I had heard about this cute little breakfast and lunch shop on Facebook. I love the Ocean Park area and was happy to take a ride there. The shop is small, but reminded me of the corner store in my neighborhood growing up. I was welcomed by the cashier as I walked in. The case in the front of the store with the pastries was impressive and can't wait to go back and try them all!! Coffee is self serve with many varieties. Great lobster roll! Nice big pieces of lobster in a toasted roll with a light mayo dressing and nothing extra added. Perfectly sweet and fresh unlike some places that have a mashed up mess of slop that has a fishy taste. The clam plate is great and perfectly fried along with the waffle fries we got. Hot and with just the right crisp. The service was quick and friendly and the setting very comfortable/casual. Great place for a quick sit down and bite to eat without the fuss of going into a restaurant. Will return here next year when I come back to old orchard beach again! read more

I really wanted to have a better experience but unfortunately it fell flat. The service was quick (which is a nice plus) but it was rather blah. Not snippy, mean or rude but nothing more than telling me how much it was and taking my card. They don't automatically ask for a receipt so you need to ask if you want one. I bought 4 cinnamon rolls for my family and I was so excited to try them as I heard the reviews. Unfortunately, I just don't get it. It was honestly very bland. Lack of cinnamon in the roll itself and the frost was neither sweet (maybe a tad) or had a cream cheese frosting. I wasn't sure if they were gone for the European taste, which is typically less sugar and their pastries but even with that thought process, it still wasn't great. Maybe it was just an off day, but I feel like I could find a much better cinnamon roll elsewhere. read more

Food is pretty ok, but portions are smaller than their sister location and therefore not worth the ridiculous price. Especially when considering half the fruit on the açaí bowl was squished and rotten. All respect to those in the service industry but they had a tip jar available and then proceeded to add another tip electronically without asking. Ocean Park Subs and Grocery is an Ocean Park tradition for our family. When the girls talk about going to Ocean Park, sometimes they say "let's go to the beach"... Other times they just say "let's go get Chicken Caesar wraps at Ocean Park subs". Mind you, Ocean Park is a half hour away from our house. I will admit that not every item sold at OPS&G warrants five stars in a vacuum. There is clearly a convenience factor here - those subs taste darn good after a long morning on the beach, especially when there is not much else within walking distance. There is also a clear friendliness factor here - the owner and her seasonal flock of high school and college student workers are always friendly and upbeat and we clearly want to support the business. However, make no mistake - this five-star rating is earned, because their signature items are the best around for what they are. The cinnamon rolls and muffins both earn honorable mentions, but the star for us has always been their whoopie pies. Most whoopie pies I have tried have a spongy cake surrounding an under-whelming frosting. The cake on the OPS&G whoopie pie is more like a brownie - crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. And the frosting in between the cookies has enough sugar that you feel as though if you're going to splurge, you are at least getting the most satisfaction out of every calorie. Stop by OPS&G the next time you're near Ocean Park. Overall convenient and great for breakfast and lunch, and the whoopie pies are a must-try. read more

They sold 551 cinnamon buns in ONE DAY. Insane. We saw this in the evening and decided to go back the next day to try them and they were great. I like them soft all the way around, and the outside was a bit crunchy but the inside was perfect to me. The frosting was a bit haphazard, but delicious. This place is a legend! If you are lucky enough to know where the tiny little town of Ocean Park, Maine is, chances are that you know (and love) the Ocean Park Grocery Store. Don't let the name fool you - this is not your typical grocery store. More of a bakery / deli of sorts, the Ocean Park Grocery Store is a small, family-run business that whips up some terrific subs and beach treats. The most legendary options here if you're going the baked goods route are either their giant cinnamon rolls or their whoopie pies (pro tip - try the ones in the freezer!). While most of my family members are all about these baked goods (which are indeed amazing), I am partial towards their subs here - the BLT-style sub that I got (sans tomatoes, add cheese, pickles, and oil) was seriously one of the best sandwiches I've had in ages. The sub roll was amazingly fresh, and the bacon was thick, a tiny bit smoky, and so, so good. I literally could not stop raving about it all day at the beach. Their turkey sandwiches are also great here (they have that nice, thick-cut, Thanksgiving-style turkey), and I enjoy their Asian Chicken Wrap as well. Be warned, it can get crazy here at lunch time (the line wraps all the way around the store at times), but the folks behind the counter are efficient, and groups end up moving through pretty quickly. I haven't been back here in a while but decided to stop this morning for their famous cinnamon buns fresh out of the oven. I have to say, the last time I got one it was in the afternoon and definitely wasn't as good. I suggest going early in the morning to get them fresh. I also felt like they tasted lighter almost like a croissant texture which I really enjoyed. The staff is friendly and fast. The line was long but went by quickly. The coffee is fine, nothing special. I was disappointed in their breakfast sandwich. My English muffin was half burnt which I didn't see till I got home. I wish the girl would have just made another one as it was clearly black on one side. I was unable to eat that side and just ate the bacon, egg, and cheese. I would go back since I live in the area but would probably just stick to their pastries. They also have a nice lunch menu for people at the beach that want to stop and grab something. read more

ZWhat a fantastic day to spread at Ocean Park. The sun is shining and the air has that fall crispness that all Mainers enjoy, especially after all those wonderful tourists leave. My wife and I decided to have lunch with her cousin and she suggested we get take out at the Ocean Park Grocery and Sub Shop and what a fantastic decision she made. I ordered the "Be Healthy Annie" special wrap that came with kale and romaine lettuce, examine, corn, carrots, cucumbers, crispy noodles, grilled chicken, red peppers and a special thai spicy peanut dressing. It was delicious! The blend of all the veggies, dressing and grilled chicken created a great flavor. My wife ordered the "Aisian Chicken Wrap". She got it on a tomato basil wrap and it was filled with romaine lettuce, carrots, crispy noodles, mandarin oranges, white meat chicken, and their very own sesame ginger dressing. Our cousin got a famous ham Italian loaded with veggies. The sandwiches were fantastic, however the desert were to die for. I got the traditional Maine whoopie pie and my wife for the chocolate chip cookie. All was great, but if you want to try this awesome place out you better get there before they close for the season on Columns or Indigenous People Day. read more

So I've been coming to OP for 20 years with my family, and I must say this shop kills it in the mornings! Ice coffee on tap, amazing pastries, but come lunch time for a sandwich , it's a mess. Let's start with what they call the Italian , there's not one Italian deli meat in it, as a matter of fact it's a ham and cheese sandwich, what makes it Italian? Nope not genoA, nope not provolone, nope not mortadella , simply ham and American cheese , how strange: so knowing this for years of going there I noticed d what the called " the combo" it has Genoa!!!! Perfect I will build my own Italian , so she asked if I wanted the works and of course I said yes ! What I got was a soggy sub roll with some ham and Genoa and , wait for it, literally a dill pickle spear right in the middle of the sandwich , like they opened a jar of pickle spears and said " this should go right here " . Not pickle chips , not diced pickle, a quarter of a cucumber in the middle of my sandwich . Oh and wait , on top , green peppers and black olives!!! Not a stick of lettuce. So I hope the owner reads this and answers me this . Why do you call a ham and cheese sandwich an Italian ? And please respond with an acceptable answer , with all due respect, and let me remind you her cinnamon rolls are amazing !!! If I get a good answer I'll change my stars . read more

One of my favorite parts of summer mornings in OOB is taking the 10 minute walk down Seaside Ave from my cottage to Ocean Park Subs. I like to get a cup of Green Mountain blueberry coffee, the Portland Press Herald, and one of their freshly made breakfast sandwiches or their incredible cinnamon buns. It might come as a surprise that what appears to be a convenience store actually has great food. Their breakfast sandwiches are made to order with either an English muffin or bagel (plain or everything). They crack a real egg here; no rubbery, microwaved egg thing... You can choose from the standards; ham, sausage, and bacon. If you've never been here before, you really should try their cinnamon buns. They're warm and gooey with sweet icing over the top. Every time I'm in there people are walking out with boxes of them. This place is good for lunch too. Stop in for a lobster roll, or my personal favorite, the Thai Chicken Wrap.
