Vegan enchiladas with rice and beans. Yum!!
    Lori A.

We had the vegan enchiladas with rice and beans and it was so delicious! We really appreciated all of the vegan options on the menu. The Cadillac margarita is quite tasty and so are the chips and salsa. We loved sitting on the patio with the view of the ocean .our server was friendly and the service was quick.

The server wasn't very friendly. We never received our soup with our meal. Luckily they gave us a flan for free in place of the soup. The pozole verde wasn't even green and had no flavor. None of the food had much flavor. Then while my daughter was eating her birria burrito there was a giant bay leaf left in it which made her end up getting sick later on our way home. When I showed it to the employee after my daughter found it there was no apology. We got the premium margaritas and they were very watered down and little flavor. All of the glassware was plastic and looked very tattered. Overall the food was tasteless and the service was not good. The only thing that was nice about this place was the decor and the hostess who was very kind and welcoming. The prices were high for the quality you get. I will not be returning and would not recommend this place to anyone.

I don't get it. This is solid Mexican food. You are mad because it's not dog friendly so you rate a 1 star? Really. This place is good. The view is spectacular. I thought the service was good. If you are rating this place with 1 star this says more about you than this place.

Olamendi's is a great authentic Mexican restaurant. I highly recommend the enchilada dish. Although this was not my first time having Mexican food, it was the first time I tried a shrimp enchilada. I found out it is a killer dish and I regret never trying something new until today. It was our first time dining here. We were very satisfied with our meal. We tried their homemade world-famous flan dessert also. It tasted great. However, it was much sweeter than I prefer. Both the interior and exterior radiated bright colors that created a welcoming and social atmosphere. Overall, this place has excellent food, and our waiter went above and beyond! They have great indoor seating and outdoor patio dining with sunset views.

This place has the best people working for them. Amazing service. Joe was the best. We arrived (2 persons) and requested to be seated inside as it was a little chilly at 6:30 pm. There was an empty table but needed clearing. We said we could wait. Well they were extremely busy and I noticed that all the employees were busting their asses to take care of customers. We ended up waiting 20 minutes for the table to be cleared and seated. Joe (Jorge on the receipt) was amazing seated us and took drink orders immediately! Drinks arrived within minutes. The whole place was extremely busy and I was so impressed on how the staff was handling it. Food arrived in a timely manner and was very good. Joe was such a good server, you could tell he really cared about the customer. This place gets 10 stars from me.

As our families were coming into town for a wedding, a group of seven of us made last-minute reservations for dinner here on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was easy to find along the coast south of Dana Point. Their relatively small parking lot had plenty of spaces available when we arrived at 530 p.m. Some street parking was also available if you come at a busier time. We were quickly seated in their decorative dining room, which had walls full of photos of famous past guests. As sunset approached, other groups were availing themselves of the outdoor tables. They serve all the favorites. Several in the group started with Margaritas, while others went for Mexican Coke or water. Chips and salsa were brought out. The red salsa was quite spicy, even though they said it wasn't. We must have been lightweights. I ordered two crispy taco combo, one chicken and one beef. Both were delicious and (temperature) hot with shells that did not break midway through eating. The side of refried beans was great with a thick cheese layer on top. I didn't care as much for the rice in the combo. My wife got their signature burrito with red and green sauce. It was huge, almost the size of her head, I think. Needless to say, she didn't finish it but did enjoy it. Some others got tacos, and someone else ordered two wet enchiladas. Everything was great. Service was awesome the entire evening, and we had a great time.

A friend of ours gave us a bottle of the Ultra Premium Organic Tequila, 100% Agave Azul bottle for Christmas. The Tequila was fantastic!! She said if you like the Tequila, check out the restaurant in Dana Point, you'll love it. Boy, was she right!! So, we take PCH from Long Beach to Dana Point-just a beautiful oceanic scenic drive. We knew as soon as we pulled in, the place had character and a killer ocean view. Walk inside, surrounded by colorful Mexican decorations, a Trophy Tequila case, and multiple photos of Nixon visiting that same restaurant many years ago. Of course we ordered Mezcal Margaritas, shots if Mezcal, AND the Mole!! Literally, the BEST Mole you'll eat, we could taste the chocolate and ALL ~50+ ingredients... i had Enchiladas, he had the Chicken. Food was truly delicious!! Service was fantastic, from our Meatball Soup to the Churros for Dessert!! They were very attentive, and never left us lonely. Truly recommend for all those who love authentic Mexican food, great Tequila (you can buy a bottle to take home. ), and a killer ocean view!!!!

Definitely a Mexican owned and operated and been in business a long time. The Nixon pictures made the place dated and for me a bit of turnoff. Good menu selection. Wish I had gotten the Tostadas instead of chile releno as it was sweet and taste was off. Rice was great and good salsa. After just returning from 3 months in México, I would rate this as not authentic ... more California Mexican.

Great service and location here at Olamendi's with Amazing weather today. Perfect pit stop to relax and enjoy the sunshine and ocean breeze. The main dish was carnitas de Olamendi was kinda dry and not properly seasoned right because you need the fiery mole sauce to compliment this dish. The Hibiscus drink was refreshing and delicious. They also have a vegan menu too. They also have a sweet mole sauce with 50 ingredients and all vegetarian version no meat. Beautiful atmosphere and environment with nice clean restroom available inside for disabled customers too. Lots of parking available here during non peak hours. Love the different colors of umbrellas too. Overall a wonderful alternative to the mundane things in life. Try the new and fresh approach to traditional Oaxaca Mexican cuisine here in Beautiful Dana Point right on Pacific coast highway. Enjoy the Sunshine of Love today.

Sunset Views and super salsa served up at Olamendi's Mexican Restaurant near Capistrano Beach since 1973. The view is priceless. The history is notable, and the staff is great. Cheerful family-run spot for Mexican classics served in colorful surroundings with a full bar.

The environment is intimate and gives you ability to interact with the band and all be a part of an experience, which reminds me more of a place I might find in Paris or London. Sweet bartenders and Andrea who greeted us and showed us to our seat and was wonderful too! My friend and I greatly appreciated the attention to detail in the beautiful decorating that created a relaxing and plush ambiance. Comfy bar stools too. They do have a "nosh bowl" if you need a little snack, but I didn't try it. We had already read the rules, so we expected to come nicely dressed and planned not to use our cell. But if you do need to, they just request that you go into the hallway or restroom, so as not to bother anyone else's experience.

We loved the hostess who made the whole thing feel so lucrative and she even took some photos of us in the waiting room before we had to put our phones away for inside. We had made reservations ahead of time but they placed us at the bar which was a bummer because there were definitely still tables available. Inside is cool with eccentric decor. The overall vibe though tailored an older crowd and not so much people in their 20's. There were a lot of drink options but not a lot of of that sweet and fun that I prefer. It's more sophisticated cocktails. Some staff reminded me to not have my phone out when I was clearly taking a picture of the receipt for my friend and I and that was upsetting. How do you expect me to remember prices and what we ordered lol Also there is no snacks other than like nuts and cheeses.

Their website teases that food is coming soon. It is a fairly small place and I would definitely recommend making a reservation on Yelp. If there are no reservations available when you want to visit, they also have a Yelp live waitlist. The building has its own parking lot with about ten spaces and is shared with the sushi speakeasy upstairs. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Sunday night, and luckily there were still quite a few spaces available. A half hour later, the place was packed. The outside of the building is not marked. Enter through the red double doors in front, walk to the right, and the entrance will be easy to spot. Seating options include eight seats at the bar, four high-top tables in the main area that seat four people each, and a slightly raised grotto area with one four-seat table and two two-seat tables. We often like to sit at the bar, but I reserved a table in the grotto so we could get the full experience and I'm glad I did. The interior has great décor with a mix of tiki and pirate ship elements. The walls are wooden plank, with cargo netting, ropes, and tiki lights above. The walls have portraits of Goonies movie characters. Take two steps up to the grotto area, and you are inside of a cave with skulls, shells, and treasures embedded in the cave walls. There is also a small waterfall in the corner. Scan the QR code on the table for the cocktail menu. It is colorful and many of the drinks have names tied to The Goonies. Each drink also has zero, one, or two skulls next to it to indicate the booziness factor. They have quite a few original cocktails as well as classic tiki drinks, a few mocktails, spirits, beer, and wine. I started out with the Ash Landing (Hamilton Pot Still Blonde Rum, Hamilton 86 Demerara Rum, Hamilton Pimento Dram, Angostura Bitters, Pineapple, Lime, Ginger, One Skull booziness, $14). This was definitely a little on the boozy side, with good ginger flavor and the pineapple and lime in the background. She started out with the One-Eyed Willy (Pou Vodka, Lychee, Guava, Coconut, Sweet & Sour, $15, keep the mug for $65). It is rare that a vodka drink is my favorite of the night, but this was both of our favorites. It was very balanced and juicy, and not boozy at all. The guava, coconut, and citrus from the sweet and sour were all there. We bought the mug, and they bring you a new one in original packaging. The purchased mug is colored a little differently (blue instead of black) than the mug the drink is served it, but it still looks great. While walking around taking pictures, I ran into our server and mentioned that it was my girlfriend's birthday. He kindly brought us some shots on the house. He said it was a recipe they had for shots during Halloween, and it tasted like a spin on a kamikaze. It was very good and much appreciated. I have a hard time resisting a cool mug, so for my second drink I ordered the Slick Shoes (Planteray Pineapple Rum, Worthy Park Rum, Bounty Dark Rum, Strawberry, Papaya, Lime Juice, $17). It is served in a cool sneaker mug with a flaming lime half on top. It was nicely balanced and just a tiny bit boozy. It had a nice light fruit flavor, not overly sweet at all. I think it is sometimes served in a regular glass, so if you order it, be sure to ask for the sneaker mug. Her second cocktail was the Never Say Die (Producer Mezcal, Kiwi, Lemon, Mango, Grilled Pineapple, $14). The smokiness of the mezcal was on the hairy edge of being too smoky for me, but she loved it. She could taste the kiwi and mango. We shared one last drink, the Garden of Eden (Papa's Pilar Blonde Rum, Lavender, Lemon, Elderflower, Cucumber Bitters, One Skull booziness, $17). It had an interesting (good) floral flavor profile, and didn't strike me as boozy at all. I could definitely taste the cucumber notes from the bitters. There was good 80s music playing in the background. It's a Goonies themed bar, I get it, but we would have enjoyed a few tiki songs in the mix too. There is one unisex restroom out in the lobby area. It is nice that they also themed it with wooden plank on the walls and ceiling, and some nautical décor. Daniel was our server and was very friendly and provided great service. Thanks again Daniel for the birthday shots! Bartender Felipe also delivered one round of our drinks and was also very friendly. All of the drinks were good and there are definitely more on the menu that we would like to return and try. We had a real fun time, thanks Lost Inferno!

One of the things I appreciate most is that the happy hour actually feels like a good deal. Happy hour runs all day on Mondays and Tuesday through Friday from 2pm-6pm, with $10 cocktails, $6 beer and wine, and a few food specials that are worth ordering. We went with the chicken nachos ($10) and the taco special ($10 for two tacos, with mix-and-match options like birria, carnitas, chicken, and sweet potato). Both were surprisingly generous portions for happy hour items. The nachos came loaded with toppings and could easily be shared, while the tacos felt substantial rather than the smaller portions some places serve on their happy hour menu. The space itself fits right in with the River Street vibe. It's casual, lively, and makes for an easy place to hang out with friends after work or spend a relaxed afternoon grabbing a few bites and drinks. The entire marketplace has become a fun destination, and Capo Leisure House is one of the spots helping make it worth the visit. If you're exploring River Street Marketplace for the first time, I'd definitely recommend stopping by during happy hour.
