Let me start off by saying that this restaurant is adorable! It's located downtown with a view of the river. It has minimal seating but there are always tables available as long as you make a reservation in advance. My friends and I visited Ocho a few days ago to celebrate a special occasion. I got the Pozole Verde, a mildly spicy soup with shredded chicken with hominy and tomatillo poblano broth. My friends got the Cubano, a pork and ham sandwich with swiss cheese, red onions, and pickles, and a Spicy Hippie Quesadilla, with black beans, mushrooms, and corn. The Pozole Verde was delicious. It was served at a good temperature and the texture was amazing. The shredded chicken inside was delicious and I genuinely enjoyed this dish. On top of the amazing flavor, it was garnished decently well, which made for great photos! The Cubano was alright. It was very filling and large, but could have used a different mixture of sauces. Overall, it was good and was enjoyed. The quesadilla is the reason that this review is only four stars instead of five. It was priced very high for what it was. It was small and very hard to it. It was presented well but that was about it. The flavor was mild and nothing special. My friends were a bit disappointed with this dish but luckily, we had enough of the Cubano to go around. The atmosphere of this place was casual but high-class. It was chilly outside so the dining room was closed off but there seemed to be a bar facing the river that guests could sit at and enjoy. We had reserved a small table in the dining room for ourselves and we were seated promptly. I absolutely loved the setup of the tables themselves. On one side, they had a small loveseat/coach, and on the other side, cushioned chairs. It was comfortable and made for a perfect photo. On our way out, we noticed that they had heaters outside, which made the chilly weather bearable so it looks like we would've been just fine outside as well. Overall, this place was adorable but a little pricey. The Cubano and the Pozole Verde were worth the money 100% and we definitely enjoyed them. SOOOOOO GOOD! We stayed at the Havana Hotel, so we went to Ocho for late lunch the first day we got here! The views and good did not disappoint! The carnitas taquitas are SOOOO good. I wish we would've just ordered two of these and called it a lunch. I ordered the Havana hippie quesadilla and my boyfriend got to the burger on the menu. What? Where did this place come from? Cuba? This is a hidden gem. Loved the food. Service was friendly. This is a place for good food, very relaxing and good friends. We went for brunch on Saturday. Three of us ordered the plantain bread, plantain pancakes with carnitas and hash. It was all great! I think we enjoyed just relaxing and taking in the retro style atrium atmosphere. I would give this place five stars if they had better service. But Reading other reviews which commented on how slow and bad the service was ....I take it their food is so good they don't care. Parking was limited and the parking lot was tight. You might need to bring someone to help you navigate out of your parking spot. There is outside and inside seating. And there are four stools at the bar. There is also a bar downstairs but you can't order food down there I thought the food was amazing. Probably one of the few places in San Antonio where I've been surprise that I like the food as much as I did in California. I had the spaghetti squash and it was just perfect. Perhaps slightly on the greasy side but the flavoring was well done. My friends had the seafood chicken salad, and chorizo tacos. They loved their meal. I think we inhaled our food. I wish they had better service and sharper waiters (he kept forgetting our orders and would charge us for things we already paid for) but he was nice and reasonable when you told him you had already paid for something. I like to treat myself to something nice every once in awhile, and for my stay in San Antonio, I decided that dining at Ocho might be nice. It was! The restaurant is lovely with it's glass walls, natural lighting (and beautiful light fixtures for use when the sun goes down), surrounding greenery, and views of the River Walk. I made a phone reservation two weeks prior to my visit, and received a text confirmation, which felt very professional. Once inside, service was prompt and we were politely attended to all evening. Just a note for interested patrons, the chips and salsa are not complementary here (but they are very good so I do recommend ordering them). As far as entrees go, there are meat as well as vegetarian options. The food was tasty all-around, and we enjoyed our very well-made drinks. Coupled with great service, a sparkling clean environment, and a lovely atmosphere, we had a great time. I must add - this is a very aesthetically-pleasing restaurant, so it's a great photo opportunity! I am downright shook that this restaurant doesn't have five stars. It's some of the best food I've ever had -- by far the best out of all the San Antonio restaurants we visited -- and the decor is adorable. You overlook the river in a glass conservatory that feels like being in a greenhouse (in the best possible way), and there are comfy, Victorian-style couches to complete the effect. We ordered what our waitress (who was great and so cool) recommended: the frita cubana, pollo verde y chayotes, maduros and paps confit. It was all perfection. I've now had two bad experiences at Ocho. The first was for my wife's birthday in March 2020 (the week before COVID shut everything down). We had a reservation for 15 or so people and initially refused to seat us as a group, claiming the walkways were being blocked (they weren't). After a few tense moments they agreed to seat the group together. Food was great, so we agreed to let it slide. Until now. We attempted to dine again at Ocho this past week and were turned away at 10am on a Tuesday for a party of four. They would not push two two-top tables together to accommodate us, even though only one other table was occupied in the restaurant. We even called ahead. That was their last chance with us. New to san Antonio and heard this place was a must visit. My BF brought me for my birthday. They stated they were famous for their mojitos. As a cocktail lover, in my opinion, they were just ok. It's a cute, cozy and quaint restaurant with a Cuban vibe! The tables are quite small which is by design, but our server helped us clear table space when possible. I went to Ocho on a recommendation from a friend and I have to say that it is amazing! I went for breakfast during the week and the service was great. The staff was friendly and helpful with answering questions. I tried the pozole de flor and it was so good!!! I wish I would've ordered more to go. It's a vegetarian dish (a vegan option is available). I would never miss pozole with meat if I could have pozole de flor instead. The broth is so flavorful. From what I could tell, it has oregano and lemon juice in it. The pozole was essentially hominy and hibiscus (Jamaica) flowers in place of meat. It also came with a side of tostadas covered with avocado and peas. I also tried the sweet plantains and my friend got huevos divorciados. Everything was good! A Saturday evening out with friends was well spent dining at this restaurant. I love the open glass panes surrounded all around the restaurant. Though it was an elaborately decorated with a sense of high scale dining, everyone from a group of friends dressed casually to dining on a fancy came here. It was dimly lit and the chandeliers really brought out the chic vibe. I loved it for my first time. The menu was limited and I had the Picadillo empanadas and they tasted crispy and good! The waitress rushed us a little so it made us somewhat frazzled during our dining, though it was not that busy. But that did not ruin our experience here. The service at Texas Roadhouse is a league above Ocho. zero greet from the hostess, instead it was a direct question if you had a reservation (yes we did) Sitting options were unassigned and at will by the glass wall (only with reservations). Who knows what the name of the waiter was, rather than the usual service of introducing themselves and asking the cause for the reservation or introducing the menu, it was a direct (what do you want). Who knows if he meant food or drink. we ended up with only drinks and an appetizer by choice. The chips and salsa are what is expected at a high school football game in quality. The waiter got one of the drinks wrong, and blamed it on us. We decided to cut our loss and check out. the extra star is because it was cute. I'm overall more offended by the waste of time this was. My favorite little oasis in San Antonio! I mean... I say that as if I know all of San Antonio really well, and unfortunately I do not. :( But I do know Ocho, and it's the greatest. First of all, the setting is so gorgeous. Look at pictures here on yelp! The main restaurant and bar is in a long, narrow, beautifully bright glass conservatory. You can also sit outside, it's all shady and breezy with ivy covering the walls. While everything is so bright and open, it's still a very intimate, romantic space. I recently ordered the salsa platter which comes with salsa, guacamole, and escabeche. A really rad myriad of flavors and textures, and sooo colorful. Then I had the Caldo Branco, which I think basically translates to "white soup." It's a white bean soup with pork... sounds simple, I know, and it is. It's so amazing! The flavors are immense. I'm a huge fan of soup, and this one was so perfect for a cool fall day overlooking the river walk. I almost asked for extra broth because it was so incredible. Friendly waiters and the kind of leisurely service I love. I hate rushing through a meal, or feeling like I'm being rushed by others. It's so nice to be able to genuinely lounge while you eat! I was so excited to eat here but it turned out to be just "okay" for me. Had the Fideo, French toast, and a Bloody Mary. My friend and I both had floaty things in our water. Wish I would have taken a pic. Great food but extremely slowwwwww service! Took 30 mins to get a Bloody Mary and regular coffee . Also, after waiting 30 mins for our drinks, coffee didn't even come out with sugar/creamer and my Bloody Mary didn't come with a bacon strip. The name on the drink menu was listed as "bacon Bloody Mary", the bacon slice was part of the reason why I ordered it lol. Waiter tried telling me in was inside the drink, we searched for it together, it was not there. Turns out the bar ran out of bacon so the server had to grab it from the kitchen. You can't see much of the river walk if you're not on the patio. Portion sizes are decent, except for the bone marrow, which you don't get much of the actual bone marrow. Ocho is a small, hidden restaurant located next to the Hotel Havana. Upon entering, I noticed it is one of the most well lit restaurants due to the large windows and the timing of the day. I loved the interior decor and atmosphere since it seemed as if I was eating inside a greenhouse. Onto the food, we shared 2 main dishes: the pollo tinga tostado and the frita torta. The pollo tinga came with two tostados topped with slow braised shredded chicken, lettuce, beans, and a dallop of guacamole on top (even though the menu said there's avocado -- there's a BIG difference!!) with a cherry tomato. The chicken was dry and flavorless/tasteless. I would not recommend this dish. The next dish was the frita torta which was basically a hamburger, not sure what I was expecting. The meat was good and salted well, though could have more seasoning. I avoided eating the buns as I did not want to feel too stuffed. Whatever sauce they used on the burger, they basically squirted in a circle instead of spreading it, this seemed too fast-food style for me especially paying $12 for it. The chips that were served as the side were very oily. When it first came out, it was soft -- not very chip-like. As time passed, it became crispier but also chewier, as if it was overcooked. I did enjoy the frita torta more than the pollo tinga tostado because it had more flavor, but I would still not recommend either dishes!! The reason this place gets a 4 star instead of 3 star is due to the interior and atmosphere. I would only come back for that and maybe try the appetizers. Although it was presented prettily my boyfriend had a $35 steak that was probably the toughest steak we've ever had. My salad had so much potential but half of the greens were wilted and the chicken was really dry.It was just a little disappointing. And our wait staff was very nice but they are just not at the professional high quality service level of other hotels downtown. And that is from uniforms to service. OH my beloved Ocho, how could I leave you at 4 stars? In the four years that I've been coming here, I've been nothing short of devoutly appreciative of everything that they have to offer. Lunches: I've had many. That hippy sandwich (black bean hummus)! Those fries! Those chips + salsas and guac! Dinners: I was here for Yelp Spring Break with my colleagues and we had late night dinners here twice, both times with large groups and it was thoroughly incredible! I even broke away from my usual hippie torta one night and opted for the baby bella mushroom tacos. So perfect for a late night tapa. And the Chopped Salad (minus cheese) is an abundance of greens and olives with just the right amount of vinaigrette. Superb. The bar & lounge downstairs... Well, I've gone over my passion for the bar in my previous review. The great thing is that on some nights they do indeed keep it open later so hooray for that! Special nod to the waiter who served us all recently both nights earlier this month. He was so accommodating to our diets (including my vegan diet which isn't so easy when it comes to Latin cuisine) and just all around perfecto. Love. Love. Love. Ocho stars, not cinco! read more

We've gone here a few times and I have to say the food isn't great but we go for the atmosphere and views. Ocho is located in the Havana hotel which is a gorgeous hotel with antique decor. Ocho is absolutely beautiful and vibrant with blue. It is on the San Antonio river downtown, however you don't feel like your in the hustle and bustle with tourists downtown. For us it feels like we are transported to a small tropical world. For this reason we go to Ocho. Now about the food....going to a Cuban inspired restaurant, I would expect the Cuban flavors to shine. This isnt the case. The Cuban sandwich is ok and edible but nothing like what you would expect for a true Cuban sandwich. The tostones were heavily salted to the point that I didn't even eat them. I've also had the black bean torta and again black beans were bland and was just ok but nothing worth trying again. I will say the ceviche was very good as well as the banana French toast which is pretty much all I order now when I go there. I'd say at least stop by for a drink but be cautious of what you order. read more

It was "Ocho" good! Ocho offered a respite, from days of activities while attending Yelp Spring Break, San Antonio! We enjoyed one breakfast, a lunch, a dinner and an evening snack upon check in on the night we arrived. Ocho is conveniently located in the Hotel Havana and they enjoy a direct river front view. Located at one end of the Riverwalk one can walk, jog or run or just watch others do so while dining. We loved the convenience of room service on our trip! We chowed on Havana Papas Bravas and a Salsa Platter and indulged on a Beef Tenderloin and a Pollo A La Plancha Plate (the rosemary roasted potatoes had me on my knees...I would come back for more)! We sat on the Riverwalk with our dog one morning and selected the Huevos and Chorizo breakfast plate, served with fried plantains! In most cases, the food didn't look as good as it tasted. A little work on presentation and I would rate "Cinco" in stars. A bright and beautifully decorated lounge located in downtown. My fiancé and I were house hunting in San Antonio and I had come across this place while looking online. The decor and the view made it a must to visit. We decided to try it out as a date night our first night in town. The view is great since it's alongside the river and provides views and some air. I ordered a margarita and my fiancé ordered a drink, but didn't like it since it was too much fruit and barely any alcohol. I was very pleased with my drink, however. The food was average. It wasn't terrible, but it just wasn't worth the price that you paid for it. We ordered the chorizo cob queso as an appetizer and it was served with flour tortillas - it was great! I ordered the trout with saffron rice. The shrimp and poblano cream sauce was a great touch to add flavor to the dish. Like I stated earlier, food was good - just not worth the price you pay. Took the wife here for her birthday dinner. We made the mistake of going somewhere before for happy hour and had too many apps, but we were wary enough at Ocho for happy hour. Ordered the chorizo Mac and cheese, fresh chicharonnes and their huitlacochoe black bean quesadillas. To start, the chicharonnes came out first and were still crackling they were so fresh! Great crunch and flavor and had just a touch of queso fresco on top. Chorizo Mac and cheese had great flavor, not too overpowering with the chorizo and was topped with a sunny side egg. And cheezy, served with bread. My only complaint was it was very funny from the cheese not congealing with the noodles. The egg was a very nice touch. Made it work by scooping it onto the bread, but could've been done better. The quesadillas had good flavor and different being bean and cheese. Not too bad, but could've used more cheese. For such a beautiful restaurant the staffs attitudes are so ugly. My reservation change from 3 to 4, after a lot of attitude from the host we where moved from an indoor reservation to an outdoor, we where seated at a dirty table. We proceeded to order the Mamosa kit, and the server loudly popped the bottle and then did not serve any of the bubbles. I have never been to a restaurant where the server does not serve you the wine. We were pressured and rushed into making a food order and we're given sass when it asking simple questions about the menu. In the 30 minutes were sitting outside the outdoor areas smelled like vomit and I got 20+ mosquito bites.
