I'm glad that I did because this is a very nicely curated antique shop with a little vintage thrown in here and there for good measure. As far as pricing went I felt it was pretty reasonable for the most part. What really made the experience all the better though was the absolutely friendly shopkeeper who was working at the time. They were nice to everyone they interacted with and we had a nice conversation while I was perusing. I didn't leave with anything but I saw a couple of things I might come back for.

There's a large selection of books, most 3.00 and under, mass market paperbacks 50 cents, and periodically there are good old ones from the 50s or 60s. Some items are cheap. Some are costly. They also sell the very high priced stuff online, but there's still plenty of great stuff in the store itself. The bathrooms are old but super clean and not creepy like in some places. There are real antiques, beautiful furniture, art works, plastic storage tubs, all kinds of glassware, figurines, etc. Don't listen to the complainers. I go whenever I can and almost always find something I want.

After driving over an hour and 15 minutes to get there, leaving empty-handed was quite a letdown. While I appreciate that they at least had a bathroom, which allowed me to stay as long as I did, the overall hassle overshadowed any enjoyment. Employees acted like it some big ruse to take their shoes. Offered me a 25% discount to buy a pair of shoes just so I could leave the store. I left the place barefoot. I called the store as soon as I left and told Ellen that the way she handled this was inappropriate. She told me to return to the shop the next day and she would give me a $20 store credit. This is a screenshot of my timestamped email sent at 950am the next day 10 mins before the store opened. I entered the store at 10:03am and my shoes were on the sales rack marked at $30. These people are wild and their own cameras and my time stamped evidence prove it. These con artists really took my shoes, made me leave the store barefoot. Offered me a $20 store credit after I called and complained and then had the AUDACITY to have my shoes on the sale rack for $30 Even when presented with evidence that these were my shoes they tried to argue that they weren't because they were in like new condition. The woman who did all of this was the assistant manager Ellen. Mind you, I asked multiple times to see their cameras and to fill out an incident report before I left the store barefoot which they REFUSED. When I called the police Ellen REFUSED to give me the store address and kept telling me to hang up the phone. Also, as of 6/28, the website to the not for profit they claim proceeds support is invalid.

I went thrifting with a friend and was quite surprised at how many good brands I found. This place is really well priced when the average top was only $7. They do take both cards and cash. The lines to check out get quite long. Same with the line to try clothes on. There are only 2 fitting rooms available, so be prepared to be patient. Be kind to the employees. They aren't there to make extra cash.

Wish I could do NO STARS!! I bought from a vendor at Rustic…read moreFox in Carol Stream yesterday 7/21. It was a green oversize nightstand. I asked for a discount bc the paint work on this piece was sloppy. You could see the wood color under the newly painted piece in the drawer area, it was never taped off properly and it was just a bad paint job. That should have been my first clue to walk away. Vendor agreed to give me $25 off. I went ahead and bought the piece and Martin (part owner of rustic fox) helped load the piece into the bed of our truck. When they got it in the bed of the truck I noticed the wood was gouged. I noticed it and said, I'm going to repaint this so I'll just repair it with wood putty. Martin had hit this cabinet next to something that caused this to happen when he was bringing it back to load in our truck. We inspected the piece before we bought it and this was not there when viewing it on the floor. Now, I get it home and really start to look at it. This was not a gouge in the wood this was the paint peeling from the piece not being prepared properly. The wood is fine but the paint just peeled right off the piece. You can feel the old, varnished wood underneath. It's smooth like the day the piece was originally made. I called Rustic Fox and was told ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Beware what you buy here. This piece was never prepped and painted properly. Now I have to sand the piece down to the bare wood and prime and repaint. If this was prepped properly to begin with, I could do a light sand and prime and paint. My point here...Martin knew the piece was damaged when he loaded in our truck. He knew he did it. He could have allowed me to return it. The vendor lied and said how much prep work went into this piece. NOT TRUE, you can see it right on the actual piece, it was NOT PREPPED. I'll revise this post once I find out who the vendor is at Rustic Fox. BE CAREFUL when buying these painted pieces. BE CAREFUL all sales are final!!

This store is overpriced with a very small selection. They had a few sale items like old unpopular…read moresized jeans for $1; however many of the items would not be considered "vintage". They have many items on par with typical Goodwill donations, but for 3 times the price. For example, a $38 Sonoma leather jacket from Kohl's. Regarding service, the clerk clearly did not plan to speak to me. However, I kept eye contact until she was forced to acknowledge me. At which point she said hello and I replied in kind. The next customer who entered received a much more enthusiastic greeting that I did. Towards the back, a male clerk walked by me several times, but also didn't speak. Overall, it's a cute set up, but not worth the time or the consideration of spending money. Especially if they can't be bothered to speak.
