I stopped by Pappy's on a Wednesday around 1:00 PM, and even at that time there was a substantial line inside. Don't let that discourage you--it was absolutely worth the wait! I ordered the 1/2 slab and burnt ends platter with French fries, baked beans, and the fried corn on the cob. Everything was delicious, but the corn on the cob really stole the show. It's fried, which makes it unique, and OMG...it was so good! The staff kept the line moving and were prompt, friendly, and courteous throughout the experience. If you visit, be sure to grab a lemonade--it pairs perfectly with all the amazing BBQ. Pappy's definitely lived up to the hype, and I'd happily wait in line again for another meal.

Pappy's sure made me happy during my recent first visit to St. Louis! After researching all the best bbq restaurants in the city I settled on Pappy's for my first foray into the St. Louis bbq scene. There was a bit of a line when I first arrived - but coming from Texas it was nothing compared to some of the bbq lines i've waited in (plus you got to be in the AC) and the line did move pretty quickly. I went with a 2-meat plate and enjoyed the ribs (dry rub), burnt ends, and sides of fried corn on the cob, sweet potato fries, and the ice and fire pickles....absolutely everything that went into my mouth was better than the last bite. The ribs were falling off the bone, the burnt ends tender and smoky (and when paired with THOSE PICKLES YALL). Highly recommend this combo of treats! The serving sizes were generous and as it was I ended up being able to only eat about half my plate but the ribs made for a great midnight snack later! (the fries not so much but that's to be expected) The food, service, and ambiance were all amazing! Definitely worth the hype and a visit whether you're a local or tourist alike (you could tell both crowds were there).

This is my favorite barbecue restaurant in St. Louis. The ribs are phenomenal and the sides are amazing. Hi highly recommend trying this restaurant if you're visiting St. Louis.

Went on a road trip recently, and spent a few days in St. Louis. Since St. Louis has a whole style of rib named after it, I had to try and seek out the best in town. My research brought me here to Pappy's. I'm very glad it did. Ambiance starts with a line out the door, literally. You slowly shuffle down a long hallway full of Pappy's memorabilia. Then you make it to the ordering counter, order, and find a table. The dining room is huge, plenty of tables, with a full complement of sauces on each table. The service people at the counter were friendly, and so were the people delivering the food. The food came out quick and hot and delicious. We had baked beans and potato salad for sides, and they were pretty solid. Nothing show-stealing, but no complaints about them whatsoever. And of course, we got the ribs. Tender, juicy, a nice bite and chew, a decent bark, just a really wonderful rib. Better than any St. Louis style rib I've ever had back home in Florida. Other states, hard to say, the jury's out, but in that moment, I was eating a five-star rib. So good. We also got a 1/4 pound of the Burnt Ends. Usually, burnt ends are the king of meats, but I think we've entered the phase of America, where they're just another variety of meat and not necessarily upper echelon anymore. That being said, these were pretty ok. Should have gotten more ribs. Overall, Pappy's was pretty wow. Great local spot with a lot of pride and history, excellent ribs, I will definitely try to come back next time I'm in town.

Pros: Great little hustle and bustle ambiance. Lots of BBQ decor and photos on the wall. Good looking little place. Service was on point. Friendly cashier, food that came out promptly, and BBQ sauce provided on the table. As for the food, excellent ribs! Simultaneously were tender, but also had a nice bite to it. Great, subtle smoke flavor. Big fan of these ribs. I can see how they won their prestigious award. Cons: No real cons that I could tell. The burnt ends were not that much better than your average burnt ends. Not like those ribs. Tips: Get the ribs, get the beans, get the potato salad. Skip the ends and go with something else, I would recommend.

As good as advertised... We've only been to the Pappy's in St. Peter's, but the STL location is equally as good... It's not hard to see why The Food Network rated Pappy's as the "#1 rib joint in the country", as this place is next level bbq. You can smell the bbq from down the street and it will instantly make you hungry, even if you just ate... The place has the "cool bbq joint vibes", the employees are ultra-friendly, and it's fair/reasonable priced based on the quality of the food (runs between $40-50 for two people). Strongly recommend getting ribs, but their smoked chicken and turkey are outstanding as well. I didn't love their original bbq sauce (it was too thick and sweet with a heavy molasses flavor), but the hoodoo spicy sauce was out of this world. I would put Pappy's up against some of the other big named bbq joints in the country and they'd hold their own... Definitely worth the stop when in STL.

My order was called in. They are fast and friendly. Customer service is 5/5. The place was clean and orderly. Very easy food pickup process. The sweet potato fries and slaw were excellent. My chicken was flavorful but dry and the burnt ends were not at all what I'm use to. No fat, just thicker meat. Not a bad taste but I was expecting burnt ends of tradition. Overall, it's 4 stars for me. I will say that the BBQ sauce is spectacular.

I understand the hype and why they are always busy but it wasn't for me. I ordered the ribs and turkey because they claim to be the best ribs but I personally like dry rubs and these had a sticky glaze on them that I didn't care for. However, my daughter ordered chicken which I thought was delicious and the baked beans were incredible. I'd go back just for the beans. My wife and daughter loved the ribs but I didn't. Not my thing I guess which is okay. The part I didn't like is having to wait in line to sit down. Kind of annoying but I get it. In my opinion I've had better ribs.

Get there early...the line grows quickly! I was impressed with how fast the line was and the friendly service. The ambience was casual. All of the food was amazing! My favorite was the pulled pork sandwich... The most surprising bite was the applesauce....hands down the best applesauce ever! Can't wait for our next visit!

Work trip to STL. I had one place I had to hit - Pappy's. Logistically difficult because of work hours v. open hours. Only one chance - be the first in line on the day I fly out, cram a full rack of ribs in my face as fast as possible, and hope my Uber driver likes to speed and TSA wasn't a mess. The window was barely open. My wife warned me not to miss my flight, but I had to chance it. Best. Ribs. Ever. Worth every second of planning and scheming and standing in line with my suitcase. Just the most tender, perfectly sauced and perfectly crusted rack of ribs I've ever enjoyed. I didn't know Pappy, but I'm thankful he was here and did this. The staff is incredibly friendly, the service is top notch. The ordering process is simple and the food comes out fast. The place feels exactly as a smokehouse should - not at all fancy and proudly adorned with local stuff. I am thrilled that I took the risk and experienced Pappy's. Yes, I made my flight.

Isn't much to say that hasn't already been said-Pappy's is the St. Louis stop for the best ribs. We came with research that it was the best, and it did not disappoint. Better also than any ribs we have had in KC. Got there right at 11 when they open for lunch, and still a line almost to the outside, however it moves quickly and is very efficient. Parking on-site. You order first and get a table, food came out quick. Ribs were phenomenal, we also got smoked turkey to try something different and pulled pork sandwich for the kiddo. Homemade applesauce is also not to be passed up on. We come to St. Louis annually now for Skywars so we will be stopping here each time.

I heard about the long lines at this spot and was worried about having to wait for a long time. Two of us ended up stopping by shortly before 4pm on a weekday and did not have to wait at all. We split an order of the ribs, brisket, and burnt ends, with a side of potato salad and corn. We were starving and happily gobbled everything up! I had a lot of fun trying the various sauces at the table, but would also mention that the meats are flavorful enough on their own that you don't have to add sauce if you do not want to. However, I'd recommend adding some acidity with the carolina vinegar or some spice with the hoodoo sauce! It helps bring out even more dimension in the meat. The ribs and burnt ends were the highlight for me-- so smoky, tender, and the perfect balance of meat and fat. The brisket, while also tender, was not as flavorful as the other meats. Both sides I tried were solid. The corn was on the greasy side but very savory. I guess the trick is to come at odd hours on a weekday! But the food is delicious enough that a long weekend wait would be worth it, too.

The line after the line into Pappy's!

I hadn't been here since before the COVID lockdown, and while some things, like the menu, have changed, the smoked meats are still full of flavor and very satisfying. I was a bit disappointed that some of the side options are different now, but the baked beans remain a clear winner. Inside, it still feels like a true BBQ joint. You can smell the smoke the moment you walk in, and the view of the BBQ pits is a great touch. I also love that they still carry Fitz's soda, which is easily one of the best sodas out there. The staff does a great job keeping the tables clean and the line moving, making the overall experience efficient and enjoyable.

Waiting in line. Well worth the wait. Trust me.

Do they serve beer and wine?

    Yes, they serve alcohol.

Are they still closed on mondays and Tuesdays?

Yeah unfortunately they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Its a shame because its tasty smoked bbq

What does the menu look like on a Monday ~6? Are burnt ends and ribs usually available?

    Yes they're available.

If I'm to arrive around 6pm, how much of a wait in line should I expect?

you will not necessarily wait more than 10 minutes, but they may be out of brisket, that is the only thing that you have to "worry about". I missed it by 15 minutes, but the ribs were more than great.

    Their pork ribs!!!!

How much of a wait can be expected on a Friday night around 6:00?

Typically the wait time on Friday night averages 25 minutes. Busy nights can hit 45 minutes. Expect 1-2 meats to be sold out after 6, with most items selling out after 7:00
