Grace Meat + Three is a known quantity here in the STL, to the point where I had to check and see if I'd ever reviewed it. I've been there once or twice over the years, and I've eaten from the food truck once or twice. The fried chicken is fine but kinda underwhelming. It's good, but not to the point where it justifies the price. It's served on a metal tray, on a piece of wax paper, as if it were premium Texas barbecue, but at the end of the day, it's not barbecue. It's just fried chicken. The dirty little secret of fried chicken is that it's not especially hard to make decent-quality fried chicken. They sell it at gas stations, in grocery stores. Popeyes employees lacking in basic life skills, whom you wouldn't trust to make a cup of coffee, routinely crank out a product as good as anything else you can get in a restaurant. Not that I'm complaining. I love Grace! It's where I go when my "bad" cholesterol is too low and the balance in my checking account is too high. I'm at a problematic and yet gratifying state of equlibrium after yesterday's visit. I already kinda knew that I wasn't going to bother with the chicken, but I could hardly read the menu. I almost went with a half-chicken just to avoid having to squint. They've got one of those backlit screens, like at a McDonald's (where everyone just uses the kiosk now anyway), but with worse fonts and less line-spacing. I'm sure they paid a premium for it back in '06 or whatever. Everything in this place is peak stomp clap-era millennial optimism, from back when guys were dressing as lumberjacks. Of course there's a random, incongruous smash burger on the menu. They may or may not be playing Mumford & Sons on the Muzak. I figured the chicken sandwich, called the OG Crispy, would be a good opportunity to compare it to the famous chicken sandwich at the aforementioned Popeyes. Also, it comes with fries, which spared me from having to take out a loan on my house to purchase them a la carte. At $16 (I think), it'll definitely run you, but in general, the prices here seem less ridiculous than they used to. It's still entirely too much, but somehow not much more than you'd spend at a fast food restaurant. Are the fries that come with a sandwich the same size that they are if you order them separately? Supposedly, the a la carte side feeds two. I couldn't imagine two people sharing the side that comes with the OG Crispy. Someone might get cut! It was a perfectly fine size for just me. They're seasoned with some sort of blend that's heavy on the black pepper. I would have been fine with just salt, but this was no dealbreaker. The OG Crispy was great! Was it better than the chicken sandwich at Popeyes? It's hard to say. It's probably a better quality piece of chicken. Similar size. Expertly prepared: nice and crisp on the outside and not overcooked on the inside, which is key for white meat. You're given the choice of regular or hot. I of course went with the hot. I wish the sauce had more tang to it, but it was surprisingly and delightfully hot. Spicy foods in non-ethnic restaurants are so often nerfed, for children and, erm, non-ethnics. A few people at my table had the po boys, both shrimp and catfish. They looked really good, and not as skimpy as they look in some of the photos posted here. I might have to try one, once my LDL subsides and my financial situation recovers. Sandwiches might be the thing to get here. Not that you can truly go wrong with anything. read more

We got there just in time, there were already lots of people in the dining room eating and after we placed our order at the counter and got seated, a bunch more people came in. Our food came out quickly and correctly. The chicken biscuit had a good size piece of chicken and just enough sweet and heat. I love that they went with navy blue as the color for their walls and it was a nice touch of vintage decorum. I had the smoked wings which were delicious, except that I would get them with the relish, and drizzle on the side.Shrimp were good size, and tender!! Atmosphere was vibrant and music sublime. The oldies and soul that gets you really enjoying your company and the food? This place had it. I got the fish and spaghetti, hubby got the grilled fish and "Grandma's cornbread," and mom in law got wings, mac and cheese and greens. Latter not pictured here but they enjoyed overall. The foodie in me did a considerable amount of research prior to my trip to the St. Louis area. Grace Meat + Three was high on my list of places to visit. My daughter and I arrived, stood at the counter, and waited to be seated, but this is an "order at the counter and take your number to the table" type of establishment, which seems to be a popular business model in the area. We stepped out of line to decide on what to order. I settled on the Catfish Meal Deal (hot) and a side of Fried Brussels Sprouts. There was a sauce station with an array of options. I'm a saucy lady, so I helped myself to the Dilly Tartar Sauce, Tasty Ranch and Comeback Sauce. There was also Sweet Whiskey BBQ and Alabama White Sauce. The sauce bottles were labeled with dates that gave us a bit of pause, but the bottles were cold, so we proceeded. The dining area had Southern-charm, and the other guests all appeared to be enjoying themselves. The staff were all very kind and helpful and we enjoyed our meals so much that we both placed to-go orders to enjoy at our hotel room later that evening. My daughter ordered wings to-go and I ordered the Grace Burger. Unfortunately, while eating my burger later that night with a knife and fork, I found a long strand of hair embedded in the burger patty, which caused me to discard it after those few unfortunate bites. Grace Meat + Three was probably one of the best spots I've ever had! It's super close to SLU, and I got the Grace Burger, which was really tasty, but I think I preferred the fried chicken sandwich. It was so crispy, probably one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in a while! We had sides of cornbread and mac and cheese, and the mac and cheese was divine: perfect flavor, pasta, and breadcrumbs. I got original and not spicy cause I'm a wimp but the sauces you can get on the sandwich. The comeback sauce for the fr and the hot and honey for the chicken. You can't change my mind. Reunited and it feels so good! I met up with some friends for an early brunch on Sunday and was craving some southern food. I've only been to Grace once and that was four years ago. As a matter of fact, the last time I was there, they had a somewhat limited menu. This time, I went with the shrimp meal which comes with 1 side ( I chose cornbread) and got an addtl side of Brussel sprouts. For a party of four, our food came relatively quick. The first bite of shrimp was interesting as I tasted majority batter and very little shrimp. While flavorful, it was a tad underwhelming. While the shrimp may have been a letdown, the cornbread and Brussel sprouts were anything but. The cornbread was moist and resembled a slick of cake due to its thickness and consistency. The sprouts had the perfect combination of char, balsamic, Parmesan, and spices. Overall, I was more than pleased with the service and food. I can't wait to come back. read more

Would have rated a 5 if it weren't for the service. The girl was very rude and was LITERALLY texting in between taking our order. There were five of us, after each one she would stop and text. While we were sitting down, two guys came in that hadn't been there before. She didn't look up or greet them, they just stood there and she was texting. We were one of the only people in there. We ordered takeout and were kinda underwhelmed. While the food was well flavored, it felt somewhat lack luster for the cost. We ordered the Po Boy and the Catfish. The Po Boy felt like a few shrimp, pickles, and raw onions thrown on bread without much thought. I'm not sure it was substantial enough to really feel like a $15 sandwich. The catfish was certainly a delicious item and the green tomato relish was a nice balance with the spice. After almost two decades in the St. Louis area, I should know better than to get excited about the reviews of fried chicken by St. Louisans. Hodak's and Culpepper's are ample examples of how low St. Louisans set the bar for "good" chicken. Grace Meat + Three, while delivering exceptional customer service from the moment I walked in, ultimately didn't win me over with the food itself. The fried chicken -- their supposed claim to fame -- was... just good. I appreciated the option of multiple spice levels, which is always a bonus for someone like me with a palate that leans toward the spicier side. But once you get past the well-seasoned skin, the meat itself lacked depth of flavor and felt a bit one-note. What truly drew me in, however, was their specialty smoked seafood sandwich/roll. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the low point of the meal -- and I mean really low. There's no polite way to phrase it: it was awful. My wife and I each took one bite and knew we didn't need another. The metallic aftertaste lingered unpleasantly, reminiscent of old cat food or tuna that had been left open far too long. In the end, while the staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive, the food fell far short of the hype. Sadly, the experience was underwhelming enough that I won't be returning... no matter how good the service was. read more

The catfish is lightly breaded and so flaky - great quality! My partner got the half bird and chose Hot seasoning. Again, not too heavy of breading - just enough for great flavor. The collard greens were a bit salty for my taste, but the Mac and cheese was amazing! It was hard to choose from their large menu that all sounded great. We started with the fried pickles, which were a large serving and some of the best ones I've had in awhile- served fresh out of the fryer, and nice and crunchy. I had the Chicken Fried Chicken, which was crispy and juicy. My bf had their special burger at the moment, The Don, which he enjoyed. The greeter was friendly and helpful - explaining the menu and the layout of the restaurant. Great choices on the menu. Lots to choose from but not overwhelming. I opted for fried catfish, macaroni n cheese, collard greens and chocolate shake. Everything was cooked to perfection. I enjoyed Grace many a times during Covid when I lived just down the street. Unfortunately for many years I did keto and felt then that I didn't have a lot of options. Coined as a Southern Restaurant, it genuinely probably is very hard to try to do a low carb diet in the south! Since I'm easing up on the carbs and we were looking for a chill date night, with a patio to enjoy the beautiful weather, Grace was the perfect fit. Everyone that works here is always so nice. I usually find chicken tenders boring, but since I know their reputation, I felt safe in making that my meal. What I truly enjoyed about them, the batter was not overpowering. Sometimes a thick batter will leave no chicken behind or it can be overwhelmingly salty. Grace chicken tenders have the perfect chicken to batter ratio. And since I like spicy, I love that I can choose the spice levels. My date got a half slab of ribs, this comes with a dry rub, very tasty. For sides we had collard greens and fries, tasty, but I definitely need to check out the mac and cheese. read more

We recently went to the Grove location. Due to arrival time of approximately 8:10 we were told only to go orders were being accepted. We place our order. The person accepting the orders was extremely nice and accommodating. The place was not very busy for the weekend. After 25 minutes I inquired about our order. We received our orders 30 minutes after putting in the order. When I got home I discovered my chicken thigh was still pink. The greens were exceptional. The chicken tenders were way overcooked. I called and received a call back from someone stating she was the manager. I offered to send a picture of the undercooked chicken. She did not feel the need for it. She indicated they would handle it with a gift card. I did not get anything. I extremely disappointed. I would use caution dealing with this once excellent restaurant. My fiancé and I were passing through the St Louis area and found this fast casual spot offering southern classics. There was plenty of street parking in the area that happened to be free the Friday we went. The restaurant itself has tons of seating for all group sizes. One orders at the main counter, gets a number to seat with, and someone brings your food out to you. I loved that the menu itself offered plenty of fried fish, bbq meats, classic southern sides, and a variety of sauces to pair with meals. They also offer local Excel fountain sodas. We decided to get a variety of small portions to sample: mac & cheese, grace fries with pimento queso, honey glazed cornbread, and cornmeal crusted fried catfish. The fish was perfectly crunchy but juicy inside. The fries had a wonderful seasoning on them and none of the pimento queso was left after eating. Mac and cheese & cornbread had great flavor as well. Our favorite dipping sauces were the comeback and ranch but we also tried the hot honey and sweet whiskey bbq. I highly recommend making the stop here to dine! However, I decided to give it another shot after seeing what I thought was a great special--only to realize it was last month's. Instead, I went with the March special, a fish sandwich for Lent, which turned out to be pretty tasty. I'm not usually a fan of potato buns, but it was decent. The greens, though, were absolutely amazing--I even got some to go, along with the mac & cheese. I also ordered an off-menu cocktail, which was nice. I loved this spot! Parking was a little difficult but I have zero complaints about the actual restaurant, service or food. I was impressed for sure. Its not full service, you order at the counter then your food is brought to your table. The fried fish wasprobably my favorite thing there! This place was awesome! First of all, they have a self service condiment section and all their sauces are delicious. Our favorite was the tarter dill. I ordered the catfish po boy. No changes because it was dairy free! The sauce on it was mayo based and very good. It was HUGE. I only ate half. The cornmeal breading was delicious and light. The toppings on the bun also gave great flavor. My boyfriend got the hot honey chicken biscuit. The biscuit was made perfectly. The breading was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The ambiance is very nice. It was very clean. The service was decent. It took some time for the food to come out and the restaurant wasn't packed. I initially thought this was due to the food being cooked to order but that could t be since the only think that was piping hot was my collard greens and they were really good. The Cole slaw was not my favorite. But in front south I'm use to sugar in my Cole slaw. The fish and the shrimp were good but the chicken lacked seasoning and I wound my food was maybe a little above room temperature. Not what I was expecting but all in all I would probably give them another shot. Sucks though my first meal in St. Louis wasn't as delicious as I thought and hoped.
