Sushi isn't bad... but very poor service, grilled stuff usually overcooked & and skimpy dumplings. It pains me to give a poor tip... I am regularly a very good tipper, but tonight, I left $4 on a $97 bill. And a little note, which I hope will serve to educate for future diners. (note shared later) What rocks about this place is 1. the location (tons of traffic with the APEX center right there) 2. the decor, LIGHTING and atmosphere is very nice... very cool/different/imaginative lighting. 3. The Sushi is a little above average and you can tell they at least try to please (tip of the cap to the sushi dudes there) HOWEVER, after going for the 4th time now in about a year, they REAAALLY need a coach to come in and teach the staff how to be more customer-aware. I even felt a little bad before posting this and did some research to see "how late is too-late to show up before closing?" This Monday evening, my family was working hard all day and we knew we were going out to eat for dinner, but come 8:50pm we looked around and almost everywhere in Marlborough closes at 9pm.... Okami, is 1 of the few who lists 10pm as their closing hour. So we raced there and walked in at 9:18. You would think this is a decent enough time right?? (btw I googled and most servers agree anything up to 15 mins before closing in acceptable - we were 42 MINS BEFORE CLOSING) There were still 2 parties there in main dining room and we asked to sit in the bar. We were quickly ordering 5 mins later ~9:24... around 5 apps & 3 maki rolls... we knew we still wanted 2 more dishes and said so & said we'd decide in a minute or 2, the female server, who was already moving around hastily /doing closing activities (although having no other customers) then made a point to mention that the last order is taken at 9:30 but that she would 'take care of it' for us... at this point, I am still feeling fine and sympathetic.. within 2 mins we decide we'll complete our order with a steak teriyaki dinner and a veggie lo mein. SO.... I see her chatting with a co-worker at the hostess station and wait 3 mins... I then decide to get up and walk over to help expedite because at this point it is 9:28... they SEE me standing there, smiling, menu in hand... but their heated conversation in Chinese or Japanese (sorry idk) is obviously more important that her lone remaining customer??... there is also a delivery driver sitting there waiting... he witnesses their blatant lack of tact/social awareness/tip-garnering skill and gives me a smile+eye-roll. My partner eventually walks in and interrupts their loud, non-english conversation to place our 2 remaining orders. About 30 seconds later our food is being brought out hurriedly by random kitchen staff. The food was tasty and even though we had no plates, we were happily eating trough style... when the server rushed by later I asked for plates but they were never brought.... she was wiping counters and putting things away etc. The other staff is starting to emerge and we are the only non-employees there... They shut off almost all the lights and you can't help but feel unwanted and rushed. HA! - oh yeah, the server then asked - "were you working late tonight... that why you came so late?" We had a little food left and asked for a takeout container and stated that we would like to do it ourselves, but then a min later she grabbed the plate before we could say anything. THEN... I started a timer on my phone... it was ~9:51pm, we waited over 6 mins for her to return from less than 20 yards away... how long does it take to flomp one small plate of food into a container? Anyway, if they were in that much of a hurry, why not expedite the food and bill to us?? WE WERE YOUR ONLY TABLE. I bring the check up to the register and the whole kitchen is crowded around the register. Sorry so long. POINT IS - Other than 1 time out of 3 visits (where we had a skilled & attentive server - an american Male btw) every visit we have not felt well cared for.... and especially this last time, if you're going to treat your customers differently during the last hour, then change your hours... because that's that many LESS future customers you're going to have. My note simply said something like, "if you don't want customers after 9, then change your hours". AND - the SKIMPIEST peking ravioli ever! .... make those puppies fatter! on a positive note, when we went for teppanyaki in previous visits... the meat was all overcooked, but the steak we ordered tonight was cooked right at med-rare... the food was tasty.... but the service was very poor and illogical/insensitive. read more

If I could give zero stars this is it . We entered this place at 5pm on the dot , we decided to do a quick hibachi dinner before going out for the night . We got sat down and surprisingly were the only people in the whole restaurant . I thought how perfect what could go wrong right ? Yeah well fast forward to 5:40 and the chef still had not came out due to the "grill not being hot" whatever that means . The only thing that was brought out to us was the drinks . We finally caught a gentleman and told him to bring us the check for the drinks and we wanted to cancel the food order as it had been a long 40 mins with no sign of nothing . As soon as we told him to cancel he went to the back and another gentleman came out with "soup" . We looked at it and pushed it aside . When our waiter finally came out she asked why we're leaving and we said we had no time we needed to go , she insisted we stayed and would tell the chef to hurry but we declined and AGAIN asked for the bill for the drinks . She was bothered and walked away . When she came back she left the receipt and when we opened it she had charged us 35 dollars ! We ordered two Shirley temples and a happy birthday cocktail , or at least that was all that was brought out to us when we asked them to cancel the order . But she had gone and added the soups and salads . I immediately informed her that those soups were just brought out to the table after we had already told them to cancel the food order and as far as the salads why would she include that in the bill if they were never brought out at ALL . She kept going back and fourth that the soups were already served so we had to pay for them and the salad comes with the soup so we had to pay for those too . We went back and fourth about how I was absolutely NOT paying for anything on that receipt other than the drinks and she could call her manager or who ever she wanted and she finally went back and adjusted the bill , by far the most ridiculous experience I've ever encountered at a restaurant, these people are scammers beware . read more

Very bad customer service, most of the employee are disrespectful and don't listen to the customer. Asked for one thing and got another and got charged extra for it. I am not a huge fan of Teppanyaki, but my Hubby really likes it so we decided to try. The place is really cool with the lights and neon and the drinks were pretty good. The food was fresh, but all was a bit on the bland side. (Fried rice was just soy and a bit of butter.) The chef's show was kinda so-so, he was very attentive to the children at the table though. I had lobster and scallops and the seafood was fresh (Scallops were good, but bland. Lobster got a bit tough as it cooked too long.) Soup was really good. Chicken and mushroom and not the usual salty miso. Salads were pre-made and the dressing was a watery puddle at the bottom of the bowl. Coconut shrimp appetizers were not freshly made and were so hard and chewy (do not order!!) The spicy tuna roll was good, but I am spoiled and like feng's so much more. Over all Meh, but we will try the hibachi next time. I think next go around will be to try ginger garden in Marlborough. Or go to Sachi in westborough (The place we usually go to for this type of food.) read more

I went to this shithole on Saturday 3/9 for my birthday. The day BEFORE I made a reservation for 18 people. I didn't want people to feel obligated to pay the outrageous hibachi prices so we said we'd request the dining area. My whole party was on site before 8 PM. As of 840PM my table was still not available. I went up to the hostess 3 separate times asking when we'd be seated. Although almost all of the tables in this area were empty they were waiting for 1 table to leave. They kept saying "5 min, 5 min". Well 40 minutes later was long enough. We waited in the bar area for a drink while we continued to be ignored because they had 1 bartender working who put all of their attention on those who were seated in the hibachi area. Only 5 out of the 18 of us got a drink while waiting. They said the people that were priority were the people that walked in. That's not how it works. What is the point of making a reservation if you're just going to be pushed off. We all went across the street for dinner instead. Save yourself the pain and lack of attention and eat elsewhere. They don't care about their customers. read more

A bunch of Japanese Restaurants have opened in the area recently but by far OKAMI is the best. It's steps above the rest in terms of offerings and quality. I got the gyoza which was light and flavorful. I also got two rolls of sushi. You could taste the freshness. The quality of the nori was also much higher. It wasn't paper thin like the other places and you could actually taste it's part of the roll which just adds dimension to the flavor. I settled on the tempura udon for the entree. Great choice! The tempura was light and crispy and not oily at all. The shrimp and vegetables were cooked well and the udon was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be going back. read more

Honestly service was horrible. The man making the Hibachi was funny and nice. But food had a weird taste to it kinda like frost bite. And the server that brought our drinks over was extremely rude. She gave us the check And stood there waiting for us to give her money and when we gave her the money she told us to tip her more than what we have already gave her. Extremely extremely rude. We came here for a birthday and the service was terrible. Go ANYWHERE else in the area but here!! It was a Friday night and the place was dead but for some reason they were rushing us out like we were a bother to them. We were sat at a table with other people and they were rushing us to eat our appetizers. The food is not great compared to any other hibachi place and they sung to my boyfriend for his birthday and brought out ice cream (we didn't ask for this) which you would think is a nice gesture but when we got the bill they charged us for it! We didn't even ask for this so you shouldn't be charging people for what they didn't order. After we finished eating the waitress kept trying to rush us out. Also they add tip to your bill no matter what. Be careful of this place all they want is your $$ never will we go back. read more

Decided to come try here for dinner with my husband. The sushi took a while to come after we ordered it. It was decent but not worth the price. One thing we really had a problem with was the atmosphere. It's more of a "party " like atmosphere instead of a sushi restaurant. Everytime someone has a birthday in the hibachi area, disco lights in the are started and loud happy birthday music played over the speakers to the entire restaurant. It was very loud and disturbing. First time. Last time. No fresh leches or leche juice for Leche Martini. Served my role on the same plate crammed between my friends 2 rolls. I would like my own fkn plate for my own food. Ridiculous. Asked for another plate to put my food on...gave me a warm plate....for raw sushi! Didn't add the spicy mayo I ordered. Ordered tobiko on my roll and received a splattering. I could count the eggs. I do not eat cooked fish with my sushi and without indicating it I received cooked eel on my raw fish roll. Gross. I sent it back and didn't eat. I ordered the side of steak for $10. Rare. I received cut up bits of meat rare to medium well. Don't waste your money or time if you want a good sushi experience. read more

Extremely disappointed after dining at Okami 2 nights in a row the second night our order came out and was incorrect, before touching it we advised server the order was wrong the supervisor came over our table and advised once the food is cooked they can not return! I was completely disappointed as the order was WRONG and they refused to rectify will not be dinning at this restaurant again, the customer service was poor and no attempt at fixing the issues. read more

I met a friend at the restaurant for hibachi. We were the only two seated at the table and the server took our drink order. A group of five came in and were seated at our table and they informed the server of a seafood allergy. We also ordered some sushi as appetizers, which came after the soup/salad combo. Then the chef came out and did not appear to listen well, or understand well, how the food was to be prepared since the steak was not prepared to the correct temp and the portions were different for each of us. Unfortunately, the chef was not very animated or interactive when doing his show and forgot all about the seafood allergy when the broccoli toss started. His aim for the saki was horrible and my hair and shirt were visibly wet afterwards. Even the sauces were not on par with the other hibachi restaurants I have been to. The food wasn't bad, but when the bill came I decided to only tip 10% because I wasn't really impressed. After all a tip is something extra to show satisfaction....or so I thought. The server came back to me and asked me if everything was ok and I said that it was just ok. He said I did not tip enough since he has to pay the cook and that it is standard to pay 18% for a group. I reminded him I was only a party of two, but doubled my tip anyway out of embarrassment. We likely would have stayed to order another glass or two of wine, but this changed our minds and now we have both decided that we will not go back. read more

I have been here twice. The overall atmosphere is really nice. They have copper looking floor tile, cool light displays and just overall modern decor. The welcome staff was friendly both times as well. The first night I went there, the waitress we had was NOT personable at all. She snatched our menus from our hands with some attitude behind it (don't really know how else to explain it). She barely came over to check to see if we needed anything and was very slow or would maybe forget to bring us refills. I ordered both sushi and hibachi each time. The sushi was amazing both times. I'd say that the spicy mayo is a bit more spicy than other ones I've had, and the waitress even said it was mild. It was not mild. Maybe a high medium. Anyway, I got shrimp hibachi the first time, it was a bit dry. Who knew u could dry out shrimp. The noodles were delicious! The second time, I got filet and shrimp and it was perfect! I would go back again for sure. I just hope I don't get the rude waitress. read more
