This is one of my favorites as far as the big chain ramen bars go. When it comes to tonkotsu ramen, the broth is the star of the show, and Jinya comes in swinging with a rich, flavorful pork broth that's hard to beat. They also have different spice levels, which I'm always glad to turn up the heat on. While the broth is up there near my favorites, it would be nice if they were more generous with the toppings. This particular restaurant itself is a bit on the small side though. Only 3 or 4 normal tables before they'll have to put you at the bar. Even then, there's not a lot of space, and things will get very crowded during peak hours. read more

What once started out as a gem within the Nasa area is now a mere shadow of itself. Service was fine, but I'm just not impressed with what should be the staple of a ramen restaurant--the ramen. Let's clap our hands for the pretty solid appetizers. Not at all mad about the gigantic, juicy, crunchy pieces of karaage or the reheated and dressed takoyaki (yes, wisdom teaches you things, and there's no way a restaurant can reproduce takoyaki [from scratch] that perfectly when they cant even maintain quality on their staple), but as happy as I am with the chicken, I will make the suggestion to bring back the spicy mayo and to keep the lemons on the plate. Although my partner didn't show it and said it was fine, it was obvious she was disappointed that she didn't receive a Demon Slayer soup spoon from ordering the monthly special since they were out of stock (waiter says there is no guarantee the spoons will restock). The promotion is set to end sometime in February, but I might take another long break from Jinya, again. I got the tried and true Jinya tonkotsu black, which was served with chewy (yes, chewy) pieces of pork chashu. I also noticed the wife only ate her toppings from her chicken yatai ramen and offered to trade her since I was mostly happy with mine. Wow, the monthly special, chicken yatai was super bland. I voiced my complaints about the yatai that was barely eaten and that the chashu was not rendered enough. He said he would let the manager know, who offered a complimentary ice cream mochi (ok, these werent bad). Ambiance: casual, loud with my type of music (pops, edm). The hard truth: not a place I could recommend to friends at this moment. Glad the owner is doing so well in this area and would highly recommend sister restaurants, but there's a glaring need for quality control here and maybe a bit more accountability is needed. Looks like I have some old pictures still uploaded, so I'll just go ahead and leave them in the post, but just take my word that the tonkotsu black still looks the same and the chicken and takoyaki are indeed as pretty as they are scrumptious. read more

I was in this area and came in yesterday night ordering the Vegan Opal Ramen with a side of extra shiitake mushrooms. It was a unique, exotic, very delicious and very aromatic meal all in one. The broth was oily, tangy, earthy and bitter in a very balanced, tasty manner. The noodles were thick, tasty and fresh. The shiitake mushrooms, cilantro, tofu and sourish vibes were all prominent ingredients you could really taste in it. The "vegan meat" piece was crunchy, kinda cool and was like a more tart jicama or something. The service was very friendly, welcoming and efficient as usual. Js, if u get dessert here, their chocolate mochi ice cream is very good and the matcha one is too. read more

We had the pork gyoza for appetizer, pan fried to perfection super juicy and tasty I ordered the JINYA tonkotzu black Ramen, it was amazing! so rich, the intense flavor of the charred pork comes through, the pork was very tender just melts in your mouth, great noodles, and fresh green onions, this was definitely my favorite. My husband had the Spicy Chicken ramen, this was so good, the flavor of the broth is like roasted chicken and fresh herbs, chicken is tender, great choice if you don't eat pork. Food can rather quick and was very tasty with a small amount of spicy heat. I will be returning! Lunch with green tea and tip was $20 and well worth every penny! Service, drinks, and appetizers here are great. Restaurant is nice. The staff can be a bit pushy to the point of annoying about upselling you drinks and toppings and badgering you to leave a review. Or telling you how to eat your ramen. But the ramen here sucks and highly inconsistent depending on the day you go. The amount of food and garnish/toppings is kinda low for the price of a bowl of ramen. This is one of the worst Jinyas I've been to as far as ramen. They're only popular because it's the best thing around here unless you go to Houston. I have tried most of the menu on different days and the ramen is always a disappointment. If you want actual good ramen do yourself a favor and head to the city. read more

I love myself a good late night meal of JINYA ramen with my family, though there are some issues that I've find myself having whenever I've eaten here the past two times. First, I find their seasonal specials to always be an afterthought, which makes sense given that these are new limited time items, but it makes for a sometimes disappointing experience. For example, while the Matcha they currently have is fairly good (though I feel as though its like 90% milk, 10% matcha), their Hokuriku Cabba-Chick Ramen I had ordered a while back was just filled with a buttload of cabbage with only around three pieces of small chicken. Next, I just feel as though the ramen begins to feel underwhelming after eating a few bites. Though I love their Tonkotsu Black and Spicy Creamy Shrimp Tempura, their Spicy Chicken Ramen was pretty one monotonous flavor throughout. Yes, it has pretty good flavor, but I feel as though the ingredients just don't seem to compliment each other to bring any of them out other than the egg. Service is good, though wait times during weekends are usually just too long, and the ambiance is nice and matches the vibe of the restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I still really enjoy this place and will keep coming back, I just feel as though I can't enjoy myself as much as I would want to. read more

Jinya Ramen handcrafts their broth over a period of 48 hours to perfect its taste and quality. The caveat-- they begin making the broth when you walk in the door. There's plenty of Jinya ramen establishments in the same area as this one. If you prefer long wait times, slow service, and a pervasive uncertainty about your foods arrival at your table, you might enjoy this restaurant. I personally don't believe any food earns an hour and a half wait, and if a dish does, it surely won't be at a chain restaurant that has multiple locations in Houston alone. read more

We really love the atmosphere, soups, apptetizers and service here. Ashley took great care of us as we tried the eggplant appetizer and brussel sprouts appetizer. The smoked old-fashioned bourbon drink here is wonderful, and Ashley did a great job of preparing and presenting it. I opted for my favorite soup, the Tonkatsu Black, which was wonderful as usual. Flavor flavor flavor!!! I tried this place after leaving the space center. Was in the mood for Pho and it was nearby. My brother ordered the spicy chicken pho and loved every bite. I love that you can get a noodle refill for your remaining broth. I ordered a vegan bao bun taco small plate. It was okay. Tasted as expected. But my main dish was a vegan rice bowl. It was so good!!!! Very flavorful and the perfect amount of food. I ordered the small bowl which left me satisfied and not stuffed. But after tasting it I wish I had gotten a large to have more for later. Drink wise I ordered a lychee mojito that was pretty refreshing. It had a bit more sprite than I cared for but it was still good. My brother and I both got margaritas. His peach margarita was very tasty and was festive. It came with a "light show" lol. I ordered the mango pineapple margarita....so good. Perfect. Lastly I wanted to to try the salmon poke tacos. The salmon isn't cooked just fyi. They were tasty. Kind of give ceviche vibes. Excellent experience at Jinya near NASA. I ordered the spicy pork Tonkatsu, fried japanese chicken, and the takoyaki. The ramen broth was rich and savory and the char sieu was very tender and not too fatty. The chicken Karaage was especially good - very crispy, flavorful and including the skin which almost made it taste like chicharron. The takoyaki was excellent as well. Why on earth did it take me so long to try Jinya?! I've known about this place for years, but for whatever reason, I never made an effort to eat here. There's no better time to try ramen than on a cold day, so Justin T. and I made our way over to Jinya so I could finally have my first true ramen experience. We were seated at the large communal table in the center of the restaurant. They did have seating at the bar as well as some booths on the perimeter of the restaurant. At some point, it got really loud and it was hard to have a conversation, but at least the playlist was good. Our server was Cheyenne. She was really nice and attentive! If there's a cucumber cocktail on a menu, you best believe I'll be ordering it. I had the Cucumber Martini and it was amazing! For my meal, I ordered a combo of Chicken Ramen with Crispy Chicken and Salad. Crispy Chicken and Salad - The chicken was very crispy and seasoned well! I squeezed the lemon slice on the chicken and it was so delicious! The lemon juice also brought out the flavor of the ginger dressing on the salad. I loved it! The salad was pretty simple, but that dressing really elevated it. Chicken Ramen - So good and flavorful! The broth had a nice umami flavor/sensation and it was very savory. I enjoyed the scallions and noodles too. I wasn't able to eat it all so I had some for left overs the next day and it was even better because it had more flavor! Brussels Sprouts Tempura - This was probably my favorite dish that I had. It was absolutely amazing! I loved it with the soy sauce and the spicy mayo. The mayo wasn't too spicy for me surprisingly. The soy sauce was good, but extremely salty. Every time I would dip my food in it, I immediately had to take a sip of water. If they could reduce the salt, it would be perfect. Originally I was going to give this review 3 stars due to my first experience. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either. I thought my server was okay but she didn't look like she wanted to be there. She was just going through the motions. I decided to come back and give it another go & this time around our server was fantastic. Kudos to Yovanna for her awesome service. Here are the items I've ordered. * Spicy Unami miso ramen- fairly decent. The broth had good flavor. The egg was cooked to my liking, runny & gooey on the inside. The ground pork was meh. I also didn't think they gave me enough veggies. 3.4/5 * Brussels sprout tempura- nice light crunch & good amount of salt on the outside. The spicy mayo was delicious. 4.5/5 * Gluten free ramen- the broth was light & creamy. It did need some more seasoning to give it oomph but the broth was not bad. The chicken was tendered. 4/5 * Tonkotsu black- this bowl was full of flavor. The pork broth was creamy & had a good amount of salt. The chashu melted in my mouth & the egg was cooked to perfection. 4.5/5 * Panna cotta- delicious. It wasn't overly sweet which is good for me. The caramel added a nice sweetness to it. It tasted like flan with vanilla ice cream. 4.6/5 Overall it was a great experience the 2nd time around. I was going to give it a 3 but I'm glad I gave it another chance. The staff here were all nice. It did take awhile to get the waiter's attention to get my water refilled, though. The ramen was okay. The price for the portion was reasonable but the quality wasn't. I didn't like the broth and it tasted a bit bland. The chashu pork now is different from how it was years ago. At first, I didn't like it but I don't mind it now. The light is dimmed inside so it's easy on the eyes. If you plan to take pictures of the foods or a selfie, you will have to use flash. read more

Five stars for customer service and interior design. Loved the vibe inside the restaurant. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted. I ordered to-go, so they offered me a menu and asked if I wanted to sit. I went to the bar, where Peyton again greeted me and asked if I had been there before. Since this was my first time he wanted to make sure he explained the menu and offered suggestions. He was very passionate about his job and sincere with his suggestions. Loved his personality. Now for the food. I give it 3 stars. Not the worst but not the best just so so. I ordered the fried chicken, jalapeño corn and the spicy tuna tacos. I will say skip the corn. It's over priced and the name sounds better than the taste. To me it was Darcie, I believe the manager was super nice and attentive. When she brought my food out she explained that if I needed to warm my items there was a QR code on the bag with warming instructions and also suggested that I try some of the sauces on my chicken. She suggested that I squeeze the lemon juice on the chicken and try using the spicy mayo as a dipping sauce. That was a great suggestion. It did add extra flavor. I LOVE JINYA! I probably come here way too often but I love a place that I know I can count on for consistency. The service is welcoming and fast while also making you feel catered too. Food is awesome! For starters I am a big fan of the shrimp tempura or takoyaki. As for ramen I highly recommend the Jinya chicken or tonkotsu Spicy. The California Poke Bowl is also great ! This was our second visit. It had been years . The first time we were overwhelmed by the menu and not sure we liked what we ended up with. This time my hubby and I went with my cousin and a friend, who recommended several items, and gave us pointers which helped us choose and enjoy- Vegan Harvest, Jinya buns, salmon sushi, and a spicy chicken bowl. I wish the staff would take a little more time to explain and suggest. The atmosphere is a little tight, and we were a bit too "cozy" with our neighbors. The food was awesome.
