Love the ambiance, you feel like you're in a big city, definitely not South Bend. I came with my boyfriend and we were seated right away despite there being many people standing by the hostess stand, apparently a large party waiting to be seated. Unfortunately we were completely ignored at our table. Several other two-tops got seated and the large party and they were all attended and even got their drinks before anyone greeted us or got our drink order. Eventually we moved tables to something more in the center of the dining room and still no one came to us. It wasn't until I flagged down a group of servers and food runners chit chatting by the corridor to the bathroom that someone finally came to our table. It's a shame the service sucked because the food was delicious. I loved my plum wine and spicy creamy V ramen. I added some extra veggie toppings which I think gets ridiculously pricey considering the ramen is already priced kind of high. My boyfriend had the chicken wings and white rice. He seemed to have enjoyed it. The following time I ordered delivery to avoid the spotty service we received last time. The packaging was great and it arrived early and was nice and hot. The V red fire opal ramen was DELICIOUS. And I'm absolutely obsessed with the matcha tiramisu. Delectable. I still want to try the Flying V harvest ramen. I appreciate they have several vegetarian options, considering the majority of the menu contains pork. Perhaps the next time I dine in and the service is improved they'll get that 5th star. read more

If you like Ramen, you already like Jinya! The service is fun. They greet you when you enter and leave. The place has a cool hip feel and is comfortable to chill at. All the food I've had has been good. I try to get different things every time im there and am always pleased. Pricing is very fair given the quality and atmosphere. Glad to see things like this in South Bend. I think people enjoy it and it compliments the area. read more

A great option if you're craving something warm and yummy. Stopped by on a Monday evening around 7 and surprisingly it was pretty busy. We did have to wait about 20 minutes. The place isn't too big but since the food comes out fairly quick, the turnaround time for seating isn't too bad. We ordered 2 of the Spicy creamy vegan, one of the impossible buns and the miso glazed eggplant. We really enjoyed the Vegan ramen, it was the right amount of spice with a delicious broth. The eggplant was also very good as well, it does have furikake on top. The impossible buns were just ok. Service was friendly, food came out pretty fast. Overall a good experience. read more

We planned on coming here for my birthday. A larger expenditure for us, we don't go out too often. The menu was extensive and food beautiful. I ordered a beautiful mocktail that was served tableside, very delicious, beautiful and impressive. Food was good. They had one children's menu dish, it was large and had soo many types of food that most kids would find something they'd eat. However, I had a dirty ramen spoon, it happens, but no one at our table besides my 6 year old was ever offered a fork. I can't use chopsticks well. I was just diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis so it was almost impossible to eat. Waitress was kind, but never checked on us once. No refills, nothing. They shout something in Japanese when you enter, exit, or order matcha apparently. At the end of the meal, I'm guessing the manager took over our table. She brought out our check. We were never offered dessert, I was REALLY REALLY wanting dessert. She never smiled, asked how it was, didn't ask us to come back, didn't make eye conact. Nothing. Now. My Ramen cost $17. My drink $9. There were 5 of us. We never ordered alcohol. Is that why she treated us like urchins? To me, being comfortable and feeling like I'm welcome is soo important to me. We went a couple weekends ago on a Sunday at like 4:30 PM when happy hour was still happening. Our server was Jennifer and she was pretty attentive. We got the pork belly bun and then the karage fried chicken (I can't remember if that's what it's called on the menu but that's what it is lol ). both items were good!! We also both got the black tonkotsu Ramen. While the noodles and broth was pretty good, but did get a bit salty towards the end ..the pork pieces was legit just fat. So I had two pieces of fat and my husband also had two pieces of fat. I'm not sure if that's normal for this place or if it's an off day but I was pretty sad and I was so grossed out I didn't even end up eating it cause who wants to eat fat ..Seriously they should not serve that.. I've never been to a Ramen restaurant that has served something like that before .. I'll include a picture of the piece that I bit into. The drinks were good though. This place is a bit pricy and the bill can def add up if you order apps. Also, I don't know if they make all their servers do this but at the end when they check you out, they also bring a little sign so that you can write a review if you like to on Google. We were delighted to see Jinya has made its way to South Bend when passing through on vacation a few weeks ago. I can't get enough of their creamy spicy vegan ramen - it's so good! This was our first time taking the kids for ramen so I was delighted to find that we could add additional toppings like broccoli, tofu, etc. to stretch our ramen and give them all of the same fun flavors. The staff was working really well together and seemed to have all of the new biz kinks out. The vegan ramen was just as good as I remembered and the kids loved it as well. The space features a large wrap around bar with tvs and well as traditional seating. They were quite busy during our lunchtime visit. You can find parking along the street in this new development neighborhood. We'll keep this spot in mind for future trips through South Bend. read more

Service was fair. The server almost hit my girlfriend while taking food to another table. Food was terrible. The broth tasted entirely of raw onions, we couldn't taste anything but onions. The pork was beyond tough and chewy, while having any actual flavor. read more

This place is good. Friendly service and good food. The wait was pretty long, but expected. Restaurant is smaller so it felt loud. The prices are a bit on the higher side as expected with American ramen restaurants. The kids menu was worth it, but it didn't feel like a family restaurant that much. Kids are welcomed, but the vibe doesn't match. Personally I like Okasan's for ramen better. JINYA has a rewards program though! read more

Tried this place for the first time today for lunch and it was good. Loved the decor and staff was friendly. Our server asked if it was our first time and when we said yes he began explaining the menu which was awesome. My husband got a chicken cashu bowl and I got the birria ramen. It was good but could have used more flavor. For an appetizer we got potstickers which I thought were overcooked(see photo). We brought home our leftovers and mixed both dishes together and it made an amazing dinner. I would return but I've had better birra ramen in Minnesota. Lil pricey but what isn't these days. On February 15, we had a reservation for five, checked in around 7:00 PM, and were seated around 7:40 PM. I ordered the Jinya Chicken Ramen. Later that night, I developed severe symptoms consistent with food poisoning, including repeated vomiting and ongoing physical distress. The timing strongly suggests the meal caused it. I contacted the restaurant by phone. The manager offered the same dish free on a future visit but refused to provide a written apology. I want to be clear: this response felt inadequate considering the seriousness of the situation. I share this to warn other diners and encourage caution. I have been to 3 different ramen shops in 3 cities in recent months, and this comes in at third. The broth was overly salty and not really having the ramen umami flavor. Missing a few ingredients and the visual appeal than what I expected in the standard Ramen bowl, but they load it up with green onion pieces to cover that up. There was 2 pieces of pork, an egg and noodles. There was a clump of green glop, maybe spinach? And two pieces of seaweed paper. If I sound salty myself, maybe it was the server who was braiding another girls hair, and then handing out bowls and silverware without washing her hands. Maybe it was the other server with the long nails that handed out the bowls with her thumbs inside the bowls. Basic stuff that the manager should train employees on. What do you expect in a college town with young servers. By the way, the basic ramen cost more than the other two bowls I had recently, which were both in nice areas in major cities. Placed a to-go order at 1:35pm and pick up time said 2:13-2:17 which was already a bit long to me but then I went inside to see if it was ready and while they were busy with a wait time to actually sit and eat of 30mins I still didn't get my take out until after 2:30! So a whole hour which at that point I might as well have dined in. The point of to go is TO GO... need faster service cause it.
