Glad to have a healthy casual food spot near the area! The prices are very reasonable. At first I had doubt about the flavors, but trust me; it packs a ton of flavor and they dont skimp out on the protein!

Lobster Roll: 10/10 came with butter and fries Tuna Poke Bowl: 10/10 came with corn, onion, avocado, rice, kale Fish tacos: 10/10 came with zucchini and fries Tilapia: 10/10 got their chili sauce, with zucchini and kale salad The only downside is the food takes a while to prepare but it is worth the wait for healthy fresh fish!
This was my second visit--this time with the family--and it confirmed my first impression. Parking is easy, and the ambiance sits somewhere between a casual restaurant and fast food. That said, it's definitely not fast food; the quality and preparation go beyond that. One fun surprise was the soda machine, which had several flavors I hadn't tried before. A nice range too--from slightly bitter to quite sweet--so it's worth experimenting a bit. We ordered a mix of dishes: battered cod with fries and coleslaw, a salmon bowl with cauliflower rice and avocado, a spicy poke bowl, and a lobster roll. On the side, we added street corn and garlic bread. One thing I really appreciate is that everything is served on real plates with proper cutlery--no plastic--which makes the experience feel more like a sit-down restaurant. The staff were also very friendly and helpful, guiding us through the many seafood options. The lobster roll was a standout--especially dipped in the buttery sauce. Great texture and rich flavor. The spicy poke bowl had a nice balance of greens and tuna, with sauces that tied it all together. It looked as good as it tasted. The salmon bowl with wasabi and cauliflower rice was something new for me. I enjoyed it, but if you're not used to the flavor of salmon, you might prefer going with shrimp instead. The battered cod was crispy on the outside, flaky and juicy inside--honestly, it brought back memories of my first proper fish and chips in London (minus the newspaper wrapping). The coleslaw added a fresh crunch that worked perfectly with the fried fish and fries. Seafood isn't cheap these days, so I'm genuinely impressed by how they keep prices reasonable while still focusing on sustainability. I'd definitely come back. And for what it's worth--on my last visit, I tried the fish tacos, and those are absolutely worth ordering too.
Stopped in for dinner. There were several patrons also doing take-away. I was immediately greeted when I walked up to the counter. The workers were very helpful and upbeat. The restaurant was clean with a range of music genres playing on the speakers. This visit was a solid 3* but the staff was amazing so I had to bump my rating up a star. - I ordered a Rockfish taco, way too much breading and dry. I do not recommend. - One Lobster roll, it was ok. Wouldn't order again. - Shrimp basket, my go to. I just wish it came with more than eight perfectly golden cooked shrimp. I'll be back to try the clam chowder and get another shrimp basket.

This is a popular chain on the west coast that finally opened in the DMV. We were looking for a lighter dinner and decided to finally try it. We got the grilled swai with some grilled veggies along with their salmon bowl. The fish was fresh and flavors were good but on the milder side. For a healthier option, this was pretty good but I wouldn't really go out of my way to get it. Entrees: Wasabi Salmon Bowl and Grilled Swai with Rich and Zucchini Sides: Brussel Sprouts
Been here twice already. Portions are very filling and can make two meals. My go to has been the Everything Protein Bowl. It's full of shrimp, salmon, rockfish, chicken, rice, beans, tomato, and chili. Definitely hit the spot every time. We've also tried the lobster nachos which are huge and come in a catering tray size. Could use more lobster but still pretty flavorful. The dynamite fries and fried calamari are good sides and the sea salt mango juice was refreshing. California Fish Grill is also big on sustainability which is a huge plus. Definitely worth coming back to.
Went to a Yelp event at their location in Rockville and it was absolutely incredible. This one is consistently excellent as well. I had the Bronzino fish and it was absolutely perfect perfectly grilled perfectly seasoned.
I really wish there were more locations around NOVA -- this is such a great healthy option. My husband ordered the fish and chips with a side of kale coleslaw, and I had the shrimp tacos. Everything was delicious. The employees were incredibly kind and helpful, which made the experience even better. I do wish they offered more options for toddlers and kids beyond just French fries, but overall it was a great meal and we'll definitely be back.
Visited this location a couple days ago after hearing about it and here is my take; They have a running promotion in which upon downloading the app, you'd get an "Everything protein bowl" when you purchase a drink. The bowl which consists of Cajun shrimp, salmon, rockfish and grilled chicken served over white rice, beans, diced tomato, chili mix and chopped parsley. Served with a side of our Roasted Tomatillo which is ABSOLUTELY delicious. Thing is, there was literally one piece of Salmon and no Rockfish and decent portions of everything else. Now, when I address this to the manager "Daniel" I was quite repulsed by his response and demeanor which was very off-putting, stating that I am getting it for free where I correct him by stating that it's not "free" I had to purchase a drink, and it's a promotion your company runs, and if you're going to skimp the portions and have a shitty, pompous, and degrading response, then why run that kind of promotion at all ?! Left my meal right the and there and left. Safe to say that I will never step foot here again, and to everyone else, beware of Daniel.

Fast casual concept from Cali...excited to try it as a healthy, relatively inexpensive option is always welcome. They have several different fish options (swai, salmon, rockfish, catfish etc) to choose from and you get to add a sauce and sides. I go with the swai with the chili garlic sauce and the brown rice and street corn. It is pretty tasty and light. Feels like a healthy choice. Hope they open one closer to Reston as this woild be a good addition to the food scene.
We were introduced to California Fish Grill through a Yelp event and now my family are regulars! Where else can you get fresh, tasty, healthy sustainable seafood options at an affordable prices. The answer is ... nowhere but California Fish Grill! Their menu is super varied so it is one of the few fast casual places that our entire family can enjoy. Husband goes for the protein bowls, kiddos go for the battered fish / chicken tenders, and I love the grilled rockfish, cauliflower mash, and extra crispy/seasoned fries. We took our in laws here and they loved it so much that they ended up going back the next day by themselves. Service is super friendly as well. Had their catering for dinner and had the chance to try a little of everything- overall food was good and made me want to come to their restaurant. Swai- tender flavorful white fish. Cooked well Salmon- also cooked well and seasoned well Grilled chicken tender- a little dry. Under-seasoned but was good with their sauces/ dressings Cajun Shrimp- cooked well not rubbery or overcooked. Seasoned well Cajun Fish- seems to be swai in Cajun seasoning. Yum. Brussels sprouts- my favorite!! Flavorful Fire roasted corn- second favorite. California Fish Grill recently opened up in the Fairfax location. I had it in California but didn't know what to expect in this location. I got the everything protein bowl and it was great. It was fresh, good portion sizes, and all the food items came together packed in a bowl. Wish there were more locations but overall, great experience. Food was absolutely wonderful. They even had some sauces for free like the tartar sauce. Would gladly come again to try more. read more

I came to California Fish Grill because of all of the rave reviews on Yelp, and they were pretty accurate! I was looking for a healthier fast casual option for food that wasn't too pricy, and I found it in California Fish Grill. I love that they have a sustainable sea food policy, in that they only use seafood that is abundantly available in order to preserve the sea creatures from extinction for future generations. It's a super unique and kind policy that I can get behind, and honestly should be what we are aiming for as a society. My husband picked up my food so I can't say much about the atmosphere or the inside of the restaurant, but the order was accurate and had all of the extras that I wanted. I ordered the Salmon Burrito Bowl, which normally has: Cajun marinated salmon, white rice, beans, sliced avocado, tomato-cilantro mix, pickled onions, cream sauce & Roasted Tomatillo Salsa. I ordered mine with the cauliflower rice instead, and opted to take out the beans and pickled onions. I was a bit worried about the portion size as it looked deceivingly small, however I was pleasantly surprised at how much food was packed into this container. I could barely finish it and might need to share it next time. The salmon was tender and moist, and the Cajun spices were incredibly tasty and light. Every bit of the bowl had flavor, from the fish itself to the cauliflower rice, salsa, and cream sauce. I loved my added dynamite sauce which was perfectly spicy and flavorful, and the green goddess sauce which was my absolute favorite; It's a cilantro sauce with a tangy flavor. The bowl was a 7/10 for me. I also ordered the Cajun Rockfish Taco which had a corn tortilla (I really appreciate it when a restaurant uses corn tortillas as opposed to flour as it generally has more flavor and is much healthier, not to mention more authentic), spicy roasted corn, green goddess cilantro sauce, tomatoes, cabbage, cilantro, and pickled onions (which I did not get). The rockfish in the taco was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Again the Cajun seasoning and the green goddess sauce really made the taco taste great. The veggies were fresh and the cabbage crunchy. I would say that this was a 8/10 as well for me. I do wish they had a create your own bowl option and I hope to see that on the menu in the future, as it would still be using the same sea food that was available, just with different bowl ingredients. The only thing I would say that I didn't like was the fact that they most likely used canola oil in their seasoning and cooking which is usually a stomach irritant for me, and there was a decent amount of it. I am still rating it higher just because it's a healthy, sustainable and cheap option which is tasty, and most people who don't have my stomach issues would be fine to order it. TLDR: California Fish Grill is a healthy, sustainable, delicious, and cheap option for food. The seafood is fresh and the veggies as well, and the sauces and seasonings are on point. They get orders correct despite a lot of modifications, and I would recommend them to others who are trying to eat a little healthier while keeping on a budget. read more
On this visit, enjoyed a Cajun shrimp taco with a Caesar salad. Ate half of the delicious salad before I took the photo. The dressing was creamy and very good. The taco was well seasoned, had a nice sauce, fresh corn, and pickled onions. Very filling. Only issue was the tortilla was very thin and the whole taco fell apart when I picked it up. I ordered through the "Too Good To Go" app, so this review is based solely on that experience. The app lets restaurants offer a "surprise" bag of leftover food at a discounted price. In my surprise bag, I got brown rice, a hot zucchini salad, and coleslaw. The brown rice was actually really good and gave me a nostalgic vibe--kind of like the brown rice we used to have back in elementary school. The zucchini wasn't for me; it had a very strong Italian seasoning flavor. The coleslaw was also not great--it tasted pretty bland and was on the dry side, not very creamy or moist. That said, a lot of the other items on their menu sounded really good, so I'd probably give them another try in the future. read more

This California chain has arrived in the DMV! If you are looking for a solid and casual spot, this is it! The food is fresh, portions are generous, and the service is friendly. We shared two different types of fish , the branzino and the sway. The garlic sauce is definitely a must try and the Cajun seasoning was a good flavor profile. Everything was cooked just right, tender and had a rounded smoky flavor. Good spot if you are looking for something healthy-ish, fast, casual, and consistent! Located in Kamp Washington, California Fish Grill takes over from the now defunct Mod Pizza location. This is a refreshing addition to the area; California Fish Grill offers up fast casual seafood. One thing that sets California Fish Grill apart from other places is that they say that their seafood is sustainably sourced. They have a diverse menu with menu items including bowls, skewers, tacos, and soups. The fish tasted fresh and felt like it was on par with a meal from a build-your-own bowl place like Cava. I really liked the tacos here. They were a good size, and the fish was deep fried to perfection. If you are looking to get seafood in a fast casual setting, California Fish Grill is a great option. Seating: The dining room is huge. There's a lot of places to sit inside. Parking: There's a lot of parking in the shopping center. It get's busy with the Cava and Tea Do around the corner, but you'll be able to find a spot. read more

About 90% of the menu consists of 100% sustainable seafood options that range from rock fish to lobster. The protein is generously incorporated to every dish whether it's a taco or grilled plate. My order consisted of: - Crispy Wild Cod Sandwich - Salmon Burrito Bowl - Shrimp Skewer Everything was delicious and I definitely need to go back and try the tacos and lobster rolls. The restaurant has plenty of seating, and nice decor. Let's get down to the food, I ordered the Cajun grilled shrimp taco combo , two get two tacos on your choice of corn or flour tortillas, STUFFED with delicious Cajun shrimp, pickled red onions, spicy roasted corn, tomatoes and a spicy dynamite sauce; it comes with your choice of two sides, I ordered fries and pinto beans. I was impressed at the freshness and great flavor of all that was in my plate! Their presentation is more of a casual sit down restaurant than fast food restaurant, they provide real silverware, and your food comes out on a real plate. The food here was good but nothing special. It's a nice and relatively healthy meal. The fish was well seasoned but pretty boring until you add the sauces. The sides are pretty standard. Love the fish and shrimp tacos here! They are of bigger size and pretty generous on portions and toppings. Also ordered the fried fish platter, happy with it, like that you can do sides substitute to veggies to make us feel healthier. Nice and clean place and food comes out pretty fast. If you're looking for a healthy option that doesn't break the bank and is pretty fast and casual, look no further. California Fish Grill has several options for fish like branzino, rock fish, tuna, and salmon. I got the rock fish with cauliflower rice and zucchini. I think next time, I will spend a little more to upgrade the zucchini to something else. You get to pick the sauce for the fish - I picked the sweet chili sauce which actually wasn't overly sweet and was a bit tangy. I loved it. I'll definitely come back to try more! read more
Wow, I had no idea this place existed until my friend recommended it for our dinner date. I got the fish tacos and she got the original fish and chip's. It was incredibly busy for a Friday night, so either order ahead or be prepared to wait a while (both to order and go get your food). I also got one of the ready-made cocktails, but unfortunately it was really salty??? I understand a salt rim but this tasted like someone accidentally poured a tablespoon of salt into it. As for the fish, they were really crispy and seasoned well. Fries weren't anything crazy and the slaw was okay. I've never had this chain so I was excited that a location popped up in FFX!! The portions were sizable and the fish were super fresh. Service was very quick and friendly and staff were willing to educate new customers on the ordering process and different protein options. The store was busy busy on a Friday night but staff were handling it like pros keeping everything clean and organized! I saw they're also bringing 6$ margs soon!!!
