What a terrible experience to start our Maui visit with 3 kiddos. Called the location ahead because we were close by and was told they don't take reservations but on a first come first serve basis. Nothing wrong there. Got there at 6PM right after a 2-person party was seated at a table meant for a party of 6 when there were several open sitting at the bar. Not the best setup but nothing wrong there as well. So we decided to wait. About 30 mins later, a party of diners left the restaurant and kindly told us to inquire the open bar sittings that became available to sit our party of 5. We were told by a staff that she could not sit us at the bar because their only chef was at capacity serving the parties already seated so we would have to wait outside until 730pm. Understandable so we continued to wait. There was not sitting outside so the entire time we were standing. At this point it was 70 mins into our wait and a party of 2 diners showed up and they got immediately seated at the bar. That's when things start to go south. The server claimed that she didn't know we were still waiting even though we were told to wait outside until 730PM. Then another male came out who claimed he was there to de-escalate the situation. Nevertheless, with a condescending attitude that seemed we were begging to dine there. As frustrated we were after waiting for more than an hour, this person wouldn't even letting us get a word in without interruption. He didn't understand why we were upset at that point and showed zero concern for the fact that 3 kiddos 6,7, and 9 were tired and hungry while one member of our party was recovering from a recent ankle fx surgery had being standing for the last 70 mins before they seated the party which came after when we were told that wasn't feasible before. He then told us that they wouldn't seat kids at the bar regardless. I asked that If that was the case, why won't they be forthcoming an hr ago so we could have explored alternatives before many places close at 8PM on the island. Then he insisted that we were going in circles when in fact they led us on this wild goose chase. At which point there wasn't any reason why we would dine with them given the poor interaction, lack of concern and inability to take any responsibility for the situation. It's indeed an unfortunate experience to start our trip and first impression of Maui. But the silver lining was that there were others to make it up. We loved our experience at Sushi Paradise and Mama's Fish House of Norhtshore. Time spent on different beaches were a blast but sharing this experience hoping others won't find themselves in this situation read more

This is the least pretentious sushi bar I've ever been too. It's not flashy or full of crazy creative rolls at expensive prices. It's simple, fresh, and delicious! It's very small, fewer than 50 seats total, but I'm guessing. I was too busy eating to count. The restroom is locked outside access on the other side of the building. When I say simple, I mean bare bones simple. If you're fancy or high maintenance, maybe... oh, just go anyway and get over it. Quick dinner, no frills. Our family walked there from our rental house around 5:15, and it was empty. It was packed by 5:45 with a party of 4 waiting outside. The service was attentive with one server and one sushi chef. They were out of shrimp, but we made it work. It's important to note that they do not serve alcohol. I know! The table sign was from Sapporo, so I'm not sure what's up with that. I didn't ask. Hidden gem! The quality of fish here was AMAZING, reasonably priced, excellent service! We wandered around the Kihei food trucks for a bit and nothing stood out, we were so glad to find this place!! 100% recommend! Visiting a friend who lives on Maui and she had never heard of this new sushi place. Was a quick just before closing and can say nigiri hamachi, hotate, take, and ahi were massive and delicious.
