The service wasn't bad, but you could tell that they didn't want to be there. The food was good, but not great. The price really didn't live up to the hype. We started with bread service and a salad both were good and then I had a filet which was undercooked but no biggie and she had the chicken breast that was ok. The views of the ocean are outstanding.

You can never go wrong with Joseph's! The food is magnificent. From seafood to steak to handhelds, there is something tor everyone. The service is what you would expect from a higher end restaurant, but is not stuffy like some higher end restaurants. The servers are friendly and prompt but not invasive which is perfect for spending time with friends or family catching up on life and sharing a meal. The array of dining options is unreal. From their main dining room, which has spectacular views of the ocean, to their patio which is heated and perfect to catch the sunset; to the rooftop patio which is just a special treat, there is something for everyone: Joseph's is a special place that is such a vibrant part of the community. We love it there!

I'm afraid to say it's overrated. The location is prime, the menu looked great, and the ratings were high, but we found it to be lackluster. We went on a Sunday night and were told that they were fully booked for the evening but could seat us at the bar upstairs. Walking to the bar, we noticed that tables were empty. Even after we finished dining, those tables were still empty. I think the hostess could've done a better job to just have seated us and let us know there was a time limit. Sitting at the bar, our server was very attentive at least, but I wasn't so impressed by the food. Mussels were TINY though they gave a good portion. Perhaps I ordered the wrong dish. The strawberry salad was good though. Seafood pasta had generous portions and variety of seafood, but it was too salty. Ambiance is nice and I can imagine that it would be cozy when the weather is great.

Had a wonderful meal here. Extremely friendly staff and the chefs were really on point with the food. Only four stars because the restaurant could really use some updating and cleaning. The windows had lots of fingerprints and just overall had a 1993 vibe. While that may not be a bad thing for some, in a part of the country where there are so many fantastic places to eat... Don't relax on the details. However the food and staff were amazing and that's what it's all about. Time for some tables and chairs so they're not leaning so much

Haven't been to many places in old orchard beach, I was recommended Joseph's by some friends, the setting was a little basic for me. The service was very attentive along with helpful when it came to the questions I was asking. One of those questions was if the lobster in the establishment was local and not Canadian, luckily the lobster is sourced locally . I ended up having a seafood pasta dish that was very fresh and delicious! The drinks were great I was a little disappointed in old orchard beach for having such a limited and not good tequila selection. I will definitely return to this establishment for a second go to see if it's consistently the same. I will add you can show up casual or dressed to impress all are welcome!

Let's get to ambiance first. This place is fantastic! You have a choice for inside dining (only recommended for rain or cold weather, although it's beautiful inside too), outside patio, rooftop patio. All tables come with a view of the ocean. If it's a nice day, it doesn't get better than this! Service: Excellent. Food: There is an axiom that if the view is good, the food is bad. Not at this restaurant. My wife started with a cocktail and we ordered the $4.00 bread service. (Although the bread was fine, it's not really worth the extra $4. I'm sure this used to come free.) For a starter course, I got a cup of the Seafood Chowder. It looked kind of like mushroom soup and nothing much to look at, but when I tasted it, my mind was blown away. My God, it was good. The broth was lighter than clam chowder and unlike the more famous soup, it was infused with flavor. No lie, it was the best chowder I've ever had. It was packed with the right amount of seafood and I wish I had ordered a bowl, not just a cup. This was a 1000 out of 10. For an entree, I had the Pasta Maison ($34) with a generous portion of shrimp, scallops, salmon, mussels, sun dried tomato in a garlic-herb cream sauce over penne pasta. It satisfied my seafood cravings and was quite filling. My wife had the Chicken Piccata ($28) with lemons, capers in a white wine sauce. She doesn't often see this on the menu and was very happy with this version. She had a side salad which also was quite good. Our pre-tip total was just over $100, which was quite a fair place for what we ordered.

Great view, friendly service, and wonderful dining atmosphere. I haven't tried the food yet but the sangria is refreshing. Cheers!

This is a wonderful place to come for a date night or celebration, the view is just gorgeous! They have a fairly decent menu size (some places are so small, others have too large of a menu) and they serve you delicious Rosemary focaccia bread when you sit down. I ordered the fish and chips, which had a unique crunchy batter but was very delicious! The fish and chips come with ranch dusted fries, but I requested the truffle fries with aioli. Highly recommend those!

Incredible service, delicious food, breathtaking views... what else can you ask for? We visited Joseph's By The Sea recently to celebrate a birthday, and were completely blown away by the restaurant. The atmosphere was cozy, romantic, and inviting. We were fortunate to get a table by their windows with ocean views. As we sipped on our red wine, we watched the waves gracefully crash against the shore, creating an idyllic backdrop. The menu was extensive. We had the calamari and mussels as an appetizer, and the calamari was simply the best calamari I've ever had. The mussels were good, too. My partner had the sirloin steak and it was HUGE and delicious, but the true star of the evening was the pasta maison, a divine mix of pasta with shrimp, scallops, salmon, mussels, and an assortment of veggies. I cannot stress enough how much I recommend this dish. We finished our dinner with the blueberry cheesecake, which was also to die for. As mentioned earlier, the service was great. Our friendly server made us feel very welcomed. Truly cannot wait to return.

    What was left afterwards

Me, Foo, was in OOB for the weekend and made reservations through my motel's concierge at what Foo likes, a ritzy place. "Ni hao, Foo want ritzy dinner." "Ok then sir, it's gotta be Joseph's by the Sea!" So, Foo bowed to the crossed keys of the best motel and smiled. When Foo arrived at Joseph's the hostess was so pleasant and the bartender said, "Hi Foo, I'm new here but know you from Raffles in Singapore!" "Xie, xie!" said Foo to the new bartender. Foo was brought to a wonderful table on the terrace and the view was magnificent. Foo ordered cocktails, bisque and a burger. So delish!! "Foo, would you like dessert?" asked Patti my server. "No thank you, just the check, and Foo will leave you a great huge stack of grat!" me, who is Foo excitedly exclaimed. Patty then said, "Isn't Joseph's sublime?" "Yes, Patty, Joseph's is sublime, simply sublime. It's no wonder that other restaurants in Old Orchard Beach are jealous."

Great spot for dinner, lots of ocean views available bars, upstairs and downstairs. Our server did an excellent job. My fish and chips was delicious. Gluten-free with a cornbread crust. My wife's salmon was also delicious again gluten-free, the only thing that it wasn't really hot when it arrived.

Pretty location but on the expensive side. Food was hit or miss. Service was good. I expected better for this place.

But that's not quite right. It's evidence. Evidence that this is a place that has been tested, repeatedly, and continues to operate under pressure. And strangely enough, that inspires a certain confidence. You know, almost immediately, the drinks are going to be done properly. I ordered something simple. chicken fingers with buffalo sauce and bleu cheese. Nothing remarkable, and that's precisely the point. They weren't trying to reinvent anything. They were just... competent. And competence, especially in an environment that borders on chaos, is not trivial. It's reliability. It's order, holding its ground. The service reflected that same tension. Reese, the bartender, was clearly under strain. busy to the point where most people would start to fracture, but she didn't. She held the line. And if you've spent enough time in this industry, you know that's not easy to do. There's something almost admirable about watching someone maintain composure when everything around them is loud, demanding, and slightly out of control. And that's really the essence of the place. It's loud... almost aggressively so. Packed. Borderline unruly. At one point, there was a couple engaged in what was clearly a volatile argument... infidelity, perhaps? but the noise swallowed the details. It didn't matter. The specifics were irrelevant. What you were witnessing was raw human behavior, unfiltered, playing out in real time. And oddly enough, it fit perfectly. This is not a place for quiet reflection or carefully structured conversation. It's a place where order and chaos collide and neither one fully wins. But if you're the kind of person who can tolerate that, or even enjoy it... there's something undeniably compelling about it. If you want quiet, look elsewhere. But if you're willing to step into something louder, messier, and far more alive, then this place offers exactly that. It's not refined. It's not restrained. It's something closer to a modern day bacchanal. And for better or worse, that's the point.

The Caprese appetizer was insanely good. The haddock fingers were excellent. The ambiance is what pushes it over the top. Although the band was not that great, the beachfront atmosphere and set up was perfect and everyone got up there and danced.
