My roommate and I were craving Poke for dinner. Usually, I like to indulge in poke at Poke in the Bowl, but because I forgot my coupons, I wanted to give Seaside Poke a chance. Some pros include good service, an efficient ordering system (you can fill out a small slip of paper at the front of the restaurant), and the unique oil selection option. But unfortunately, my biggest gripe was their food. Upon receiving my order, my roommate noted how small the bowl was. While size didn't matter (initially), they gave me way more rice than protein, and by the end of my meal, I found myself having to supplement my leftover rice with my own protein. A small bowl was 3 scoops of protein (I requested 2 scoops of spicy tuna and 1 scoop of spicy yellowtail), but frankly, they were a bit stingy with their portions because it did not seem like 3 scoops. I felt that paying $14 for how much I was getting turned me off. Furthermore, my roommate and I agreed that the sauces and how the fish was seasoned were more salty than spicy. I requested 2 types of spicy raw fish and a spicy aioli sauce and still found the spice to be subtle, almost nonexistent. In addition, some premium ingredients, such as Masago and Seaweed Salad, would have been free elsewhere. Overall, I was unsatisfied with my experience and unsure if I'd return. While taste is subjective, I'd suggest improving portion sizes by fixing the rice-to-protein ratio; past reviews have expressed similar sentiments, so I know I'm not alone in feeling like the portions are absurd. Also worth mentioning is that they give free dessert (ube, matcha, and pandan rice crispies) if you leave a Google review, which I feel could skew the ratings. read more

I was visiting my family in Houston and my cousin took me here for poke. I absolutely loved trying this place - perfect amount of protein, the fish tasted fresh, not too much sauce, and great portion sizes. I even liked how they had utensils corresponding to different levels of expertise, which was funny. The ambiance was nicer inside but there is seating inside and outside. The staff was nice and completed our order pretty fast. I loved the Spicy Shoyu signature bowl with rice as the base, spicy tuna instead of salmon, and seaweed salad added. Usually poke places can be stingy with the amount of protein they add but this place added the perfect amount! I also love seaweed salad so I was ecstatic to see it as a topping. Seaside poke is my favorite poke spot in Houston! They have a location in EADO as well as in the understory. I usually go to the understory location and it's quick and efficient during my lunch work break! Delicious and fres fish with great toppings. I love the yellowtail and tuna. I love the truffle toppings as well along with crispy onion and shallots. It makes a great and delicious lunch with not feeling too heavy. I usually go to Poke in a Bowl for my Poke cravings, but my friend and I decided to try Seaside Poke. We both ordered the regular-size build-your-own bowl and both agreed we were kind of underwhelmed by the portion size and overall quality. Food (2.8/5): Their salmon was pretty good. I like how they give big fatty chunks, which makes it so satisfying to eat. I also enjoyed how there were so many crunchy options to add texture. The crispy rice and crispy garlic, in particular, really elevated the experience. The spicy tuna however was a bit on the salty end because they use spicy shoyu instead of spicy mayo to season it. Also, for personal preference, I didn't like how finely ground the tuna was. I also didn't like how limited their menu was, with items that are commonly included for free, like kanji and seaweed salad, marked up as premium. Overall the poke flavor wasn't bad but the rice to toppings and protein ratio was off. The whole portion was pretty small already, but rice took up around 3/4 of the container. Both my friend and I had a lot of leftover rice but were still hungry. Dessert (3/5): My friend got a free dessert because she left a Google review, so I got to try 3 different flavors of their rice crispy dessert. I would say all three were definitely on the sweeter side, but I really liked the flavor. Ube coconut in particular had a very strong flavor and I enjoyed the aftertaste. The green tea flavor was probably my favorite thought because it was less sweet than the others. Service/Ambiance: They have a really good ordering system where you just check off what you want on paper and hand it to the cashier. Ordered the Truffle yellowtail bowl (half rice half greens as base, added wakame and avocado for extra) for dinner and Pandan flavored Rice Krispies for dessert while staying late at the office one day. The ingredients were fresh for poke place standard, and the flavor of the bowl came very well together. The price was reasonable for the location. The first time I went, I got the tuna aioli and the yellowtail signature bowl. I gotta say the flavors the good! u get a choice if u want it with salad, rice or 1/2 and 1/2. And u can also customize your bowl too if u want. I loved both of the bowls I had on day one that 2 days later, I came back again. The Tuna aioli was my fav at this time. I just asked for Serrano peppers added to my bowl to add some spice. I wished that they would cut the tuna into larger chunks instead of dicing it. And I learned from the first time eating there that when I went the second time, I asked for the large bowl instead of the regular. So the regular has 3 scoops which is the size of a tablespoon. I got the large bowl the second visit which is 5 scoops. That was way better. I highly recommend seaside poke and I want to remind yall to make sure u pay for your parking so u don't get a ticket. Parking was very cheap. 30 minutes was 45 cents. I would pay that over getting a ticket anyway :) I will be back here for my poke cravings. The fish here, very fresh. My new favorite poke spot. Everything was so fresh! The avocado was perfectly ripe, which is important if I'm paying an up charge. They have yellowtail which is hard to come by in poke places in the city (and they're actually in stock. And they have miso soup! Which I loveeeee. It is expensive however. I've never paid over $2.50 for miso soup, so thats an upgrade. They also do a lot of citrus accents with oranges. I didn't try this time, but I'm curious so I'll keep my review updated. A regular filled me up. I do wish that had a bowl smaller than a regular though. Two Proteins is normally plenty for me. It's a cute spot too with outdoor seating. Check it out! read more

I'm such a fan of this place, even before the pandemic! It's a great gem to have in EaDo. I remember when it was only 1 of 3 places on this particular block, but businesses have really blossomed in EaDo since then. It's nice to see this neighborhood growing. I like the taste, efficiency, and attention to detail of Seaside Poke. For a while, it was my go-to Friday lunch. I always ordered a regular salmon ponzu bowl and the hubs always went for a large truffle yellow-tail. We didn't patronize weekly when the pandemic began, because we didn't know what to expect. After reading about how they were handling orders, we felt comforted enough to patronize. It was great and well-organized! There were a couple of people waiting for their orders outside the restaurant as we approached. As we approached (in our masks ofc), an employee came out with a clipboard (and wearing a mask) to take our order. We were able to order, pay, and take our food home in adequate time all the while maintaining physical-distance from employees and other customers. We didn't get to check our order until we were home, but it was not only accurate, but it the names of our orders were written on the lids as well. This was great - taste, efficiency, or attention to details was never compromised all the while following CDC orders. We're happy to re-add Seaside Poke to our take-out rotation. read more

Still five stars, just giving an update - COVID edition! I stopped by my all time favorite poke spot for an early outdoor dinner with a friend. We opted for two orders of the best bowl ever - the Tuna Aioli. I'm so glad that seaside has kept this menu option because it's my absolute favorite. It tasted almost as good as usual with the delicious shoyu, avocado, tuna (and more), though the sauce was a bit less than usual. My friend went back for extra sauce and they were very accommodating. Nonetheless, something to keep in mind if you order delivery or pickup here! They are taking a good amount of COVID precautions - there's a table setup as you enter where you can either place an order or pickup. I saw someone waiting by the table area but I'm not sure if they're open for indoor dining. An employee took our order through a plastic screen and operated the payment on the iPad, only taking our credit card to swipe. The wait was only several minutes long and we were able to enjoy our delicious meal outside! There are a few tables overlooking EaDo (and the freeway) and it wasn't at all crowded when we went. The most recent reviews in here are correct. The portion is quite skimpy. While they provide a lot of protein for the regular ($11.37 after tax), they are so light on the toppings (compared to other competitors like PokeWorks) that I was left eating just fish towards the end of my meal. I was left not close to full after my meal which is disappointing for what I paid for. It doesn't compare to other poke places price wise. I've been to Seaside many times over the years, and it remains one of the best poké spots in Houston. I especially love the Kani Bake Bowl (for those of you who prefer cooked/not raw fish). Their unique combos with the ingredients and the House Shoyu Sauces are what elevates your bowl. I always put the Truffle Shoyu, and the House Aioli in my bowl. They also sell the Shoyu by the bottles in the restaurant along with their house made rice crispy treats- Pandan, Ube, and Matcha flavored, for a sweet treat after your meal. The customer service is always exceptional and the staff is very friendly. There is a good amount of space at this location, but it would probably be best as carry out. They also have a couple other locations in the Houston area which is wonderful, because they truly do poke the best. Hopefully one day they branch out to the burbs because I've been loving seeing Seaside grow! read more

I have been in the restaurant industry for 10+ years and I know how detrimental bad reviews can be. For this reason, I try to resolve all my issues without leaving bad reviews and potentially harming a restaurant's reputation. Mistakes happen and don't necessarily reflect the quality of a restaurant, I get that. However, my experience with Seaside Poke has been absolutely terrible. They should be held accountable for how they're treating me so no other guest experiences what I have. I ordered two large poke bowls and received regular sized poke bowls with incorrect bases and proteins. Obviously, I was given someone else's order. When I went to return the food the cashier didn't apologize or try to make it right. They simply asked what was wrong with the order... when I explained the order was incorrect I was told that a manager wouldn't be in until Monday. This was on Saturday night. To not have a manager present is unacceptable. I waited until Monday and when I didn't receive a call, I called the restaurant. I spoke to someone who said they were a manager and again, no apology, no attempt to make the mistake right, simply the question once again "what was wrong with the order." When I explained again that I was given the wrong order the "manager" told me they don't usually give refunds and they would have to talk to someone "higher up" to see if they could refund me. So at the moment I have paid this restaurant $45, received no food, no apology, no attempt to resolve the mistake, and still no refund. This is atrocious customer service. Be better, Seaside Poke! Your guests deserve better treatment than this! If I could give 0 stars, I would. read more

After hearing all the raves of SeaSide being one of the best poke places in town, I finally got to see if it was true or not. Parking is in the lot across reserved for Seaside. Walking inside, it wasn't too crowded for a Friday night. At the start of the line, you can pick one of the fixed poke bowls or build your own bowl. A regular size is 3 scoops of proteins and a large is 5 scoops. Base choices include rice or spring mix. You can also do half and half. My two favorite proteins are the salmon and spicy tuna. SeaSide offers a variety of toppings from greens to textures and even oil add-on's. Some of my favorite sauces are the truffle shoyu and ponzu. This place is probably the first poke place with the ito togorashi which is a dried chili in thin strands. They also have a few dessert options of Rice Krispies treats. Comes in three flavors, matcha, ube, and pandan. Matcha flavor was pretty solid, not too sweet. Friendly staff and relatively fast service. It seemed to be a slow night, so there was only two people working at the time. I was pleased with the amount of toppings they had. A large size was definitely worth it. This place has gone downhill. I understand inflation of the base price but yellowtail is 25 cents extra and masago is 50 cent extra and not notes anywhere. The portions are smaller now too. I've also eaten at the tunnel location and they're even worse on the portions. They used to be great. Time to find a new poke spot. read more

I was told that this was the best poke joint in Houston but I beg to differ. I was invited here by a fellow yelper with extremely high expectations. While the poke bowl was good, I've had comparable bowls at other establishments. As I was relatively new to trying different poke bowls, I went with a Tuna Aioli but substituted the meat with Salmon. Although I went with a large sized bowl, it felt like a 'French large'. It was still petite in my opinion. After finishing my bowl, I still felt that I could eat more, so I went ahead and ordered a truffle Salmon. I am familiarizing myself with all the ingredients but for right now, my pictures would have to do the talking. Looks like I packed the bowls with the right toppings and it was absolutely delish. The workers were very friendly and did assist in creating a perfect bowl. They were giving recommendations on which toppings to add to each bowl. This review should have been written a long time ago because it's my favorite poke in Houston! I'm usually not a fan of poke bowls or sushi rolls because I prefer to eat sashimi/nigiri. However, the bowls here are always so fresh and I love their unique toppings, specialty oils, and seasonal ingredients. I usually make my own bowl but I like to base it off of the truffle yellowtail which I add salmon to. For those who don't like raw fish, they also have a kani bake that is pretty good as well. I also love their flavored rice krispies that come in ube, pandan, and matcha. Every once in awhile they also have salmon skin chips which are delicious as well! I visited this restaurant during their grand opening earlier this year and vowed to return so today I was able to make it by for lunch. I chose the Classic Poke bowl with rice and 5 scoops of protein for $13. I requested the regular tuna and spicy tuna for the seafood (see pic). For a drink, I visited the self serve drink station for one of their Maine Root Vanilla Creme beverages. It was a very good meal as everything tasted fresh and flavorful. SeaSide Poke is the nicest, cleanest, friendliest, and fanciest poke place I have ever seen. It falls along the lines of fad poke bowls rather than traditional Hawaiian style a la Hawaii or Vegas. However, it is so fantastic that everyone should give it a try, even my mother! First of all, yellowtail is a staple fish, not a rotating option or specialty item! The signature bowls are also not fixed, meaning you can add or change ingredients in them and they are made fresh, rather than a competitor in the Village that will not modify those because they are *gasp* premade. Specialty ingredients are not kept from customers in the ordering process either! A small is 3 scoops, large is 5 scoops (of protein). I got the large both times I went this week. The first time: I ordered the signature truffle yellowtail but mixed it up with some salmon (brain food yum). It had shoyu, cilantro, puffed rice, red tobiko, serrano, and truffle oil. I added green onion, cucumber, avocado, micro shiso, and nori. It was fantastic! I also picked up the matcha rice krispie treats which I scarfed down while walking outside. My brother Jeff L. got the truffle yellowtail bowl as designed and added the salmon skin chips with tomatillo sauce plus got one bag each of the ube, pandan, and matcha rice krispie treats! He got the last ube so I am glad I tasted them. Matcha is my fave though! Today I got a large with 3 scoops of spicy tuna, 1 yellowtail, and 1 salmon. I mixed it up with gochuchang, and it came with radish, green onion, and cucumber. I added serranos, ponzu, yuzu tobiko, and then instead of the puffed rice and sesame, I got nori and fried shallot. I also picked up another bag of matcha rice krispie treats! This was delicious and quite spicy, so I was seriously cleared up to breathe after eating this! The ingredients are so fresh and there are so many options possible. I love the flexibility of the offerings and the additions of premium ingredients is reasonable (tobiko 50 cents, avocado $1) but masago is included I think! I also got to try the yuzu kosho mayo which is a seasonal flavor for a salmon bowl. Everyone who knows me knows I love yuzu anything, but I am not a big mayo eater so I did not want to have mayo-y fish for a lunch. It was nice of the cashier to let me taste it though!
