I ordered 3 rolls to share between two of us. While they are good sized rolls and we couldn't finish them, I was not blown away by the quality. If I remember correctly, I ordered the caterpillar with eel, the In & Out (spicy tuna / avocado) and the Rock N Roll (scallop). The fish was good but not great. NO RAW FISH, PLEASE! So, the fact that I don't like to eat raw fish should not preclude me from eating sushi. This place is one of my favorite spots, in spite of the fact that it is frequently inundated with small children in the late afternoons and evenings. This little hole-in-the-wall in a strip mall like location will surprise you. As soon as you sit down, you are brought 2 delicious pieces of albacore tempura smothered in a sweet creamy sauce. FYI - this is also offered as a six-piece dish on the menu. The service is fantastic. I was certain that I ordered one thing and our server said that we had ordered another - no matter, though. She promptly cleared away the dish that we didn't want and replaced it with something we wanted. The food always tastes fresh; the rice always perfectly sticky. $10-$12/roll is reasonable. The rolls are eight pieces and are huge. They offer very creative rolls, too. Next time I will try the one with albacore tempura. Parking is in the lot directly in front of it. The parking lot is shared by a 7-Eleven, So, hopefully people come and go, opening up spaces for parking. They also have takeout. Just call ahead, order your food and pick it up. Arigato. read more

Solid sushi place near my house. Location: this place is located in a strip mall on PCH. Very unassuming but it is very convenient for me. Parking is not the best but theres usually room at least on a side street. Far away from the noise of hermosa, which can be good or bad depending what you're looking for. Food: sushi here seems fresh and tastes really good. I've had many different rolls and their bento boxes. All very good and high quality. I've done both dine in and take out, both good experiences. Service: service is pretty good here. Nothing outstanding but I would say about average. Price: sushi here is a tad pricey, but it is hermosa beach. I love it when what I order is exactly what it is described as. It even matched the pictures online. I ordered sushi for delivery and all the food came beautifully boxed up with all the sides and sauces in individual containers so nothing would be soggy. Oki Doki used to be my go-to for when I was craving all kinds of Americanized sushi rolls. They used to do a great job and one of my favorite rolls was the OMG roll. Recently, I've dined here once and ordered delivery once and I've had the same issue. One of the rolls I order has tempura crumbs coating the outside of the roll and the tempura crumbs both times were STALE!! Like an awful, old stale texture that sticks to your teeth. The shrimp tempura inside said roll was also not fresh and you can tell it's been sitting out for a while. I think at the prices they charge for their rolls they need to be using fresh ingredients at all times. That includes the garnishes! You cannot serve a delicious roll with stale disgusting tempura crumbs that literally ruins the entire roll, it's just such a waste! Other than the stale tempura crumbs and shrimp tempura, the rolls are actually really delicious! I can't eat here anymore while the crumbs are stale because it just leaves such a bad taste and texture in my mouth. It's so unfortunate because it was my go-to for sushi rolls! read more

CONS- -$12 Shrimp Roll to add Avocado +.50 - Waitress not friendly (I hate having to leave a tip for blah service when tipping is optional) - Inferior eel sauce You always know the sushi place by it's eel sauce (if they use the cheap light colored sugary one or the dark quality one). Any not to mention the $12 shrimp roll. Yes $12! I've lived it many states and there are high end restaurants that doesn't charge that much. The waitress not to friendly at all. Oki Doki is a little hole in the wall kind of place and very popular by locals. Not very big, but great sushi and great service. Yes it is small, so you may need to wait but it should not be long. You will notice many locals call in orders and take it to go- another testament of how yummy it is. I just love the relaxed beach feel, great food and friendly environment this hidden gem provides. Last time I visited Oki Doki, we sat the sushi bar and were immediately served with waters and edamame, they also serve complimentary appetizer which is fried tempura albacore which is so delicious. The sashimi is VERY fresh and every roll is tasty and sashimi salad here is my favorite. Parking is tight but I usually don't have any problem with finding a spot to park. read more

First time at Oki Doki and my husband and I loved it. Friendly staff and amazing customer service. We order the Oki Doki Combo, the sea weed salad, and miso soups. It was perfect to share between the two of us. We appreciated the fact that while waiting for our food they gave us complementary edamame and an "on the house" small appetizer. Not sure if they do this with every one, but surely we are happy they pampered us like that. Place is small, but in an intimate way; I definately like that. Living back in the South Bay now for 9 years, I drive by this joint at least a few times a week and I've been avoiding it all the while because of the location. Stupid, I know. But can you blame me? The joint sits in a small strip next to a 7-11 and a pizza joint on a busy section of PCH (at 5th Ave.) in Hermosa. And for the past year or so, friends of ours kept telling us that this is the only place they go to for sushi in the South Bay. And now, finally, I know why. Service is fast & friendly, fish is fresh & delicious and the number of interesting and tasty rolls on the menu is incredible. The three of us (all hungry fellas) split a Harbor Combo (8 piece sushi with 8 piece spicy tuna roll & soup - $10.99), a giant Volcano roll (baked scallop, spicy crab, avocado & spicy tuna - $8.99), a giant In 'n Out roll (spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber & seared tuna - $7.99), Uni (sea urchin - $5.99 for 2 pieces), 2 orders of Sweet Shrimp (with the heads fried, yum...I usually get the heads fried but I've never seen them prepared this way before....like tempura battered with a sauce....YUM - $5.99 x 2 for 4 pieces total, sushi & heads), yellowtail sushi ($3.49 for 2 pieces), 1 more spicy tuna roll ($3.99), 1 Large Sapporo ($5.50), 2 tea ($1.00 x 2), free edamame and free 3-piece chicken tempura in some delicious sauce....came to $32/person including tax & tip...and we were stuffed. This was awesome and now my favorite sushi place in the South Bay. Prior to this, it was Asaka up in RPV, near our house, but because of price and service, it's now #1. Choki-Choki Sushi.(this is what the name should be) After the first bite of your sushi you may just wanna choke it back up and leave. Lobster Roll or was it. Then onto the California Rolls we had 2 orders of this, why I have no fucking idea. One with soy paper one without, they old of put real paper in them, nothing was going to make these taste good. California Rolls. Fake crab meat, Japanese mayonnaise, (or was it) cucumber, this was a little puzzling because it just looked like some green slime oozing out of the sides and then avocado. Wrapped around held together with over cooked chewy rice. It really didn't matter if it had soy or the nori sheets. It they both tasted like mayonnaise with rice, not even the soy sauce could help make it taste a little better. Lobster Roll. Think California roll with tiny pieces of lobster, topped off with some sauces on the plate to make it look eatable, sorry it didn't work. I'm really feeling a little sorry for the customers that think this place is the bomb place to go for sushi. Sure it is just like the A-Bomb in 45. I have 2 tips for this place and the customers, (1) walk back to the bathrooms and take look inside the kitchen you may just leave right after. (2) next door is a pizza place with pasta, you may wanna try them after you lost your taste/feeling for sushi. Total Damages $6 I got lucky I only had to pay the tip. Thanks Roxanne get well soon. I have sort of a stigma about sushi because I expect it to be exotic, unexpected, and above all, expensive. So when I tried it out this local sushi joint on the recommendation of my visiting brother, who was more in the mood for a tuna roll than for a bento-style lunch at Maui Rose next door, I was pleasantly surprised that this seemingly shabby exterior housed a sushi bar was quite elegant and clean inside. More importantly, the rolls and edamame were delicious and very reasonably priced. It is now my local no-fuss, no-pressure place for sushi. :) read more

I've passed this place for years and finally tried it. Shame on me for taking so long! What a little gem. When you want cheap, casual sushi, this place takes the cake! Been twice in the last two weeks now and our faves so far are the In N Out roll (with tuna, spicy tuna, black & white sesame seeds and some other ingredients) and the Oki Doki roll, which comes topped with tempura lobster. Service is friendly and begins with complimentary cucumbers and edamame. On our second trip, they comped us an order of tempura albacore. Both times, got out of there for under $20 per person including tax and tip. This is not your upscale sushi, but is perfect when you just have that sushi craving. I'll be back! read more

I don't think I've gotten juked by Yelp that bad ever. Oki Doki's been on the list of Japanese restaurants I want to try for awhile. It got good reviews, prices seem decent, and it's close by, so finally one Friday took the mom and the sister here. We got there around 6:30pm and the place was packed. The place is not big and the sushi bar seating is limited as well. Ended up waiting about 30 minutes before a table for 3 finally opens up. Sister and I decided to try the bentos while my mom went for the sashimi set. For the bento, you get to choose how many items you want, so I opted for the salmon and the beef teriyaki, and it was super disappointing. The salmon looked like it was only boiled, then sauced with a light layer of teriyaki and the beef is this small serving of beef strips, with the thickness of a piece of paper. Ok, maybe not that thin but it's pretty damn sad. Sauce wasn't that great either. Sister decided to pay the extra to have sashimi with her bento so there were plenty of sashimi to share between my sister's and mom's. However, don't know if Oki Doki was so busy that they didn't have time to defrost the fish or something, all of our tuna pieces had little bits of ice still. No texture to it thanks to that so it was pretty nasty. Salmon was alright, but the albacore and the hamachi were pretty bad too. Needless to say, both of them were pretty disappointed. We liked that they started us with plenty of edamame and they also served every table these delicious fried albacore. We also ordered a Spider Roll to share and that was actually pretty good. The toppings/fillings were plenty and they were big rolls. The sauce they drizzled over it was sweeter than most places. Halfway through the meal, I looked around and saw that most people ordered rolls. Since it is Korean owned, they do charge for hot tea :[ Service was very spotty since they were super busy and felt like they were understaffed at times. Parking situation is absolutely horrible. Just park on the street since the lot is quite small. I felt pretty bad bringing the fam here, and probably won't be back for awhile thanks to the not-so-good sashimi. Sometimes, I go against my beliefs and get "white-people sushi", meaning rolls. I am (most of the time) a purist when it comes to sushi, and i enjoy sushi prepared the traditional way. But today was one of those days I was happy to try rolls! This hole in the wall joint is a great little local spot. I was surprised to find very fresh fish & sashimi, and not necessarily drenched in sweet sauce. Rice was cooked and seasoned perfectly.
