My sister and brother-in-law have been here and said the food was great. I was in the mood for sashimi so we made the drive to Ocean Sushi & Ramen. There's a lot to unpack here. Our lunch today was a mix of great and not great, so here goes. The ambiance was great. It's beautifully decorated and I loved the serving plates, which were decorated with a unique black and white pattern. Our server was fantastic. She was helpful, kept our drinks full, cleared our plates regularly and helped explain their rewards program. We asked if we could use my sister's number since they live in League City and we live in Ohio. She checked both my sister and brother-in-law's numbers (apparently they didn't sign up when they were there) and added the points we earned to her number. I'm just now realizing maybe they didn't want to share their numbers. Oops... too late. Now on to the food. We started with Spicy Garlic Edamame. It was served temperature HOT! We saw the steam coming off of them. When they first arrived they were literally too hot to handle. Additionally, they were spicy indeed. Even though Mark loves spicy food, together we barely put a dent in it. Our Miso Soup was served while we were eating the edamame. I couldn't tell if the spiciness of the appetizer negated the taste of the Miso Soup or not, but the bottom line is the soup didn't have much flavor. Also, while the edamame was blazingly hot, the soup was lukewarm. I said out loud (to Mark, not the server), "It tastes like bath water". It was disappointing. I ordered Sashimi Deluxe. Mark ordered Sushi Deluxe. My lunch came with 18 pieces of sashimi, three each of six different fish. Three of the six fish were delicious. Three were average. Mark didn't comment on his meal during lunch. I just checked in with him and he said it was "okay". Ambiance and service were winners. The food was definitely hit and miss. read more

Just happened to be in Webster to meet up some friends. Decided to give Ocean Sushi a try based off recommendations. Overall, sushi and menu similar to this other spot we been to near the mall. These were the most popular rolls that aren't similar to each other. I've been driving by this place whenever I get my loaves of bread from the bakery next door but I've never thought about checking them out until a friend asked to meet with me there to a lunch date. All I can say is I'm glad I went along with her because this may just be my regular sushi spot from now on! I ordered ramen and it was good (but nothing unique about it, hence, the 4 stars). I wish their broth had more depth to it. I tasted kinda bland. It can probably use a little longer simmering to better blend in the flavors. Then I tried their Tokyo sushi (I may be wrong with the name but it kinda sounded like it). It's just the perfect one for me! There's a good crunch on the inside and the flavors are really good! Wow, Ocean is a total gem in Friendswood! My hubby and I had a wonderful date night at Ocean. We ordered their crispy salmon skin, the Oahu roll, Lover roll, and their Sapporo Miso ramen. We loved the crispiness of the salmon, the peppered tuna in the Oahu roll, the sauce combo on the Lover roll, and the spice level of the ramen. Everything was so well made that I'd expect this place to be somewhere in Houston instead. Even though we visited on a weekend during dinner time, our server was so friendly and attentive. When you're for a date with my wife for dinner and this was our first visit here. It was on a Saturday night/evening and the establishment was pretty busy overall and the bar was full and most tables were full. Even though it was busy we did not wait for a table and we were seated promptly and asked for quarters and appetizers promptly as well. We had the hot and sour soup, the salad and some of the steamed Gyoza for an appetizer. For the main course, my wife and I shared some roles and I can speak to the special Toro role as being very, very good. I've come here a handful of times - one thing I can say that is true every time is that their sushi is super fresh. Their prices are a bit high but I think that's kind of expected for high quality sushi . The lighting is really dim inside and the building is on the smaller side but they seem to be able to accommodate larger parties pretty well . Not unbelievably amazing, not bad. Just an enjoyable meal -- that's what I experienced at Ocean Sushi. We ordered the following: Ocean 3 Roll: 3-stars. This was my least favorite. It was just really boring. I would not order it again. Crazy Roll: 5-stars. This one was my favorite, but it had a bit more of a kick than I anticipated. Cowboy Roll: 5-stars. Beef as the protein in sushi is weird, but I love it. And they did a great job with this roll. Spider Roll: 4-stars. Solid (as referenced above). 17 total stars / 4 rolls = 4.25. My intuition and my math are aligned! I'll even throw in that I'm rounding down .25 because I felt that the spiciness of the rolls was really amplified here. I came with my Mom and both of us had heartburn going into the meal, so we were extra sensitive to heat and are already kind of wusses to begin with. Never fails to satisfy! Reservations were all full last night so we went over about 4:45 pm and we were able to be seated, before the crowds arrived. Food was good despite very very very small size portion of shrimp and Conc esp for the price for their anniversary special. Been here maybe 2 dozen times since they opened. Service has always been good. Tonight's server and service was the worst I've had here and probably one of the worst servers ever. Ocean Sushi & Ramen was the perfect spot for lunch in Friendswood. Quick service, big portions, and high-quality sushi/ramen. I can't believe a place like this opened in the center of Friendswood. Growing up in the area, there was never very many Asian restaurant options, let alone ramen. So, seeing this pop up recently was a great addition to the area. Walking in, this restaurant is very nice and looks like a higher end Japanese restaurant you'd find in downtown Houston. Perfect for a business lunch, catching up with friends, or a date night. As far as the food goes, all of the sushi we tried was very fresh tasting. I prefer nigiri over specialty rolls, so we split the sushi and sashimi lunch special, which consisted of salmon, tuna, red snapper, and escolar. We also had their lychee mule, brussels sprouts, shio tonkotsu ramen, kimchi ramen, sapporo miso ramen, and their hakata red ramen. All of the different broths were very rich and satisfying. The berkshire pork was melt in your mouth tender and do yourself a favor and order an extra ramen egg, so good! If I had to choose which ramen was my favorite though, I probably liked the hakata red ramen the best. Thank you Ocean Sushi & Ramen for bringing a little food diversity to Friendswood, I really hope y'all are here to stay. We will definitely be back soon to try more of the menu. This place will be turning into one of my regulars soon. Looking forward to go back! To be honest, the ramen bowls aren't that good. There's too many noodles and not enough broth. In addition, the soup isn't very flavorful. However, it was very hot when it arrived and warmed me up in the cold, winter weather. On the other hand, I think the specialty rolls are really good. The rice is cooked well, and there's not a lot of it so you get more filling. The Bergman Roll is my favorite with its unique fried leeks on top. I also liked the Ocean 3 Roll that I tried because there's lots of fish. The sauce that comes with these rolls is also very good, a little tangy, sweet, and salty all at the same time. Overall, if you were to come here, get the sushi and skip the ramen. The appetizers, like the Spicy Tuna Pizza, were really good, so you should definitely try them too. read more

Mediocre sushi. Was told 20 minute wait, normal seating, we didn't want the bar and I've been waiting over an hour. When asked how many tables in front of us, we were told 3 tables. We have watched at least 5 tables be seated in front of us. When asked again how many tables after being falsely buzzed to the hostess stand to be asked if we would sit at the bar... no. This place was great when it opened, definitely 5 stars. However, we have been back half a dozen times since, and the experience has steadily declined. The sushi quality has fallen to perhaps a step up from grocery store level, mainly due to variety. The tuna was gristly, and the two rolls we got (ocean 3 and a special) were bland and nearly indistinguishable. The Hokkaido uni was less than fresh, lacking the floral quality I expect. The batter on the fried veggie appetizer was too thick, and the accompanying sauce reeked of chlorine. I think that it will be a long time before we return. Me and my boyfriend were craving sushi in the area and thought we would try a new restaurant. We were hesitant to go in because the parking lot seemed empty, however I am glad we took a chance and dined in. Upon entering, we were greeted to some cute decor. Walking in, the restaurant seemed very spacious, clean, and beautiful. Our waiter was Jenny. She was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. We went with most of her recommendations. We got 1) King crab special roll, 2) Oahu roll, 3) Kyle Special, 4) bluefin tuna truffle, and 5) takoyaki. I will leave the ratings down below: King crab roll 5/5: My boyfriend's favorite roll! This was an elevated version of a tempura roll. It has a bit of spice, but it complements the roll well. I personally found this a bit heavy but I know this will be a lot of people's favorite! Oahu roll 4/5: Me and my boyfriend's least favorite roll. We could tell the quality of the fishes were very good. However, the roll was lacking sauce. The king crab roll and the Oahu roll came with (an in-house?) ponzu sauce. Even with the ponzu sauce and soy sauce, the roll was very bland and lackluster. Kyle Special roll 4.5/5: My personal favorite roll (yes, even though I rated it less than the king crab roll). This roll was very refreshing, but I know it is not everyone's cup of tea. It is not a typical roll with the heavy sauce and umami flavors, but is very light and fresh. I would say there was a smidgen of too many raw onions, but my boyfriend thought it was the perfect amount. Bluefin tuna truffle 4.8/5: ALMOST perfect in my opinion! I think the sauce at the bottom was a tad too salty for my taste. My boyfriend with saltier tastebuds than me found it perfect! Jenny told us they just shipped the tuna like 2-3 days ago so the fish was fresh! Would 10/10 order this again though! My favorite dish that I ordered today. Takoyaki 4/5: Would be a 5/5 if they had about 2-3x more sauce. Overall, love the ambience, service, and food! We've dined at Ocean a few times for dinner and find their sushi rolls to be very high quality, creative, and wonderful. You'll spend a few more $$ than some of the other options in the F'wood area, so we go to Ocean for more special occasions. Be sure to ask for their "off the menu" menu for many more creative sushi roll options. We've also been there for lunch a few times - sadly, pretty lame quality for bento boxes.
