This was a great popular stop that was on our way to the Freedom Trail. The service was quick despite the long lines, and I love that they take their time to make latte art despite the crowd and while having ordered to go. The drinks were delicious and I asked for extra hot, which was actually hot (this seldom happens at coffee shops). The ambiance is nice and it's a great stop for a morning coffee!
This place has been on my list for a while because I've heard many good things, so I was glad to have the opportunity to try one of their drinks. I got the Houjicha latte with oat milk, and although the smallest size was over $10, the flavors were impeccable, earthy and not too sweet at all which is exactly what I was looking for. If it weren't for the cost, I'd be a regular, but it's worth the occasional splurge.
I didn't love paying almost $10 for a hojicha latte, but I still have to give Ogawa credit where credit is due - that was one of the better hojicha lattes I've had! Nutty, rich, and just a little sweet, with a smooth taste from start to finish. Can't ask for much better. Like the menu, this location is quirky, with all sorts of seating arrangements, ranging from stadium seating benches to an elevated table near the front window. I opted for a regular stool at a regular table, and I was the odd cafe goer. But seriously, great drinks here, worth a splurge if you're looking for hojicha.
I got the iced smoked maple latte which was so delicious. It has the perfect balance between sweetness and smokiness. The inside is cutely decorated, perfect for coffee+reading, and staff is kind. Quick service for how busy they were!! I'm just visiting Boston but I would come back the next I'm here.
I got their hot matcha latte, and it was great! The matcha was nice and the drink was not too sweet! I ended up adding some extra sugar because it was a cold day and I needed a little extra sugar boost. The staff was very friendly! Very trendy and interesting interior, with the seating being like tall stair-like ledges you can sit at, in addition to traditional table/bar seating. Nice place to sit and chat and enjoy a drink!
Came here early in the morning for a nice cup of coffee. I am very impressed with their lattes! I got the seasonal speciality - peppermint mocha latte I believe it was called. It was super delicious and smooth. The latte art is so pretty. It was very calm and peaceful in the morning. Not crowded at all. Service was good.
Very cute coffee shop with very nice staff! Interior is very cozy and there is a good amount of space as well! The matcha is definitelyyyyy worth getting and I got the cheddar croissant randomly, but it was SO good (obviously get it warmed!). Also love how they only play jazz or classical music, so if you're a book reader like me, it's perfect ambience noise! Very cute place and will be coming again to try something else from here soon :)
We tried this unique coffee shop from Kyoto, Japan last year and couldn't wait to return! Return we did, making it to the spot 5 minutes before close on the last day of our visit! Last year, I could quickly double park right outside and run it but the logistics changed... This time I parked across the street in a tow away zone. All good! The staff were very gracious in making two lattes for my wonderful wife. I ordered one smoked maple like last year plus a new salted caramel pumpkin! She liked them both! Alicia helped secure the drinks to ensure I could carry them both across the store without spilling a drop! The latte art was exquisite so we got a nice picture before covering the drinks for the journey. Thank you Alicia for your kind, friendly and professional service! We look forward to returning next time we are within an hour or two of Boston! Life is good with excellent unique coffee!
Waited in line for about 15 minutes at Ogawa Coffee, and honestly it was completely worth it. This was the best coffee I've had in a while. I got an iced americano and a hojicha latte, and both were excellent. The americano was smooth, bold, and not bitter at all, but the real surprise was the hojicha latte! The hojicha flavor actually came through, which never happens at most coffee shops. It was toasty, earthy, and so comforting without being overly sweet. If you don't mind a short wait and want really high-quality drinks, this spot is absolutely worth a stop. It's worth the 5 stars.
This is strictly for their fresh orange juice and iced matcha latte. It's not too sweet or too bland, just right for my taste-bud. Menu is not complicated but the girl at the register seem rushed for me to order, even though I was not in line yet. I wish I have tried their Hojicha. My cousin got it for me from them to try at home but I have yet to master to make it at home. Next time when I'm in the area, I would give other drinks a try. Stadium benches on the side to wait for your drinks is a great use of the space while being able to sit many people. Bathroom was semi-clean but it's like the center of Boston. Cannot expect much. It's a solid matcha place; I just wouldn't go out of my way to come here unless I was craving coffee/matcha and happened to be in the area.
Pros: Unique drinks and specialized coffee! Seasonal Drinks Nice Atmosphere Cons: Pricey Lacking in Flavor Better/ equal coffee/tea in other spots I got the Hojicha Iced Latte and the Seasonal Iced Maple Latte. Maple Latte: I liked the depth of the espresso shot and think overall it has a nice nutty, slightly chocolate, smooth feel. However I could taste no maple at all, but did get the thickness of the bacon and salt in there. I wish this was more Maple because I couldn't taste a hint in the drink. Overall the espresso came through very nice. Hojicha: Naturally sweet, nutty, nice roasted in depth matcha flavor. Good Hojicha! It was slightly chalky however. Poorly whisked. Just enough to be noticeable. This drink was pretty solid but again the prices are crazy. Overall: Decent drinks with not so decent prices. The prices are a bit wild, in both drinks the oat milk was an extra $1 I didn't get asked if I wanted it either or to sub it out, and with a cheap tip I left spending over $20 for both 16oz drinks. The atmosphere is a modern, cool, smooth vibe but there's quite a few people there and it's relatively busy.
Ogawa Coffee is a cute, small coffee shop that's perfect for studying, reading, and taking a rest. I ordered a vanilla lavender latte that hit the spot, perfect temperature to drink immediately and the lavender flavor really came through. It was a packed coffee shop but my friend and I sat at the bar seats and they had some mini puzzles on the table to play with. Will definitely come again to try their other drinks. read more
Got their hojicha latte in the middle of my lunch break. It's different taste of hojicha that I've ever taste before! (At least in California) It's not too sweet and I could taste hojicha flavor. Hojicha is a roasted version of green tea, but different for matcha, so it's color is not as pretty but it's good and strong roasted taste. Their bathroom is very tricky to lock. read more

I always been a take out regular on the weekdays and the drinks always have been great. First time dining in and I like the space. I'm a big fan of the various seatings since it gives a different perspective of the coffee shop. However the service tend to be slow due to the high volume of patrons. Will be coming more often on the weekends to enjoy the space! read more
Ogawa coffee was recommended to me by many friends, and as a coffee/tea lover I was very excited to check them out. I've also heard their bagel sandwiches are delicious. The interior of the coffee shop is very modern, with a few tables/seats and very unique bleacher style seating farther in the back. There were a few people studying/doing work but the ambiance seems much better for chit chat. The customer service was great, my friend and I were able to chat with one of the workers and we learned more about the shop and how they source their beans/matcha. My friend got a chai latte which she liked and I got the seasonal caramel pumpkin spice latte. Although pricy (I think my cup was $7ish), the quality and flavor was delicious. Not to sweet, deep coffee flavor, and perfect balance of caramel and pumpkin spice. We sat at the bar and saw the kitchen churn out bagel sandwich after bagel sandwich, all made fresh to order and looked so delicious. I definitely will come back to try more of their menu (most notably their matcha latte) and their bagels! My favorite coffee shop in Boston so far. read more
My friend took me to Ogawa Coffee near downtown and Quincy Market. A cool vibe of a coffee shop with some snacks to eat, but we mainly went for drinks. I had to try the matcha ice latte. It was really delicious and not strong for me as a non-coffee drinker. read more
Ogawa has a wide selection of pourovers (Kalita) and high quality specialty lattes. For milk drink aficionados, they have one of the best milk textures I've ever had. The quality shows in the latte art. However, this is the most expensive place I've ever had (-1 star). $8 for a flavored latte, $9.36 for a pourover. Is it good? Yes. Is it that good? Probably not. Ogawa Coffee is my new go-to cafe in the Downtown Area! I got an Iced Matcha Latte and a Bacon Egg and Cheese Sandwich on an Everything Bagel. Their Iced Matcha Latte is really delicious -- it's clear they use high quality matcha. The drink wasn't bitter at all and was very smooth yet rich. Easy 10/10. This is my new favorite place to get an iced matcha latte now! I would say the price is a bit on the more expensive end... but definitely worth it for the quality you are getting. I thought the Bacon Egg and Cheese Sandwich on an Everything Bagel would be your typical breakfast bagel sandwich, but it was so much better. I added spicy chili mayo and it really elevated the taste of the sandwich. It tasted so good and paired amazingly with the savory of the bacon, cheese, and egg. I HIGHLY recommend getting the spicy chili mayo with any sandwich you get here! Overall, I am excited to come back again. The service is quick and friendly. There's also limited seating, but I could see it as a good place to study. The latte art here is also very pretty, so I would love to come back again to try their hot lattes! read more
I really liked this coffee stop! The interior of the shop is very minimalist and airy. It was very crowded but we were still able to find seats. The coffee itself was great. I got Vietnamese Iced Coffee that was very smooth and refreshing. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Boston. read more
Their matcha was super high quality! It was very smooth and not bitter at all, even without added sweetener. It is a bit on the expensive side (~$7 per cup), but you get what you pay for. The latte designs are also amazingly detailed. This place gets busy but they have a good amount of seating if you want to stay and work. However it does get quite loud and busy. read more
I had the best latte I've ever had at Ogawa! I'm a huge tea lover so the Houjicha Tea Latte ($6.75) was perfect for me. It's made from roasted green tea leaves so it had an incredible roasted aroma and natural sweetness with earthy tones. I would definitely go back to try some of their other lattes! I heard that they do special designs for the latte art so I'd love to get that next time. read more

The first thing you noticed upon stepping foot into Ogawa coffee is the stadium seating. It brings a certain modern ambiance, challenged by its ominous warning: "Please use the stadium seating at your own risk. Enjoy the view!" The stadium seating set up, suggests a performative barista experience. Unfortunately, Ogawa falls short as the barista, clearly camera shy, looks away from the crowd. This would be an easy five star if the barista had done just one trick for the stadium. The coffee tastes of caramel and carries notes of sugar (but I added that afterwards). Did I just pay $7.75 for a latte (actually more because I asked for oatmilk)? Yes I did. Did it taste good though? Yes it did. I tried the smoked maple latte with oatmilk. It was sweet, creamy, and toasty at the same time. I wish it was more caffeinated though, it felt like I did not drink any caffeine at all and the coffee flavor barely shone through the smoked maple flavor. The place was absolutely packed on a weekday afternoon. I waited behind 3 people once I got here and then waited at least 10-15 minutes to receive my drink. read more
We arrived for breakfast since it was a two minute walk from our hotel. I checked the menu before hand and it looked good! I ordered the Japanese latte tea sweetened and avacado toast. I always go for non caffeinated or those that can be decaf. If your looking for a similar option- highly recommend! The tea tasted like milk tea without boba. The avacado toast was fresh! Flavored well and did have a bit of salad on the side. I thought overall it was a filling breakfast and would recommend it others! If I lived in Boston I would definitely be back! NOTE- obviously since it is in the middle of downtown, there is no parking unless you wanna break the bank paying for a garage. Also another note, you can leave the plates before you leave the cafe. I awkwardly walked the plates to the end of the cafe where there were buckets thinking I was doing a nice deed. The waiter came up to me and grabbed them from my hand lol future note. read more
Stopped by this coffee shop on the way to work and was not disappointed. Hojicha latte (iced) - I was surprised at the price but I believe the tea is imported from Japan. The hojicha latte was better than I expected. It has the roasted flavor but definitely not as strong as other hojicha I've had. It's not super sweet which I appreciate. read more

I came here to kill a few hours and have some coffee. I ordered an oat milk caramel latte with an avocado toast. The latte was yummy and fresh, but considering the price it wasn't extraordinary. I wanted to try one of their coffee specials, but they were sold out by the time I arrived. The avocado toast blew me away! They use chili mayo & regular mayo with sesame seeds and an ENTIRE avocado. I've never had anything like it! The avocado was fresh, the bread was yummy, and I scarfed down the whole thing. Seating is sparse; there are a few tables + stadium seating. I wish they added a couch or at least padded chairs because my back was killing me after sitting on their wooden stools for 2 hours. Overall, I will definitely come again. I took off one star for the price (my 2 items were over $20 with tip), the unavailable specials, and the seating situation. I can see myself grabbing a to-go order and walking to Post Office Square to enjoy once the weather is nicer :) read more
On a slow Thursday noon, I decided to get some coffee at Ogawa. Having some time to spare, I ordered a Kalita Wave pour over ($7.25) with Santa Lucia coffee from Costa Rica (+$0.75), which took 5 minutes to prepare. The coffee tasted darker than what I'm used to - namely American 3rd wave coffee shops that use light to light-medium roasts. The Santa Lucia definitely tasted more around medium roast. The char was much more pronounced, though it did not mask other flavors. In general, Japanese 3rd wave coffee shops serve darker coffees than their American counterparts; an interesting cultural difference you can experience if you find a fancy upscale coffee shop in Tokyo. While the pour over's price point seemed high (compared to Blue Bottle's $5-6 pour over), this had a larger portion, served in a cup with additional coffee in a small carafe. I wouldn't pay that daily, but I would consider the price worthwhile. 4* Lastly, the store's music gave it a lo-fi instrumental hip hop feel, like those cafe music streams on YouTube. read more
Seemed like a really popular spot for local Bostonians. I heard the matcha here was good so i of course did not get the matcha but instead the hojicha (it's roasted matcha so it still counts right?). i just personally like the roasted nutty flavor more and the iced hojicha latte did not disappoint. I'm not really a matcha expert but it tasted good and was surprisingly creamy, there was a good mouthfeel after every sip. Really great coffee shop, especially on a cold snowy day. I went with three other friends and tried a great variety of drinks including the Matcha Latte, Houjicha Tea Latte, Chai Latte, Kyoto House Blend Coffee, and the seasonal special Latte with cardamom and brown sugar. My favorite drinks were the Houjicha Tea Latte and the seasonal special Latte. However, I enjoyed all the drinks and would happily order any of them again in the future. There aren't any bad drinks in my opinion. The latte art is also beautiful. I sat at a small bar like area where I overlooked the latte artists. I found this experience really unique and enjoyable. Also, if you plan to order food, they currently have limited options due to covid precautions. I'm excited for them to open up more food options once covid improves. They have a bathroom too. Always a plus. Overall, really yummy and cute coffee shop. It's a perfect study spot and location to catch up with a friend. read more

Drinks: Opted for a basic iced matcha latte and quality was pretty good. They said the powder wasn't pre-sweetened and that they add sweetener. Asked for it unsweetened but it did taste a bit sweet to me. It might've been the flavor of the milk that made it taste sweet though! Ambiance: Volume levels are super high here. Be prepared to hear many loud, simultaneous conversations and noise from the open kitchen. I definitely suggest bringing headphones. In terms of studying/working, there is only one outlet throughout the entire cafe - at the first communal table to the right of the register, just next to the round table. Luckily was able to snag it for my study session but it is also a loose outlet so it kept unplugging from time to time. Overall interior design is super interesting - lots of elevated surfaces. Lots of natural light as well! Loved the high windows. Service: Didn't catch the cashier's name but she had such a kind voice and welcoming personality! She was really informative when I asked about their matcha. read more
I am so sad that it took me this long to finally stop by this cafe. I heard so much about Ogawa, and I am happy to say it lived up to its reputation. Although we came in about an hour before it closed, this cafe was packed to the brim. People kept filing in with orders, so the wait time was estimated to be about 20-25 minutes for our drink. It was no big deal because I was in no rush. I ordered the Hojicha latte while my friend ordered the smoked maple latte. Needless to say, the coffee here is worth it. The Hojicha latte was not bad, but my friend's drink totally stole the spotlight. It was so good, I nearly wanted to go up and order my own coffee if the cafe was not already preparing to close. While the coffee is definitely on the pricier side compared to other cafes I have been to, the quality here is top-notch. The coffee was so fragrant and delicious. While the maple flavor was not as prominent, you can taste a bit of salt, which paired very well with the coffee. I later came back to try their rose matcha latte, which looked gorgeous but tasted alright. I also tried their vanilla lavender latte, which was not bad, but the smoked maple latte is still the best. I had a great experience a few months back with the hot matcha, and stopped by again for the iced matcha. I found a hair inside my drink this time, which caught me super off guard and was high key unappetizing. Aside from the hair, the drink was solid. I think the hot matcha was a bit better, but I may be biased from the hair incident. read more

Ogawa coffee was recommended to me by a couple different people and I have to say worth the wait. Many college kids are starting to move back so the line was out the door! Service was kind and quick and the shop was filled with people. The matcha latte I got for myself was pretty decent, I'd say it's 3.5/5 (which the flavor was stronger) but the coffee was delicious! Would come back again if the lines weren't as long. read more

I got the matcha rose latte and the Vietnamese iced coffee and they were both very good. I like the matcha rose latte because it was so pretty and it had a strong match taste. It's pretty small inside with few tables, so its not a great place to get work done or to study. The matcha latte and coffee took a while to be made, around 15 mins. But would certainly come back for a good matcha! read more
I've heard nothing but great things about Ogawa, so I decided to stop by on a Saturday morning. The cafe was very small - there were 2 window-side tables, a couple mismatched tables in the middle, and what seemed like a staircase of seats against the wall. There were SO many people here - it was almost impossible to find a seat. I ordered the matcha latte and a plain croissant (since this was the only pastry they had at the time). I really loved the matcha latte - it wasn't too sweet or too bitter. The latte art was also super aesthetic! The croissant was delicious, flaky, and buttery - it was basically perfect. Overall, I had a great experience here! I'll definitely be back for another matcha latte! read more
** High quality matcha and coffee in downtown Boston! More pricy than your average coffeeshop but you get what you pay for. I came across this coffeeshop while walking through Downtown Boston and ended up ordering the Iced Matcha Latte. From the first sip I could tell that the matcha was great quality and better than a lot of other stores which use cheaper matcha. After all, it was around $7-8 so it was definitely on the pricier end and maybe not something I'd order regularly but definitely worth trying out. I definitely have a sweet tooth when it comes to drinks so I asked the barista to add more honey to the drink which they were able to do so if you want to make adjustments to your drink they definitely can help you out! It didn't seem like there was much parking in the immediate area due to its location so that may be something to consider if you aren't already in the area or getting around by the T. There was a few tables as well as bleacher style seating inside, so it might also not have the most space to do work depending on how crowded it is, but the drinks are still definitely worth trying! read more
I had wanted to do the freedom trail and only got like a block in before me and the rest of my group decided to get coffee and sit indoors. This place is great for people to do work on their laptops and just to sit. There are some tables and there's a section that are like bleachers in the stand. That was pretty cool to see cause a lot of people were sitting on it and they didn't look uncomfortable. They have really good breakfast options. Like bagel sandwiches and avocado sandwiches. The sauce is the winner for sure though! I'd recommend asking for the sauce on the side cause they can go a little heavy if not requested and sometimes it can be messy. The beverage selections were great! They had a summer drink that was some carbonated coffee which was super refreshing. It was light, spritzy, and caffeinated. The iced matcha latte was not bad. I wish it was a little more matcha focused and less milk but overall not bad. I enjoyed stopping in this coffee place and could definitely keep coming here when I'm in the area. The workers were nice, they have bathrooms, and it's nice to have food selections also available. read more
