Great sushi place in Newtown! They are BYOB which is awesome! They recently relocated close to where they were. It seems a bit bigger now. If you are going on a weekend night I suggest reservations. I have never had any of the entrees, I always get sushi. The sushi is delicious and reasonable. I love their rainbow roll. Also, for their spicy tuna roll I like that ti is a solid piece of tuna which has spicy sauce on it rather than the way the rolls are regularly made. Great lunch specials also! Disappointed. Food was still good, portions a little different, but understandable and not drastically different. The disappointing part was the in dining experience. Before covid, used to enjoy coming here for a night out in a very hip and fancy atmosphere. That's no longer the case. The restaurant was brightly lit, tables were scarce and spread out, and at least a 1/4 or the restaurant was dedicated to barrels of supplies (20-30 buckets of soy sauce in clear sight) and take out orders scattered everywhere. Obviously no longer interested in making this a memorable dine in experience. It's a shame. Won't eat here again, but perhaps takeout. Like I said, disappointed. read more

Came in for lunch on Black Friday instead of shopping. I hadn't been in a while, and Oishi has been, yet again, renovated. It looks nice, it always has. There were some decent specials for lunch and I opted for the trio sampler (rock shrimp, tuna/salmon sashimi, california roll). The food was good. It has always been good. The service is another story. The servers were nice enough, I guess, but oddly forceful. The bill came out to $36ish for 3 of us, and we asked to split it evenly three ways. When the server came back with our receipts, each was billed for $18 and change. Now, I'm not that great at math, but I'm fairly certain 18x3 does not equal $36. He voided the transaction, but couldn't give us receipts for it. I know my way around a credit card machine and you can't even void something without it printing a receipt. I just looked at my bank statement and I've been charged twice. This is war. read more

The place smells unbelievable as soon as you walk through the door. We went here for lunch to meet a couple of my wife's Friends from grad school. Atsuko and her husband Akikho (sorry if I spelled it wrong). It was a little hard to find the correct shopping center, because there are like 5 very close together. The decor is all clean lines and simple, and not "crowded" feeling at all. All in all the food was acceptable. We pretty much stayed on the Japanese offerings. The contingent from Tokyo (Atsuko and Akikho) were not in the least impressed. For me it was a lot of little things; the miso soup was actually sweet, the rice in the sushi did not hold together well, the balance of flavors in general leaned toward sweet. Nothing was bad per se, but for the amount of $$ it was not as good as it should be. The service was on the slow side, but not terrible. Since we were talking it didn't matter so much, but if we were in a hurry it would have been irritating. This used to be my favorite restaurant but my experience on December30th left much to be desired. We had a party of 9 and were glad to be able to get a reservation and it was not busy that night, which is unusual in our experience. We had a couple orders of fried dumplings and all arrived just short of burned. When we sent them back we received less than a full order replacement because someone had tried one and found it unpalatable. A few of us had sushi and it was dry. Other meals were ok. It was difficult to get the attention of a waitress to address issues even though it was not busy. Water glasses got empty and we had to request to have them refilled. On another note, a pile of straws was put on our table without asking. If we were given the opportunity we would have declined them but since they are not wrapped we couldn't even give them back. First the Big News! Oishi is moving to another part of the Village of Newtown Shopping Center! They will be taking over the space formerly occupied by Basil Leaf and Lee's Hoagie House in the portion of the Center that has McCaffery's Supermarket. It will take several months for that to happen, but it received its conditional use approval from Newtown Township last week, so it will move forward. The space where the restaurant currently resides will remain a restaurant under the same ownership, but with a different orientation. You heard it here first. The current Japanese, Thai, Korean success story is about to write a new chapter. But, the old story is still a very good one. They still present some of the best sushi, sashimi, and true Asian fusion in Bucks County and the surrounding area. I returned there yesterday for lunch for the second time since joining Yelp. The ambiance remains hushed dark wood and stone tones that are very comforting and warm. The activity of the white hats behind the sushi bar continues to offer the sights and sounds of sharp steel knives on cool granite as the Zen of fish slicing and rice molding into seaweed wraps captures our attention and imagination. Quite a show! When the orders are sufficient to keep the fish ultra fresh, the production is razor fast and the taste sensational. Me? I love the Crunchy Tuna, but I am happy with whatever is put in front of me. The Wasabi and Ginger are also fresh, so the mix into the light soy sauce complement each other perfectly. Yesterday, my companions and I were in the mood for soup and noodles. Three had variations of soups with Udon, Tofu and Chicken. All looked great in the asymmetric bowls (see photo), and my Pad Thai, while bathed in a slightly unusual peanut sauce, was still quite good, although I do prefer the versions offered by Duck Sauce and Aroi Thai. We were all happy with our meals. Why not 5 Stars? The prices are a couple of bucks higher than the competition, and they did not bring tea to the table, nor inquire if we wanted any. The staff was courteous, but not particularly friendly, nor forthcoming with answers to our questions, nor suggestions. They seem to believe that they are working in the best place in Newtown for this cuisine, and perhaps there was a sniff of arrogance in their demeanor. I used to go to Oishi a lot but I have been avoiding it mainly bc of the service. I have experienced horrible service on multiple occasions. For the amount of money they charge, you would expect the service to be much better. At the very least it would be nice if the host was pleasant but they act as if they don't need your business. After reading reviews I am realizing I'm not the only one who has experienced issues with the service and the ridiculous wait. Especially when you order take out. I have learned that when you order pick up to give them at least an hour. I have made the mistake of believing the food will be ready in 30 minutes then I get to Oishi and have had to wait another 45 minutes for my pickup. I feel like they don't even start making the food until you get there to pick it up. Whenever I call in to place an order for pick up, the person who I usually speak with is very rude and never says thank you. I don't think I have ever gotten a thank you from the person after I pay for the pick up either. I hate the way they make you feel like your business isn't important or appreciated. The worst service experience I have ever had in any restaurant ever was at Oishi. Me and my two friends went here for dinner one night on a Friday night and we got there around 9 pm. I know that's close to closing but who cares we are paying customers and sushi doesn't take that long to eat. We had two bottles of wine that we had brought. Our waiter named Te or Teh something like that (if you get him go to another section!) he was the biggest a-hole I have ever experienced it was almost a joke. He gave us three disgusting wine glasses that all had obvious visible lipstick marks on them so we asked him for clean glasses and it seemed like he was annoyed by that from the very start. He was basically walking away as we were ordering. This was fine (at first) we could understand the guy wanted to get out of there it was Friday night and close to closing. Forgot to mention there were at least three other big parties in the restaurant, we weren't the only people there. There was a party of about 10 girls right next to us who he was waiting on so no matter how quick he wanted to get us out of there, he still had other tables that were hanging around. So fast forward through dinner bc he didn't check on us once so there's not much to say about his dinner service. Although he was standing in the section next to us and we watched him the whole time as he was drinking wine right out in the open. So he was probably drunk and that is probably why he was such an a-hole. We couldn't believe he was just drinking so casually right out in the open of the restaurant. But I guess that's how they do it at Oishi when it's getting close to closing. That's fine with me as long as you're still treating your customers like they matter. Finally Teh came over to our table to hand us the bill and then said to us hurry up and pay I'm trying to leave. Ha!!! Seriously? It was getting close to 10pm so it wasn't even closing yet. We were all blown away and we were like there's no way he actually just said that. So my friend asked him as he was walking by, "Excuse me, what was that that you said as you were giving us the check?" And then he said it again!! So we weren't going nuts! He actually told us to hurry up and pay so he can leave. Then he walked back over to his drinking station. What a douche bag. We were nice pleasant customers and he made us feel unwelcome and definitely unappreciated. So we paid the bill then asked him if he could open our other bottle of wine and he refused saying they were closing! However there were still multiple tables of people there. Hahahah. We were shocked by the service and gave him no tip, obviously. I've never not given someone a tip, even if they were horrible I always give something but this was another level of bad service. When we handed him the bill we explained to him why we didn't give him a tip and told him we had never had a waiter as rude as him and he was totally cool with it. He just said ok. When we left we were going to tell the host guy but then I remembered he could care less too bc he treats you like he's too busy for you. So I figured it was a lost cause. Best thing to do is just avoid going here. Overall - Service- HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Food- Decent. I've been here several times in the last 5 years. Not because I like the place, but because I live in town and could be considered a captive audience, especially on a weekday. Every time I leave here I am disappointed with how much I paid and how mediocre the sushi is. it leaves me wishing I just drove out of town to a better sushi restaurant for the price. Where do I start? The rice on the sushi is always inconsistent. some days its decent, other times I feel like it just came out of a rice cooker with no sushi prep. The special rolls either skimp out on the fish, or drown the mediocre quality of fish thats present with some type of "creative" sauce. The standard rolls are also subpar. At a good sushi restaurants the standard sushi rolls and nigiri sushi showcases the quality of fish and good rice quality/texture/mixture and attention to detail of the chefs. At oishi, its all... meh. Sashimi and nigiri fish slices are cut thin too. substance is substituted by flare from the creative rolls, and corners are cut everywhere that sushi actually matters. The cooked meals are decent. I've had the beef bulgoki, royal oishi salmon filet and they are generally good values. the wakame salad is the same stuff you get at pretty much every other japanese restaurant, and the miso soup is equally mediocre. I'm convinced that all the people who write reviews raving about Oishi are swindled by the nice decor, swankiness of the restaurant and decent service. (this place is the definition of douchey sushi). They are are willing to pay top dollar and ridiculous prices for mediocre-at-best quality sushi because they don't know any better, or live too far from philly and the legitimately good sushi places in the suburbs like Sagami, Fuji in Haddonfield or Umai in Blue Bell. At first I thought I was just being a sushi snob ( I travel to Japan 3 times a year and I make sushi at home) and thought i should taper my expectations, however the 3 restaurants i mentioned are all in the suburbs and all offer better quality sushi and creativity at the same or cheaper price! This place isn't bad if you're in the area and desperate for sushi, but it's too expensive for what it is. The restaurant substitutes substance for flare. Do not get *actual* sushi here. Sorry, but this place is shitty. I don't know what the hype is about. The texture of the sashimi is literally nasty. The rolls are ok, but you'd be better off going to Ota-ya in Newtown or Ooka in Doylestown. Even Mirim, by the mall, which gave me WORMS, was better than this place, I'm dead serious. The price just isn't justified for the quality. Do yourself a favor, leave the Newtown bubble, and find a real sushi place that offers quality fish. While the sushi was great, Its not worth the time or gas money. We were the last table to be seated at 9:00. We ordered appetizers, sushi and entrees. They brought the sushi with the appetizers because the sushi chefs were evidently done preparing sushi for the evening. Good thing we didn't want any more sushi! At 9:25 the entire kitchen crew was lined up and seated at the counter in front of the sushi bar, eating! While the decor was pleasant, the atmosphere was a little stringent. There were open, iron partitions between tables. They may may have been asthetically pleasing but they allowed my 15 year old daughter to hear the sexual turn-ons of the 20-something guys sitting next to us. Got to hear the F-Bomb about 50 times! My best friend and I went to this place to try it out because we have been going to the same place for a very long time and wanted to compare. We decided we would get our usual. Miso Soup; Edammame, California Roll, and Spicy Tuna. The miso soup had no flavor whatsoever. The Edamame was hard. The california rolls were just OK at best. The Spicy Tuna roll was AWFUL. We ate one piece each and that was it. I told the waitress we did not like it at all and did not want anymore of it. She asked why and I explained. Well I loved my chicken green thai curry, it was perfect flavors with no spiciness and great veggie combination. Everything else was really meh. On a Saturday night there was a 30 min wait, another 10 min inside after we put our name down, and then another 15 min before someone came up to take our drink order. It's fine if the place is busy, but at least being acknowledged would've been nice. Entrees come with soup or salad, the salad was average. I tried the pad thai and it was terrible, probably one of the worst I've ever had. There was a weird after taste and flavor that threw off the whole dish, and also the noodles seemed way off. Everything is amazing here. I have to dine in at least 4 times a month just to satisfy my cravings for everything on the menu. Chef Sae salad and seaweed salad #2 is my favorite appetizer to start with but the beef fried dumplings are also really amazing. The dynamite chicken is also REALLY good--the sauce is like crack..so addicting. When dining out with friends, we also like to share the crispy chicken or crispy combo--it's the right amount of sweetness and crispiness. All of their sauces are out of this world including the Oishi mayo, Spicy mayo, spicy sauce, Sae salad dressing, house salad dressing, and everything in between are all handmade in the back everyday and no one knows the recipe except for the owners. They could probably make more bank selling the sauces in bottles. My main course is always one of the following: Chicken Pad Thai, Beef Gopdol, Sashimi Bibimbap, Shrimp Tempura Supreme #1 and #2, Sae #2, Spider roll, any of the spicy crunchy rolls, cucumber handrolls, and everything else in between! The bulgogi chicken and beef is a great spin off of Korean food. In fact, the beef bulgogi is KOREAN but I prefer the Galbi at Oishi. Ask for the Galbi appetizer-It's not on the menu but it's delicious. If I lived any closer to Oishi I would be a 200 pound woman. read more

Order a roll that's not fried and you will the very this slices of fish. Also their fish quality is low grade. Tasteless. My wife and I go to Oishi for the great Korean food. Their beef Bulgoki is very flavorful and filling and the gop-dol-bi-bim-bap is excellent. Also, don't forget about their Oishi spicy soup. Wow! We've been going there for almost 10 years and the owner has been so gracious, often sending us little dishes to thank us for being long-time customers. In their recent menu, they added some Chinese dishes which are vastly better than any other Chinese in the area. Oishi is one of the best sushi places I have ever been too. Deep in the heart of Bucks County, you might think you won't find fresh, delicious Sushi. But if that's what you think, you would be wrong! I have eaten here dozens of times and have never once been disappointed. The Spicy Crunchy rolls are unlike anything you've had before (not just lame panko crumbs like other sushi places) - definitely give it a try! My other favorite roll is Screaming Spicy II. Don't be afraid to come with non-sushi lovers either, they have a ton of korean dishes for those who might not like raw fish! Definitely always make a reservation. This place is PACKED any day of the week, especially on the weekend. On Saturday, we had a reservation for 10 people at 8:45 but unfortunately did not get seated until 9:30. After being seated with 2 bottles of wine in hand, we had to wait nearly another 10 minutes for water, wine glasses and to have our wine opened......nice. So it has nearly been an hour since we were to be seated and not even water had been offered. I was now severely annoyed. Since service was basically non-existent, I didn't have any hope for the food. However, the food is good enough to help build towards redemption. The sushi was fantastic and the Pad Thai was delicious. I had the dragon roll, spicy crunchy salmon, unagi, and some others - they were all great. I like Oishi very much, but they're overpriced and I wish the sushi rolls were larger. Service can be slow for sushi, but that's to be expected at peak hours. Excellent sushi at a reasonable price!! Went with a friend for dinner. As I perused the menu I was impressed with the breadth of choices. This is a mixed asian cuisine menu- you can get bibimbap (which a neighboring table was having and it smelled AWESOME), pad thai, teriyaki, etc. It is a BYOB, too, which definitely is a plus. We started with the fried tofu, a personal favorite of mine. It was light with a great texture and perfect seasoning. The beef negimaki was also perfectly cooked and incredibly tasty. Our sushi rolls were all AWESOME!!! We were definitely stuffed by the end of our meal. I certainly will be back to try more of this menu!! read more

Front-desk staff can be very cool, but usually they're stressed out since this is the only decent upscale restaurant in Newtown. It's owned by a Korean husband and wife, and they do good things with the noodle dishes and vegetables, but the sushi is not high grade. They use fake wasabi and ginger, and haven't changed their chef's selection of sushi in like 10 years. It's the standard salmon, tuna, yellowtail, cooked shrimp, etc. That said, I should highlight again that their cooked dishes are very good, and they have a cool vegetable supreme roll that uses a soy paper as wrapping. I haven't gotten around to writing a review on Oishi, and I'm not quite sure why. Every time I go to this restaurant, it's spectacular. The owner is a very nice man and pleasant to talk to. Now to the food: Miso/Salad: Their miso is good, nice broth. Their ginger salad dressing is delicious and since I tried that I can't go without it each time I visit Oishi. Sushi: I've probably eaten about 50% of the sushi on their menu and I haven't tried one roll I disliked. Their eel rolls are my favorite. If you don't mind, sit at the sushi bar, it's a great experience to watch them assemble the food. Thai: The first time I came to Oishi I ordered the Pad Thai, because I've had it in other places and I was used to it. I haven't ordered anything else on the entrée menu but Pad Thai. I've tried, trust me I have, but it's way too good to pass up. They've ruined it for me, though, because I cannot order Pad Thai anywhere else anymore! Absolutely excellent, 10/10, every time. Consistency is key in a restaurant, and they have it. The waiters/waitresses are attentive. Oishi is busy a lot, but they do a great job at balancing everything. By far the best sushi in the Langhorne/Newtown area! Always very fresh! The Sophia Roll is a go to favorite of ours.

Chef Sebu and his sons have built this temple to the sushi gods who blessed him with an artist's sense of color, a chef's palette and a clever curiosity for blending textures. What this means for the adventurous diner is a wonderous dining experience and fun time. This was my second visit and our group sat right in front of Sebu the Great and his band of fastidious fish folders. We had gyoza, scallops with lemon, ama ebi, an amazing assortment of special rolls and the fun of watching this assembly line construct some colorful and tasty morsels. This was a Sunday night and they were packed. If you're up for adventure, Oishi (which means delicious in Japanese) should be your destination. read more

We went here for an impromptu lunch. The atmosphere was very nice and clean. The service was friendly and prompt. The sushi was average - nothing exciting, but there were some different types of rolls that I have never had before on the menu. I also liked that they had an iced green tea - which is not something I usually find even in Asian restaurants. Not sure what the fuss is about this place. I haven't tried the sushi yet, so perhaps it is amazing, but what I ordered definitely was not. I was feeling a little under the weather so I got takeout of a Thai coconut soup with chicken and a shrimp shumai. First, when I entered the restaurant, I actually had to push through a group of waiters congregating at the host stand chitchatting. The group broke up with pretty obvious resentment and the host was pretty cold in dealing with me. The soup was $5, teeny tiny, and frankly kind of gross. I actually ate it standing next to my kitchen sink so that I could conveniently spit out the fatty or non-edible pieces of old chicken that I encountered. The shrimp shumai were okay, although I would describe the taste as more of a mixed white fish than shrimp. I'm pretty skeptical that any shrimp is contained in this particular menu item. And again, teeny tiny for $6. Final judgment: $12 total for a miniscule amount of food that wasn't even good. I will have to seriously consider whether a return trip to try the sushi is merited. read more

I have been going to Oishi since it was a hole in the wall next GNC. It holds a special place in my heart - they popped my sushi cherry and I am forever grateful. What used to be a small family run business quickly expanded to a trendy modern dining experience. I have yet to find sushi that can compare to the flavors you'll experience at Oishi. Despite the fact that my family has gone there religiously (sometimes multiple times/week) for over 10 years, I can't get enough of my favorites: Apps and Starters: Dok Bok Ki - I never thought rice cakes and stir-fry vegetables could be so delicious. The homemade Korean Chili sauce is spicy for some, but absolutely delicious. Avocado Oishi - avocado lovers rejoice! Straight up avocado with a miso dressing that tastes like heaven. You'll want to lick the bowl - no shame. Sushi: Spicy Crunchy Cucumber Handroll - Tuna, tempura crunchies, and Chef Sae's spicy sauce (the red one, not the mayo) perfectly wrapped in cool crisp cucumber - I am salivating just thinking about it. This place has AWESOME sushi, hot dishes, and flavorful and well-executed side dishes and is in my top three favorite restaurants. The service is impeccable, the environment is lavish, and the food is just so fresh you feel as though you are being treated like royalty. I've had almost everything on the menu and would say confidently I've never had anything less than a 9.5/10 here. Among my favorites are the chicken pad Thai, beef Thai soba, chicken udon, spicy salmon roll, shrimp tempura supreme, and their specialty seaweed salads. The best part about this place is the price. Take, for example, Morimoto, where, of course, the food slightly edges out Oishi's (but only by the narrowest of margins). Despite almost identical quality, Oishi manages to serve food at about half the price of this famous five star restaurant AND their portions are about twice as big! The best deal on the menu are their noodle dishes, where you get the whole noodle dish itself (with chicken, beef, or seafood), as well as a soup or salad, for somewhere in the range of 12-15 dollars. How can you beat that?! I will continue to frequent this place as much as I can and recommend it to anyone who is looking for quality Asian food. read more
