I wish I had found Off The Leash first because it would have saved me thousands of dollars and a lot of frustration. Before Ronnie came here, I had already paid, the Same Money for another board,and, train program through Dog Wise. Ronnie already knew her basic obedience commands before she went. We hired them because we needed help with her resource guarding and wanted her exposed to real, life situations and people. She came home knowing how to "place" on a cot, but that was about it. I tried to convince myself it was worth it, but in my heart I never felt like she was getting worked with every day. I received very few basic train videos or updates during her stay, and honestly, it felt more like she spent her time in a kennel than in training. She even came home without her personalized collar and leash. We did not receive any of the follow up sessions promised. I also spent a lot of money on private one-on-one lessons with another trainer through Sit Means Sit. Four 50-minute sessions later, I still wasn't getting the help Ronnie really needed. I spoke with two other companies that turned Ronnie down because of the outcome from Dog wise. Then we found Off The Leash. From the very beginning, it has been a completely different experience. Ronnie bonded with her trainer Mark almost immediately, and you can see how much he genuinely care about her. Every single day I get videos, updates, and a summary of exactly what they worked on, how Ronnie did, what they're building on next, and what I need to know when she comes home. I never have to wonder what's happening because they keep me involved every step of the way. The biggest difference has been the real-world training. Ronnie isn't just learning commands in a building. She's going on field trips to busy stores like Lowe's, pet stores, sporting goods stores, parks, and other places where there are real distractions. She's learning how to be confident and how to make good choices in everyday situations. I also love seeing videos of her in mark's home interacting with his family. Watching Ronnie become more relaxed, more social, and more confident has meant so much to me. As someone who works full time, travels for work, and is also a full-time caregiver, I simply don't have the time to give Ronnie this kind of daily exposure and consistency. That's exactly why I chose a board, and, train program, and this is the first time I truly feel like I'm getting what I paid for. I'm actually excited for the leash handover because I know they're going to teach me how to continue everything Ronnie has learned. They've made me part of the process instead of making me feel like someone waiting on the sidelines. If you're looking for a trainer, ask questions. Ask how often you'll get updates. Ask to see training videos. Ask how much real world exposure your dog will get. For me, Off The Leash has restored my confidence in professional dog training. Ryan went above and beyond what we expected. Our dog Dell has anxiety issues, neck sensitivity a bit of a bitting problem. In the sessions before the 2 week board and train he worked with Dell within Dell's comfort zone. He made sure to establish a comfortable working relationship with our dog before taking him to board training. Before working with Ryan we could not easy change Dell's collar. I had no trust in what he would do in active busy situations. Baby's and children terrified me on our walks. Dell snapped quickly. I know it only takes a second for a bite reaction. I was apprehensive of e collar training at first. However, I knew it was something or put him down. Since Dell's board and train Dell wants to work though tasks. We have a much clearer picture of what we have to do as parents. We have been taught as well as our dog. Dell is able to navigate crazy busy envirnments on task. This includes children reaching out at him randomly, other dogs sniffing and being in crowds. We are thankful to have tools we need to live and love our life with our Dell. Thank-you Ryan read more

To start, I was pleased with the actual trainer, Kymberlie - she was wonderfully responsive and very kind. I have no problem with Kymberlie's amazing dedication to her work! However, after going through the entire training (and having taken a lot of training classes over the years myself), I am a bit bothered by the methods/results of the company as a whole. I enrolled my Doberman, Kingsley, in k9 Off Leash training because he is overly anxious and can be reactive to other dogs. I explained that his reactivity is only emergent when he is put in uncomfortable situations - i.e., a cat hisses at him. A dog barks at him aggressively (first). Dogs are running along a fence. Etc. I was told these issues would be addressed prior to enrollment, but only after a full week in training when I saw he was only doing sit/down/heel (which he knows, though heel I was only in the process of training him on) and place, I was told they can't put him in an uncomfortable situation due to liability. While I do understand that, I wish this was conveyed before I spent over $2k on a board and train to teach him things I am capable of teaching him. Unfortunately they werent even able to work on his fence reactivity..so all those issues he had before training are still unresolved. Furthermore, King had quite a few raw spots/wounds on his hind legs and feet (at least 2-3 per side). This is of no fault to Kymberlie, who said she had been treating them, but I'm a bit bothered by the fact that I was not notified that he was getting sores. I assume he was biting at himself from anxiety, which has not been an issue in the past but I can presume he was under immense stress being away from home and under training. Again, I understand this, but wish I was kept in the loop. Lastly, the overall method of training I feel is over the top. I wasn't aware how heavily this training method relied upon the e-collar. I was always personally trained to use an e-collar for off leash only, once a dog knows a command and needs a quick reminder if he is distracted and not listening. Unfortunately Off Leash really overuses the e-collar...that's how they get quick results in two weeks, but in my opinion it isn't appropriate to zap a dog over and over and over and over in order to teach them. Most especially for a dog with very high baseline anxiety. My boyfriend's dog, an 8 month old shepherd that also went through the training, certainly listens better but now cowers...he's just a puppy. He shouldn't live in fear of being zapped. While it is advocated as a muscle stimulator, it IS painful, especially on the neck. I am an advocate of the e-collars when used correctly, but I truly feel that this is way way overused here. Perhaps this method of training gets results quickly, but in my opinion, positive reinforcement should be used first and foremost, and MUCH less should be reliant upon e-collars. It's like teaching toddlers...you don't spank them over and over when you are teaching them something for the first few weeks. read more

Whatever you do...do not use these trainers. I spent $2400 during the pandemic and my dog did not learn anything. They used shock collars (or what they call STEMS) and the trainer said my dog would have to use the collar for over 9 months before she could go without it! After I found out they used that collar as their primary source of training, I told the trainer I did not feel comfortable with that form of training method. In all the 300 videos on youtube I watched on this company, they never once were transparent about the shock collar. She said over and over it didn't hurt them, but I didn't want my dog to learn and be stuck using it for almost a year! I've had numerous trainers that were way, way less expensive and they were far superior to this company. All I wanted was my dog to quit jumping on people when the doorbell rang and to quick pulling on the leash. Unfortunately, after spending an exhorbant amount of money on using OffLeash k9, I couldn't afford another trainer. DO NOT USE THEM. The trainer herself was very nice and friendly as a person, but she didn't do her job. For $2400! She literally did not learn one thing. It's basically highway robbery. DO NOT USE THEM. read more

The weekly training was a great experience that provided me with the tools needed to have a well-trained dog. This was the worst training experience I've ever been involved in. The training started off with the ecollar being placed on my girl, which I had to do because the trainers were scared to touch my 5 month old girl because she was barking. I told them she isnt a bitter, basing this off all of my experiences with her and meeting new people, she just barks a lot. But after that there was no introduction to the ecollar for my dog (no way of her knowing what it does or what is expected of her), there was no communication on what commands she already knew or what I needed help on, and about 30 or 40 minutes into the class it was cut short by other customers coming in. After the potential customers left about 20ish or more minutes had passed while I was sitting on the floor on my phone doing nothing and then the class was over and me and my pup left. It was the biggest waste of money and time I have ever spent by far. I got a partial refund but they claimed during that first hour, which was really about 30 mins, they actually trained my girl. This is laughable and if anything they scared her of strangers even more.Even after me expressing my concerns they are rude and disrespectful. Instead of trying to resolve my issues they would rather argue with me and make false claims, extremely unprofessional. read more

I got sick and my shepherd got protective. They seemed to think she was fine whenever they took her out. Well she lives in the bathroom. I needed help at home. I cannot get over being sick. I take her for rides on my mobility scooter through the neighborhood at night when it is less busy. She doesn't have much of a life but they think she is fine. And they got their money. They went above and beyond to make sure their customers were satisfied! We were aware of Off Leash K9 because of the amazing results my parents had with their German Shepard at the original location in Woodbridge, VA. We, however, live in South Texas and found a franchise location in San Antonio. We brought our six month old yellow lab,Paisley, to them for the two-week board and train option. After picking up Paisley, we were less than pleased with the results. Months later I got around to leaving negative feedback and was blown away by the immediate response. Josh, the franchise owner, contacted me immediately and was ready to do whatever was necessary to make things right. He informed me that he had parted ways with the old trainer and had a new trainer, Bill Thomas, he was very confident in. We went ahead and brought Paisley back for a week long board and train (with the option of it being longer if necessary) at no additional charge to us. The end results? They went above and beyond to make sure their customers were satisfied. My wife and I picked up Paisley and were thrilled will the results of her training. First, let me say the turnover the second time was night and day from the first time I picked Paisley up. Bill Thomas was amazing with Paisley, and really took the time to train us on how to continue to work with our newly trained dog. We contracted with OLK9 Training San Antonio for a four-week train and board for our two-year old GSD Koba. We acquired Koba at approximately 18-months old and he had only received minimal obedience training. Bill Thomas is a remarkable trainer and the results obtained with our pet were amazing.
