Los Golondrinas has consistently great food, and it's one of our favorite places to stop when we're in San Clemente. The quality and flavor never disappoint. The only thing that has always seemed a little odd is the salsa policy. No matter how large the order is, the number of salsas included feels pretty limited, especially for takeout. It would be great if management reconsidered that policy for larger orders. That said, what really stood out during our most recent visit was the customer service. Johno, who took our order, was friendly, professional, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great experience. He listened, communicated well, and made us feel like valued customers. It's rare to come across someone who provides that level of service, and he absolutely deserves recognition. I had a very bad experience with Emma, one of the managers at Las Golondrinas. She was extremely rude and unprofessional toward me. She came up to me saying I was "in here for free," which made no sense to me. When I asked what she was talking about, she brought up something about a Facebook post involving her daughter, which had nothing to do with the restaurant or her job. I asked her to show me the post since she was making it such a big issue, but then she said, "Never mind, forget about it." At that point, it felt like she started a problem for no reason and then refused to explain herself. She was yelling, being disrespectful, and creating an uncomfortable situation. I've had issues with her attitude before, and it's disappointing that complaints about her behavior don't seem to be taken seriously. A manager should know how to speak to customers with respect and professionalism. This experience made me feel unwelcome, and I hope ownership takes this seriously. read more

The restaurant is a to-go only spot and it's like a factory behind the counter. You can feel the heat radiating throughout the space. Tortilla chips being made by the second and family platters being assembled. Their menu is pretty extensive so you won't have a problem choosing what you want. Get a side of their guac and chile lime chips, you won't be disappointed. They also have a orange and pina colada whipped soda drink which is tasty and refreshing. I have been coming here for years but was so disappointed when I got home and looked at our burritos. The California burrito is typically huge no matter where you go because all that goes into the burrito, but not this time. It was so small that I had to get a measuring tape out and yep it was 6". It is bad enough that the service you get is subpar, the wait time is longer than it should be, during Covid they took away the outside tables and chairs, so now they are getting cheap and cutting the sizes down. It is too bad they are doing this because all it takes is for a competitor to come along and put them out of business. I would prefer to not see this happen, so I am hoping that Management pays attention to the reviews. The food is good, but not worth it at these sizes and prices. read more

Their food has always been good. I've been coming here for 20+ years and happy to patronize a family-owned business. However, I HATE that they have discontinued the Loyalty Card program. I used to get my card initialed, then got $5 off my order when I cashed it in after 10 visits. THEY STOPPED THIS PROCESS! I mean, with their recent higher prices, this is the last thing they should discontinue. It always gave me the feeling that I was working toward a $5 credit, even though it usually worked-out to saving $5 after spending about $400 on ten visits. What is that? A 1.5% savings? Decent food, bad customer service. Went in on a Sunday morning and ordered 3 breakfast burritos and drinks. I had to ask for salsa and when I looked in the bag, they only gave me two. I asked for an extra one and he said that would be an extra. I said if you order three burritos you should be able to get (3) salsa. He said that's the manager's rules. I said what if I ordered two burritos at one time and one burrito the next time and he said you would still only get two sauces. I thought that was a little weird and what really upset me with was the fact that he stared me down. He made me feel like I was asking him for something fee. I will NEVER go back. Poor, slow service and ridiculous prices. I ordered menudo and paid $14.50. They charged me extra for tortillas and cilantro! The only condiments that they would include were onions, oregano, and one tiny lemon wedge. I love menudo and order it often. It ALWAYS comes with cilantro, chopped jalepeno and onions, oregano, crushed red pepper, lemon wedge"S", and tortillas!!! It is ridicoulous that they would charge extra for condiments. It's like ordering a cheeseburger and having to pay extra for ketchup and mustard! The kitchen staff were very slow and lagging. They were not using gloves on the line which is a food safety violation. The cashier was clueless, unfriendly, and incompetent. She even forgot to give me the tortilla that I paid extra for. Condiments should be included in the price. I asked for pata, which usually is one medium size bone with marrow. Just wanted to write a review on this specific location my dad has been taking me los golindras since I was a child and he's been going there since about probably 89 or 87 around whenever they opened I think the first one was in capo beach but I wanted to shout out the staff that works there at the location on Camino de la Estrella. I see about the same people who work there every day on the busy days they all three work together. It seems like and then when it's slower one or two is there. there is two polite gentlemen and a very sweet lady as well. Every time I come in or I call in an order they are so polite and they never mess up a single order and they make you really feel like you're not just a customer but a loyal customer to them and it's not just me. I see them make friendly interactions with all their regulars and are polite to everyone. Thank you to those three amazing workers making this the best location out of all their locations. What a great little to-go Mexican place I just found. I was in the area and I was starving and I pulled into this parking lot assuming there would be some sort of breakfast place nearby. I ordered a breakfast burrito which had eggs beans cheese rice potatoes salsa (could have gotten meat but wasn't in the mood). Everything was delicious, reasonably priced, but I can see customer service is not there forte, especially reading previous reviews. But they are well staffed and your food comes out quickly and delicious. Lots of customers while I was standing there ordering their breakfast tacos which I could see were quite large too. As with everything in California, it is now quite expensive to eat anywhere but I am willing to pay for this. One downside is that phone in orders take precedence over counter orders. Dear Las Golondrinas, We've been dining with you for many years - good food, and the price is right (well, prices have gone up, but so have everyone else's). Unfortunately, the quality and service have taken a dive recently. The last three times, our order has been wrong. We're not asking for alterations, just order straight off the menu, three times in a row, wrong. If there's an ingredient you can't eat, cheese in this case, it really sucks to drive home and find it in your food, when it's not supposed to be there in the first place. The menu states there's no cheese, the order taker agrees there's no cheese, but even after ordering food, asking for "no cheese" on something that isn't supposed to have it in the first place, we got cheese. Again. Three strikes and you're out guys. There's too many other places in this town that will take our business and get their orders straight. You were going to get 2 stars instead of 1 for old time's sake, because the food used to be good and the service used to not suck. Then I remembered every time I drove back to get my order replaced, I got a "sorry, it won't happen again" and that's it. Not a refund, no bag of chips, not even an offer of a free 50 cent salsa.
