Nice ambiance; fancy classical Italian decor, tablecloths and a nice bar. Service was attentive and the view is great. Nice place for a date night. The Mexican food was simple, but good & tasty. They make their own tortilla chips and salsa (spicy!) We did not have a chance to try any Italian selections, but what we saw looked good. Some reviews said that the food is pricey, but even the very casual places in Ketchikan seemed pricey, so the nicer dining made it worthwhile Owner is from Mexico, but felt that Ketchikan needed a nice Italian restaurant, hence the Italian/Mexican menu. i've been here before numerous times. even before it was in this location, many many years ago. i've enjoyed it for a long time, but not anymore for me. this review is based on the last time i will ever eat there again. i wont say anything about the food that was cooked in the kitchen. my complaint is not there. the host at the door & our waitress. we've got a problem. we got our complimentary chips & salsa & ate most of it (along with 4 tablespoons of a $5 guacamole) before we noticed it had a fake nail at the bottom. no wonder the waitress kept staring at us. she was waiting to see if we had noticed it. she was missing a fingernail, my sister could clearly see after we found the nail. All we got was an apology after we brought it to someone's attention. we still decided to eat there anyway since we were all hungry & travelling all day. i waited til the end of the meal for someone to talk too us about it, no one did. talked to the host & asked if we were going to be compensated in any way. he said no since he didn't have the managers code. i asked if he was kidding, he walked away. came back & offered 1/2 off our meal. I have worked in the restaurant before & know how to deal with customers. this is not how you treat someone after they find a finger nail in their food. I'm just glad my 2 year old didn't find it before we did & eat it. god knows what she could have been scratching or picking at with that nail. read more

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST MEAL AND RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER EATEN IN!!! We should have known better, because when we walked in there were a few groups of disappointed people standing around by the hostess desk waiting to be seated. I asked one couple how long they had been waiting, and they said they had been seated previously and waited 45 min at their table and no one ever came by to serve them! Wow! The decor is beyond hideous, some kind of wannabe Greek theme painted on every wall. The menu was a little Mexican and a little Italian. They are painfully slow and very short staffed. I'm sure it doesn't help that 2 of their waitresses actually SAT DOWN at a large table with people that they knew. Dirty tables went un-bussed until another waitress had time to clear it. Just absolute chaos from the start. We sat down and waited about 20 minutes for a waitress to take our order. We spent an HOUR waiting for our food, all the time noticing 3 other tables who came in after we did got their food first. We asked a waitress to check on our food, she said it was on its way and she was "sorry I can't serve everybody well tonight" as she went back and sat down at the table with people she knew. When the food arrived, both myself and my co-worker commented on the greasy, salty dishes we had in front of us. It was so bad, we had to send back both dishes, and to our waitresses credit, she took them off our bill. We wound up eating dessert for dinner, because really let's face it: it's very hard to F up dessert. Food is already at a premium in Ketchikan, sad to see so much of it being made into crap and going to waste here at Ocean View Restaurante. No one seemed to care, especially the greasy goon manager hanging out watching the baseball game behind the bar. And lastly, but VERY important: check out the restrooms on your way in and let the condition speak for itself: restaurants can be measured by how clean their bathrooms are, and these bathrooms were extremely FILTHY!!! I wish I would have peeked in and taken a look earlier....SO GROSS!!! I can honestly say this is the worst place I have ever eaten. Why anyone would give it more than one star is ridiculous! It deserves NEGATIVE stars!!! Shitty food with shitty service. Someone really needs to call the health department!!! WTF, Ketchikan!!! EEEEEEW!!! read more

If you are looking for good service this is not the place for you. My waitress didnt even ask if i wanted another beer or how my food was. It also took at least 15 minutes to order our food If I have had good service I would have given 3 stars. I had the chicken Parmesan which wasn't too bad. The spaghetti that came with it was bland. the side salad was excellent. This review is based on my most recent dining experience. Food was alright , it could have been better, given the fact that it's Mexican food in Alaska. Coming from a board town in Texas near Mexico and visiting Mexico throughout my life, I am a bit bias when it comes to Mexican food. However, it was open later than most of the restaurants there and the service was good. I never leave reviews but this is worthy! We just moved into the delivery area and were super busy excited to order delivery. Mollie answered the phone and was friendly and did an excellent job of answering all of my questions, explaining the menu items, and even convincing me to order dessert!! Our house is kind of hard to find so I figured they would have to call to find it and we may even have to go to the end of the driveway to get our food. Mollie said it would take 45 minutes to an hour. 27 minutes later there was a knock at the door! Our food was here, no call, no walking to the end of the driveway, it was at our front door! I didn't get the young man who delivered's name but he was very friendly. The food was hot and delicious! No different than if we were sitting in the restaurant! First off, this review is biased. I used to work there as a bus boy in their old location when the only view from Ocean View was the shipping containers! Fast-forward a decade+ and they are in a much better spot, but the food is as great as always. I recommend the Halibut Fettuccini. It's worth it! And if you're there on a potato/bacon soup day, then hit the trifecta! Soup, salad, and halibut fettucini. read more

Service was really bad. I got my table and 20 mins later I was finally able to get my order in. 10 mins after I ordered a top of 7 came in, And received there beverages before I did. Waitress walked by numerous times, so I had to owalk to the bar to order a drink. Food finally came, she dropped it off and left no silver ware and only a napkin she used to wipe the drink she spilled. Waited another 15 mins as my food got cold and she continued to walk by without checking on me until I had to stop her to get me silverware. Several options to choose from. They offer Mexican food, Italian food, some gyros, sub sandwiches & pizza too. As a vegetarian I appreciate that there were several items I could eat. However, I would've enjoyed seeing just one healthier pasta option, like a pasta primavera w- fresh vegetables? Finding fresh, tasty vegetables in Ketchikan seems to be a challenge. I believe they had Italian food on the menu, but we all ordered Mexican and it was legit. Maybe it's because I've been living in Hawaii with no good Mexican, or that I had been eating food on a submarine for the previous 2 weeks. We were quite pleased with this place. Kind of tacky christmas decorations on the wall, but nicely remodeled with a great view. Huge menu; one of the largest i've ever seen. We each had a molcajeta, which is protein, vegetables, and a sauce in a REALLY HOT black lava bowl with a plate of flour tortillas, rice, and beans. We could have easily split one. Another Mexican/Italian restaurant. The menu looks good, but the food is okay. Free chips and salsa, but the salsa is meh. I ended up with cheese pizza with onions. There was too much cheese compared to the amount of sauce. Very thick dough. Wasn't terrible, but wasn't anything special. I did sit outside and get to look over the water and the land across the way, which was very pretty. Prices are a bit high, but I imagine it's because it's a tourist town. There seems to be a pigeon problem, but I imagine only because of the idiots who feed their French fries and bread to them. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in town. I can't say that any longer. The service is terrible and I see no improvements in place. The owner walks around and talks on his phone while one poor waitress runs herself ragged trying to wait on everyone. The food is good but it is difficult to get your appetizer before your meal, get your drinks, and feel like you are taken care of. I do not blame the waitress. She can only do so much. I frequent Chico's several times a week because the service is fantastic. Time to wake up and take care of your staff so your patrons continue to want to eat your food. read more

I don't recommend this restaurant, they had poor service and the reason why is I had gotten my plate of food grabbed out from in front of me before I was finished. Also they would out of nowhere get in between us and grab stuff. The person who was grabbing stuff had a terrible smell. There was also a $24 tip posted on the receipt before we had a chance to even decide to tip or not. It was $170 for only 4 people to eat 1 meal each. Very unprofessional. So incredibly disappointed! We have lived here for years, and Ocean View has been a regular for us. But the last few times, the food has gone steadily downhill while the prices have gone up. Each time we've decided to give it another try because once it truly was amazing - and after tonight I think I've decided to throw in the towel. We ordered in at 5pm, I paid with my card and provided the girl on the phone the address and phone number even though we are in their records - because I didn't want a mix up. TWO HOURS LATER....no food, so I called back only to receive a different person who told me my order was never taken! The girl on the phone proceeded to tell me she was busy and didn't know. This girl lacked in some serious customer service skills. (Most of the wait staff are pretty awesome, so I was hoping to let her slide) But she didn't even apologize! After demanding to speak to anyone else at this point I was placed on hold for an additional 12 minutes only to finally get the person I originally spoke to said she didn't know what happened, apologized but her shift ended and she would let her boss know. But would we still like to order? Oh please, take my money, tell me it's going to be another 45 minute wait...next time I'm calling for Chinese. read more

Pros: One of the biggest menus in town. You are too hard to please if you can't find something you like on the menu. Plus a wide variety of different styles of food. Food is pretty good. Sort of a CheeseCake Factory rip-off. But 9 out of 10 times I eat there, I enjoy the food. Cons: Horrible service. Hostess is often acting "too cool" to bother with you. And some of the waitresses are just downright rude and awful. I see that one of the worst ones is now working on the dock for their little shack there, so maybe she won't be back to the main location. One of the better restaurants in Ketchikan. I am on vacation from San Diego traveling to Juneau. We enjoyed two days/nights in Ketchikan, Alaska. Our hosts recommend Oceanview Restaurant as they made this trip two years ago and found a fun place with great food and enjoyed the personal touch of the owner Luis. Well--something has gone wrong here! The hostess was more interested in her cell phone than to greet us & seat us. Finally one of the servers seated us (a group of 6). The margaritas were great as were the chips & salsa. As for our dinners, the dinner salads were served with the entrees--hmm. Of the 6 entrees, three were absolutely cold--although the sever had hot pads (so to indicate the Mexican fare was hot. We tried to enjoy, but Mexican platters served cold just doesn't cut it. Well--any kitchen can can a a problem, so we asked them to be remade. The three entrees were re heated. Mine a tostada had no lettuce or the advertised avocado. I indicated it wasn't appealing, please make me a fresh hamburger (from page 4 of the Mexican/Italian/American menu. The server returned with my tostada plate and told me the kitchen insisted I eat the tostada (third round), or give him more reason why I didn't like it. I am not a food taster to resolve this restaurant's problem. I am a patron! This time I went through each part of the plate and critiqued what was wrong, and again pleaded for the most simple hamburger so I could get out of there. In the meantime I noticed one of the other guests had returned the chicken enchiladas as there was an unspecified black item in the enchilada. At this point the two of us decided we had given this restaurant beyond a doubt of patience, and requested to be served nothing. Our hosts then asked if the restaurant had s new owner and were told no that Luis was sitting at the restaurant and was well aware of the problems. He, nor any management staff had the courtesy to inquire of our horrible experience. Merely the server was the only communication. Therefore -- I strongly recommend against patronizing this establish. The kitchen is horrible, and more importantly the owner/management have no interest in being in the hospitality industry. read more

We've eaten at this restaurant many times, but it has been a few years. This year we came away with a negative experience and are doubtful we'll ever go back. Very sad as we had so enjoyed this restaurant when visiting Ketchikan in the past. This year we made reservations, to arrive and find the restaurant wasn't busy, but we still felt we didn't have great service. One entree that was served was not what we ordered, waitress never seemed to come around to check on things. We both ordered a different Mexican combo, yet each included a beef taco. While we were happy with other items in the combo both of us were very disappointed in the taco. The greasiest and lowest grade of beef taco we've ever had. The worst fast food restaurants we've eaten at did a better job than what was served at this restaurant this year. Poor service, mixed feelings of food quality, prices, etc. all resulted in an unsatisfactory dining experience. Not sure what has happened, but not as good as it had been in years past. Maybe that was why there were far less customers? Either way, we are doubtful we'll ever go back. read more

Food-wise, one of the better restaurants in town. They could do better as far as service goes, but if you're not in a rush it's worth waiting around for the good eats. I love Ocean View! It is this great little Mexican restaurant overlooking the Tongass Narrows. You can sit there and watch bald eagles fly by, maybe catch a glimpse of a killer whale swimming along and, oh yeah, the food is excellent! They give you some really delicious chips and some mighty fine salsa while you are waiting for your food. The price is very reasonable for what you get. Something kind of strange but makes this place even better is that if you aren't in the mood for Mexican food than you can order delicious Italian, Greek, and American food as well. I have had some outstanding homemade style lasagna and gyros and it is ALL good. Luis the owner is a good guy as well. The best restaurant in Ketchikan! read more

Moving back after 20+ years and had never been here. Thought I'd give it a shot. Should've went to Bar Harbor or Cape Fox... Seriously. Service was sloooooow: took 10-15 minutes for someone to take our drink order. We had to ask the busboy if we could order drinks. Took another 5-7 minutes for someone to take it. Drink was watered down when received, although my fiancé did get his beer in a nice, cold glass which was great. Server spoke really loud and fast. Food was overpriced with small portions (portion to price ratio was way out of whack). Took another 25 minutes to get our food. The hostess and the busboy were the best part of our experience, they were great. Just go to Bar Harbor... Or anywhere else. read more
