I mainly eat vegetarian but occasionally eat chicken. I do not eat fish but love veggie sushi. Great sweet potato roll-perfect size and had a lot of sweet potatoes in it. My purse fell over the side of my booth seat and fell in between the booth and the wall. It ended up getting stuck on a sticky rat/ mouse trap. I think the quality of sushi here just is not good at all. If you come I would get the kitchen food as that is actually pretty decently tasting. Whereas I think the raw fish is just horrible. I don't know why this place has less than four stars because I LOVE this place. Whenever I come to Philly and am craving some noodle soup or well priced sushi I come here. My regular dish is the hand drawn beef brisket noodle soup. It's not as good as from Nan Zhou downtown but it's pretty damn good. The broth is rich and flavorful, and the noodles are great. The shaved noodles I've found are shaved a little too skinny for my taste making them not very doughy and fall apart more than I like but they're not bad. The beef falls apart and is very tender. And the broth is where the money's at. Come here if you don't have time to go to Nan Zhou but need to sate a craving. I've also had their sushi a few times - I love their lunch/dinner specials because it's such a good deal. I typically get salmon or eel rolls and they're delicious! Food was decent. Definitely a good option if you are craving some sushi in the University City area as other sushi options are limited. The biggest turnoff for this restaurant, however, is the service. It might be because they are used to serving college students, but the staff were rude and even told us to sit back down when we got up just to flag one of them down for extra utensils. On top of that, they automatically charge a 20% tip for groups of 4+, so don't be surprised to get poor to mediocre service and tip more than you were planning on. We were a little hesitant coming here given the recent polarized yelp reviews, however I'm glad we did as the food was delicious and the service excellent. We ordered the loveboat for two and the restaurant graciously substituted 5 of the sashimi for sushi. Honestly it was some of the best sushi I've eaten here in Philadelphia among the sushi places within this price range. The shrimp sushi was perfectly cooked, something which is often overdone, and the sashimi was surprisingly thick cut. The selection was good as well with only one piece of sushi being what I consider a "cheap cop out," which was the fake crab covered sushi. The miso soup could have used a little more salt and the salad was completely unnecessary as the love boat portion was more than enough, so I didn't even try it but overall the dish was a win. The decor and vibe was pretty cool as well. They were making the hand drawn noodles next to the sushi station which is not only fun to watch but also lets you know that the noodles are legitimately hand drawn. Needless to say ill definitely be returning, next time to give the noodles a try. read more

They need much better SIGNAGE and an attitude adjustment. We wanted to Eat In and the first thing that you see is the TO GO Machine (no sign) so we placed our order there but... we wanted to eat in. We can't read minds. We asked the manager if we could cancel or transfer the order to a table but was told that they "couldn't" and that we couldn't sit inside. The yogurt place next door has tables outside but not this place. I suggested adding signs and the manager was just rude. They are busy with to go orders because the students have already learned their rules but they are obviously not interested in Customer Service for non students. Came here with a friend who raved about the noodle soup broth. The interior was a bit dark for my taste but it was nice, sleek, and modern. I always thought of Ochatto as just a bubble tea place so I hadn't been expecting so much seating. I went with the Japanese Roast Pork noodle soup with hand drawn noodles. A little risky because I knew the broth was Chinese-style, but I'd been craving tonkatsu ramen for days so I thought pork was worth a try. The broth didn't disappoint! It was flavorful with a lot of depth, including some sweetness (think pho). The menu does say it's beef-based but in my opinion it still paired well with the pork. A lot of cilantro on top which I'm not too fond of. Noodles were average with a good amount of bite. The pork was super yummy! Flavorful and tender, almost melting in my mouth at times. Ochatto is not that good. It really isn't. The sushi is meh. The only good sushi roll is the spicy scallop. Everything else is mediocre. The service isn't that great. Also, don't get the chicken cutlet bento box. The sauce isn't very traditional and the sushi they give you is kimbap. Also, their tempera is so big, it scratches the roof of my mouth. I got the crunchy spicy salmon roll, and seaweed salad. The seaweed salad portion is HUGE and cost $5.00 and the salmon roll comes with six pieces and cost $6.00. $11 for sushi??? that's pretty reasonable since buying a super-market sushi pack costs about the same. so far, i wasn't blowwwwn away from ochatto's food, but it hits the sushi spot and i'm a big fan of consistency. this will probably end up being my go-to spot when i'm craving a lighter dinner. read more

Beware of being overcharged. 1. The services is so slow. So don't go during lunch. 2. The food is ok. However, when I finally got my check, I checked the price and sent it back with my credit card, apparently the "register" mistakenly added another $2 to the calculation, just for running the card. That makes so sense to me, if you are just closing out. For only 2 parties, there is no additional gratuity. Needless to say, after it took 3 people to take note that I was mysteriously overcharged, it took another 5 mins to have the transaction cancelled and have my charge corrected, so I was late coming back from lunch. I've been here quite a few times. It is a must go-to restaurant in University City. They have a big menu that's worthy to dig into. Hand drawn noodle is what most people get like I did in my first few times came here. Then I found out the big variety of sushi special. For example, I love the Mango Hawaii sushi, Dragon roll,salmon skin hand roll and soft shell crab hand roll!!! I always wanted to get all of them as well as the noodle soup. But that will be tooo much money spend on one meal. Anyway, as a college student, when I go out and eat with friends, we always came to Ochatto. It's convenient, and the food come out fast at an affordable price.
