Being Jewish I have high standards when it comes to matzoh ball soup. While this soup wasn't as good as grandma's it was still pretty good! A decent sized matzoh ball also! For my dinner I chose a chicken Caesar wrap. It was good! It wasn't over dressed with Caesar dressing. It was more of a light Caesar, which I prefer. I was only able to eat half as I got full. The fries were good as well. Nice and crispy...just the way I like them. My boyfriend got a pizza burger deluxe. He enjoyed it. He said it was much better, cheaper and twice the size of the burger he got last weekend. His burger deluxe came with fries and onion rings. The onion rings had a sweet taste to them. Packed house in a Friday night. Place is decorated to the nines for Easter with bunnies and eggs all over the place. Seated immediately at a good sized booth with ice water, rolls, and breadsticks quickly following. Waitress promptly took order We both had omelets for dinner. Food came out quickly and hot. This place was great. It was recommended to me by a friend when I was visiting east Islip with my kids. The decor was amazing for Halloween and I plan on taking my kids back around Christmas. The workers were very friendly and even sat us in an area where my kids could be themselves without disturbing other patrons. The food was great and had plenty of things to choose from. Went to the Oconee diner for brunch with 3 other people. Besides the festive decorations, the service is excellent. This is your typical diner with over the top added decorations to create a festive feel no matter what time of year. The food is cooked to order and come out quickly. They have some classics but with some interesting twists like an omelettes with asparagus, pastrami, and/or artichoke hearts. They are on top of filling your coffee and they are not stingy with the napkins. The parking lot is on the smaller side but even at the busiest times I haven't waited long to find a spot. The menu is insanely large which is often a bad sign, but everything we ordered was awesome! Gorgeous thick French toast and sausage, scratch home fries, scratch egg salad and Cole slaw. Hello, we're in between viewings during a wake. Can you accommodate 14 people? Owner, yes. Ok we'll be there in 5 to 10 minutes. We walk in and the tables were all set up, even with bread and butter. Fantastic staff, Fantastic fast service. Qe never lacked anything and staff was always thinking ahead and bringing drink refills before we even knew our glass was near empty.. Our primary waitress was Dawn, did I tell you she was Fantastic? And yes the food was fantastic too. Large portions too. We we're all gifted coleslaw, pickles and rice pudding. I have no idea why this place has such high reviews, but I've been here twice, first time a few years ago, and second time a few weeks ago, I left so disappointed. Either if it's wings I ordered the first time being so dry and having no flavor, my friend ordered a chicken parm and it was barely cooked properly, cheese was still whole and unmelted, this time we both got burgers and it was bland and unflavorful, we didn't even order anything crazy, just cheese burger deluxes, so it comes with lettuce, tomato, and onion, none of it saved this meal. I will say though I do like the place for how it looks, it's a fun looking place and the people there seem nice and friendly, but I don't know why every time I come here the food leaves so much more to be desired. read more

This diner is a staple in our little family. We don't live on Long Island; however, every time we come, we never miss an opportunity to tear this place up. [Side note: If you go on the weekend, try to get a reservation, especially if your party is large]. The menu is huge and loaded with tasty treats, from breakfast to dinner they have it all and can customize any order. My favorite is the challah bread French toast and sausage. It's two slices of 1.25-inch-thick toast with two fat sausage links. If you think it's not enough food, you're wrong. I once thought the same as you and was sadly mistaken. The kid's silver dollar pancake breakfast is loaded with a mound of pancakes; however, the waffle breakfast might leave one wanting more if you're partial to a larger breakfast. The ambiance is incredible. During the Christmas season, this place is sensory overload but in a good way. Beautiful decorations adorn the walls, ceiling, and tables. Additionally, the staff is on it. You will see them zooming all over the place, slinging orders, and filling coffee cups. If they are fast with you, don't feel rushed or irritated, they are just trying to perform their duty efficiently. I honestly can't say enough good about this place. OK, normally I would not do this. I arrived tonight at the diner with a friend to just have soup.. We turned away menus, because we had no intention of getting regular food. On the table tent there was an appetizer menu . I asked if the chicken fingers came with fries that were listed for $13.95. I was told yes upon receiving the final bill for four small chicken fingers and a plate of greasy fries that obviously were sitting I didn't finish 1/2 too oily I was charged $19. .. I mean are u kidding me !! I've been to the diner multiple times and for the most part it's always been a good experience. It's been a staple in our neighborhood forever. I am not sure why this place gets such great reviews because the food was mediocre at best. Had a crawling ant on my menu while trying to order (seeing bugs at my table while eating is not pleasant). There was a piece of hard plastic in my little girl's Mac n Cheese. The pastrami in the pastrami sandwich was so fatty it was inedible. Onion rings had a super doughy thick batter. Omelette was tasteless. I can go on further but overall a huge disappointment. I was really excited to come here given the decor and all, which was very festive. The staff and waitress are all nice and wonderful so that was only plus. With all of this, I was surprised a manager never came by to acknowledge any of this experience. My husband and I decided to go to Oconee instead of our normal place. what a disappointment. Not only did the waitress get my order wrong (I understand these things happen) but we ordered a side of macaroni and cheese to go. As we were paying I took it out of the bag. it literally looked like a large scoop of Kraft Mac and Cheese. They charged $13! When I questioned them they told me that was a kids meal. I looked at the menu when we got in the car and a 'kids meal' says it comes with a drink and a dessert, both of which we didn't want but it was never offered by the waitress or the manager. When I called he told me that's only offered to people sitting and eating. WHAT! We just spent an hour sitting there and eating dinner. He recognized that this was not right and offered me a free Mac and cheese when I came back. We will never return. Seems like the place has changed a bit over the years. Its a shame that a small apology or a small token to rectify this when I was in the diner would have made all the difference. The decorations are outrageous. Every holiday the place is festooned from floor to ceiling. Unfortunately, you can't eat them. And I go to a diner mainly for the food. Ordered a basic cheeseburger. Turned out to be a patty I could pick up at the local supermarket. Oversalted French fries, very sweet onion rings. Not impressed at all. Many items on the menu are tipping the scale at $20 and more. Wow, delicious. We just moved to Bay Shore & have passed this diner a handful of times. We decided that we were going to try this out for dinner. It was decorated in Red White & Blue, and our waitress let us know it's like this from Memorial Day to September 11th. So awesome! She also let us know they do decorate the whole diner for each holiday, St Paddy's, Halloween & Christmas. We can't wait to check those out as well. We ordered mozzarella sticks as a starter and they were very good. I had ordered the Buffalo chicken wrap (added cheddar) while my fiancé ordered the steak quesadilla (added avocado onions and peppers). I ordered it medium but it came out closer to mid-rare and even rare towards the center. It was a little mushy. The fries were nothing special. They were thin and barely seasoned. I prefer a nice thick steak fry at a diner. The onion rings were the biggest let down. They had a thick and soft batter that tasted almost like a zeppole. No crisp and no salt. The service and atmosphere are both great but don't expect anything special from the food. Would have been a 2/5 rating if it wasn't for the decor. read more

Finally made the trip to Oconee to see what the fuss was all about and now I can see why! Two days after Christmas and lots of people had off from work so at 11 am on a Thursday they were PACKED but we were seated right away. Oconee was decked out to the hilt with Christmas decor and holiday music and it felt so nice and cozy. My SO and I decided to get a crock of French onion soup to share, which was a good call because it was huge but also VERY good. We also decided to share an open-faced Reuben with pastrami. Another good call because it was huge and between the two of us we still had leftovers. The pastrami was perfect and the toasted rye bread underneath the kraut and meat and cheese absorbed all the goodness. The fries were even good, nice and crisp. My bf ordered a Bloody Mary that was about $10 just meh. But then again we were at a diner so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Even though it was a 30 minute drive for us we will definitely return as it's one of the better diners I've been to. I have been coming to this place for more than 30 years. Through two ownerships and through all-natural disasters. Shootings of their windows by disgruntled employees, and the pandemic. I remember when they were open 24 hours. I love the management and the staff. I bring my family here every year. I get it that prices go up and it shows here. Their prices are like a 5-star restaurant yet they are a diner. I love that they celebrate every holiday and do it with gusto. My peeve is the right-wing feeling from all the hidden political agendas, such as the Fox News blasting in the background and pictures of their political leanings. I get it. You are catering to a right-wing community but give it a break and meet folks in the middle of the road. Include the whole community and don't make a great experience dimmed by your political point of view. I will continue to support them but guys give it a break.
