I was excited to try this place out, since I love Japanese food, but also wanted to try some Korean and maybe some Thai items from the menu. I went with the gyoza for my appetizer, and for my main I went with Tonkotsu Ramen. Very delicious had a deep rich flavorful taste, the pork was very tender, and I love the bok choy as well as the eggs that were in it. My sister and brother-in-law ordered the vegetable egg roll and the Mongolian beef, which they also loved. Service was very friendly and helpful, Making suggestions as we ordered. Still a modest but solid lineup of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai staples. The Korean chicken wings are great. You get that classic Korean-style crispy crunch on the outside and plump, juicy meat on the inside. Five wings to an order, so it's more of an app than a main. And the beef drunken noodles are also a winner. Wide noods bathed in a savory light sauce surrounded by fresh sliced green peppers and your meat of choice. There were no leftovers. We went here for a very nice lunch. I have the spicy pork which came with kimchi and rice and my husband had the fish with sweet chili sauce. All of the food had nice flavor and spiciness. Earlier this month I checked out Ol Asian Bistro in Holland during tulip time! I was craving ramen so I was so excited to try their tonkatsu ramen and my friend got their kimchi fried rice. Their ramen was so good and filling so I had to take the rest to go. I've had tonkatsu before in GR and something different about this one was they had corn in it. It was an interesting addition, but overall loved the flavor of the broth. I highly recommend checking them out if you're in Holland for a mix of different Asian cuisines! read more

We got the Korean Fried Chicken, Beef Broccoli Pineapple, and Red Curry. The Korean Fried Chicken was really great (a dish I'd get again). Super crispy on the outside and enough meat on the inside. The Beef Broccoli Pineapple was quite good. Quite good but WAY overpriced. The blue highlighted dishes on the menu mean that they are the most expensive dishes in that set (which I thought was quite interesting and slightly humorous... but considerate of them??). I was curious about that dish because since it was $22, I expected it to be either a large portion, or a super delicious dish. It was good, but yeah... definitely not $22!! So overpriced! Red Curry was alright, a bit of a disappointment. We added chicken to it, but the content (bamboo shoot, bell peppers, chicken) was at a pretty minimal portion. I'd be open to trying more of their dishes (and getting their Fried Chicken again), but I'll pass on the other two dishes. Ambience was great - bright and big windows. I was surprised because they seemed to be super short of staff (especially how it was on a Saturday night). Maybe it was just a bad night to come in, but we needed to wait at least 5-7 minutes for a host to greet us. After sitting down, we waited for another 5 minutes for a waiter to come. Good food to be found here! I like the quietness of the restaurant more of an intimate vibe. They don't have outdoor seating. Chicken satay might be the best I've ever had. I had a rice dish I got because it featured kimchi. It was more sausage ( hot dogs) than kimchi. I would have liked a little more of the kimchi which was crunchy as I like it and flavorful. I tried the pineapple rice and found that absolutely delicious so I recommend that one. Crispy rolls were great too. My friend said the Thai tea was more like the tea you get in Thailand. Speculation that it wasn't from a mix and maybe brewed? Either way she said it was the best she has had here in Michigan. They were short staffed but they let us know and the server was attentive and great. I'm looking forward to a return visit. read more

It was the first day of Lunar New Year and I had just finished an event at Sperry's Moviehouse and wanted something to eat. I noticed OI Asian Bistro and after quickly reviewing their posted menu, Nate and I decided this would be a great place to grab a bite to eat before heading back to Grand Rapids. The dining area is bright and inviting and we were seated right away. The menu consists of lots of different Asian cuisine, from Chinese to Japanese, Korean, and Thai. It was tough for me to choose so I asked our server for a recommendation and she mentioned the ramen. It was a chilly day so that was perfect! Nate got the spicy pork stir fry, one of our favorite Korean dishes. We also started with the steamed rice rolls, which I've never seen on any menus in Grand Rapids, and some green tea. The steamed rice rolls were really interesting and tasty. The texture wasn't as smooth and silky as some photos I've seen of this dish but I still enjoyed it. They were stuffed with some meat and topped with crispy onions and came with a sauce. The main dishes were presented nicely and were large portions. My ramen had a whole egg and some ground meat as well as a slice of pork belly. The broth was super rich and savory, and the noodles were the perfect texture. The pork belly wasn't as tender as I would have liked, but it didn't really take away from the dish overall. The spicy pork stir fry wasn't the best we've had, but it was still tasty. I'd definitely come back to OI Asian Bistro to try more of their menu! read more

I found this place based on fb group I joined when we moved to Holland. This place was the most recommended the highest. They were right! We have gone back every week! The BEST Penang curry chicken ever. Fresh, heat level, veggies and chicken are all perfect. My husband always gets the Pho. He seeks this out at all Asian restaurants we try. Love this place! It's a great addition to downtown Holland. The food is always so flavorful, the meat is always tender, and their veggies are always so fresh. SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE, food was average at best. I have had better food at the local Chinese dive bar, and their food is way cheaper and tastes better. The whole time we were there, the waitresses were flirting with the guys behind the counter, while we were waiting for someone to just seat us and give us a menu. We did not even get any water after being seated for 15 minutes. This is unacceptable! We then waited another half hour before being able to order food (and yes the waitresses were flirting with the guys). Keep in mind, the restaurant only had one other family there, but they were taken care of better than us, while my family went ignored. After another 30 minutes of waiting, our food finally arrived and it was not even hot. It was luke warm at best and the taste was just average. And after getting our food, we were not offered any refills on drinks, because you guessed it, the waitresses were flirting with the guys behind the counter!! After eating a bit of the average food, I wanted my bill, and that took at least another 15 to 20 minutes of waiting, because guess what?? Take a good guess what the waitresses were doing. If you live in the area or are visiting Holland, Michigan from out of town, this is a must try for delicious, freshly- made, Asian-inspired food. This is a welcome addition to downtown Holland. It's a more upscale Asian restaurant that does a great job in offering a range of cuisines from Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese. I really liked how they picked a few of the most popular items and created a nicely represented menu. We went for the Vietnamese Spring Roll and the Crispy Roll to start. I ordered the Chicken Drunken Noodle and my cousin ordered the Pad Thai and her son the beef and broccoli. The flavors were all pretty solid and the food was piping hot, which might have made the noodles a little more over cooked than I prefer but still delicious. The service was good and the prices were reasonable. I am sure it is only a matter of time before they get super busy and there is a wait for seating and reservations needed. read more

We were fortunate enough to find this place while visiting the lovely beaches in the area. The location is a small part of the downtown area and can be easily missed. This would be unfortunate as it will be a destination spot for us in the future. The place was relatively empty when we arrived. We quickly got seated and our server was very nice. you do get a sense that it might be a family run business and it almost felt like we were interrupting them for dinner. Lol. There were several dishes ordered here and everyone of them was really good! I can say that we split the pineapple fried rice with everyone in the group and one person in our group loved it so much they wish they would've ordered it for their main meal. The general Taos chicken was the best I've had. The outside coating was crispy yet thin enough to not drown out the chicken. The sauce associated with it was flavorful but not too spicy. The beef plate that I ordered was probably the most expensive at $16, however it was really tasty. The meat was tender and super flavorful. The added vegetables in the plate just complemented everything. The various soup dishes were a bit spicy, so if you don't like spice, I would not recommend these. The pad Thai was good, however lacked a bit of flavor. It seemed everything was very fresh! I would highly recommend this place as a dinner or lunch spot. Fantastic place! It's always clean and the service is wonderful. Pros *Our food is always good. We've ordered and liked the Ramen, Pad Thai and General Tso's and liked them all. *Servers are great and owners are occasionally here and very friendly. *There isn't a ton of seating in the front but they also have a big room in the back which is great if you have a bigger party (or if you have kids that need some extra space to play!) Cons *Not many. The only thing I dislike are the swivel chairs. It just feels odd at a restaurant. That tells you I can't complain about a lot! I judge a business not on their mistakes, we all make them, but on how they handle their mistakes. Went in today with my family because of all the great reviews. First, the food all came out at different times, a good 20 minutes from the first entree arriving until the last entree arrived. Was told they 2 chefs and they don't work at the same speed. Second, the last entree brought out was Chicken Pad Thai. This was basically a vinegar flavored pasta with some overcooked dry chicken put on it, guess it took so long to get to the table because the chef was too busy over cooking it. Waitress asked me how the food was, and I told her that it had a strong vinegar flavor and the chicken was dry making it inedible. She apologized and went to tell the chef. When she came back she told me that the Chef said he made it right so they cannot take it off the bill or give me something else, then offered a free Thai Tea to go. I ended up paying over $100 4 people and they couldn't make one dish right that was clearly prepared wrong. Then to add insult to injury when the waitress brought out the bill she had added an 18% gratuity to it. Guess she knew that she messed up and wanted to make sure that she still got her tip. In summary if they make the food right, it's good, but when they mess up they will refuse to make it right and stick you with the bill. Terrible customer service, I highly recommend finding another place to eat in Holland. read more

I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant but unfortunately the customer service was anything but that. When we walked in today we were barley greeted. The restaurant was completely empty and the one lady who was working just sat up at the bar on her phone. When she noticed us we didn't even get a smile. She grabbed the menus, walked to the table and tossed them down and walked right back to the bar and sat down on her phone. We sat there for about 5 minutes without anyone coming by to see if we wanted to order anything not even a beverage....we ended up leaving thirsty and hungry. read more
