This place is horrible. The employees treat you so badly, I will never shop at OfficeMax again. Went there to buy a $1000 laptop and they did nothing to make a sale. They ignored us while we shopped and when we asked for help no one ever came back. They, the manager told us to leave because they were closing at 6:30 and the door posted closing at 7:00. I wanted to give a big shout-out to Office Depot / Office Max Honolulu store. Like many others, we are preparing to work from home following the guidelines to self-isolate. I needed a laptop & some other equipment along with our normal paper supplies. I was almost physically ill at the though of having to go to Costco right now. So I went to Office Depot instead. They were not busy at all. They are still working regular hours. They had everything I needed in one spot, and beyond excellent customer service. I ordered and paid for document shredding services that were not only undelivered but were impossible to resolve with either Office Depot/Office Max or their vendor, Iron Mountain after spending multiple hours slogging through an impenetrable thicket of chat lines, texts, phone calls and emails asking repetitive questions but no solutions. I have no choice but to dispute the charges with my credit card company and demand a refund, but this does not compensate for the aggravation and abject waste of time. read more

The employees were nice enough to answer my questions. I had all the items in my cart as I waited in line. A woman was being checked out on the only available cashier. Another cashier told the people in front of me to go to counter 4. Meanwhile the cashier on number I think one motioned me to come. I put my items on the counter to be rung up and informed her I had an empty box and she said it was a display. So instead of scanning the items she turns her back to the cash register and goes to the woman who just walked up to a shelf and grabbed an item. She asked her if that was what she ordered and she said yes and then grabbed that item and checked that lady out. As that was happening a male employee came by and asked the lady if she needed assistance. She said she was being helped by the cashier (the one that would not ring up my items). So I asked the male employee if he could ring me up since she dropped me like a hot potato to ring up the lady who just walked past her. The cashier said she did not drop me like a hot potato and could now....ring me up. He picked up the box ans said he better pick up the item like a hot potato and off he went. Then instead of scanning anything she asks me if she could put the folders I was buying in a different order. I said, "what?" She said she wanted to scan the folders by color but not in the order they were in. I walked out in frustration since it appeared I was in the Twilight Zone and would never be able to get my items checked out in say 20 years. The male employee could have been a manager but who knows they do not care if you have been waiting in line. They will wait people who are not even in line and check them out. read more

One of my pet peeves are employees that have attitudes. This morning, Sunday the 6th of November, I had the unpleasant experience of going into Office Depot to fax a 29 page document. There was one person working behind the counter of the "Professional" counter. Her name was Tasha. She had a terrible attitude and I think she thought she was the FEDEX representative taking only the customers that were dropping of FEDEX packages. Two very quick questions to her ended up with a Thumb point toward the self-service copier/fax and to Are there any faster ways to fax then 1 page per minute which got a shake of the head no. Her attitude was terrible. One of the other, very customer orientated employees tried to help but to no avail. Office Depot, you have lost me as a customer. I can get everything I need somewhere else. Wonder how many customers you have lost due to Tasha? By the way, her name tag was on her mike cable and turned around backwards. I had to ask her to turn it around so I could see her name. What an absolute terrible employee...... read more

The more I shop here, the less I like it. Joined the loyalty program. Found out you only get points on a few things, like ink, toner, and print shop services. Points expire every quarter. Excess points over the amount redeemed for the reward and thrown away (so if you have 1200 points at the end of the quarter - 1000 go to a $10 reward, the remaining 200 are thrown away). Did I call this a loyalty program? Now to review this store. It's average at best. Prices are middle to high. Selection is basic. Staff seemed too busy to help. I guess I go to Fisher next time. read more

Try to return a fax machine and didn't realize that return policy is 14 days . The cashier lady told to contact the manufacturer for the return. Obviously it is not going to work. I don't mind the 14 days policy but at least do not give me some bogus info to push me out the door. read more

The print shop needs an overhaul. Their prices are good, but service has been terrible since the merger with Office Depot. Either they have a very difficult time finding my print job or it's not done on time. I came with a co-worker to look for chairs to go in our office conference room. We browsed a bit and was approached by Carter asking if we had any questions. He was super helpful and assisted us in our search for the perfect chair. We went through different options as he gave us time to look around, and when we were ready he was available to help us. Carter checked on the stock for the chair we liked and although they only had three in stock, he was able to get our information to give to someone that would be able to assist us and get the amount that we needed. He was very informative of the process and at least got our info to the right person. We will wait to get a response from her and she is even able to give us a better price on the chairs since we are buying in bulk. NIICE. Don't know about the rest of the store since we only came specifically for the chairs. They did have a better office chair selection than Fisher Hawaii. Thanks Carter for your help! It's no wonder Office Max is going out of business. They closed early on Halloween. Halloween is not a holiday. I had a certificate for 20.00 to use that expired on that day. They closed at 6:00 and I got there after work at 6:20. Everyone else had to work on that day I don't see why a major retailer closed early on a regular weekday. This was a certificate from selling my ink cartridges back to them. They basically "stole" my ink cartridges. If they were going to CLOSE EARLY on the 31st then my certificate should have been good until November 1. FISHER HAWAII offers better service, better prices, and they kept to their regular hours on the 31st. All my shopping will be there from now on. I don't shop with thieves. read more

It's not uncommon to see long checkout lines only to realize there are more employees standing around socializing than customers in line. This store has great inventory and no real competition nearby, adequate parking and accessibility. Unfortunately poor customer service holds it back from getting a good review. So we wandered over to OfficeMax a little late one evening and got there with 5 minutes til closing. See that I have worked in retail before, seeing two people walk into your store 5 minutes before closing sucks. Knowing this, I wanted to have a quick look then leave, so the employees wouldn't have to wait for us for a long time. I was starting toward the networking section when Juan asked if he could help us. "Where's you're routers?" I asked. "Right over here." Juan responded. He showed me over to their section and answered a few questions. He was a pretty easygoing guy who seemed like us walking in late didn't bother him at all. In the meantime the girlfriend was looking over a few desks and he answered her questions on that as well. We left with a good feeling about coming back the next business day and getting the things we needed. After looking over some other places later that night, we returned bright and early the next morning. I purchased a new router and the girlfriend got a new desk (which took us 8 hours to assemble and we're still not done yet). They adjusted the price of the desk because on their online store it was cheaper (as a side note, if it is cheaper online you have to bring in a copy of the webpage to get the discount, they cannot do so in store for you or see it on your phone. They need a hard copy to adjust the price). Anyway, once we bought everything, Juan helped us get the particle board desk outside. Well, the thing wouldn't fit in our car! After sitting there trying to figure things out, a really nice local guy that was recycling printer cartridges (OfficeMax recycles printer cartridges and gives you $3 store credit each for laser printer cartridges) named Tufu asked if he could help us move it to our house! To say that we lucked out is an understatement because I would not know how to get that thing back to our place. Thanks Tufu! The whole experience was great. So Fisher's is my usual go-to place for office supplies because it often has better deals. Goodness knows I must have saved hundreds of dollars at Fisher's back in the days when I got a binder and tab dividers for every high school class. So yeah, Fisher's has a special place in my world for having witnessed so much of my near-obsessive organizing tendencies. But I just didn't feel like walking through a dim, dusty warehouse today. My nose and hair are usually itchy and scolding me by the time I find all I need. It's not everyday someone's up to that task xD. As if the well-lit (natural lighting as well as electrical) and pleasantly clean store were not enough, I was greeted by a friendly sales associate the moment I stepped into the store. I wanted to stroll through the aisles myself first so I declined his offer of helping me find something. There were a good number of sales associates wandering the aisles/accomplishing tasks so that was very nice when I did need help with finding sheet protectors. One of the sales associates (his name was Trever) impressed me with his customer service when he took the time to introduce me to the MaxPerks program for businesses and teachers. Apparently Office Max takes special care of teachers and sometimes offers 50% discount to just teachers throughout the year in addition to money back rewards. Dude, that's so awesome. Normally I get exceptional service at this place, but this particular time it was sorely disappointing. The initial salesperson was quick and helpful, but the lady that was supposed to look in stockroom for the item I needed was outside smoking while I waited! I saw her when she came in and ask the guy that helped me what he needed. So I had to wait even longer. The cashier was pretty stoic and not very pleasant, but considering it was during Christmas time, understandable and forgiving. I ended up finding a similar item at another store at a lower price, so ended up returning the item anyway. That process was quick and painless with no questions asked. So that was a plus. It's not enough to deter me from shopping here. The store is clean and there's a wide range of things to get here. So I'll be back and hopefully have a better experience to put back some stars. :P read more

Went to this store - looking for a particular shipping supply item. The store had a sale - "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" for the specific item I was looking for. Well hot diggity damn! It's my day right? NOPE. I got 3 of the same item, assuming the 3rd one would be free since you know, all the flashy red & yellow tags clearly say so and specified that the item I bought had that sale. Then, I come home and check out the receipt - and they charged me for ALL THREE. Didn't get the 3rd one for free. You see, if there wasn't a sale to get the 3rd free, I wouldn't have purchased THREE of the same shipping supply and would have just picked up ONE. So as a consumer - do we have to do your job for you? Maybe I needed to say "Excuse me, person working at the cash register and getting paid, The 3rd one should be FREE, make sure you take off the 3rd item or punch in the correct code to make it free okay?" ????? I ordered a collapsible cart online and put it for pick-up at this store. There is more than enough parking in the lot. The staff doesn't really smile that much or offer much help, aside from one male worker who was helping people take their purchases to their cars. It seemed like customers needed to actively seek out help from workers. A few people got a little confused by where the line starts for the registers, so one man was cutting in front of me on accident. I was hoping that the worker (whose name was something like Judah and who seemed like the manager) would say something to him, because "Judah" saw me waiting in line and was the person helping this man a few minutes prior. Instead, "Judah" opened a new line and told me to come to his register, so that was fine. I told "Judah" the manager that I wanted to pick up the cart, but he had trouble finding my order. He took me to a different counter and helped me to figure out what happened. He kept barking orders into his headpiece, telling workers to help at the registers, because a line was forming. Another worker who looked frustrated came to answer the phone and tell him that there weren't anymore workers. "Judah" quickly got everything figured out for me and went to retrieve the cart, but they ran out of the black ones. So I just settled for the blue one. It was okay because it was on sale. He got my situation settled quickly, but it wasn't the most welcoming environment. read more

There was one that we really liked at another store but it was the display model so I didn't want to buy that one. We changed our minds to just buy another PC tower. I was checking the ads and went to the different stores. OfficeMax had one in our price point and it had the speed and memory that we needed. Until last week, when I finally had to get my own TI calculator, I dragged myself to the store since Fishers didn't have that many selections (and a little more boring store ;p ) For a long time, I forgot how much I loved shopping for office supplies when I was a kid in the beginning of school years. I loved having a complete set of color pens & markers, I loved having my color-coded binders & tabs, I loved having nice roller-gel pens that are made in Japan (still love those ^_^)..you get the idea! Even better, at OfficeMax, they even have color coordinated mouse-mouse pad-lap top pad & all kines of little gadgets in my favourite color, PINK! (they're also available in more manly colors..ehm, if you prefer). I also love all their DIVOGA lines..soo cute! The service is friendly, I was greeted prompty and the sales person helped me chose an item that has the highest quality, yet economical. So after 30 min & $102 later (wow! :))..I was happy to walk out with a bunch of cool office supplies :) read more

Every time I try to get simple orders printed with them I come to pick up my order and they can't find it and after searching for 5 minutes they discover....IT HASN"T BEEN PRINTED! Walked in to grab something really quickly. I asked what aisle I could find what I was looking for was on. The person stopped what he was doing and personally walked me to the aisle. Once I was there he asked if I had any questions or needed to know where anything else was. I didn't, so he left me alone. I remember finding my favorite calendar book from here although i am terrible at planning and most of the time not so good at keeping check. I do see some great organizers, pro-folios, folders, binders, envelopes, markers...etc which are all very helpful for office type of works. Despite of my passive planning, less as organized... I still try my best to keep things in check every other some time. I love stationaries ever since i was little so it was good to be able to find some great finds such as cards, notebooks, journals, pens, and staplers...etc Some of the greatest times shopping for office supplies at the store and i remember seeing several types of ergonomically designed furnitures which were dedicatedly designed for office workers and some beautiful decorations that were pre-packaged for special occasions. For beginning of the school or semester or open season promotions every once now and then. There was also section which has some great office supplies of course like something we see every day, cleansers, basic maintenance tools, pepper towels, clip boards...etc all the other supplies and necessities are pretty much available to be found at the store. read more

I don't really like to write reviews, but this really upset me. I used to shop here for years it was great, but just like the reviews below they have been giving me problems lately. My wife had an appointment with the doctor, so I decided to go do some early Christmas shopping instead of waiting inside the office. I walked in, no one greeted me. Everyone looked "busy". As I'm browsing around for certain things and have an employee constantly following me around. I was about to buy some merchandise, but decided to walk out. I had a good experience at the Kakaako location. They were initially out of the filing cabinet that I wanted but they told me exactly when their next shipment would be in and when to check back. I did and it was available. The cashier was super friendly and went out of her way to help me with their app on my phone so I could get my discount. The guy helped load the cabinet into my car. In today's retail stores customer service can be a fickle thing with so many factors affecting it. Some factors are created by corporate, some by store management and most often by the employees overall attitude. Today I experienced a young man named James that made a difference and created a very positive shopping experience. My mom's laptop went out and I remember that Office Max offered a free diagnostic service to tell you what is going on with your PC/Laptop. So I took her in today to get it checked out. James tried his best but we kinda knew her laptop may just be dead as she has had it for 6+ years. We de died its just time to get a new device. After I explained that she only uses this to read email and play a few games James and I tried to convince her to just get a tablet. Butttttt.... Any of you that have tried to talk common sense and get your mother to see that although she has lived many more years than you, you might actually know more about the situation especially when she is definitely NOT tech-savvy. James caught my hints and we both explained to her why she doesn't need to pay for more features when she basically could just do on fhose her phone. James was very pleasant, patient and knowledgeable but in the end mom opted for basically the "nice looking one" that was larger with more bells and whistles despite not even knowing anything about the apps and features on it. In the end James made the difference (and the sale) because he had a great attitude and salesmanship that is often very rare to see. Thank you James! read more

The worst experience I've ever had ANYWHERE! I'm in a rush for a project that needs to be done today for a professional networking event I'm planning and I needed 4 reams of 24 pound, 11 x 17 white paper. I kindly got the attention of the bald man in the front (really wish I got his name) because I was not able to find it on my own after 10 minutes of looking. He gave me the most condescending look and told me "it's the only pound of paper we have in that size. It's all the way in the back. All the way in the back". Didn't think much of it at first because maybe it was just my own mistake and decided to look more again since apparently I had missed it. Turns out: 1) the 11 x 17 paper was on the HIGHEST shelf and I already felt discouraged to ask again if he could help me get it. 2) It. Was. 20. POUNDS!!!! Upon my exit, the same man kindly helped a woman find what she needed AND even accompanied her to the aisle. Thanks Office Max. Just called Fishers and they have EXACTLY what I need. read more
