We ended up getting a large with 3 servings of salmon, masago, and tuna as our proteins. We also ordered two spam musubis. The staff was super friendly and very accomodating. They made sure we got everything we ordered and helped us navigate through the menu and ingredients. To our surprise, we even got miso soup, which we didn't order. I believe this comes with an order of a poke bowl. For the poke bowl itself, the fish was fresh and the bowl was huge and filling. The spam musubis were alright. We tried saving them for later so we would have breakfast in the morning before our flight, but it didn't last until then. I really enjoy their large selection of protein. Most poke places don't have the number of selections like they do here. There is a small and large portion where you basically get either 3 scoops of meat or 5 scoops everything else is the same. You pick your toppings. We went with half rice and half salad per the staff recommendation. We opted for salmon, yellow tail, and tuna for the protein. I don't recall the other selections or the salad dressing. We got soy sauce , wasabi, and Furikake (I think) on the side plus Miso soup as well. This was the takeout order by the way. Everything was fresh whether it was fish or vegetable. The portions are generous with a regular at three scoops of protein and a large at five scoops. A regular is more than enough for food for lunch! What is really unique about Okome Don is that offerings, none of which cost $1 extra to include (yellowtail, masago, tobiko, avocado are the typical culprits at other places). There are also more protein options than other places, including items not on the menu (surf clam). Here, you can get a true hanachirashi don if you wanted, as eel, tuna, salmon, crab, octopus, yellowtail, white tuna, and other options are available. There are a lot of delicious vegetable and topping choices. I was really impressed with the "extra" protein options that were considered veggies, including tofu and tamago. I got a regular sushi rice base with two scoops yellowtail and one scoop of salmon, with edamame, cucumber, tofu, green onion, avocado, ponzu, seaweed salad, tamago, fried onion, and nori. The ponzu was more sweet than tangy, so next time I might switch to the spicy soy or combine the two. Overall, it was a healthy portion and very fresh and tasty. Now that I've tried more poke places in Houston, I'm a little bit more discriminating in what I'm looking for. Okome Don scores sky high in customization, with fairly good quality and portion size to round it out. Earlier this week, I came around 5:00 as part of a 7-person party, but since the weather was extremely blustery and cold, we were the only people there. The staff were really patient and helpful in explaining the choices to us, and offered delicious tips in choosing good pairs of sauces and toppings. As always at any poke place, I chose a half-salad/half-brown rice base, then added one scoop each of salmon, octopus, and yellowtail. Do note that although masago (the orange fish eggs), tobiko (more red), and crab meat count toward your protein scoops (3 for $10.50, 5 for $13.95), all of the choices afterwards are free...including avocado, tamago, and seaweed salad! (You can tell I loaded up on veggies.) After we sat down, the staff brought out a tray of complimentary miso soups for us, which was much appreciated. I enjoyed my bowl a lot and all of my friends cleaned their bowls out too. If you can't finish the portion, just ask them for a to-go lid to pop on your plastic bowl. Best of all, Okome Don partners with the Perka rewards app, allowing you to keep track of the number of bowls you buy (collect 10 stamps for a free one). Happily impressed with their poke, service and pricing! We came here for the first time on a Sunday evening. They weren't too busy, so we were able to ask questions and try sauces! You basically go through the line: pick size (3 or 5 scoops), pick your base (rice, salad), proteins (so many options: salmon, tuna, yellowtail, roe, cooked eel, etc), other ingredients (edamame, green onions, avocado...) and then sauce! They let you try the sauces but also give you recommendations. I got the spicy mayo and spicy poke sauce and it wasn't too spicy at all. Tip: mix the different sauces but also ask them to go lightly on them. They tend to add a lot more sauce than needed. Lastly, you get to add sides like seaweed salad, tamago egg, daikon radish, and crunchy seaweed and onions! Yum!! Fish is fresh, well cut and doesn't feel like the leftover scraps. All ingredients are well prepared - avocado is perfectly ripe and doesn't cost extra! Tamago was surprisingly good - a little sweet! They were generous with the seaweed salad and everything else too. Pricing is simple. No Nickel and dime over the extras! I love that it doesn't keep adding up as you go down the line. Atmosphere is clean and simple. Came here and got two regular bowls to-go. First, the differences between this place and other poke restaurants: customization and portions. The regular bowl includes 3 scoops of protein for $10.50, while most places only give you two. This allows for more variety, though the scoops are definitely smaller and end up adding to what would be two scoops at another poke restaurant. I really like that this place offers such unique proteins and toppings though. I got a base of sushi rice with red snapper, octopus, and scallop. If I could change anything, I wouldn't have gotten the scallop, as it had a fishier taste than I was expecting. I went to town on the toppings, most of which are free: avocado, sweet corn, edamame, tofu, seaweed salad, tamago, kimchi, and seaweed strips. I got the coconut ginger sauce. I loved that the bowl came with a free cup of miso soup. Overall, I did not feel as full as I usually do at poke restaurants, but the difference is only slight.
