    Shrimp tempura roll
    Diana L.

Came for dinner and loved everything we got! So impressed by the snow crab rolls which are a California roll but with real snow crab instead of imitation crab! - 7 piece sushi: fish was fresh and each piece was pretty big! Especially impressed by the size of the tuna and salmon pieces - Salmon on top of snow crab roll: forgot to take a photo of this but the salmon sashimi on top was a big piece over the snow crab California roll with truffle oil - Shrimp tempura roll: fresh shrimp tempura on top of the snow crab California roll - S&T roll: surf n turf roll with a slice of Wagyu on top and lobster roll inside. I couldnt really taste the lobster inside but the wagyu beef on top was really good! - Birthday dessert: we forgot to tell the server it was our friends bday but he overheard us say happy birthday to her and brought out this Japanese cheesecake at the end which we really appreciated! It was so good and had so much flavor and was pretty dense despite it being so small. We were able to share it between 4 people. Will definitely be back! I really enjoyed the snow crab rolls, even more than the nigiri which I usually prefer over rolls!

Lunch at Taberu Sushi turned out to be a genuinely great experience. The moment we sat down, the staff made sure we felt taken care of -- attentive, friendly, and clearly committed to giving us a smooth dining experience. The highlight was definitely the salmon rolls. They were incredibly fresh, with that clean, buttery flavor you only get when the fish is top quality. Each bite was balanced, delicious, and honestly better than what you find at most casual sushi spots. Service stayed consistently great throughout the meal. Drinks were refilled quickly, plates cleared without interrupting, and the team checked in just enough to make sure everything was perfect without hovering. Overall, Taberu delivers fresh sushi, warm hospitality, and a lunch experience that feels both relaxed and memorable. It's the kind of spot you leave already planning your next visit. Miguel C.

I LOVE this place and can't believe it took me this long to try it! My friend and I ordered the Taberu Lunch Course (basically a mini omakase), and every course was thoughtfully prepared. The course included a chawanmushi with shiitake mushroom and shrimp, followed by 7 pieces of seasonal wild-caught fish. My favorite part was the mini kaisendon with Kumamoto oyster with caviar, sweet amaebi with creamy Bara uni, and toro that completely melted in my mouth. The yuzu mochi at the end was perfect -- not too sweet and had a nice chew to it. We also ordered the spicy garlic soy edamame, mizu tako aburi, and spicy tuna crispy rice. The crispy rice was a standout -- crunchy, flavorful, and topped with spicy tuna, eel sauce, and serrano. Delicious! Service was on point. Andrew, the team leader, was super friendly and knowledgeable, and his recommendation of the yuzu sakari highball ended up being my favorite drink of the night. Slightly sweet, citrusy, and dangerously easy to drink. The owner Lynn, chef Sam, chef Sylvia, and chef Joon were incredibly kind and welcoming, and you can really tell how much care goes into the food here. The restaurant also has a quiet, intimate ambiance that made my experience feel even more relaxing. I love that the fish selection changes with the seasons, making it even more unique. This place just earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

I've bookmarked this place for a long time bc of all the good reviews. Finally got to visit during lunch today with hubby since we were in the area. I was surprised at how dead the place was on a Sunday. There was only one other table asides from us that were dining there the entire time. The interior of the place was modern & elegant with artistic fish drawings & the fish light fixture was beautiful. The service was very polite & attentive. We both ordered the sushi set which included miso soup, salad, & chef's choice of 7 pieces of nigiri. The miso soup was on point but salad was meh. The quality of the fish was fresh & the rice to fish ratio was perfect. Their menu is extensive & they also serve their specials on the board which I'm interested in trying next time.

New favorite omakase meal in OC! For lunch, you can pick the Taberu Lunch Course ($85) which is smaller portion of omakase dishes or the Omakase ($170) with 16 items of chefs choice plus either snow crab porridge or chawanmushi. We picked the $170 Omakase and it was an incredible culinary experience. To start, I would recommend the chawanmushi over the porridge because the porridge seemed slightly under-seasoned. The omakase included dishes like steamed abalone, Kumamoto oyster, Santa Barbara Uni, and many seasonal fish like the Japanese halfbeak (sayori). The dishes were nicely paced and beautifully presented. The mix of sashimi, nigiri sushi, and small cooked dishes was great. Dessert was poached pear, yum. Everyday, the omakase will vary slightly, depending on the fish brought in by vendors. Can't wait to try it again!

    Amazing sushi

I had an incredible dining experience here, and it was largely thanks to the manager, Andrew Kim. From the moment we sat down, his service was absolutely amazing. Andrew went above and beyond by taking the time to explain everything about the different fish they had on deck, including where they were sourced and what made them unique. He also gave us an excellent, detailed breakdown of the sake menu, helping us find the perfect pairing for our meal. It is rare to find that level of knowledge, passion, and genuine hospitality. The sushi was phenomenal, but Andrew's top-tier service truly elevated the whole evening. We will definitely be back!

    Amazing !!

This place was amazing !!!! First time here and Andrew Kim made it a whole experience. He walked us through every menu item and sake drinks we had. He was aware of his surroundings and his restaurant as a whole we were very impressed with the high service level and will def come back again! Thank you Andrew for being so kind and informative!

Wasn't my favorite sushi place. I did order take out so that may have been why. It was good but not for the price.

Sooo good! Super fresh and high quality ingredients. They had lots of different types of fish we never had before - fresh from Japan! Our server, Andrew, was so sweet, helpful, and knowledgeable with great recs. Def worth it if you like sushi.

Had the 16-piece sashimi platter and was really impressed. The fish was fresh, high quality, and beautifully presented. Each piece had a clean taste and good texture, and you could tell care was taken with both the selection and preparation. The variety was great, with each fish offering something a little different. The service was attentive and the atmosphere was comfortable without feeling pretentious. Overall, a great spot for anyone who appreciates quality sashimi. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

What u ordered | chirashi don | crab tempura roll Taste | the crab tempura roll was good and creamy. The sashimi portion was good for the chirashi don. The blue fin and salmon were my favorites for the fish. Service | workers were nice Parking | plaza Notes| ordered takeout and had some outdoor seating in the plaza as the restaurant didn't have outdoor seating

Came here for a date night and got the omakase course for $170 pp. It's a 16 item course with fish availability varying by season. The fish was super fresh and didn't taste fishy at all. Service was very friendly and attentive. Everyone took the time to explain each course carefully. Would recommend to anyone looking for a chill sushi spot! It's not too loud, so you don't have to struggle when talking with your partner.

Spicy tuna crispy rice: other than our favorite sushi place that sadly closed, this one was the best we've ever had. The crispy rice patty is fairly flat, which is way better and offers far superior crunch than the thick ones. "New style" salmon sashimi with white truffle: delightful. It's not very far from Disney, but far enough from the crowds. First, the service was great. They were very nice and attentive. It was pretty slow, but it was Sunday on a holiday weekend. We ordered several sushi rolls and a pork katsu. The flavors were all delicious. The spicy scallops hand roll was great and they didn't hide it under krab or any other fillers. It was a little spicier than I expected and it was delicious. What I most appreciated was I was able to order more rolls for variety because an order was 4 pieces. The price reflected the amount and so you really could try different rolls and not pay $15-20 for each. The restaurant was cozy and tastefully decorated. They still have a sushi bar, which I always love as an option. We will definitely keep this place on the list when we are in the area.

We had to check in at a kiosk and wait to be seated even though there were only two tables occupied. Then we were told to scan a QR code and place our own order. The menu was confusing, and after our appetizers came out, we waited 45 minutes with no sushi. A server finally asked if we had ordered anything else... yes, through the QR system you told us to use. To top it off, we spent the entire meal swatting away gnats, no one apologized for the delay, and we waited forever to get our check. You would think they would've at least comped our drinks or given us the multiple appetizers they mistakenly brought out for the inconvenience. We left still hungry even though it was supposedly "all you can eat" and ended up eating Taco Bell afterward. This place used to be one of our favorite sushi spots...sad that we won't be coming back anytime soon.

We were seated promptly, my friend took on the obligation of explaining me how it all worked. The first issue I ran into was that the service in the shopping center is notoriously slow, and unfortunately the restaurant didn't offer any WiFi for customers, making it so that we kind of had to just juggle between grabbing whatever room temperature sushi came to us via conveyor belt (which was only salmon sushi, nothing else) or waiting for our phones to load up the ordering platform which let us do maybe 3 orders before completely crashing. I have been to kura a couple of times, and I liked their system of discarding the plates and counting as you go, Kaisen kind of just expects you to let your old plates pile up and they count them at the end. The employees were practically useless, you didn't get your water filled up, it had to be ordered on the system for them to acknowledge you. I am fine with modernity, but I feel that this place is picking and choosing very poorly what they "update". Would I come back? Maybe, but not my by own doing.
