Yowza! I ordered delivery from here based on all the yelp reviews. I don't always like to order sushi, usually like to eat it within minutes of the sushi chef making it.... But I'm here in Boston for business, and I'm not good venturing out into big cities and finding something I want let alone finding my way back to the hotel afterwords. So I ordered. I got the million dollar maki roll, the white mountain maki roll, order of salmon sushi, order of tobiko sushi, and order of surf clam sushi. All of it was fresh as can be. The salmon was fantastic. They def don't skimp out on the fish, and the two rolls were gigantic . the amount of sushi I ordered I can usually eat all of plus get seconds back home. But these rolls were big enough where I saved half of each roll for another time and I was STUFFED. Very impressed with the food. Gentleman who answered the phone was extremely pleasant and there was no communication issues whatsoever. My order came to $49 and change, but my company pays for $50 a day, and I had already used $21 earlier for lunch. He had no issues whatsoever running my card twice, once for $29 (my remaining company allotment) and then again for the remainder. This was awesome because now I was able able to expense some of my amazing meal! Try them out! read more

Ordered take out tonight from Ocean Sushi and it's our new favorite spot! Got a mailer and heard nothing but wonderful things about Ocean Sushi so we figure we had to give it a try. Ability to order online, which is convenient for our commute home. We ordered 2 veggie rolls, the crab special and a Philadelphia roll. We also got a side salad. First the sushi- my husband said it was the best Philadelphia roll he's ever had! It was creamy, perfectly rolled and had great flavor. The 2 veggie rolls were a little less tightly packed, kept falling on me, but they were so tasty that I didn't care! The ginger dressing on the salad was tangy, sweet and had the perfect amount of salt to it. The delivery driver was incredibly friendly, even though it took me a minute to come down and meet him. Ocean has been my favorite Japanese place on the North Shore for YEARS, but unfortunately what's driving me to review is that they've basically partially closed -- they no longer serve full dinner, no longer have a waitstaff, and are basically just a sushi takeout place. The quality of their food is phenomenal and I guess I'd rather have some of it than nothing, but it's a real shame -- it's not a place you can really go for dinner anymore, and I guess we'll never eat their great teriyaki or fried rice again. I don't know if they were struggling financially or just got tired of the demands of running a restaurant, but either way it's a big loss for North Shore cuisine. I'll keep ordering from them as long as the stay open because their food is still the best, but I'm pretty sad to see them be such a shadow of what they were. read more

Ocean Sushi is by far the best sushi in the area. As we all know, with sushi you are paying a premium for quality. The food quality is exceptional and the presentation, creativity of the food is equally impressive. We used to come here with the kids for sit down meals, they love their popcorn-chicken, edamame and seaweed salad, but since Covid we started doing take out. We've been eating here for years and I have yet to find a better sushi place! The staff is so warm and friendly, and they always remember us when we call. I have celiac disease and they're super knowledgeable about gluten and making substitutions! I've never gotten gluten poisoning here, which is rare in restaurants. Been ordering from Ocean since I moved to the area. The more times we get it, it seems the quality of sushi has been going down. We usually get the same 3-4 rolls as always. Those are Volcano, Dragon, Godzilla and Lady in Pink. The first 3 on our last visit just did not have the usual fresh taste. The seafood tasted a little old. I'll still most likely be back because good sushi is hard to find. Most people I think believe Ocean is pricey but comparable spots will also give you less quantity, and I do like that most of Oceans rolls are 10 pieces/roll which is probably above average. read more

What a hidden gem! The first thing that struck me was the incredibly generous portion size. I'm not talking about getting lots of food. I'm talking about the ratio of fish to everything else. Eating sashimi here is like eating steak. And the quality and freshness of the fish is top notch. They also have a bunch of great rolls. I feel that places tend to be good at rolls or good at nigiri and sashimi, but Ocean is great at both. Finally, the owner Lee is awesome. I moved to Melrose last year, and was looking for a local sushi spot and found Ocean Sushi. I really wanted to give them five stars, the food quality, portions, and price are all very good! After being a semi-regular customer, my initial pause for this business remains. The service is frequently unfriendly, and they are not subtle at all about pushing you out. I have brought people here, but when I am alone, I am always being rushed and I have gotten a stomach ache from feeling stressed more than once. If I so much as pause while eating, which is normal when one is with someone else, they find a reason to come by when I have no need (not looking for them, they were just there, no empty dishes, etc). I was a server for over 8 years and no place I worked condoned such pushy treatment of their customers. I'll likely go back because they are convenient, but I sometimes choose to make the trip in to JP to my favorite spot instead because it is worth the trip to have a better, more relaxed dining experience. I took off one star, because the pushiness often felt makes it so unpleasant. read more

The sushi is SO GOOD. So fresh, so flavorful, so generously portioned - truly, the sashimi is practically an inch thick! Ocean Sushi is a rare gem and I'm so glad I gave it a shot after initially misjudging it as strip mall sushi, which can be very hit or miss (often more miss than hit). The quality is impeccable and the prices very reasonable. I've only gotten takeout, but eat-in looks appealing too. The service is great - the online ordering process is simple and efficient and the food is always ready on time, with a friendly greeting from the host. For hot appetizers, I can recommend the steamed shrimp shumai; the gyoza are good, but don't always travel well. For cold apps, the Sashimi Appetizer is excellent both in taste and price! It comes with 7 HUGE pieces of premium sashimi - yellowfin tuna, salmon and albacore. For entrees, I'm a big fan of the Sushi & Sashimi Combo - you get a great variety of both, as well as a Spicy Mixed Fish Maki where elsewhere you'd typically get something boring like a California Roll. Also, comes with your choice of 2 sides. The ginger salad dressing is excellent - I need to learn how to make this because I could eat it daily! Most recently, I ordered the 3 aforementioned dishes for 2 people to share and it was more than enough food - we were VERY hungry and struggled to finish it all, but ultimately left no fish behind. The menu is bountiful so there is certainly something for everyone. It will be hard for me to venture away from my go-to dishes, but I definitely want to try more of what Ocean Sushi has to offer and I recommend you do the same. read more

Solid sushi place for sit down or take out orders. Prices are reasonable and they're very quick. For starters, I recommend the agedashi tofu. It's hot and crispy on the outside and soft and savory on the inside. Be sure to use the dipping sauce! The sushi is very good, both on the cooked and raw menus. My favorite is the shrimp tempura roll, which is a good size and comes with fresh, still warm shrimp tempura inside. I would like to take the time to truly compliment the owner and this restaurant. The city of Melrose is so grateful to have his restaurant in the neighborhood. The owner is always extremely friendly, generous, smiling and hospitable. Our family has dined in and also ordered countless times. It is a very clean and cozy place with just the right amount of variety you need. I was looking for a new sushi place and stumbled across Ocean Sushi, and could be no more pleased! Our waiter was very attentive, food came out within reasonable time and, the food, was just amazing. Kid you not, the sushi maki rolls are HUGE! And 10 pieces!! Each piece would stuff my face, which meant I became full quickly. So, I ended up taking leftovers home (which I NEVER do with sushi). The restaurant is located in a residential/strip mall area. Parking was easy when we arrived (it was late in evening) but am sure it might be challenging if going during the day time. read more

This is my new go-to place for sushi delivery! Everything that I have ordered from ocean sushi has been good. I have ordered from here twice and the fish/seafood is always fresh. The sushi is made well and cut very nicely. I noticed that the soy sauce they provided was organic, but I am not sure if their offerings are organic. They offer a great variety of sushi/rolls and they are mostly Americanized sushi. In terms of creativity, I think it's pretty decent. The rolls I would recommend are: yellowtail with scallion roll, spicy salmon roll, salmon skin roll. Not to mention, their prices are also reasonable. I have never been let down by Ocean Sushi. Whether it be deliver it dine-in, I have always enjoyed this sushi restaurant. The best way I can describe their sushi is that it's *clean*. Clean as is, they pay attention to the details, it looks perfect, and all the the flavors come through distinctly and powerfully. It's not sloppy looking, and the flavors don't mush into something bland. Service is always very fast and polite, be it a delivery driver or the dine-in waitstaff. My go-to is the Phoenix Maki, for it's perfect compliments of flavor and texture. The spicy mayo and scallions give it a spice, while the avocado and rice cool it down. The tempura shrimp and tempura flakes give it a savory crunch, while the avocado and mayo make it creamy. A decent portion is a special maki and one of the smaller, regular maki. Prices are about average for sushi in the Boston area. While they don't take reservations, I've never had a problem getting a table. read more
