Mizu sushi is my go to for lunch or dinner when I'm in Downtown Holland. I came on a Friday night, this trip, and there was a 30 minute wait- put in my name and walked about the cute downtown area. Once I sat down, it took quick some time for the server to bring over water or greet me. I wasn't in a rush and did notice that they were VERY busy. They were kind and the food showed up very quickly. I got some nigiri, a roll, and seaweed salad. The fish quality is so fresh and the roll was delicious! This was by far the best sushi I have ever had. I had the nigiri and spicy salmon roll combo and it costed $25 which seemed moderately priced but then the pieces of fish on top were decently sized. The only downside to here is that the service was incredibly slow. We ended up having to go in and ask for our check because she never came back having getting our food. Our food took a while. It has always been good, but I've never been overly impressed with the taste, until today. Today, I got the Las Vegas roll, and it tasted like a delicious fried snack. Okay, I remembered to take pictures this time! I got the Soondubu (again) and the Rainbow #1 sushi roll. It was my first time getting sushi at Mizu, and I have to say... I was impressed! The rice was at a really great texture, the artificial crab meat was sliced up so nice and thin, the salmon and tuna tasted really great and flavorful... I was a happy and satiated girl!! This place is about a 3.5 star experience for me. So it rounds up to 4-stars. But been here a couple of times, I know it's a local favorite. Last visit we tried the Spicy Shrimp Dish, a couple of the popular rolls, and an Unagi Roll. So the waitress recommended the Spicy Shrimp dish, and I saw pics on Yelp and it looked good, and I have to say we were very pleased. It lived up to the visuals, it was very flavorful, plenty of shrimp, I would make this my go-to dish and I highly recommend. That was 5-stars hands down. The rolls - one was a fire / tempura roll? I forgot the names - sorry. Another was some spicy roll. Those were meh. They were okay, not too impressed, I only had a couple of each and they took the rest home. That was a downer for me - after a spectacular shrimp dish I was expecting similar with the rolls but didn't match. The Eel / Unagi I got was okay. It was quite small, couldn't really get that bbq taste. It wasn't bad but it did not wow-me. They also have an Unagi on Rice dish that looks great, but since this mediocre experience I am not as excited to try it. I am afraid I'll get the same so-so experience and that dish is nearly $20 I think. I'll have to think some more about that. I wish they had fresh wasabi - - an option I have seen but their wasabi was just okay, the usual paste. Freshly grated wasabi is an awesome experience and would help take this to the next level, hope they look into that. I think on one visit I had the Green Curry - and it was okay. I think it was loaded with coconut milk and really thick whereas I prefer not as thick and more robust flavor profile. This place can fill up and when it does it gets loud here. That was kind of a bummer but it was something I could deal with. Waitress was nice, attentive, gave good recommendations. Third time here so I will likely go back - definitely for that spicy shrimp dish. I may pass on the rolls. And I will still have to think about ordering more Unagi. While searching the are we are staying for our long weekend in Holland, MI we read the reviews and since it is a block from our hotel, we had to stop. We chose outdoor seating as the weather was perfect to enjoy the patio. Our server came by and while she was getting our drink order we perused the menu. I was convinced we were ordering a couple of rolls and maybe som edamame, but the menu changed our thinking pretty quickly. Started with Takoyaki ( deep fried octopus in wheat flour) followed with a small salad and Beef Udon for me, and my wife had the Beef Teriyaki Bento box. The food is plentiful, evidenced by our take home containers! Very favorable and savory we enjoyed everything we ordered and wished we had the opportunity to dig deeper into the selections. My friend and I had been here years ago and decided to check it out again. It was very busy when we went and I was understanding, but I was annoyed that the people to the left and right of us were being helped even though we were there before them. We waited a good 10 minutes before our waiter came over and told us the host didn't tell him he had a table waiting. I live close to Mizu and order from there weekly because the portions are healthy sized. I've been going to Mizu for over six years and have never had bad service. Everyone who works there is really kind, sweet, and welcoming. I know one of the chefs really well since I've been a regular for so long. Ordering online and picking it up doesn't take much time--it's quick and easy to get your food and leave. If you go there on the weekends and sit down for a meal, the wait can sometimes be a bit long, and online orders might take longer too, but it's definitely worth it.
