We came in on a Saturday night around 7pm and were rather surprised to see a number of open seats and very short line for ordering. Do I think this is the best BBQ in Omaha? Probably not, but it is still pretty decent. We sampled a variety - pulled pork for the kids, brisket sandwich with Au Jus and burnt ends. Meat was overall very tender and seasoned well. I grabbed takeout while visiting Omaha as it was a cold night and I was looking forward to a hot meal and some comfort food. I ordered the two meat plate with chicken and turkey and for my sides I got green beans and potato salad. There is a prepackaged area to get bbq sauce to go and I grabbed the hot and the mustard base. Both were good with the mustard being my favorite. The takeout was packaged perfectly so that the sides were in their own Covered containers to stay to their temperature and not get into the other food. It also includes to pieces of bread. I was overall quite pleased with the food, portions and flavors and the quick turn around for a takeout order. The only thing that I didn't love was the potato salad as it was tons of mayo, just to creamy for me. Otherwise I liked it a lot and will likely just get a different side dish next time. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. It was good enough, and the service actually is wonderful, but the food is just not that good. It's unfortunate because it is obviously not completely like Oklahoma Joe's in KC, I know that one of the ones I went to had a brand that was not theirs for the hot sauce and he told me they sold it because their hottest is not hot and I agree. There were some inconsistencies as well - the ribs I had on the first visit - while good, did not seem as thick with meat as the one in KC, The sausage was only okay, but the mac and cheese was amazing (however, it was very, very dry the second time). The cornbread was a large size the first time - second time it was a thinner smaller size. However, both were delicious. I had the brisket and pork the second visit and they were good, but honestly the sauce is not spicy - I like that sweet burn from a good sauce, but in the future - I might get it to go and use my own sauce at home. read more

First time stopping in. The only kid drinks they offer are the soda fountain, would love to see milk or juice options. They had a lot of beer to choose from which was nice to see. We sat outside (yay open garage door seating) food came out very fast and accurate (minus that we ordered 1 cornbread) we mentioned this to the manager when she came around to check our table... she was insanely friendly and said she would easily fix that. She went on and on about their cornbread and not liking other places ever until she tried this one. She brought us a huge plate of it which was super nice but after her really talking it up, I was expecting a lot more... it was ok at best, typical sweet cornbread but nothing to write home about. Southern girl here is picky about cornbread ;) The rest was pretty great. I loved my chicken and green beans, mac and cheese was velveeta and was ok... glad the noodles weren't overcooked mainly. My husband really loved the side of beans with meat in it.. probably the better side option overall. Onion rings were very crunchy but maybe a little overcooked? Sauces were yummy. Really excited to see Oklahoma Joe's in Omaha. An excellent location in Aksarben Village, while parking can be a bear, but eventually can be overcome. The real shining star is service, for an order at the counter establishment, they have an excellent staff, who are very attentive and ask how things are. I really appreciate that, and I hope it stays at that level. My favourite dish is my far the burnt ends. while I have to say Arthur Bryant's is my favourite here, but they do an excellent job, a little dry, but with appropriate amount of sauce this is hands down the best dish to get. The ribs were somewhat of a disappointment, somewhat dry, but had a good flavour. I wasn't too thrilled with the sides, the macaroni and cheese was somewhat forgettable. Not sure where the division lies but this is not at all comparable to the quality and majesty of the original Oklahoma Joe's now named Joe's Kansas City BBQ. There is absolutely nothing comparable or similar between the two. This is not in any way shape or form good bbq nor can it be considered good food in the slightest. Everything tasted like it was over cooked at way to high of a temp in dirty smoke and then microwaved to reheat the week old BBQ for your displeasure. The brisket is more similar to beef jerky than anything. The ribs are magically over cooked, dry, and flavorless. The pulled pork was dry and stringy only to be ruined further with the terrible tasting sauce all on what one can only assume is a week old bun. If you are going to open a restaurant riding on the name of Oklahoma Joe's you need to at least try to understand what BBQ is. You can't just over cook everything in dirty smoke or what is more likely bathed in liquid smoke and throw, I guess, what they call BBQ sauce on it and consider it actual BBQ. read more

Fun BBQ place. Went with a friend for lunch right after it opened. Love the location next to an ice cream place and near a theater. The inside has a huge menu on the wall and lots of banners advertising their wins at a world championship invitational. A pretty spacious place. I got the brisket with mac and cheese and corn bread, and my friend got ribs, brisket, fried okra, and potato salad. Everything was definitely good, but I would not have thought it was world championship worthy. I've had better brisket and the ribs also weren't the most amazing ever. Not bad at all though, and a lot better than many other BBQ places, but my expectations weren't met. Another good thing about this place was how fast we were served. Omaha long has needed a good bbq joint, and this one fits the bill. A lot of work goes into good q, so you can't expect it to be cheap, and it's not. Together, the two of us walked out about $50 lighter in the wallet, but so full, we had (almost) no complaints. And $50 really isn't so bad when the food is so good. I had ribs and burnt ends, with sides of bbq beans and mac and cheese. My partner in crime had ribs and brisket (kind of sort of the exact same order), with sides of fried okra and the mac and cheese. We also got a single serving of cornbread, just to try it, and really, the single slice is plenty large enough to share. We'll start with less than awesome and work our way up to delicious, which will only take a sec. Suffice to say, we won't order the mac again. Mine was dry and as such had little flavor. I had plenty of other food, so I didn't take it back, just didn't eat it. The other serving of mac, once you tipped it upside down from its little cup, had plenty of sauce, but even still, wasn't much to write home about. The beans were great! They had a little zing to them, but not too spicy. I'd definitely order them again -- not too sweet, not too oniony, just delicious. The ribs ... everything I've been craving in a good rib that isn't from our own grill. Plenty of meat in a three-rib-serving. Next up -- burnt ends. These are the pointy tips of the brisket and were cooked just right -- tender and juicy. They didn't need sauce, but I tried each of the three anyway. The Southern mustard sauce wasn't the golden color and heavy mustard flavor; it had just a hint and was surprisingly good. We tried the "hot" sauce and found it not too hot, not too sweet, and generally a good basic sauce. The "original" sauce struck me as spicier than the hot, but again, a very good bbq sauce. The brisket might have been a bit overcooked, but not by much. It was tender, delicious, and an ample serving size. The fried (whole) okra was very good -- not greasy and with good cornmeal flavor. Finally, the cornbread was moist, slightly sweet, delicious, and again, an ample serving size. So, how many times can I say delicious? (I need to get out my thesaurus.) Oklahoma Joe's is a welcome addition to the Omaha restaurant scene -- now, if only we could get one a little farther west. read more

12/04/18 Since Joe's Kansas City BBQ (originally Oklahoma Joe's) is one of our favorite BBQ's and one of it's founding partners, Joe Davidson was bringing the Oklahoma Joe's name Omaha we were looking forward to trying it out. The restaurant is located in the Aksarben Village, at 1912 S 67th St. in Omaha. The appearance is what you would expect of a restaurant in a new office building, the uniqueness comes from the furnishings and pictures on the wall. The restroom was very clean and that is usually a sign that the rest of the restaurant is also clean. The staff is helpful and friendly and many seem to be students. I had the Rib and one Meat Dinner plate: ribs, brisket and toast with sides of beans and coleslaw. The ribs "fall off the bone" cooked had a good flavor, but were not like the ones we got in KC. The beans were delicious. The coleslaw was unique in that it was spicy which I liked but it had a brown color that gave it an unappetizing appearance, but I liked it. My wife had the Rib Dinner (1/2 Slab):ribs and toast with sides of beans and cornbread. She enjoyed her whole meal. It is definitely a different Oklahoma Joe's than the one in Kansas City, but overall this is one of the better BBQ's. in Omaha. My only issue is that portions are small for the price, but then this is the Aksarben area and prices generally higher. read more

Oklahoma Joe's BBQ was very good. The service was very good(friendly). We waited for our food for about 5 minutes. The location and inside are very cute!! We got the ribs, burnt ends, pulled chicken, and brisket. The meat wasn't drowned in sauce. No fatty pieces. For sides we got the BBQ beans, green beans, and potato salad. The green beans had a smoking flavor with bits of pork. The BBQ beans tasted like normal beans from a barbecue place. Same with the potato salad. Overall I give this place a 9 out of 10 read more

The second time we've ordered take-out from here, and they've managed to screw up the order each time. The first time? OK, accidents happen. It was at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant was new-ish, and OK. I'll cut some slack. The second time? It's beginning to look like a trend. The ribs were ok. Not the best I've had. Onion rings were ready made from diced onion. Gren beans and baked beans were good. The real insult, and third strike, came with the brownie I ordered for $4.99. The menu mentioned brownie. Nothing else. The brownie was sitting in a puddle of chocolate sauce and flat Reddi Wip, with a dixie cup of vanilla ice cream on the side. My wife had the BarbeQuelossal, which was their imitation of KC's famous Z man sandwich. That one wasn't as good. She had to add sauce, and the number one rule of good BBQ is that sauce isn't needed. Both of us liked the beans, which might be better than the KC version... if you like onions. That being said, Oklahoma Joes is probably better than many other spots in town. Just don't compare it to the Kansas City legend. The KC joint changed their name for a reason. Don't confuse the two, and don't expect the KC version. read more

I love a good bbq and haven't tried Oklahoma Joe's. I will start by saying I have never been to the Kansas City location, I always have Q39 in KC. The ribs were tender with a decent smoke flavor. Not the best I have had, but better than most Omaha chain restaurants. The onion rings were ok. The fried okra was good, but normally it is served sliced at other restaurants, just different here. Was excited to see another BBQ place come to the Omaha area. Unfortunately they fell short. Tried them 3 times and every time was a disappointment. I first tried the ribs. Sadly they tasted as if someone thought you could set the oven to 180 and leave them in indefinitely without an issue. They were so dry the texture was close to jerky. Beans tasted like a can of off the shelf with some hot pepper added. Not great but not absolutely terrible. 2nd time I had the smoked sausage. Tasted like it was store brand something or another farms. Not bad, but could have had 3 times the amount for half the price but getting it from the grocery store. 3rd try told me I'd for sure not be back. Granted I came in about 20min to close, but they had already dumped the sweet tea and were staring to shut down. They reminded me three times they closed in 20 min between the time I ordered and the time I left. Not a great way to treat customers. Icing on the cake is when the people knew I was drinking unsweetened tea and decided to dump what was left at 10 min to close when I needed a refill. Although the lady apologized, she still felt the need to remind me again that they were closing soon. That was their third strike. I won't go back even though they are just 5 min from home. I'd rather drive to the BBQ off 156th and Maple. Never a bad experience there. read more

I thought over all it was pretty tasty! I love me some BBQ and I went in without expectations that it was going to be like the one that used to be in KC. I tried the burnt ends and the ribs. I previously had tried the pulled pork which was just okay in my books. The burnt ends were pretty good but inconsistent. While some were fall apart meat candy, many were over cooked tough and hard. The ribs were actually very good! The ribs did remind me of the ribs I had in the KC Joe's. Almost fall of the bone, super tender and had a good smoky taste. My only regret was forgetting to order them naked. Never a fan of BBQ meat that is served with sauce already on it. These ribs didn't need it. The baked beans were very good. A tad sweet and spicy and also had brisket in them. The flavor reminded me a bit of Jack Stack's beans from KC which are my favorite BBQ beans! The cornbread was good as well. I so wish I could review the bread pudding but they forgot to put it in my to go bag. Heartbreaking!! Ha...they were very nice when I called about it and will be reimbursing me but dang!! Ok folks. I'm live in Kansas City and am very familiar with the name Oklahoma Joes. In my opinion, the Kansas City locations made the name famous. I knew that there were locations also in Oklahoma that were run by another partner. A few years back, the Kansas City locations changed their name to Joes Kansas City to identify more with Kansas City. They are the locations names #1 BBQ in America and the President would have catered into Air Force One. Folks, Joes Kansas City is the one that Anthony Bourdain said was one of his 13 places to eat before you die. So imagine my surprise when I see this plastered on this locations walls. I then asked the person and they said they are affiliated with the Oklahoma locations and not Kansas City. There's nothing more irritating than misleading advertising that gives credit where it hasn't been earned. This is why I'm telling people this up front in my post. With that being said, I'm going to give my honest opinion. This place is not the same quality as the Kansas City location. Their food is alright but not outstanding. They have a similar menu with some similar names but make no mistake, it's the little things that count and this isn't the same. You pay close to $3 for a side of fries that you can fit in the palm of your hand. Where is the famous seasoning too? None. Now let's try the famous potato salad. Nope, not the same. It's again, alright but not mouth watering It was cold and chunky. Like it had been just out of a freezer. Now I had the hog heaven jumbo sandwich. This carries the same name in Kansas City as it does here. The sausage came out cut in half but not sliced up. Makes it hard to eat that on a sandwich. The pulled pork was in the verge of dry. Again, alright but not outstanding. Definitely not the same quality as Kansas City. My friend that came with me had the same opinion. The meal cost $18 and was overpriced for what you got. The portions were small and tasted good but not great. Just know that this is not the quality or the same as the locations in Kansas City and you might enjoy it more than I did. Came here during the soft opening. The place, as expected, was packed. However, the line moved fairly swiftly and the service was prompt. I have been to, formerly known as, Oklahoma Joe's in Kansas City, both the original gas station location and one of their newer chain locations. Tasty BBQ, though I felt the newer location was weaker from a food standpoint. In any case, I can't draw any direct comparisons between the two since 1) I am not a BBQ expert and 2) the visits are so far removed from each other temporally that I can't give a fair comparison. Notwithstanding, I did enjoy the Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwich and fries that I had during my visit. It definitely needed the sauce, but it wasn't too dry. Flavor was solid. Also had a chance to taste a rib. That was pretty darn tasty. Despite the posted claims to fame all over the restaurant (which I don't know are attributed to the KC chain or this one), the food did not blow me away, but it was good, tasty BBQ. I recommend the ribs. Prices are comparable to other BBQ restaurants in the area. I feel like BBQ is so subjective that it's hard to say which one is the best. I was sad to see Dickie's BBQ leave. Then when when I saw that Oklahoma Joe's was coming in I thought hey, definitely will be trying it! Then I got the chance! The atmosphere was like many other chain generic BBQ places. Not bad not good. The staff was very friendly and nice. Got the two meat with turkey and brisket. Got also some corn bread, potato salad and sweet potato fries. The meat was tender, juicy and full of flavor. I liked the corn bread, moist with slightly sweet flavor. The sweet potato fries were delicious, some of the best I've had! The potato salad had good flavor and consistency. A worthy replacement for Dickies.
