I got a signature bowl and there were 5 small cubes of tuna and the smallest scoop of rice. You can see from the photos that there is barely any food in there. Every ingredient was measured with a tiny spoon or a pinch of something- he actually went back in and took out onion slices because he deemed it "too much". I asked for Serrano peppers and he said "bowl is as-is". I reached for chop sticks after he already placed a fork on my tray, without asking me, and he told me- "it's one or the other" so I had to put back the chop sticks. I usually come here when I have a craving for poke and am always fairly satisfied. I usually customize my own bowl and get 3 protein servings which usually consist of spicy tuna and spicy salmon. The fish is always fresh - just be sure to eat it right away. There are so many different add-ons to choose from - this place is like a chipotle but for poke. I'm always left pretty stuffed! I've also tried the spam musubi's here which are great! And I've had the miso soup which is basically hot water- there is absolutely no flavor to the soup so don't bother wasting your money. I'm a big fan of Pokeworks, but this location was a huge disappointment. It was the worst service I've ever experienced at any Pokeworks. The spam in the musubi I ordered was clearly burnt and tasted sour--like it had gone bad. When I brought it up, the girl at the counter was kind and offered to replace it. However, a male employee stepped in and rudely asked, "Are you going to pay for another one?" I calmly explained that the spam was burnt and tasted off, but he remained confrontational and insisted I pay for a replacement. I offered him to take a bite from the untouched end, he refused. I wasn't concerned about the $2--I told him I didn't want another one anymore, but that they really shouldn't be serving food that's clearly gone bad. They left the rest of the musubi out anyway, which was even more concerning. I genuinely wish good luck to anyone buying musubi from this location. I walked in hoping for a relaxing meal after work and left feeling disrespected. Whether this was just someone having a bad day or something deeper, the attitude was unacceptable. Pretty good option for poke although it did leave me wanting more. I created a custom salmon bowl with double salmon and a variety of toppings. I did feel like the salmon was on the skimpy side given the double order. I also thought the sauce could have been more prevalent -- I barely tasted it. Poke works is hands down the best place for poke in Houston! They have several locations, and I've always received great service and food at all of the ones I've been to. They have tons of toppings and sauce options, and they're not stingy with them either. I usually get the build your own bowl, but I don't think you can go wrong with the preset bowls if you're not sure what to get! They also have cooked chicken, tofu, and shrimp options if you're nervous about trying the raw fish. This particular location is smaller than some of their other ones, so if you're wanting to dine in (after the pandemic of course!!), it might be better to choose another location. Located in a Target shopping center off of Westheimer in the heart of Montrose. Interior is clean and it's a Chipotle for Poke, pretty much. Plenty of fish and topping options. I used this location many times but lately everything is degraded. Today it was imperative to write this review because l would like people to be aware that the employees are hired from the street and without any training. The HYGENE is totally MISSING. One of the employees put the hands in the rice warmer with the same gloves he was cleaning and the girl that was preparing my food had her red long hair inside my rice bowl all the time. After that some of the food fell out of the bowl and she grabbed and put it back on it. The tables were dirty and the trash cans full. We come here regularly out of pure convenience. Each time the servers are unfriendly. We usually come around 8pm, place closes at 9pm. Each time the servers refuse to let us eat inside because they're closing soon and have already cleaned up the inside tables. As someone who worked in food service through high school and college, I would never shut down the dining area an hour early. Last time, the servers told us that they were having a meeting there which is why we couldn't sit inside. I ran a couple errands in the same plaza and came back to my car (parked at Pokeworks) both at 8:30, 9 and 9:30 and no meeting. Came here for my regular torched salmon poke bowl as a pregnant lady. Was having a stressful day but Maggie absolutely made my day. She defines what customer service is all about. It's not clear from the menu on the wall or pictures in the resturant that they make burritos so I'm glad I happened to see it on Yelp before going. In a word - okay. I've been meaning to try Pokéworks for months after hearing about their numerous locations opening across Houston. I was a little hesitant at the idea of a poke chain, though. I ordered the Hawaiian Classic with Pokéworks classic sauce. Frankly, I was underwhelmed. The flavor was meager and didn't pack much of a punch. Granted, I probably should have tried a spicier sauce, but I really just didn't care for the sauce I had. However, service was great and the employees were really helpful! They allowed me to sample both the kale noodles (before I decided on plain white rice) and were very friendly. Perks of Pokéworks - HUGE quantities of fish and just about everything else (I couldn't finish my bowl!), service, and location is pretty unbeatable. The interior is quite pretty, and there's tons of (free) parking outside. Also, free miso soup if you check in on Yelp! Drawbacks - it just doesn't have the same personalized feel as some of the other poke places. I might revise my opinion after trying a few spicier bowls here, but the ingredient combinations of their signature bowls don't seem as inspired as some of the other custom bowls at my poke faves. Apparently ubereats just ended their Shabbat no delivery charge special so ya homey needed to put on a rain coat and go grab this fish in person in a storm to avoid an entirely unnecessary $10 delivery charge. That is ten lap dances in some places, and 100 at other titty bars out by the airport that are doing THE MOST. Whereas some gents like to make it "rain" with benjies in profligate displays of (hidden) consumer debt and keeping up with the Joneses when their soundcloud mixtape is doin' well, I like to make it "hail" with loose change because I know the value of a good deal. While Pokéworks is a chain, this is the highest rated poké joint in Houston among my Yelp friendos and trusted sources. While I have played OG Pokemon (Blue, holla @ dem pokermans) on the Game Boy Color my only experience with poké food was at the Agu Ramen YEE on the west side where John R shared a taste of his poké side, and I shared my takoyaki side. However, my real draw to this joint was the poké burrito version rather than the poké bowl scenario as it was at Agu. Sushi burritos (here, a poké burrito so tomacco-tomacco) always end up on my list when I travel because seafood is divine enough for a date with Dorothy Mantooth, and I like things in burrito format but I am as much as an anarchist about what fills it as I am about other things. In fact, sushi is the right sort because that means you will not need to go to the Chipotle ever again. It struck me that I had never even had a sushi burrito in Houston which was weird, and I resolved to have one here rather than just when I am traveling which I suppose is my version of the hoes in different area codes rule that what happens on the road really doesn't stay much of a secret for any amount of time what with all of this social media that we have these days. Hashtag blessed? Set back in the Shepherd Square strip mall at the high traffic Shepherd/Westheimer intersection there is ample free parking available in the surface lot for all of the businesses in this strip mall. My disdain for this strip mall has historically been centered on the Bad Randalls shopping experience where you are not only pestered by homeless beggars on the way in the store and inside the store but also as you are trying to load up your car with groceries so you really get the Full Silkwood experience from a shopping foray into Bad Randalls. Over prior Shabbats I had done my research on what I wanted so even though I had not yet visited I walked in ready to place like my order like el jefe. The joint was empty when I walked in. The online order type pick up is right when you walk in but if you are sashaying in to order in person like we did back in 19-dickety-two (the Germans took our word for the actual number) in ye olden days you go towards the back of the resto and start there, winding down the you-choose-its line. There was one teen assembling my order and a surprisingly large number of people doing other things back there given that I was the only person ordering, the one person seated had already left, and only one online order had come in for pick up the whole time I was there. An employee was loudly smacking the metal trays (from dine in orders) against each other and doing the gymrat annoying thing where you drop metal on metal and it makes a horrendous unnecessary amount of noise. Like the metal on metal noise was both so jarring and punctuating unpleasantly loud it drowned out my order and I had to repeat myself a few times over it, feeling like I was posted up at the gat dang club trying to shout to a 19 year old over too-loud Drake music so I could get them digits. I was getting my fishies to go anyway so I could pair with liquors and bad decisions, but had I intended on dining in originally, given the noise I would have def changed my order to go. For the burrito you have so many options so you need to take them in stride. First, do you want 2 or 3 proteins? Get 3 homey, there were Three Stooges and that can be your lodestar for most decisions. Then pick your proteins - ahi tuna looks b-e-a-utiful and so do the scallops. Then you pick toppings and sauce. You can rack up some new charges by adding pay-to-play extras or stick to the tried and true freebos. Then on sauce station they ask you whether it goes light, medium, or heavy. Useful stuff: check in to the biz on the yelp app and you get a free miso soup. I love businesses that take advantage of the yelp app check in offers to offer us nice stuff. Good work, Pokéworks! I think I can safely speak for all of us that we are waiting for Juul to begin releasing Juulpods that are poké burrito flavoured. Until then, we will just have to mosey on down to one of the many fine Pokéworks locations and get our poké burrito fix the olde fashioned way. read more

I was in the area and decided to try this place out. Was craving poke and have heard nothing but good things about Pokeworks. Man oh man, this was really worth the hype. I built my own bowl and it really hit the spot! The sauces were all so delicious, and everything tasted so fresh. Which is what you always want when coming to eat poke. Pokeworks seems to by my go-to for lunch these days. I've been to the Yale location (in The Heights) a few times, but most recently I ordered delivery from this Richmond Ave location (delivery so I could continue to sit poolside). The new Kale Noodle option as your base (versus the mixed greens, quinoa, sushi rice or brown rice) caught my eye, and dude ... it's good. I ordered the Hawaiian Classic and added a scoop of salmon - cause sushi grade salmon is my jam. Just $11.50 (+$3 for the extra scoop of salmon) is a good deal. Pokeworks bowls have decreased in size. The 2 protein bowl is so small now. It barely fills you up. Why the change?

I've frequented Pokeworks in NYC and loved it there so figured this would be nice as the store is bigger and there are way more seats inside. The price is reasonable for the amount you get whether a regular bowl (2 protein) or a large bowl (3 protein) plus all the toppings you want. The avocado is a dollar fifty extra, macadamia nuts a dollar extra, and some other fixins are a plus charge too. Choose a base (white rice, brown rice, noodle, etc) and whether you want a bowl or a burrito. The burrito is essentially a large sushi roll. My friend and I created our bowl as we moved through the assembly line. I was satisfied with how fast the line moved, the color and freshness of the fish, and the variety of toppings Pokeworks offered. I was also able to choose a few sauces and not just one, which was adequate for my large pokebowl. I have never had lotus chips in my bowl before and that I thought was interestingly delicious. Next time, I'll definitely add more crunch to my bowl with some fried wonton strips too. Pokeworks also held a grand opening event that offered everyone a BOGO free deal plus an exclusive coconut. However, the food quality here and ambiance are more than enough to justify the additional charges. The food here is absolutely amazing! All my toppings were inspired by a sushi roll I recently ate with a coworker. I was going to order shrimp, but tried the chicken instead. It was so gooood and refreshing even for eating on a cold day in Houston. I'm no poke bowl expert, but what I do like is the menu is accommodating so I can enjoy a meal with my poke expert friends. I have a weird food allergy when it comes to fish, and when my friends suggest poke to eat I automatically assume there's nothing for me to eat. Glad I gave this place a try. I came here on a Sunday evening for dinner. There is a huge shared parking lot out front so parking is not an issue. Inside it was clean, modern, and had a tropical Hawaiian flare. There wasn't any line and I was served right away. Service was friendly. I ordered the Classic Hawaiian bowl. All of the ingredients tasted fresh and I didn't feel like they skimped. With the signature bowls they give you an option to make a substitution but I kept mine as it was listed in the menu. If you check in with Yelp you get a free cup of miso soup. I'm not a big miso fan but decided to take advantage of the offer. The broth tasted good but I didn't want to try the cubes of tofu as I typically don't like those. Their fountain drinks are from Tractor Beverage, which uses non-GMO ingredients. Maybe it was a placebo effect but the Kola Cola Lite (cinnamon, vanilla, stevia) tasted really clean and simple.
