Do not take your dog to this training facility. My dog became sick after 4 days, we had to cut the training short and bring her home. She tested positive for multiple viruses : Bordetella Canine Adenovirus Canine Herpesvirus Canine Respiratory Coronavirus Mycoplasma My dog was fully vaccinated before she started her training, but it's obvious they have a serious problem with a facility not being thoroughly sanitized. Upon picking up our sick dog, they collected a new recruit, into the vehicle from where my dog was just sitting. Whoever you are, I suspect you will now have a sick dog. We have 2 other dogs at home, and I'm not extremely concerned about their health. Advice to Matt - clean up your facility before you take on more clients. It's not fair to these animals and their owners. I understand you're a small business, but taking money from people when you know you have sick dogs around, that's not good for anyone. Starting from the very beginning, Matt Biscof, the owner of Off Leash K9 Training Bay Area, as well as his staff, were very accommodating, and helped us to resolve some challenging situation with dates of training at the very end of the year. Both Matt and his trainers are very experienced, open for the conversation with customers, and happily answered our question regarding all aspects of the training, and daily schedule for the dog. One of the most attractive things with this training was daily reports the trainer and the team were sending to us. The report included dog's health condition, comments from the trainer what our puppy did and learned at that day, images and videos captured during the training. I have 2 crazy 2 year old rescue litter mate chihuahua mix puppies, Shimmy and Shayna who were a handful. Before Off Leash K9, I trained them with one dog trainer for 5 sessions and they got the basics of sit, down and come, but only if they were rewarded with food and only in the house where they felt comfortable. They were scared and distracted outside of the house and spooked by normal outdoor noises like traffic or leaf blowers. Trying to take them for a walk was reminiscent of a dog sled mushing contest. They took me for a walk/drag around the neighborhood, not the other way around! I took them to group training and we were booted out of the class because they were intimidated by the other dogs and distracted by the activity and noise. I tried doggie daycare to get them socialized, but the only thing that changed was the balance in my checking account. It was difficult to have company over because the pups would bark the whole time and run away if strangers approached. Potty training was spotty (pun intended) with several accidents each week, especially in the winter. I was at my wits end and a colleague told me about the success her son had with Off Leash K9, so I did some research and found they had a great reputation. I talked with Matt on the phone for quite awhile and it was obvious he knows his stuff and loves dogs. So, I decided to do it. Our 1 year old Cocker Spaniel just completed his two week board and train with Matt and Jourdan. He came back a different dog! He no longer jumps on people and he doesn't run out the front door anymore. He still tests us from time to time, but following the home part of the program is working really well. **You will still need to work with your dog, but it is easy to fit into a busy life when the dog is already familiar with what you're asking. So far, I've taken him around my neighborhood, to the park, Home Depot, and Kohl's (inside to do an Amazon return). I've received so many compliments about his behavior. Overall the service with this organization is poor. They were great service when I was inquiring with them and once I gave them my deposit I stopped hearing from them and took multiple tries to reach them. Though I was suspect of them I decided to get my puppy trained. It turned to be a poor choice as after the training my pup didnt really get any better. The trainer hardly responded via text, emails, or phone calls unless I kept hounding her. My pup really did not get trained after talking to a number people about them they basically work with as many dogs as they can and kennel up the rest of them. So I think my pup was trained 2-3 hours a day and then locked up in kennel cage for the rest of the 24 hours. After I got my pup back I tried to get the lifetime guaranteed training from them which took a lot of back and forth. Overall this didn't help and I had to find another service provider. I showed picks of my pup acting up and nip marks etc. They didn't respond. Note they use negative reinforcement training where one shocks the dog to get them to do what you want. Not a good way to go. Overall these guys are not good what they do and exploit dogs by having them in kennels while they train as many dogs as possible. The main owner is somewhere in the middle of the country so you're dealing w franchisees who probably could care less about the customer and shall I say puppy experience. I don't recommend them and a number training professionals stated to stay away from. They have a number different names and sites they use instead of one brand which is also suspect sign. read more

These people do not know how to train or appropriately care for dogs. One of our dogs was sent to them two years ago for training and she is still traumatised by what they did to her. For starters they "trained" her to walk better by using a prong collar which they failed to properly hide under other collars when they sent us update videos. The dog ended up with a laceration on her neck which they claimed was treated by staff. It was not and had been left to bleed for hours and matted her fur. They also left her in a locked car alone while a staff member when inside a store to deal with another customer. For over 15 minutes a family member of mine stood outside of their locked van waiting to pick our dog up and could not reach anyone despite repeated phone calls. They also bully and threaten clients when a bad review is posted. My family members were threatened and harassed when I posted a review two years ago & would not stop until the review I was taken down. I work in the veterinary field and I HIGHLY suggest you look elsewhere for a dog trainer/boarding company. read more

This is not a review debunking this company's quality of dog training because I never got that far but Just because their website says they are the number one dog trainers in the bay area, and because Ryan Reynolds endorses them does not make it true. The reason for this review is to debunk their consumer trap of a business model. They require a deposit up front behind a two month waiting period. During their consultation, they tell you everything that you want to hear about how good they are but do not consult you to help you along in the process and to specify particulars in their sign up form that may alter your decision to use them, and never get around to mention that your 500 dollar deposit is non refundable should you decide to cancel or go with another trainer who is 200 miles closer and can take your dog immediately. Once you sign their form to hold your place in line, they do not take checks, cards, or any other payment than your personal bank account. I imagine this is because once the money is withdrawn, there are no means of getting back your deposit such as you could with a credit card company or to cancel a check. They don't go over the contract with you and they should so idiots like me who are excited to find training for their disobedient, cushion shredding, plant eating, non listenin animal, will not blindly sign a form without reading the small print. Knowing my deposit will be kept would seem like an incentive for people to follow through with their agreement, however plans can change instantly and for us they did. I found out from one of their employees that over 20 people cancelled on them this month. That is a $10,000 dollar bonus for them doing NOTHING. Our world has changed exponentially, Pure and undefiled customer service is more difficult to find than Jimmy Hoffa. read more

I DO NOT recommend this company for training your dog. I'm writing this review because I was incredibly disheartened by the process and the results of this school. This school uses an E-Collar. I wasn't aware that I would be handed off the Ecollar after training to use on my dog. I was under the impression that it was just being used to redirect his barking. I found out after I dropped him off that the Ecollar IS the training. Even though this collar doesn't hurt the dog, it seems that it teaches them to obey through something they really dislike so it comes from a place of discomfort and fear more than discipline, repetition and reward. I noticed that when my dog came home, the sound of his bark seemed horse. I have a Scottish Terrier with a tiny neck. The device consistently slips down his neck to his throat which is not where the device should be placed or rest. It's too big for his neck. If I tighten the collar to where it wouldn't slip, I can't fit 2 fingers under it (what they recommend) and the prongs go far into his neck. I'm curious if this sliding down and him being zapped on his throat repeatedly didn't have something to do with his voice being off. As far as how they take care of their customers, it was an unpleasant and clunky experience for me ranging from them not honoring what they said they would do, having a poor experience of not feeling like I was being set up properly with communication, poor return communications, feeling like my dog was handed off at the end is a rushed state (to a point I don't remember 50% of what they said), being 30 minutes late for the drop off, leaving the food I made for my dog for his first day still in the container and left in my bag for 2 weeks to rot (did he get fed that day because the rest of his Ollie's food was frozen and not ready to give to him?) to losing my dog's harness (and they didn't return my communication in relation to it). I'm curious if how well they took care of me is an indicator of how well they took car of my dog? My dog also came back super skinny and I provided extra food for him. To sum it all up, the program just didn't work. My dog still barks like crazy when he is in crowds of people. What he learned was to be afraid of the Ecollar. He did learn his name, how to sit and heel pretty well which is nice, but not worth $2800. I recommend you ask detailed questions, request to see their facility and keep an eye on your dog when he comes home to see if his behaviors have altered. read more

I booked my Roxy for a Board and Train this coming September and I was given a few basic lessons before this date, so I booked one this weekend. I really didn't know what to expect, to my surprise it was a game changer in just a short time. Brandon was the trainer and he was awesome! Roxy is a 7 month old Labrador Retriever. She is smart as a whip but oh so willful as ever! As a younger pup she learned commands quickly and as long as I had a treat she may listen. She eats everything in her path, bites me during play, runs and can pounce on me to tell me to keep playing, she's 53 lbs now and at running force she can bulldoze you down. She was a handful driving her to the meeting place, it was a 21 mile trip and she was a handful to manage just to get her there barking and wanting my attention as I was driving, I thought I would have to pull over to calm her down. I met Brandon at the expected meeting place. He was friendly and Roxy took to him immediately. Brandon explained to me that she just needed some boundaries. I couldn't believe how quickly she learned these new skills with Brandon. Now to train the owner! I'm looking forward to working more with "Off the Leash" and having a well behaved dog that will listen not only because of that but to also to keep her safe from situations that could harm her if she didn't.
