...not great...not bad. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Glasses had spots all over them. Seating is all wood booths (very lacking in the comfort area). Servers & kitchen staff were very loud in the back which made for a less then enjoyable visit. read more

I've tried this place 3 times now (only place around open past 930). Let's just say, every time has been nothing short of nasty. Waste of money. No flavor!!! Bland bland bland. The chicken fried rice has 0 vegetables, it's basically browned rice with tiny slivers if chicken, horrible!! The sauce on the chicken egg foo young was like jello, no joke, and then the chicken noodle,'ohhhh the chicken noodle, I asked the lady taking my order if there were any vegetables with dish, she said oh yeah, ohhh no there wasn't. I guess a few slivers of scallion could be considered a vegetable:-) but literally, all it was is cold spaghetti noodles, tiny slivers of chicken (like maybe 1 0z of chicken if you can find it) and no sauce, no seasoning, no nothing. So bland my kids wouldn't eat saying "this is gross daddy". Last dish was the general Tso's chicken. The only one that was anything close to exeible.
