I recently came here for lunch with a friend and had a great experience. I ordered the Spicy Beef Udon, while my friend had the cold soba noodles. Everything was delicious--the noodles were fresh, and the broth was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of flavor. I definitely plan to come back and try more items from the menu and would happily recommend this place to friends and family. There's plenty of parking in the shopping center, but finding a spot immediately in front of the restaurant can be a bit challenging since you're competing with customers from several nearby restaurants and a coffee shop. As for the wait, we joined the Yelp waitlist before arriving, and our table was ready when we got there. I highly recommend doing the same if you want to minimize, or maybe even eliminate, your wait time.
Im not really an udon person but I think the soup itself for the shabu shabu udon was very clean and light which I thought is nice and doesnt make udon tiring to eat. There was plenty of meat in the shabu shabu udon dish and the dipping sauce was good. The fried chicken was juicy but I wish it was a nice more crunchy. The service was slow though... we waited like 25 mins before asking about our food and they were full so I fully understand it would be slow. What I don't understand is why the 2 tables next to us got in and order after us but got their food first. My friend wanted to leave but I insisted to ask about our order first..after about another 5~10mins we finally got our food..
Small place - either get there early or make reservations. Located in a strip mall - plenty of parking Good food. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Two udon and a fried chicken. They offer toddler utensils. The udon was filled with so much beef. Light but tasty.
On the hunt for tako wasabi and soba, my journey brought me to Okidoki by Meiji. Unfortunately, they didn't have any takowasa on the day of my visit, but the soba noodles I ordered made up for it. Located in Tustin, I'm very happy I discovered this place. Aside from the food, service was nice and the ambiance was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I really liked the decor and overall feel of the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you live in the area, I have to say I'm jealous! This is an awesome neighborhood spot to grab some food at.
We made a reservation for 5 for lunch on a Saturday. I would recommend to make a res if you're with a larger party, but if you're 2 people, you can probably walk in! They have a lot of staff so service was great and attentive. We got the tamago and gyoza appetizers which were well made. They had no tako dishes (squid) of any form available at around 1:30 pm, saying it was all sold out. I ordered the spicy beef udon since I saw it online a lot, and it was definitely worth it! I got the standard spice and it had a nice kick but nothing too crazy. It was on a self burning pot so it kept it nice and hot throughout the meal. There was a good amount of beef and the soup flavor was unique and worth it! They also include a cheesy rice ball which you add into your soup at the end to make a porridge. Would definitely recommend ordering this one!
Okidoki is an excellent Japanese restaurant in Tustin. I think I prefer this location to their other in Costa Mesa just because it is a little bit bigger so it doesn't take as long of a wait to get a table. I got the spicy shabu shabu and it was so delicious. Their udon noodles really are the star of the show, although they also have a great assortment of other dishes on the menu.
Okidoki is the larger sister restaurant of Costa Mesa's much smaller (and therefore busier) Meiji Seimen, if you aren't in the mood for waiting. Both of their menus are very similar, and you will see some same dishes across the two. We started off with their crispy kara-age (fried chicken) which is best eaten with a squeeze of lemon and dunked into their yummy garlicky, oniony dipping sauce. Always best eaten right out of the fryer, piping hot. You just can't go wrong with their most popular app. For starters, we also got their blistered shishito peppers, which comes with bonito flakes dancing from the steam of the peppers. If you've never had shishito peppers before, they are very very mild in spiciness, but be warned you'll always have one extra spicy pepper when you least expect it! For our main, we got the spicy beef udon, which comes simmering in its metal bowl atop a fire, keeping it hot as you enjoy it slowly. The red broth has a nice kick of heat, but not so spicy that it will irritate your throat. The slices of beef are oh so tender and flavorful. The rich broth clings on perfectly to the thick udon noodles. If you're sharing, plan on getting extra udon noodles to soak up all that delicious broth! At the end, drop the cheesy rice ball into the broth to make a congee, soaking up more of that delicious broth. The staff is welcoming and friendly, checking in at the right times and even offering bibs to help with the splashes of broth if you're a messy eater!
I visited on a Friday afternoon around 11:45AM shortly after they opened (11:30AM) and almost every table was filled already! There were two ladies taking orders so ordering was quick; the wait for the food to arrive was very long. I got the spicy seafood udon with standard spice, which took nearly 25 minutes. I would not recommend coming here during a work lunch because you will be rushing through your meal, as that was our experience. While the spicy seafood udon is delicious, the soup serving is small. A pro is that there is large shrimp in the soup and lots of baby clams. For a standard spice level, the soup was surprisingly very savory and spicy. Normally when I order something spicy at a Japanese restaurant, I expect the flavor to not actually be spicy. The udon comes with a fried rice ball with a cheese filling on the side. You should toss the rice ball in the broth to soak up all the flavor and eat it because the ball itself is very hard. In terms of price, the food is expensive for the portion. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is very small so I highly recommend arriving early wait or to put yourself on the Yelp waitlist.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The parking lot is shared with other businesses in the plaza, so you might have to do a few loops if it's a busy time of day.
Had dinner here with my kiddos and yummmm. I was craving udon and found this on Yelp and had to come try! The restaurant is pretty small and packs quickly so if you do decide to come make sure to get on the Yelp waiting list! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Other than that the restaurant itself is cute.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered some appetizers... gyoza and chicken karaage. My son also ordered a California roll. I had the spicy beef udon with rice ball.. the appetizers were good. My spicy beef udon was delicious! It was brought out in a small cauldron like bowl atop a flame! It was boiling hot the whole time I ate! After you finish the udon there's a fried rice ball that you then would put in the pot to eat with the rest of the broth. I didn't go the traditional route.. instead I broke a piece of the rice and was surprised with some melted cheese inside! And took my piece and dipped it in my broth and ate it. It was great! So crunchy and umami! I would come again just for that rice ball lol
The garlic beef udon was delicious and the ultimate comfort dish! Broth was unami, slightly sweet and reminded me of sukiyaki. Udon was bouncy with the perfect chew. Plenty of parking in the lot. Will visit again when in OC.
Okidoki has been on my to-try list for a while. I finally dropped in for lunch recently and had a pleasant experience. There's an on-site waitlist and a Yelp waitlist. Lunch wasn't too bad a wait, but I hear dinner is busy. The menu offers plenty of classic Japanese dishes along with seasonal specials. The udon noodles are made fresh in-house daily. Plenty of care is taken to ensure the quality of all the food. The combos also offer good value and generous portions. My most recent order was the shabu shabu beef udon and assorted tempura. I enjoyed both these dishes. The udon broth was clean and flavorful with nicely cooked udon noodles. The beef was a bit chewy but had good flavor, especially when dipped in the ponzu sauce. I would upgrade to spicy if I ordered this entrée again. The assorted tempura was cooked fresh, had a nice, crispy texture, and didn't feel greasy. The drink menu offers sake, shochu, local and Japanese beers, sodas, lemonade, tea, and more. The happy hour menu looks great, too. I had a great lunch experience overall. The staff was kind and attentive. I didn't have to wait long for a table. The prices are fair for the quality and quantity they offer. EXCELLENT SERVICE. all staff very friendly, vibes feel VERY AUTHENTIC! Sukiyaki, Udon, Soba, Curry, all great.. but their best I've ever had is their Salmon Belly Bowl! Can't wait for it to come back! Love that there's weekly/seasonal chef specials, really makes the quality of this establishment stand out :)
After coming here a few times, I found coming to this spot to consistently be a delightful experience, not only for the food, but also for the helpful service. I have had items such as their curry udon, karaage chicken, and spicy beef udon (as is shown in my photo). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Although this place is not exactly the most spacious between tables, the swift service and delicious food makes up for it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Prices here are reasonable and they definitely do not skimp out on the portions. There is so much respect paid to japanese culture through communication between workers and even to the patrons, which I appreciate alongside with some authentic japanese food made by some incredible cooks! If you are ever in the Tustin area and are seeking some Japanese comfort food, this spot is undoubtedly worth trying out.

Okidoki has been me and my now husband favorite restaurant for over a year ! We went on a date as single people in this restaurant. My husband travels to Japan and says this food is just as good / if not even better! We also went there after we got married and now go there with a baby on a way. That's how good the food is; no matter what stage in life you are! It will keep you coming back! We often have Derrick as our server and he has been AMAZINGGGGGGG! Our party of 2 went at around 11:30am on a Sunday morning and there was thankfully no wait. Lots of parking lot spots available in the lot. It was our first time here and our server kindly answered our questions. The place is on the smaller side with only mostly 2 to 4 person tables. I can see how this place can get packed so I suggest making a reservation (if they allow) or coming early. For food we ordered the Shrimp Tempura to share ($11): freshly made, crunchy batter-- it was delicious. Spicy Beef Udon ($21): absolutely loved this dish plus you can pay more to choose up to 3 levels of spice (extra $1.50 for each level). I love spicy food and opted for level 2 since it was my first time here and it was perfect for me. Served with the cheesy risotto ball meant to put in the soup after you've finished the noodles. It was the perfect dish after a night of drinking (haha). Wish I lived closer because I would definitely come back! read more

Definitely come try Okidoki! We heard from our Japanese friends that Okidoki is the best place for authentic and delicious udon, and our experience was nothing short of the best! Expect a little wait when you arrive, because it's absolutely worth it. You can check-in on Yelp once you're close enough or they have a Yelp tablet at the door. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They set the vibes with traditional Japanese acoustic music while you wait and peruse the slideshow menu on their TV.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Once seated, service was 5/5 friendly, helpful, and attentive. We got the takoyaki and fried chicken with sapporos to start, both appetizers were hot and crispy. Very well prepared! I personally tried the katsu curry udon which was SO GOOD! Udon noodles were cooked to perfection, not too soft and texture was great. I tried my friend's shabu shabu udon, the broth was incredibly delicious and light. I'll have to get that next time. I ordered the cold spicy tsuke soba, which is a unique menu item--it was delicious, and I really loved the combination of tororo and spicy broth. The soba noodles had a great texture. Went to get the Spicy Udon by myself. It was really good. The type of delicious that makes me wonder why I haven't tried such an obvious idea already. Makes me wonder if other restaurants have served spicy udon before that I just never noticed lol. But the broth is deep, bold, and the spice paste had this additional umami to it that's not found in just pepper flakes/powder. The beef is very tender and sweet. They give you this fried rice n cheese ball too. The price is pretty steep ngl ($25+ I added a poached egg) most I've ever payed for udon. I'd say it's worth it SPARINGLY. Service was standard and informative. When I was unsure about the spice level my server was nice enough to start me at level 1 and gave me free spice paste on the side. I've been dining at Okidoki for years now and finally got around to writing a review. The restaurant is located in a plaza at the corner of Newport Avenue and Main Street across the street from the Tustin Library and City Hall. It's located a few doors down from what used to be Soup Plantation (sniff, sniff, sob, sob). Okidoki's menu serves up everything from appetizers, salads, side dishes, udon, soba, ramen, small rice bowls and sushi rolls to homemade desserts. On this visit we started with their fried chicken which was a light and crispy appetizer. Up next was the small salmon bowl which was both fresh and delicious. The only miss was the Nabeyaki Udon which to be honest was nothing special. If this is your go-to entree, I recommend going around the corner and trying it at Honda-Ya. Food: 4/5 - Salmon belly & salmon sashimi: super fresh and buttery. - Spicy beef udon: portion was on the smaller side, and the broth leaned heavily on sesame oil. That said, the udon itself was perfectly chewy and bouncy, and the broth had a nice thickness that made it comforting. Bonus points for the little flame under the pot, it kept the noodles bubbling hot the entire meal (pro tip: the pot is scorching, so handle carefully!) Service: 3/5 We had a strange moment while sitting at the bar. The server gave us the salmon belly bowl, but then came back a couple minutes later, took it away, and said it was meant for the other table since they were missing wasabi. Okidoki by Meiji is a partner restaurant of Meiji Seimen in Costa Mesa and this restaurant specializes in udon and soba. I am a fan of Meiji Seimen so I wanted to give this spot a try. Both locations share similar menu except Okidoki by Meiji offers sushi rolls / sashimi + udon with an extra flair like hot pot style spicy beef udon + rice ball. [Parking]: Easy and free plaza parking on a weekday. [Waitlist & rules]: The restaurant uses the Yelp waitlist (there's a kiosk at the front entrance for check-in) and I only waited about 5 minutes. Max time at table is 1.5 hour limit. [Menu]: According to the menu, the most liked udon items are shabu shabu udon, chicken tempura curry udon, and tempura udon + the most liked side dishes are fried chicken, fried squid leg, and assorted tempura. However the item to order per Yelp recommendation is Spicy Beef Udon (hot pot style). *** Spicy Beef Udon (standard spicy - $21 + egg $2): My waiter recommended adding a poached egg and it was worth it. The spicy beef udon is my new favorite dish at this restaurant! The broth was very sesame oil forward, which I loved. The udon was bouncy and perfect in texture. I also loved the crispy rice ball that they serve it with, I like to soak it in the soup briefly so that the exterior is still crunchy. The standard level of spice is very manageable and you can add more if needed. The wait on a Saturday evening was around an hour, but thankfully using the Yelp waitlist we were able to join it before arriving, so once we got to the restaurant we only had to wait around 20 minutes. This place always has very good business - we came on a Wednesday night around 720pm and there was a little wait (not too bad around 20 minutes to get seated at a bar seat). Ordered the kimchi udon which was quite expensive (28$) but portion was large and soup was very good and flavorful! Noodles had a nice and chewy texture. I've been here a couple times and it always hits the spot. Previously I tried their popular curry udon and spicy beef udon. Both were 10/10 and the curry is honestly some of the best I've had. Once you have the first udon noodle you will immediately taste the freshness of the noodle, it turns into the perfect vessel for all the yummy broth. Trying the garlic beef this time was a great choice. I'm a garlic fiend and this matched my energy. It was a nice warm bowl of goodness. I ordered the takowasa and the shabu shabu udon. I really enjoyed the takowasa as an appetizer; it is raw octopus with wasabi. It is really chewy and has a nice tinge from the wasabi. I think the wasabi cover ups the umami flavor well, but if you are more sensitive to umami flavors, I wouldn't recommend it. I also ordered the shabu shabu udon in which you can choose for it to come with either pork or beef. The udon was really soft and it was a good portion for one person to finish. It comes with a ponzu dipping sauce that goes well with the meat and the udon. I really wanted to try the spicy beef and see if they could substitute it for pork, but for those orders, they can't switch out the meat; so the shabu shabu was a great option. There is only indoor seating and there will most likely be a wait on weekends, so to avoid the wait you can go closer to opening time at 5:30! read more

Okidoki by Meiji is a sister partner restaurant of the Meiji Seimen team serving up some authentic udon and soba dishes. This spot is located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. You can make reservations here or join the waitlist on Yelp as well. I would highly recommend one of these options as wait times can get long during peak times. Wifey and I stopped by for dinner with some family around 6pm and the wait time was about 45 minutes. Inside, the restaurant is a bit on the smaller side with about 6-7 tables for seating and a bar area. For their menu, they have a solid selection of different rice bowl, soba, udon, and sushi dishes to choose from. Wifey opted for the Spicy Cold Soba Noodles and I got the Beef Shabu Shabu Udon. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here. Everything that we tried was delicious with authentic flavors. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Very big portions and the noodles are cooked very well. Spicy is definitely the way to go. Beef is generous and really fatty (which I like). Personally I didn't find the cheese ball very good even adding it to the broth at the end and mixing it. It wasn't as flavorful as it was made out to be. Overall delicious and would come back. Okidoki by Meiji is a great Japanese restaurant in Orange County. This spot sits in a very unassuming plaza in Tustin but serves amazing food. The line is sometimes pretty crazy, so make sure to sign up on the Yelp waitlist ahead of time! I always get the Spicy Beef Udon, and I love that they include a little cheesy rice ball. This allows you to make a nice spicy risotto at the end! Very yummy! The service is always great, but the interior has definitely been lacking. It feels very empty and soulless. The space here is bigger than Meiji, there's more seating. I got the Nabeyaki and it was sweeter than I expected. Next time, I would go for a more savory option like the Garlic Beef. Food: Spicy Beef Udon Price: $21 (not including tax) Overall: I was really impressed with their sister restaurant Meiji Seimen so I wanted to check out this place! They're known for their variety of udon and soba dishes. I ordered the spicy beef udon which comes with a ball of cheese rice. The server was very nice and took our order in a timely manner. She gave us instructions to eat all the noodles first and then add the ball of cheese rice in the soup. The broth was light and not too spicy (wish it was a bit more spicy to give it that kick). The beef was like beef belly/brisket(?); regardless, it was tasty with bouncy chewy udon noodles that I was anticipating. I think that I should've added the cheese rice when the flame was still going so it was still crunchy but I ate it all! read more

A must try if you're around the Tustin area! The udon here is seriously delicious. I ordered the spicy beef udon with rice ball and the garlic beef udon, along with a crunchy sushi roll. Both soups were packed with flavor, super filling and just overall so good. The place gets pretty packed during dinner time, so the wait can be a bit long. We waited about 45 minutes for a table for two, but honestly, it was worth it and easy to see why it's so popular. The crunchy roll was also a solid choice. They don't have a huge sushi selection, but what we tried was great. Customer service was great too, the staff was really attentive and seemed happy to serve. The place was clean, well lit, and had catchy music playing. Good vibes all around. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes! read more

We stopped by here for dinner on our way to San Juan Capistrano. Thankful that they have a waitlist here on Yelp so I was able to add us as we exited the freeway. By the time we parked, we were already sent a reminder to check in with the host. Our waiter was friendly and explained everything well since it was our first time. Delicious udon bowls: sansai and beef bowls. Service was fast and friendly. Plenty of parking. I recall visiting this location many years ago for sushi rolls and noticed they have different decor and less walls now. Udon noodles tasted fresh with the perfect amount of soft and chewy. The broth was not too salty. The mountain veggies were a variety of mushrooms and green beans. They offer Ichimi- to add to the bowl, which I was content with. However, unless you like excessive spice, I made a huge mistake listening to my husband and tried a piece of his chili vinegar that left a tingling burning feeling on my tongue. It was too hot for me to enjoy the rest of my meal. This won't deter me from coming back as I still want to try their soba! They make these noodles in-house and without egg for those with egg allergy like me, and that's something very much appreciated! read more

i got the spicy beef udon and it was as good as it looks. the broth was definitely the star of the show. i would say the cheese rice ball at the end makes the dish feels heavier than what i usually like. definitely just my preference tho:) if you're a fan of cheese you will like the rice ball that you can add at the end of the meal. their service was very quick and nice. they also check in on us often to make sure everything was okay. Yes it is. With shishito peppers, it's a hit and miss. From my experience, 1 out of 10 will be spicy. If you experience 7 out of 10, you just got bad luck..... :((((
