Shampoo was great. Very thorough but when the woman doing the wash began to came through she was basically trying to separate my scalp from my head. Then when I got my hair straightened after being under the dryer on high heat for so long I got burned badly on my face (there was a sizzle - ouch!) I did get a great trim here. Ghetto, Ghetto, Ghetto!!!!! This is not a professional hair salon. No customer service manners or etiquette. Do not bother coming here. Odalis the owner and her staff are as ghetto as they can get. They have a conflicting and argumentative personality with their customers. I usually take the time to check reviews first but sometimes I do not have the time and jump blindly into the experience. On my only 3 visits trying this place: I requested a specific haircut and explain myself clearly. Odalis the "star hairdresser" an owner was not able to achieve not even a satisfactory result and did not provide me with what I requested. I believe she has: 1- Lack of experience as a hairdresser in every aspect. 2- Lack of style and techniques at the moment of haircutting. 3- No sense of style. 4- Lack of experience drying and taking care your hair and scalp properly ( I was burned twice because they use the dryer too hot). She is to amateur. 5- She/They do not pursue for the customer satisfaction and happiness by doing what the customer is requesting her to do. 6- She has an anger management issue. She is angry and takes things too personally when you are just talking to her calmly and giving her constructive feedback. Also, her hairdressers argue between them in front of all customers and they also have the habit of lashing back with criticizing to the customer when you want to give them a suggestion or any simple direction. At one point, I asked her nicely to use a professional hairbrush that I carry with me, I use the excuse that it will give me a nicer finishing texture but honestly is because her hairbrushes are in bad shape, burn and also they do not look well sanitize. She/They never take the chance to empathize with me and try, she/they only engage themselves in arguing and lashing back to me in front of all her customers. Also, they are not organized they have a time management issue. Prepare yourself for your wash/dry service request a minimum of 3 hours from the moment that you arrive to the moment that they will start drying your hair. Honestly, don't bother. read more

Don't go to this place seriously at least don't get highlights. I let Odalis highlight my hair and thank goodness I only let her do the front. My freaking hair was so beautiful and she destroyed my hair. My whole front I have so much breakage. I have to start all over again. And the bad thing about it is I paid all this money to get my hair broken off. I trusted her to do my highlights and she really screwed up. I guess she's not good with working with African-American hair as far as putting highlights in there because I know my hair is so much breakage in the front I could just cry well, I did cry. read more

She said blow outs were 45 then She charged me 65 just because my hair was shedding... once the cut was added and I gave the assistant and stylist $5 tip each. I spent $95 to get a standard Dominican blow out. She didn't oil my scalp and scraped my middle part and edges with the comb(weird right) so bad there was a lot of dandruff. I got so frustrated with everyone asking about the dandruff I washed it out next day just to find my natural curls(very tight) were barely visible. Please note: I'm black and German with shoulder length hair and I don't have a dandruff issue usually. Don't go here they are gonna over charge you and waste 3 hours of your life over a classic Dominican blow out. And charge you as much as possible!! read more

This salon is nice and cozy but most of all they do great hair. Odalis is always front & center and makes sure each customer leaves happy! Her staff is less friendly but they all do great hair! Went for the very first time today, they treat you like family! My blowout came out exactly like the picture I showed the stylist, will be coming back again. However I will be washing and deep conditioning before coming in moving forward to save me A LOT of time. They washed my hair/deep conditioned, put me under the dryer for 30 mins then rinsed my hair and put me under the dryer again for another 30 mins. I felt like it was way too much heat and they didn't put heat protectant until she started blow drying. I walked in today at 11:35. By 12:00 I was washed, conditioned, rolled and under the dryer. My hair was washed 4times and my scalp thoroughly and gently scrubbed. My hair was rolled tightly. I AM IN LOVE already. They also have these amazing face and ear protectors that keep ALL of the dryer heat on your hair. Worst customer service ever. I went in for relaxer, after removing my braids, so my hair was thick and coarse. The lady who was to condition my scalp, made me cry. She pulled my hair so hard. I asked her politely, could please be gentle. She ignored me, and continued to pull my scalp of my skull. I asked again please be gentle, she handed me the comb, and she walked away. Very Rude and poor customer service. I will never ever return to this salon. The Owner is a nice lady, but she needs to work on her employee, and teach them how every customer is important, and should be treated with respect and care. I've been going to Odalis Hair Salon for a few years now, and have always had the best service and care. My hair has never been healthier and I've learned how to take good care of my hair at home. Odalis, Alta and the rest of the staff are always very polite, courteous and professional, and the salon is beautiful and clean. This a very busy and popular salon, so if you have time constraints, let them know when you sign in. When I know I need to be in and out in a certain amount of time, I choose a day (like Monday or Wednesday) when they're not as busy, but I always let Odalis or Alta know, and she does everything she can to get me out when I need to be out. Never going to this place EVER AGAIN. The last time I went I got a perm and I clearly paid $75. I go in there today and they said I didn't pay that and I only paid $45. I think I would clearly remember if I only paid 45 fucking dollars. She couldn't even offer me prove of when I only paid $45. The only prove she had was that one of the workers said it was be. My experience was absolutely dreadful. I wasn't greeted when I walked in and was simply told to go to the back. The female who washed and set my hair was very harsh. I like my hair a little curly on the end so when setting I tend to opt for the yellow, purple, or sometimes red rollers which are all medium sized. The same female insisted on using large rollers and told me not to worry. She said the stylist would curl my hair with a curling iron afterwards. I told her I frequent Dominican salons and get the same thing ALL the time. She says, " that is not how we do it here." So let me get the straight, I am going to sit under the heated dryer, get a blow out with the hot as hell hand dryer, and then the "stylist" is going to add more heat to re-curl my hair with a curling iron?! I could tell the female was simply too lazy to take the time to use smaller rollers instead she set my hair in large rollers. I was prepared to wear my hair straight even before I saw the results. I was already irritated at this point but decided to stay because I was pressed for time. Side bar, I have been natural since 07. I am also mixed so my hair is thick, long, and curly/ wavy. Okay so she continues to set my hair. I simply asked her to re-wet the other side of my hair with a spray bottle before she started yanking the comb through my tresses. She then catches another attitude. She tells me it is not even dry. In my head I am thinking, " I honestly don't want you yanking my hair out any more so just get the damn water bottle!" She decides not to go back and forth with me and gets a water bottle. She then proceeds to drench my hair and even sprays water in my face. She is also slamming stuff at this point might I add. Once I got to the stylist's chair my hair was flat. She tried to add body and more curls I guess by adding an insane amount of heat and rolling my hair around the brush more than usual. She even added spritz to my hair which was the last straw for me. A Dominican blowout normally lasts me about a week. My hair still has curls, body, and my roots are still insanely straight. Instead my roots are puffy and my hair is hard from all the heat/ spritz the very next day. Not to mention my scalp is sore ( I am not tender headed) from all the tugging, pulling, and direct heat application from the hand blow dryer. Some Dominican Hair Salons should just stop advertising "natural hair styling" in the DMV. They are utterly impatient and simply do not know how to or even want to manage natural hair. My 8 year old niece had a horrible time The woman was very short with her didn't make her feel comfortable ,this woman washed her hair which made her shirt really wet and didn't even give her a towel than made her sit there while she watched another child get their hair done ... one of the ladies felt bad for her and dried her and put an extra towel around her head. I religously went here for 4 years before moving to Fla., but now that I'm back in the DMV I will be continuing my mecca of a trip (an hour away by metro/bus) to this salon for my wash & sets. I brought my daughter here a couple times over the past year and I've also had my hair done at the salon twice now and will continue to come. Im addicted! I'm sorry for the ladies that had bad experiences here because our experience has been nothing but amazing! The ladies are friendly and if ever we felt something was too rough, too hot, etc. they were happy to make adjustments. Odali does my hair and she's great!! I been going here quite often. It really isn't as bad as all the reviews. I'm surprise the ratings are so low. Yes, it is true that most of them do not speak english. All I get is a blow out and that is it. I usually bring my own hair products such as keracare conditioner and shampoo. They are a little more gentle on my hair then some shops. For the price ($35.00), I can't really complain lol. I think they do a good job. For some of the reviewers, I wouldn't necessarily go to a shop for the first time to get my hair cut, perm, colored, etc. I have my beautician for all of that whom I been going to for years. She understands that i am customer and treats me as i expect to be treated,and goes out of her way checking on my daughter and asking if she is ok, adjusting her seat so she can use her kindle!is she sweet or what? She is now getting her hair straightened and trimmed.again what a world of difference. She is taking her time and treating my daughter like the princess she is. I was hesitant to go as I already have a stylist and being that I am an African American woman with super blonde hair, you have to be careful who you let do your hair.. but I really needed my blonde retouched and my stylist wasn't available. I did some research and found this place close by, it was expensive ($175) as any two process color would be but it was absolutely wonderful. She did a phenomenal job on my color. The only downside was that I was there for over 4 hours but again, I was more than happy with Odalis' treatment of my hair and I did have a two process color service. The color is the best blonde I've ever had and I've been blonde for 9 years! I will continue to go to this salon. Also, she trimmed my hair for free because I had already paid but my hair needed it. I almost didn't try this place because another reviewer suggested (irresponsibly, IMO) that white customers aren't welcome. That was not my experience at all. Maybe that's because I didn't walk in just before closing time without an appointment - Duh! Odali did my hair and she was just as nice as can be. I have very thick, wiry hair and wanted to see what a Dominican blowout was like. My hair came out soft, smooth, and shiny. I think the rollers work better on longer hair, and at first my style was too "bouffant" for my taste, but when I got home I just finger-combed it and it was fine. The place itself is very nice and clean. I did feel shy, not being Dominican (and being older; the clientele seem to be mostly younger women), but so what. I love how my hair feels. Odalis does a great job!! You walk in and they wash your hair and add conditioner. You then sit under the dryer with the conditioner in your hair for about 20 minutes. Then they wash the conditioner out and place rollers in your hair. They place a hair net and ear covers before placing you in the dryer for about an hour. Once your hair is dry, the rollers are moved and your hair is cut, blow dried, flat ironed. My hair looks amazingly shiny and healthy every time. The wait on weekends can be long but the last time I went I arrived at 4:30 on a Thursday and did not have to wait. The ladies are very friendly. read more

I went here to try to get my hair done and I had actually called in ahead of time to get the price. I didn't mention that i was necessarily coming in but you would think if the place wanted business that they would ask or something. So I got there within 15 minutes of calling at 5:00 pm. When I walked in no one really greeted me so I said hi and that I'd like the roller set and blow out. She told me they were closed. Well that struck me by surprise because the door was still unlocked and people were going in and out. Also I turned around and saw on the door that their closing time was 5:30. I told her that I had just called and no one had said anything about closing. She told me to hold on and ignored me for about 2 minutes. Then she told me that they take their last appt at 3:30. That sounds like a bunch of bs to me because usually these places accept walk ins until the closing time. Now I am not racist at all but I know what tendencies people have and by the way the lady acted I have a sneaking suspicion that this woman was being lazy and didn't want to service me because I am white. I think that is unnacceptable because I too have frizzy, mixed hair and deserve the loyalty she gives the rest of her clientele. I will NEVER go there. No service=Poor service. read more

This salon is a "NO GO". I went to this shop in hopes of finding a salon closer to home. It seems like I will continue to make my usual 40 minute drive to my original shop. After reading the negative reviews, I thought I would give the shop a try myself. When I first arrived, things started off well. I was immediately sent to the back to get my hair washed. It goes down from here: The woman who washed my hair did not greet me or make eye contact. I heard her say "I am ready" but had no idea if she was talking to, so I had to ask (STRIKE 1). She put me under the dryer and clocked out! After my hair had dried, I sat there wondering who would finish my hair. I had to go and ask someone to finish my hair. I tried to explain to the replacement stylist the type of cut I wanted. I am all for different cultures gaining employment in the U.S, but if you cannot understand English, you should not be working in an environment where you need to understand specific details. Another lady came to translate what I was saying but she barely understood either. They began to speak Spanish and all the stylists began to give me a look of irritation. (STRIKE 2). So the owner/manager came over to cut my hair, but when I tried to explain to her the type of cut I wanted, she had the nerve to get an attitude and say she knows what I want. Clearly she didn't, because a bob cut and layers are 2 totally different styles! (STRIKE 3). I'm a pro when it comes to blowouts. I am very big on keeping my hair healthy. One thing I did not like about this salon's technique is the way they blowout your hair, then flat iron it. No way! (STRIKE 4). They also did not bother to use a heat protectant. She also put some type of alcohol based product on my roots prior to the blowout, then had the nerve to tell me my hair was dry. WHAT! (STRIKE 5). Then this pathetic stylist gets the comb tangled in my hair and gave me a " I could care less if that hurt" look. (STRIKE 6) I am so over this shop. I will never be returning.
