Used to love this place but since they moved to Fruitland they stopped doing takeout. Lots of customers lost due to that.

First time I've gone there. Love the decor. When the waitress came up to me I asked her some questions. It was apparent that she didn't like the fact that I asked her about things that they did not have. Which I didn't know they didn't have. I just wanted to find them on the menu. Right away there was an attitude change in her voice and body language. Made me feel bad at first. I did apologize to her and told her I didn't mean to say anything to upset her. I was merely asking about items and if they had them. She still had that same attitude and kept going on about you can't expect everyone to have certain things. Which I don't but I'm still going to ask if you have them if I'm new. So I got an appetizer that I ordered which was edamame. Then I sat there and waited and waited watching the people that were seated after me get all their food. All of a sudden she comes up and says oh I don't know where your food's at. She brought me some fried chicken pieces. the taste was okay (ate 2 pieces) but it was very soggy and not very warm at all. So I figured that she just grabbed something that they had fried up ( on accident)a while ago and brought it to me to hold me over till she figured out what happened to my food. She should at least had found out when it was made. It basically took them about 45 minutes to get me the one item. And yes I paid for my food and gave her a tip. Which I really thought about afterwards did I make the right decision on that? I'm a nice person that wants to be treated the same. I really don't think I'll be going back there. Which really bums me out. And why it's because it's the way I was treated. The two stars that I give are for the restaurant's decor. read more

Came to Ontario on a whim and decided to have our date night dinner out here. Outside the place looks better than the other places in the neighborhood so that's a good start. Inside they've got a traditional sushi bar and a small dining room. The interior furnishings are a little underwhelming and is the only reason it got 4 stars. A big mirror or some decor upgrades would bolster this place 10-fold. Wifey got a chicken bowl and I got fish and chips. Both were quite good! There's something above fries cooked in the same oil that fish is cooked that makes them amazing! Service was good, food was good. No complaints at all. I'd recommend it any time. We found this place while on a long roadtrip, using Yelp. We were so tired of road food, fast food - and wanted something "real" for a change. This is a gem in Ontario Oregon - totally unexpected. The listings called it a "Teriyaki shack" but that's a former name. It's anything but a shack. It's a real restaurant with nice ambience, and very friendly staff. I had a teriyaki salmon and veggie bowl (with rice) and my wife had sushi - and the quality could compete with good Japanese restaurants in any large city. We also had the onion rings recommended by David F (we got a mini portion). \ For those of you who want burgers and sandwiches - they also have those - with a creative spin. If you're a local, I can't speak for other choices in Ontario, but if you're on I-84, and want a really nice change of pace, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed. If you are driving toward Boise from anywhere to the west and you have a mutiny on your hands because the crew can't make it another hour without stopping for food, then Ogawa's is a sure bet to cure their scurvy. It is a modern restaurant, not a dusty anachronism in the "lower" valley. The ahi tuna sandwich is outstanding. Nicely seared and slightly rare. Great wasabi mayo on it. Sure go ahead and get the edamame, you are eating a Japanese meal, but you are in onion country, son. So get's somma them onion rings on the side. Favorite Sushi Roll: The Tabitha is AMAZING without the Spicy Tuna Sauce it tastes wonderful and can actually be saved in your fridge for another meal if it was too large for one. Ogawa's was a welcomed surprise. I was not keen on having sushi in Eastern Oregon but, Ogawa's blew us away. The sushi was fresh and flavorful. The steak is excellent. The prices are more than reasonable for the quality of the food you get. We have a big family with five young kids. The staff was very nice and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. Sushi, Burgers and Steak. The menu is packed with choices with the Asian infusion dishes front and center. I had the yakisoba chicken bowl for $10. It was packed full of Veg and noodles. The chicken pieces were on top lathered in a sweet sauce. The chicken was dry and a bit chewy. This made the dish OK. If they had cooked my chicken as I ordered it the food would have been fantastic. Mediocre food at best. We tried numerous items including salmon, chicken, and shrimp. All the proteins were so dry even an extra dousing of the "teriyaki" sauce couldn't save them! I realize Ogawa's is a local favorite - most likely because there are so few restaurants in our area - but is just not worth the money or wait. Drive to Nampa, Caldwell, or Boise if want edible food. Might give it a 1.5 stars if it existed, but 2 would be too much. Knowing this was Ontario, Yelp gave this place 3.5 stars. Went there during the last part of the lunch hour. Inside is a bit shabby. Not a Japanese face anywhere. Help was one poor guy who had to take order, serve and collect money. As a consequence serve was slow and desultory. I was somewhat hesitant to order Japanese food at a place where half the menu is hamburgers and other non-Japanese food. The Japanese side of the menu was predominantly rice and Yakisoba bowls. Sushi offerings were scant, maybe a half dozen types of rolls. Ordered some mizo soup and a sushi combo for a light lunch. Mizo soup was pretty dull and luke warm. They had to take it back and zap it by microwave. That didn't improve the taste or the consistency of the tofu in the mizo. Wife didn't finish it. The sushi combo was a California roll and an eel roll. Both were done sans nori seaweed. In fact, I don't think they knew what nori is. The eel roll as the better of the two, but neither was a stellar example of sushi rolls. We would have been better to go across the street and had Taco Bell's version of Mexican Food. The food isnt bad but the sushi rolls are tiny. So you have to order at least two to feel satisfied. And its about 10$ per roll. Which means $20 for yourself alone before drinks and tip. The waitress was definitely lacking on social skills. No personality, didnt check on us, started reaching over us to pick up straw wrappers before we were all even finished eating. Ontario is one of those towns that has a popular sizzler. It is not a town for the food lover. But I must agree with the rest. If you are in from out of town or just passing through this is the place to go. The food is far from the best Japanese you will eat. But it is good. The staff makes up for this. The bartender was friendly to the loan traveler (myself) and the company in the bar seemed to be In the same boat as me. Hubby had a layover here so we came here looking for food! We had the teriyaki chicken and a miso soup. The teriyaki chicken bowl had about a pound of white rice, on top several vegetables including cabbage, red cabbage and carrot shreds. On top, the protagonist, the teriyaki chicken. Needless to say the rice was too much, vegetable was not seasoned at all, it was just vegetable. Teriyaki chicken was good, it just didn't cut it for me, I've had better. Miso soup was great! Certainly a great choice if you're in the mood for a teriyaki bowl or a 911 roll. There are two areas, a family dining room and a lounge. The dining area has about a dozen tables all with a view of the sushi counter. We originally sat near the large window, but as the sun sank lower in the ski it was blinding. We asked to switch tables and were given the thumbs up with no hassle. We started with the house hot tea and the 'famous' 911 roll. According to the description it had a blazing hot habanero mustard drizzle. I really liked the roll, but found it to be only mild by my admittedly insane notion of what hot is. My boyfriend was indifferent, but I've grown accustomed to that with him and Asian foods. When you grow up with a full blooded Korean mom, restaurant quality just doesn't compare. I ordered the beef teriyaki bowl with white rice and was satisfied. The beef was surprisingly tender and juicy - not the little dry strips I'm used to with other bowls. Since my boyfriend spied an eel bowl, that's what he ordered. I had no desire whatsoever to try a bite. Our waitress was always making rounds. She made sure we found everything to our liking, checking to see that we had a full tea pot, and got my boyfriend refills of Sriacha sauce. Walking into the restaurant it seemed very pleasant and clean. That had ample outdoor seating and I was hoping for a pleasant dining experience. We ordered Poke to start I asked for Avocado to be added. The portion size was ok but they just put adoçado slices on the side not chopped into cubes and added to the dish like I've had at every other sushi place I've been to. Ok not a huge issue but I was surprised. Next came our main order and this is the important part. My first bite of the spicy tuna roll and I immediately could taste that the fish was old. It tasted really fishy . Next the Salmon Nigiri was also old mushy not firm at all as well as being on the small side. I have to have the same comments regarding the yellow tail Nigiri The rice on the Nigiri was not seasoned correctly and was compressed into a hard wad making in not very appetizing and I just ended up taking the fish off of the rice I will give them.credit for a great dessert. However while waiting for our desert to arrive one of their guests dropped their to go box making a mess. Multiple staff just watched this poor girl clean up the mess while they stood in the corner chatting. . I was appalled that not one of them came over to help her and it was clear that they saw her. I recently moved to the area from the Portland/Salem area, and was craving sushi. The high ratings were promising, but ogawas proved a bit disappointing. We ordered takeout and they messed up half of our orders, in the first place. The teriyaki salmon wasn't seasoned as it cooked, neither were the battered and fried scallops. The noodles tasted.... old. The pokee nachos were pretty good, but that's about it. Overall decent, but don't expect flavors you can't get from the freezer section at Walmart. read more

I have been a customer of Ogawa's for over four years. This was one of my favorite restaurants in the valley until today. We were seated and immediately ordered after our drinks were written down. We then proceeded to wait around an hour and a half total for our food with no comment from our server. When my sister tried to get the attention of the server by making eye contact, waving, and talking, the server immoderately turned around. Giving her the benefit of the doubt I assumed possibly that she did not see us trying to get her attention. We waited so long that a bus boy came and asked us if we wanted him to take the stacked up plates on our table to which we replied "we actually haven't eaten yet". He was kind and went to check on our order. About 10 minutes later when we received our order of fried sushi rolls they were cold. Disappointed with service that we have never before received from Ogawa's we asked to speak with the manger. We ended up talking with the owner and she immediately began talking over me while I was still trying to explain to her in a calm, polite, and respectful manner about our situation. This resulted in us both talking at the same time for at least 10 seconds. She did not care about our experience at all. She tried to say "you're eating sushi today correct? Sushi is served cold" to which I replied I have been getting the fried Tabitha roll from your restaurant for years and it has always been warm. Hence why it is a fried roll. She had no reply to this. She made it seem as if we were trying to rip her off to get a discount. We did not go in to the restaurant with a mindset of "we will get a discount on our food". We simply wanted the great service and quality food that we had received before. Unfortunately today with the way that we were treated I do not know if I will be able to return to Ogawa's.
