Great tasting ramen!…read more My family and I made this place a pit-stop for dinner on a Sacramento to Los Angeles trip. Our original target was the Fresno location, but due to a GPS entry error, we ended up at their Clovis location! It was a little longer drive than usual, but still well-worth the drive. And besides, we were on a family long weekend break so who cares about distance... Our orders were quickly taken on the counter and we were off to find our table. A lot of places to choose from inside and outside seating was also available. And the place was nicely decorated and well-lit! Feels comfortable to dine inside! The menu was quite expansive. And you even have the choice of minor changes to the regular menu. I ordered an Oxtail Ramen...a first of this kind for me, so I just had to have it. And it passed with flying colors! Weird ingredient...but absolutely tasty! And at a really affordable price range! You just have to try our this place when you're in the area! You will love it!

High hopes. Didn't completely hit the mark…read more You order at the counter, then they bring the food out to your table. Staff was friendly, though it was very little interaction. Good amount of tables and seats. Simple, minimal decor and it was clean, from what I can remember. He got the Shoyu Ramen (#2) and I got the Spicy Miso Ramen (#4). We both agreed the broth wasn't as hot as we'd like and could use just a touch more flavor. Both were okay, but I preferred my broth more. I wish I paid attention to the fact that mine came with THIN noods though... I feel like I would've enjoyed my dish way more with thick noodles. To be honest, I should have done the build-your-own Ramen and selected everything I wanted myself... now I know. You live and you learn. The Wontons were good but we didn't eat much of it, as it came out the same time as the ramen. Once the ramen was served, our main focus was on that and that filled us up! Packed the rest to go. For this being our first time, it wasn't bad but it didn't wow us. If I'm being honest, so far-- the best Ramen we've ever had was in a small little shop we found while in Thailand back in March (yup, Thailand!). Unfair to this rating maybe? But-- every ramen I try will be compared to that now (sorry, it was THAT good). Until next time, which there will be a next time (just unsure how soon that will be)... they get a middle placement.

Our special day was made even more special by a wonderful blend of delectable menu options,…read morethoughtful service and ambiance. The menu presented extensive and adventurous options that as first timers could have been intimidating but with the help of Donavin our delightful server, we selected the perfect seafood salad for the Mrs. and the curated selection of Maki (delicious sushi "tacos") that together made for the perfect share. Add to that a smooth Japanese beer and a surprisingly moderate overcast that made our dinner on the patio the perfect way to celebrate our first meeting 47 years ago. There were so many other tempting menu options that we'll look forward to sampling on our next for sure visit. Hopefully we will have the pleasure of having Donavin as our server even though our observation is that all the young people serving are helpful and gracious . Having read about Oiza in the CVLUX magazine, I can honestly say our experience so grandly exceeded our expectations my wife wants to submit her own review!

We chose to commemorate it by having dinner at O-iza and what a wonderful choice it was! As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were immersed into the a serene and beautiful environment characteristic of the Japanese culture. The young ladies that greeted us and then ushered us to the patio were lovely and gracious. It was then that we met Donavin who became our adept curator for the evening. He effortlessly, patiently and with insight matched our curiosities and tastes to the perfect menu choices. We quickly realized that we were barely scratching the surface of the delightful selections that the menu has to offer. That means we need to return and continue our exploration. Hopefully, we again will have Donavin to guide us. We would like to thank the entire staff for a most pleasurable evening. Nancy M. Ramentas

She even took the menu out of my hand while I was still asking a question and finishing my order, which came across as quite rude. Thankfully, the rest of the experience more than made up for it. Our Teppanyaki chef was charismatic, entertaining, and made the meal a lot of fun. Best of all, the food was absolutely delicious! I would definitely come back for the chef and the great food--I just hope for better service next time.

Their spring salad was pretty boring and it lacked complexity Miso soup typical uninventive They gave me a cucumber salad with crab that I really liked it came with my chiriashi My chiriashi : Presentation fantastic Quantity of fish fantastic The bed of rice was kind of cold. I would've preferred warmer fresh rice. I ordered fresh wasabi root It was a bit chunky. We've been to Shobu twice now, and it's quickly become one of our favorite Japanese restaurants…read more What I love most is the variety on the menu. Whether you're craving sushi, teriyaki, or ramen, they really have something for everyone. The sushi and sashimi are incredibly fresh -- honestly some of the freshest fish we've had at any sushi restaurant. It tastes like the chef went out and caught it that morning. The 14-piece sashimi platter with a couple of rolls was more than enough for two people, and everything was excellent quality. The ramen is also fantastic, but fair warning: the bowls are HUGE, so definitely come hungry. Their garlic edamame is absolutely addictive, and we really enjoyed the poke in the seaweed poke salad, though the dish does lean very heavily on the seaweed, so just keep that in mind before ordering. Cassidy is new to the restaurant and waited on us. an Shewas wonderful -- super friendly, attentive, patient, and just genuinely great service all around. The only downside was the new menu design. The font is extremely tiny, printed on a small laminated sheet, and honestly very difficult to read. Hopefully they make the text larger in the future because the food itself is outstanding. Overall, highly recommend Shobu if you're looking for fresh sushi, excellent sashimi, hearty ramen, and great service.

Being Japanese, my Grandma typically craves Japanese food and only goes to places she enjoys. I wanted her to branch out, so I selected this spot. When we entered, the vibes were a bit off. It was summer in the valley, and it was hot. There was no AC inside, just fans, and we were literally sweating during our entire meal. It was quiet, very dark, and not clean--sticky floors and menu. The service was nice, but not very attentive. Regarding the food, we got two Bento Boxes and one Caterpillar Roll. For the price, the portion was good, but the quality and taste weren't the best. The tempura was really thick, and the shrimp was reminiscent of the frozen Costco shrimp tempura. The sashimi was stringy and of poor quality. The rolls we had were falling apart, and the avocado was mushy and not fresh. Everything we had was subpar at most, which is a shame considering how vast the menu is (lol at their AI pictures though). I wouldn't come back nor recommend what we got. Good Japanese food can be hard to come by in Fresno. I'd skip Shobu Japanese Cuisine due to the food quality and environment. Find them off Blackstone Ave. in the shopping complex with free parking.
