Nacho Average BBQ Joint: Why Old 30 BBQ Is Bucyrus's Best-Kept Secret (Until Now) July 23, 2025 Uncategorized Welcome to Old 30 BBQ in Bucyrus, Ohio--where the meats are smoked low and slow, the pork rinds talk back, and the smoker lives outside like a rugged cowboy who refuses to be domesticated. Founded in 2015, Old 30 BBQ is the smoky lovechild of local flavor and big-time BBQ ambition. And get this--they don't ship in mystery meat from who-knows-where. They get their cuts locally from Center Street Meats, so everything is fresh, flavorful, and proud to be Ohio-raised. Pork Rinds That Talk (Literally) Let's start with the appetizer that stole the show--and our hearing. We kicked things off with the pork rinds, which, I kid you not, were still popping when they hit the table. These things came in hot, crackling like they were warning the entrees they were about to get shown up. Salty, crispy, and slightly dangerous--just how we like it. Brisket Nachos: A Love Story For my entrée, I ordered the brisket nachos, which deserve their own holiday. Picture this: a bed of crispy chips smothered in a light cheese sauce, sprinkled with shredded cheddar, stacked with smoked, shredded brisket, and topped with diced tomatoes, red onions, and green onions. I requested the BBQ sauce on the side so I could try them all like a pitmaster in a taste-testing lab. Because science. Brisket Flatbread: My Wife Made a Great Choice My wife went with the brisket flatbread, and let me tell you--she nailed it. It starts with a base of Carolina Gold sauce, then piles on smoked brisket, feta cheese, and diced red peppers, all finished with a drizzle of hot honey. It's sweet, smoky, tangy, and a little spicy--a flavor combo so good it deserves a round of applause. She made a great choice--and I was this close to asking for a trade. Let's Talk Sauce Old 30 doesn't mess around when it comes to sauce. They've got seven--count 'em--seven different kinds. Each one has its own vibe: Carolina Vinegar - Sharp, twangy, and doesn't apologize for it. Bama Sauce - Creamy with a bite. Basically ranch that hits the gym. Sweet BBQ - Smooth, sweet, and a fan favorite. 30 Caliber - A classic with a little swagger. Dirty 30 - Sweet and spicy like a BBQ soap opera. Spicy BBQ - It brings the heat and leaves no prisoners. Fire BBQ - For those who enjoy crying with their meal. Patio Perks & Parking Lot Pitmasters We chose to sit on the covered patio, which overlooks a golf course--perfect for enjoying brisket while judging other people's short game. There's plenty of outdoor seating, and on select days, they host live music to go with your ribs and rinds. And let's not forget the smoker, proudly stationed in the parking lot like a beefy bouncer guarding your dinner. If you don't smell smoke when you arrive, either you're early, or your nose needs a reboot. ‍ Chris: Server, Sauce Guru, Vibe Setter A big shoutout to Chris, our server, who's been with Old 30 BBQ for two years and knew the menu like he built the smoker himself. Friendly, fast, and full of good advice--he's the kind of guy who makes you feel like a regular, even on your first visit. Final Thoughts: Go. Eat. Repeat. Old 30 BBQ isn't just a place to eat--it's a full-blown smoke show. From pork rinds that snap, crackle, and pop to saucy brisket masterpieces, every bite is a celebration of meat, heat, and good decisions. And yes--we ordered a lot. We brought home some pork rinds and half a flatbread, and honestly, it tasted just as good the next day. Old 30 BBQ 1330 E Mansfield St, Bucyrus, OH 44820 old30bbq.com Open Tuesday-Sunday (Closed Mondays--because even smokers need rest) Take the Trip -- your next adventure (and maybe some brisket) is waiting.

Stopped by on our way through town, cute little place attached to a golf course. There is outside seating and a cozy indoors with a bar. As a pescatarian I was glad to see a shrimp option. Loved all the sauces to go with the very tasty tater tots.. enjoyed the side salad too! My boyfriend enjoyed his pork sandwich. The cornbread was very moist and delicious and comes with the platters. Lots of gluten free options. The prices were great! And a nice selection of beers. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly. Definitely worth a stop.

We are local and love to come to Old 30 often. This particular day we came for lunch and my husband and I both sat at the bar immediately. We both got the lunch special and the smoked meat was very good. We love the assortment of BBQ sauces they have. Old Gold and 30 Caliber are our favorites! The restaurant is decorated nicely and the staff is always friendly. We will always come back for more!

Compliments to the chef..! I left there fully satisfied! The waitress was friendly and helpful, and allowed me to alter the menu to allow for my specific requests.. I got chicken and shrimp, and it was delicious! Corn bread was on point, just no bad things to say about the place.. Definitely coming back!

    Sampler platter. Enough for two!

It did not specify toppings were an additional charge of what was a small pizza at $16.99. After placing the order, with three toppings (one of which was bacon), ate the pizza. It was really good. After receiving the bill, I was SHOCKED that the toppings were an additional charge to the already higher priced pizza for a SMALL. The bacon alone was $5.98! My bill was $30 for a SMALL PIZZA - it was good but not THAT GOOD for $30! We did question this, after asking for the manager, and why the menu description would not have clarified that the toppings were an ADDITIONAL charge and she said its because its just like the regular menu. The waiter never mentioned that the toppings were additional or that a bacon topping cost the amount of a pound of bacon! She offered a $10 coupon that would be emailed to me since they already ran my credit card and could not void the transaction. I have not seen the $10 credit/coupon email as of yet... Bakers, while their food is good, need to do better on clarifying their menu.

There are relatively few dining options in Mansfield Ohio on a Sunday, thankfully Hudson and Essex is one that is available! We arrived without Reservations and seated in the dining room. We usually prefer the bar; however, as it was Sunday dinner, we wanted to be more proper. On Sundays, they do offer a dinner menu and a Sunday dinner menu. Their Sunday dinner menu is very good! We've had offerings on it before and have never been disappointed. This time we did decide to order off the regular menu. After ordering a round of cocktails to start with, we ordered a jalapeño flatbread appetizer special to start. Must say that that flatbread was extremely delicious and hot! The jalapeño slices could've been deveined and deseeded to tame the heat a little. For our main courses, I ordered their Caesar salad with blackened chicken, my wife their small filet, and mom their pierogi appetizer. Our meals came out well presented and delicious! It was the first time I've ever had their Caesar salad and I enjoyed it immensely. My wife always enjoys their steak and my mom raved about the pierogies. No formal desserts were ordered; however, I ordered a last word, which was delicious! Alec really is a great bartender and can make just about anything! All in all, another well done dinner at Mansfield's best restaurant!

We didn't want to wait for a table to open up in the regular restaurant so we decided to eat at the GASTRONOMIA Italian Deli (same kitchen as the back restaurant). My wife is handicapped and some very kind ladies moved to a "high" table so we could sit at a lower table. We ordered from a young lady with the most amazing blue eyes and she brought our food when it was ready. My wife had the Muffuletta Sub and I had the Mighty Meatball Sub. My wife could only eat 1/4 of her sandwich and I could only eat 1/2 of mine. If you have ever lived in one of the two places I mentioned, you know good Italian . This was WONDERFUL Italian. I can't wait to go back there!
