Tried on a pair of shoes, walked to the mirror to see how they looked by the time I returned someone took my shoes which were Lululemon summer slides. Employees acted like it some big ruse to take their shoes. Offered me a 25% discount to buy a pair of shoes just so I could leave the store. I left the place barefoot. I called the store as soon as I left and told Ellen that the way she handled this was inappropriate. She told me to return to the shop the next day and she would give me a $20 store credit. This is a screenshot of my timestamped email sent at 950am the next day 10 mins before the store opened. I entered the store at 10:03am and my shoes were on the sales rack marked at $30. These people are wild and their own cameras and my time stamped evidence prove it. These con artists really took my shoes, made me leave the store barefoot. Offered me a $20 store credit after I called and complained and then had the AUDACITY to have my shoes on the sale rack for $30 Even when presented with evidence that these were my shoes they tried to argue that they weren't because they were in like new condition. The woman who did all of this was the assistant manager Ellen. Mind you, I asked multiple times to see their cameras and to fill out an incident report before I left the store barefoot which they REFUSED. When I called the police Ellen REFUSED to give me the store address and kept telling me to hang up the phone. I went thrifting with a friend and was quite surprised at how many good brands I found. This place is really well priced when the average top was only $7. They do take both cards and cash. The lines to check out get quite long. Same with the line to try clothes on. There are only 2 fitting rooms available, so be prepared to be patient. Be kind to the employees. The mission for this resale shop has always been to support woman and children in abusive situations ..what a wonderful cause. I donated so much to help But it became way too pricey to shop there. Even if it is a good cause .. it's a resale shop !! Not a boutique .....they are fortunate enough to get all the unsold merchandise donated to them from the home show at McCormick place and they price gouge all of that now too. I could find the same coffee pot or mixing bowls at Walmart for cheaper than here. It's a shame. I really loved the cause and they have become so greedy. This is a small but exceedingly-well organized thrift store that benefits a shelter for victims of domestic violence. Naperville is well-heeled and the stock here reflects it. Items are carefully organized by size and type - in addition to grouping clothes by size, the actual size and manufacturer are indicated on the label, which is very helpful. There's a small vintage section, and even the books are organized by type. Prices are very reasonable, and there are some real finds - in the sewing books section, there were a bunch of the Singer Sewing Reference Library books, priced at $1.50 each, the cookware section included several new Corningware pieces, and the small makeup section included new makeup from Avon and Lancome ($2). I almost don't want to review this joint because it's my little secret (so I think). They donate the proceeds to helping domestic abuse victims and carry a ton of great things I like to buy. I bought a pair of Robeez shoes for my son for $2, some snow boots for $3 and some childproofing clips for a buck! Brand new, that stuff would've broken the bank at near $50! There is another shop in Westmont, but I've never been. If you go, could you just not buy all the good stuff, please? I really like this joint and I don't really like to share. Hah. I usually like this shop ok. The prices are kind of high, but I find a gem for cheap occasionally. Today I walked in and didn't see the sale color. It wasn't on the door, and there was no obvious place to find it. I walked to the cashier and asked what the sale color was, and she said 'It's on the sign by the front door'. I went back and looked, and I saw June specials, Freaky Fridays, and some other nonsense, but no sale color of the day. The cashier came over and said 'it's right there", but then she said "where did it go?" So, instead of just telling a 64 year old woman yellow is $1.00 today, she made me feel like a blind idiot, and I won't go back. I've been in a lot and am normally treated quite well. I looked around for about 10 minutes and walked out without buying anything. There's other thrifts for good causes that I can give my money to. I came to know about this place because I served some community service hours here. I've always liked the inventory of the store. While working there, I realized that most of the profits went towards donations. And majority of the staff are volunteers. The store is organized pretty well in my opinion, better than most thrift stores like goodwill. The clothes are organized by color as well as size at the same time. The store has a surplus of items in the month of December because of generous donations from people all over the area. The staff are very friendly, and will be happy to help you if you ask. The store has everything from: china glass, decoration pieces, glassware, electronics, movies, books, music, shoes, clothing, jackets, dresses, kids clothing, furniture, silverware, jewelry, etc. And not only that, the prices are a steal! The store is called "Second Chance Resale Shop", but when looking for the sign you will only see "Resale Shop". Its next to the McDonald's on Naper Blvd and Ogden Ave. :::::: Edit (3/07/14) :::::: Further explanation on Size and Color organization... everything in the store is organized from Left to Right. So size goes like this: XS, S, M, L, XL, PLUS..... Within those size categories, the color goes from dark to light. Black, White, Gray, Brown, etc.. It basically follows the colors of a rainbow after that. Also while I did volunteer there, when we did the sorting in the back, we only put the best condition items on the floor. Anything extra was donated to a "salvation army-like" organization. So nothing goes to waste, unless someone donates broken or unusable items. Which believe me, some people do have the nerve to do, just to receive a tax credit I suppose. Lastly, if you are so kind, and want to make a donation. All you have to do, is bring your car outback (behind the store). And ring the doorbell in the back. Someone will come open the door and assist you. read more

Wow! Goodwill can kiss my business goodbye! Second Chance Resale is just heavenly. Saturdays are usually a kiss of death for thrift store shopping, but I totally enjoyed my shopping trip today. Second Chance is roomy, clean, organized, with great merchandise, and the customers aren't ignorant or pushy/shove-y like at Goodwill. I didn't spy a single, sticky, entitled child in the aisles either. SCORE. I purchased a pair of Levi's jeans (looked new-ish to me!) for only $5! The best part of buying jeans at a thrift store, for me, is that they've already shrunk a little bit, as the length of these jeans was perfect! I'm 5'3", and sometimes even "short" or "petite" length jeans are full of lies. The racks of clothing are organized by size, followed by color and short/long sleeve. Aside from my Levi's, a tweed skirt stood out to me, but that was about it. Most of the clothing was typical thrift store garb from large retailers (Kohl's, Target, JCPenney) with a few juniors items thrown in (Hollister, Aeropostale) and the sporadic higher-end tees (J. Crew). And no thrift store would be complete without a few select items from Blanche's wardrobe from the Golden Girls. I was tempted to try on a shiny, glittery, green/gold/pink, blazer/jacket thing, only because it reminded me of something one of my JEM dolls used to have. Second Chance has a special "vintage" rack for these "glitter and gold" types of items. I don't know who determines what is vintage or what guidelines they use - I also saw a dress that looked like something Janet from "Three's Company" would wear and a cornflower blue smock that looked like one of the girls from "Breaking Amish" left behind. Aside from clothing, I purchased a novel for 50 cents that some stripper/journalist wrote. Items I passed up and don't regret include a "Buns of Steel" VHS and a Casio keyboard. There are a lot of accessories here, it looks like they get donations from Charming Charlie's. There were several full sets of nice looking china. It made me sad, because these were probably donated after someone's grandmother died. I don't know why I assumed this, but it made me want to go home and use the china I got as wedding gifts (because I just HAD to have that Kate Spade china) - even if it meant using the plates for the DiGiorno pizza I put in the oven tonight. There was a framed "Sleeping Beauty" poster for sale for $38. It was probably the only item I saw that was ridiculously overpriced. But the money goes toward a good cause, not some slimy CEO's hands, so they can do whatever they want! They also had a rack of clothing for 50 cents. I wasn't surprised that it was all crap, but it would've been worth a closer look for Halloween costumes or scrap fabric. I will definitely be back for more treasure hunting. read more

This place is absolutely outstanding huge selection from men's women's and children's clothes home goods and every little knickknack and everything else in between I walked out of the store spending 60 bucks but in actuality purchased hundreds of dollars in merchandise you could look for collectibles you could also find functional workwear and every day where is well I'll proceeds goes to a great cause which is why they except donations only encourage anyone to stop then you won't be disappointed I'm sure you'll find some buried treasure that you would like plus you know the money is going towards a good cause battered woman who deserves a second chance they also get to shop in the store more or less and get discounts on the clothes let alone all the contributions that this entity makes read more

I visited the store in Naperville and I was pleasantly surprise it was awesome everything was priced reasonably well, quality of clothing was excellent. The staff was great smiling and warm. I will recommend this resale shop and I plan on only buying from here rather then spending hundreds on new clothes. I got some really nice finds. As I recently began donating clothes (many never worn, new with tags), house goods, etc., from the minute I initially walked in, I felt a place that really appreciated the donations and made you feel welcomed. Not the ordinary "they take your items, ask you if you want a receipt, and no thank you (which really isn't truly necessary but nice to hear) and good bye". But what I didn't realize after walking through the store, seeing items that bring you back to the early years, the better times. I later found out they are volunteers for the Family Shelter Service, and now my daughters volunteer there. This is a great little thrift shop. All of the proceeds go to a local women's shelter. They've got a wide variety of clothes from you typical "grandma" clothes to some really unique vintage items. The store is well-kept and is organized in a way that is useful for shoppers and makes sense. The staff is super friendly and make the atmosphere really welcoming. I usually stop by here at least one every two weeks, and I rarely leave empty-handed. Even my mom, who only puts up with my love of thrift stores since it make me happy, can usually find something that she finds useful for a reasonable price. As for prices. They're really reasonable, most clothing items won't cost more than maybe $6, usually less. And here's a little secret. Every other Thursday they put a different color tag on sale and items with that color tag are 50% off for that week. If they aren't sold by the next Thursday, then they are on sale for just a buck. If they still have it by that Saturday, it's 50 cents (usually doesn't get to is point though). Anyways, it keeps their prices reasonable since most everything will be on sale at one point or another (except vintage and boutique items). My favorite spot is in the back left-hand corner by the fitting rooms, where they have a couple racks for vintage items. You can get great vintage clothes, shoes, and accessories for usually less than $10. Second Chance is one of my favorite thrift shops in the area due to its variety of merchandise and the welcoming atmosphere it has. If you are ever in the area, you should definitely come to Second Chance. read more

I absolutely love this place. I hardly ever shop for clothes at regular stores and pay full price because Second Chance has great stuff at great prices. They don't put out just any old junk they get, you'll always find things of good quality here. Nothing like Goodwill which I feel is usually a waste of time because I so seldom find things I want to buy. I visited this tiny shop while on vacation in the area. At first, I thought I would be leaving empty handed, but after asking a few questions, I realized that many items were on sale. Once that discovery happened, I actually ended up doing quite a bit of shopping. I wish I had more time, but as things were, I was only able to purchase clothes. I bought my FAVORITE vintage pink hat from this place and it was only $4! I wear it all the time and it is super cute. I also got this amazing 1960's mid century modern danish looking lamp from there for like 30 bucks. Such a great deal for how beautiful the lamp is. I love this place!
